Promise yourself that before heading to the store, you'll spend an extra 10 minutes exploring your wardrobe to create a new outfit! Believe me, there's more pleasure in discovering a new combination from your old clothes than in buying something new!
Yeah me too. Or buying a “statement” piece, something a lil different, not my usual dull style. Seeing it in store, loving it but then getting home & having no clue how to style it with what I already have in my closet.
I love that you feature your mom. More with your mom please. She is beautiful and shows us how you would style women at different life stages, life styles, etc.
Mine too. I don’t own enough clothes to wear all the nice things at home because there’s nothing left nice for the times I go out. Clothes get saggy if they’re sat around in so I’ll always change the minute I get home. Also if I’m just at home maybe cooking, cleaning I’ll wear old clothes that don’t matter
I have plenty of clothes for all seasons that I like. However, I continue to wear items that look good without having to iron them and bypass all the others.
The mistake I'm trying hard not to make anymore is buying clothes because I like the colour or print, regardless of whether they actually suit me or go with anything! Concentrating on buying basics for this year as i have very few of these essentials 😊
I totally understand where you're coming from - this is what I do myself! Falling for a color or print is easy, but it's all about finding that balance. Focusing on basics is a smart move! Keep going, you're on the right track!
Absolutely. Some of my mistakes is loving a color or print or style and it’s not me or it doesn’t fit great. 😂. I’m really focusing on this before purchasing.
Love the tips and love seeing your mom❤ My mistake number one is that I buy a new piece and am happy if I can make two outfits out of it. Turns out I only wear one outfit so cost per wear is high. The second mistake is buying for the fantasy self… oh so many pieces just hanging in there waiting for this fantasy to become reality which it never does.
My fashion mistake is simply not knowing my style direction. I have a hodgepodge of variety of outfits that I wear okay, but no signature style that I can identify. I accessed my wardrobe and discovered that I have a lot of black, white and some red, a few orange pieces and prints. So thanks to you and Gemma, I decided to start with my black/white, adding nude pieces that I can coordinate a working capsule wardrobe. I do have some accessories that I can use as pops of color for now, but have a lot of learning in the color department. I will say that I’m happy in the direction I’m going and now that my eyes are opened, I’m beginning to look at my wardrobe in a whole new exciting way, putting together combinations that i never thought of to szhush up my wardrobe
Thank you for adding your Mum as she is more my age and so far seems she is more my colouring too. Nice to have the two looks. I’m enjoying these videos.
My biggest mistake is dressing too casual too often, thinking nothing calls for me to look more stylish everyday, so I don’t even try. I love your style! ❤
My fashion mistake is keeping an outfit way too long because I like it - even if it is truly a dated outfit! I notice it more after watching your lessons!! lol
This is a very common mistake, perhaps even the most typical one! It's easy to get caught in the moment with individual pieces without envisioning how they fit into complete outfits. You're definitely not alone in this!
But Elena, I LOVE to shop! I know it’s said that ‘less is more’ but deep down in my soul, I believe that MORE is more’. I just need bigger closets! - Caroline
We must be soul mates! I also love to hang my "outfits" together. With little gadgets I bought from Amazon....hooks that fit over wooden pant and skirt hangers...which I then hang tops and accessories; belts, scarves, handbags. I also photograph my creations so that I don't forget why I bought them in the first place! Yessah, I'm just a tad 🤪 crazy! And, my closet is way too small!
My fashion mistakes are plenty. One was not knowing who I was and trying to find it through too much shopping. Another was poor fabric purchases. I now try to stay away from polyester - especially the scratchy kind. I would buy an item because the colour was great. Fit great. But. Fabric. Not great. Then find myself never wearing it. I also pay attention to the actual colour. Does it make me look alive or wash me out. Basically. I have learned to become much pickier in where I spend my fashion money and I am doing better for it. Thank you for all your posts. So helpful as I continue to grow and learn.
My mistake is “saving” my new purchase for something in the future! Why? Be enthusiastic, wear it now! Don’t save it. Love the tip of adding an accessory when you take off a jacket. Just purchased a similar green jacket at my local consignment store … thanks for styling tips for how to wear it! 😊
I tend to wear and put together the same ‘looks’. I love your ideas how to wear different colors and textures (like this one) together. Thank you. I love your ideas and knowledge.
I’m guilty of this too. I’ve also worn these outfits, only to feel over dressed and awkward when I look at my friends who are perfectly happy dressing in jeans and a T-shirt while I love being stylish.
My biggest fashion mistake in the past, not knowing how important it is to know what type of body shape and skintone I have. I have learn so much about fashion!!! Thank you, for another great video!!!
And also thanks for the advice about mixing textures and mixing current wardrobe pieces and accessories to avoid the over consumption buy more mentality! 👏
My mistake is buying new clothes as an attempt to take away the sadness of being 10kg bigger than I want to be and thinking the new pieces will magically make me confident and comfortable with my body.
Maybe you could start walking around your neighborhood after supper for half an hour. If you buy some thrift store items, you will save money and can donate them when you lose weight which I am SURE you will.
This is so me! I'm such a basic freak too.....😅 So I'll only invest in the near future in accessories. Two or three scarves, one or two new handbags, some not so expensive jewelry, a red lipstick and nail polish and one or two pairs of shoes to spice up me and my basics in a more personal and colorful way........😊
My mistakes…so many! I tend to buy too many basics, and then not be able to make outfits! Sometimes the pieces I buy are great, but I may not have the right top or bottom to go with. It’s like hoarding!😅. I also have gotten such dark pieces, and when spring rolls around… too dark! I’m getting better, and I appreciate all your tips and tricks for fashion! I’m going to follow on Instagram for more! Thank you! ❤
I love your content!! Such a fresh air, I am sick of neutral outfits. I am desperately trying to add colour and an interesting touch to my outfits. I binged watched all your videos during the night, could not stop, I got so excited! 😂 Recently I got colour analysis done and my biggest challenge is to also keep in mind in terms of colours to add those colours closer to my face. I feel it limits my possibilities. Would you do videos also how you would play with specific colour combinations for the different colour types? I love the complementary colour approach but that leads to using colours which are not in my colour palette. Thanks and please never stop making videos! 🥰 Greetings from Hungary!
I feel the need to buy new clothes each season. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! New viewer, and learning something every time I watch a new video.😊
Well, I'm one big fashion mistake, that's why I'm here to learn from you 😉 But one funny fashion mistake I made years ago was when I was about 7 mos pregnant. I had a sexy, fitted python print tank dress (non-maternity.) I was attempting to dress for dinner out. When I looked in my full-length mirror, I was horrified to realize that I looked like a giant snake that had swallowed its prey whole! A snake should be sleek, not have a giant round belly! Thankfully, I noticed my mistake before going out and changed into something else. Otherwise, I'd say inappropriate footwear is something I notice often -- it's very cool and rainy where I live, and it's important to have water-resistant shoes and boots with traction soles here. Open-toe, slick soled shoes are a mistake in our rainy climate - save them for dry summer days.
I have so many clothes and watching your videos gives me so many attractive options that I would never have thought of eg lilac and yellow. Thank you. Ellena.
My mistake is keeping some clothes too long, if they get worn I mend them and that is fine - but it is when the colour fades and looks washed out they look bad. So I need to dye them. That is why I never buy patterned clothes - you cannot dye them to put back some colour.
I have so many clothes and still wear the same ones all the time. I’ve kept tailored ones for best and now my shape has changed and I will have to get them altered to fit. I wish I’d worn everything more. I’m starting now but so wish I’d started long ago!
I have to say that I love my clothes and my style, but I also really love watching your videos and improving! I’ve had my colors analyzed and learned about my energy and I enjoy putting outfits together. I could work from home every day but I love getting dressed to go into the office two days a week and I feel sorry for the clothes that don’t get worn!!
My style mistake is that I have bought too many black items because I don’t know how to mix and match. And I’m blond and light skin, so it looks very harsh against my complexion. I also never know how to style my long hair so that it looks good, but don’t want to cut it off. I walk or use my bike to work, so I always have to wear shoes that are, well, not very fashionable. Trying to find simple ways to change it up a notch to make it look better. I have a lot to learn. Just found your channel, and I love the way you style! Great ideas 😊
Your mum looks great, she is fabulous! Two things: I just bought a gorgeous swishy, flowers, long pleated skirt in navy, along with tight, chanel-style navy, knitted polo-style top. They look great on, but will see if some pop of colour in a scarf and/or bag will uplift; secondly, I fractured my foot a month ago so am in a "fracture boot" & crutch for another few weeks. This forces me to look at new ways to dress my upper half over inevitable dark bottoms. I have discovered a few little tricks!
Me...I wear the same tracksuit running errands rather than wearing the nice clothes in my closet🤷🏼♀️ also I haven't tried any of the beautiful outfit color combinations you show on your channel. 🤷🏼♀️
Ellena: ❤️🧡💛 your content, vibe, & outlook! Watch you weekly 😊, always 👍🏼, comment never😮. I know it's too late for Mother's Day this year, but would love to see a video each season of you styling your mom. Would be great gift inspo! Don't stop doing what you do!😮
Thank you Ellena for your channel and posting videos with so many useful advices and tips. My biggest mistake was buying shirts or blouses full of colours and prints like floral, geometric, abstract etc. and then found out it did not go with other pcs in my wardrobe and even with me.
Thank you Ellena. Your Mom is such a lovely model! My mistakes have been most of these to be honest, you are right on the mark! Excellent advice to avoid buying new, not getting into a rut not mixing or layering to keep it interesting and keep the clothes you have looking new in fresh combinations!
Hi, I love a scarf and they are a great accessory. can you please do a video on scarves and different ways to use/ tie them? thankyou from australia 🇦🇺
I’m getting more and more into shopping in my wardrobe!!! I tend to have every color that is popular every year!!!! Some items I have not worn in years!!!!😂😂
Love colors but having a hard time with dressing my aging, overweight body. Going through perimenopause has made it harder to lose weight. When i was younger and in better shape i feel like everything looked good on me, now ITS A JOB to look good
Shopping mistakes I keep repeating: Buying what I love instead of for my actual lifestyle. Buying complete "outfits" and ending up with many duplicates. Shopping because I am bored!
My fashion mistake used to be an impulse buyer but I’m much better now. I think my fashion mistake is avoiding proportions that highlight my waist. I’m a rectangle so always feel I try to avoid my waist as I’m straight up and down. I’m trying to over come that but it’s taking time. Xx
Hello Elena, thank you for sharing these wonderful tips with us❤. I really liked your right hand sides bracelet in green, red color, mind telling where is this from?
Thank you, Elena, inspiring as always 😎 My challenge: I love colors very much. I see something colorful and I just buy it. By time I get home, I realize, I have bought something beautiful but it is a stand-alone. The second challenge: sometimes I have the idea I should become a bit more neutral (soft colored) - big mistake. I might wear once maybe twice and then will give it away. I found out, I am able to have neutrals as long as they have high contrast. Colorful can be elegant for me if I do not use multicolored patterns. Then I made up my mind which 2 strong colors should be my preferred colors. I still have pieces of all colors and these I am able to blend with neutrals. I went new season shopping and for the first time I came home with a special white blouse and a black elegant sleeveless blouse. They match exceptionally well with the “old” clothes.
Thank you Ellena for this video. Ik needed a little puch to explore my wardrobe further. You'r video's already helped me to understand what i was missing when it came to basics to create more outfit idea's instead of constantly shopping. I also found my new personal style while a was evolving the past 6 months and i understand my style much better. How ever i use the word mistake with caution, because style is personal and beautiful in every way, so what coun's for a another as a mistake does not have to be for the person that wears the outfit.
My fashion mistake is not to accessorize enough when it gets too hot (I live in Florida) Please us your mom as another model as I am similar age and almost same shape. thanks for the advices
I LOVE the leggings and tunic look. Wore it in the 80/90’s and now…I have to tuck them into pants at the front. 😢. Been buying a lot of belts to give the tuck that finished look. Life goes on🤷♀️
I am taking traditional winter fabric velvet into the warmer months. Velvet is just really not very warm to wear. I guess it's traditionally winter because of the rich fabric and deep jewel colors, so dressy and holiday; but I think it could be experimented with more casual like denim (also other dressy, like lace, with denim).
I have a big problem with accessories. Being a Y-type with long legs but very short torso (and neck) I avoid everything that draws the eye upwards - scarves, necklaces, even belts. So for inside the only thing are rings and shoes. That's a little frustrating. I love your videos ❤
I live in Texas where it is now high 80’s. We will not cool off till probably Nov! Would like to know how to “wear a scarf” but it won’t be around my neck since it is so hot!🥵
Hi Ellena.... I actually LOVE accessorizing myself.... the mistakes I've made is I think I put too much accessories, while Madam Chanel suggests to take off 1 jewellery before leave home.... 🥰 but I still loves it.... I used to be More is More iso Less in More in accessorizing....
My biggest mistake is probably not taking time to style things just taking trousers or a skirt out of the wardrobe and a top ready to go without spending the time to style them so that later in the day or especially when I meet someone who has styled their clothes I feel dowdy and scruffy even thought there is nothing wrong with either outfit per se I think I need to set some time aside to make outfits
Hi I watch your videos regularly. I am always confused with what bottoms to wear if the button color on the shirt is black. Same way for a button down dress in yellow having black buttons, can I wear a white belt?
Thanks for the tips! Shoes are my weak spot as I don’t own many pairs. Big feet and just picky so shoe shopping isn’t my favorite. I focus so much on the outfit and forget about my feet!
I don't know if it's a mistake, but I've never had much for beige or grey neutrals. I'm all about vibrant or pastel colors, especially prints and florals.
Your closet sounds like a solid foundation of timeless classics! And NOW maybe it's time to consider adding accessories or statement pieces in brighter shades to sprinkle in some vibrancy. Even a little pop of color can transform an entire look! My next video is going to be about color combinations! Don't miss it - there would be one example mentioning your situation!
Forgetting to accesorize: you got me there! You have inspired me and I'm going to challenge myself. This spring I'll try on a little more pieces of jewellery but it will be necklaces and bracelets only because I can't stand rings or earrings P.s. I love the blush pink waistcoat!
My mistake is not having the courage to push my style. I put on cute styled things, then quickly change into something plain. I am okay with getting ignored and feel uncomfortable with attention.
I used to do that to myself and I still do from time to time. I encourage you to wear just one of those cute clothes. That's how I did It. I started to take more care of myself one step a time: a cute skirt one day, a new pair of shoes the Next, the skirt and the shows later... It was easier for me than a whole change. I didn't want a big movie reveal and a lote of comments about my appareance, even well-meaning ones. (Do I make sense?) I'm still walking this path and sometimes I revert to shapeless plain clothes For me it is not about the clothes, but about loving myself and don't feel so inadecquate. I'm still an introvert and also I still dress quite simple, but in prettier clothes and more self-assurance
My mistake is not finishing with great accessories and not trying to layer. I am learning slowly and putting on pops of colour. I am looking out for lightweight scarves in bright colours that suit my colouring.
My mistake is that I have a big old room to store clothes & I'm a bit of a 'thrift-thrill' shopper. Quite a collection but don't spend enough time planning outfits..
Yes! What happens when you go inside and take off the coat, the sunglasses and put away the handbag? What’s left? Thank you for addressing this with your accessory tips. I don’t know how many TH-cam stylists neglect the reality that we live indoors!
My mistake is not changing the style with the clothes o already have. And also need to play more with color. My scarfs and jewelry are so matchie matchie with the colors of my outfit.
04/21/24 my fashion mistake us buying long skirts. I am 5’2” tall and bought a 35” skirt! I look like a box! So I’m cutting this skirt to 29” today. I’ve lost 50 lbs in 14 months. Need new summer items now, new Fall/Winter later this year. Plus a new haircut this coming week. Being ‘height challenged’ I’m really reviewing your shows to see what I need to change.
Since letting my hair go grey I'm lost with colours now. I've always been dark and now look drained and unwell. Also so many clothes don't know what I've got. Would like to start from scratch pare down and just have outfits that make me look and feel good.

My mistake is too much black.. Love your channel. I am learning so much about incorporating colour to make an outfit pop.
My biggest mistake is dressing too casual too often, thinking nothing calls for me to look more stylish everyday, so I don’t even try. I love your style! ❤
My biggest mistake is buying fast fashion in the past. Wasting money when i should be spending more on each item but less often.
My fashion mistake is keeping an outfit way too long because I like it - even if it is truly a dated outfit! I notice it more after watching your lessons!! lol
Buying individual pieces randomly but not thinking in terms of complete outfits.
Yeah 🙌🏻 mom’s back! I always love seeing her in your videos. She is so beautiful and stylish.
Although I have various accessories to choose from, I continue to wear only my everyday jewelry
... which is actually great! Perhaps you already own the perfect jewelry set ☺
This is sooo me 😂
Hang it out
You will wear all😅
My mistake is “saving” my new purchase for something in the future!
My biggest challenge is buying things for a pretend life then not having clothes for my real day to day life
I’m guilty of this too. I’ve also worn these outfits, only to feel over dressed and awkward when I look at my friends who are perfectly happy dressing in jeans and a T-shirt while I love being stylish.
Me also lol
I tend to wear the same few outfits on repeat, and fail to utilize many of the items in my closet. Love seeing your hints on changing things up!
@@marywilliams9858 I appreciate your support and positive vibes. It means a lot. 🤗
Styling what I already have in a more creative way !
My biggest mistake is buying too many basics and all very similar pieces 🤔and then the overall outfit might look a bit boring.
If you add accessories it won't be! My mistake is too many statement pieces and not enough basics. 😂
This is so me! I'm such a basic freak too.....😅
So I'll only invest in the near future in accessories. Two or three scarves, one or two new handbags, some not so expensive jewelry, a red lipstick and nail polish and one or two pairs of shoes to spice up me and my basics in a more personal and colorful way........😊
@@ulrikealtmann4655 👍
I have the opposite problem😂
Thanks for including your mom. I'd love to see her styled in more videos.
Recently I got colour analysis done and my biggest challenge is to also keep in mind in terms of colours to add those colours closer to my face.
I love seeing you style your mom too.
Everything is dark is my mistake. Thanks for the great ideas❤
I like this comment while I am wearing bright mustard pants…lol.
😂😂😂 Laughing with you.
Same here. It seems like mud season is months long too. If possible, I get funky fun boots for ‘mucky’ conditions. It helps my attitude
😂😂😂
😂
Rightly said
I have so many clothes and watching your videos gives me so many attractive options that I would never have thought of eg lilac and yellow. Thank you.
FLOWY not flowers *
Your Mom is looking great! I love seeing her in your mix. My big fashion mistake is poor fit - everything slightly too small.
My mistake is to put away clothes from one season and not pair them with oncoming season. Thanks for this tip, Having fun doing this.🎉
Hi, I love a scarf and they are a great accessory. can you please do a video on scarves and different ways to use/ tie them? thankyou from australia 🇦🇺
Just found your channel ! I wear the same old clothes a few pieces over and over
Dressing current for our particular body shape.
Specifically, updated looks for a 59 yr old 5'3" hourglass figure?
I’m getting more and more into shopping in my wardrobe!!! I tend to have every color that is popular every year!!!! Some items I have not worn in years!!!!😂😂
Love colors but having a hard time with dressing my aging, overweight body. Going through perimenopause has made it harder to lose weight. When i was younger and in better shape i feel like everything looked good on me, now ITS A JOB to look good
Yup... learning colors from you is a game changer for me...... Thank you
Shopping mistakes I keep repeating: Buying what I love instead of for my actual lifestyle. Buying complete "outfits" and ending up with many duplicates. Shopping because I am bored!
Me too. I love nice clothes but now we live in a rural area where people dress very casually. There is no where to wear city clothes.
My fashion mistake used to be an impulse buyer but I’m much better now. I think my fashion mistake is avoiding proportions that highlight my waist. I’m a rectangle so always feel I try to avoid my waist as I’m straight up and down. I’m trying to over come that but it’s taking time. Xx
You are just adorable and an inspiration. I love your videos - so informative ❤❤
Hello Elena, thank you for sharing these wonderful tips with us❤. I really liked your right hand sides bracelet in green, red color, mind telling where is this from?
Thank you, Elena, inspiring as always 😎
My challenge: I love colors very much.
Thank you for sharing your expertise. I will definitely take the quiz. ❤❤❤
That scarf is beautiful!
I like your comment that you buy clothes during a new season before checking what you have! That is so me!
My fashion mistake is not to accessorize enough when it gets too hot (I live in Florida) Please us your mom as another model as I am similar age and almost same shape. thanks for the advices
You are very creative and have a lovely mum as well 🥰
Greetings to both of you.
Not accessorizing, I’ll get right on that Ellena 😊
Love this! What color lipstick are you wearing?
Learning, learning....started to accesorize a few years ago, trying not to buy things because I have all I need.
I have a big problem with accessories. Being a Y-type with long legs but very short torso (and neck) I avoid everything that draws the eye upwards - scarves, necklaces, even belts. So for inside the only thing are rings and shoes. That's a little frustrating. I love your videos ❤
Not spending enough time playing dress-up with the clothes that I have. That’s my mistake I need to spend more time being creative in my wardrobe.
Hello, new here, great video! What do you suggest a 56yo 5’1 wear at a Taylor Swift concert that’s comfy chic? 😊 Thank you.
I have too many basics and don’t accessorize enough. I have great accessories so it should be easy
100 day outfit challenge!? Fun! Following! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi I watch your videos regularly. I am always confused with what bottoms to wear if the button color on the shirt is black. Same way for a button down dress in yellow having black buttons, can I wear a white belt?
Thanks for your video, I'm in Lisbon this week and thought of you and your lovely videos
😊
Enjoy. It’s fabulous weather atm.
Looking at my closet I noticed I have mainly black, cream, navy and gray. So I am only wearing basic color …. Not enough color?!
This spring I'll try on a little more pieces of jewellery but it will be necklaces and bracelets only because I can't stand rings or earrings
(Do I make sense?)
I'm still walking this path and sometimes I revert to shapeless plain clothes
For me it is not about the clothes, but about loving myself and don't feel so inadecquate.
I'm still an introvert and also I still dress quite simple, but in prettier clothes and more self-assurance
@@irnalonso This is good advice. Bit by bit, you can expand your personal style. After a while, folks will recognize your good taste every day!
Fab content. Your mom is adorable!!! ❤️🇨🇦❤️
My mistake is not finishing with great accessories and not trying to layer. I am learning slowly and putting on pops of colour. I am looking out for lightweight scarves in bright colours that suit my colouring.
I love love your channel. Thank you so much for the styling tips ❤
My biggest fashion mistake was not checking fabric content. I say "was" because I am extra cautious now!
I wonder if you’d do a video on jewelry choices. I notice that necklaces are not frequently shown ?
My mistake is that I have a big old room to store clothes & I'm a bit of a 'thrift-thrill' shopper. Quite a collection but don't spend enough time planning outfits..
Yes! What happens when you go inside and take off the coat, the sunglasses and put away the handbag? What’s left? Thank you for addressing this with your accessory tips. I don’t know how many TH-cam stylists neglect the reality that we live indoors!
New season, new wardrobe - guilty.
Not having the right shoes to go with my clothes and to be able to walk comfortably.
My mistake is just simply wearing my clothes rather than styling them. This is a must follow.video. Thank you.
Another great video. Thank you!
Since letting my hair go grey I'm lost with colours now. I've always been dark and now look drained and unwell. Also so many clothes don't know what I've got. Would like to start from scratch pare down and just have outfits that make me look and feel good.
Buying from online only to find that the pieces I bought doesn’t fit me.
Thinking I can fit into a smaller size and it pulls across chest
Elena, what country are you in? I love your style and your advices, for US it`s way overdressed unfortunately... its much more casual here
