    People keep saying that MSG is bad for you, but for us Laotian we grew up with MSG and still alive and living well. What about American or whomever that do not eat MSG...coming up with all these cancers and sh***t. Like Nana say "MSG optional, put it if you want to." Keep up the good work Euy Nana loved your cooking, I'm learning a lot of my own Laos food.

    I love the pineapple sauce. It's not as watery like the pa dek sauce. so the sauce stays put in the wrap. mom makes the best. this is the closest I can get to doing it on my own without having to ask her. thank you! !!

    Thank you, sister Nana. I was looking for Lao style pun pa sauce and found your recipe. Just followed your steps and it tasted great.

    Ugh, not another comment about MSG! Lol...You must have missed the MSG discussion on my FB page. ;) This dish and all the dishes I show can be as healthy or unhealthy as you like. You are the one in control of your food. I'm just showing the way I learned. For example, the 'pun mieng' you choose your own ingredients to wrap and decide how much dip you want. Just like American salad, if you drown the veggies in dressing (padek dip), it makes it less healthy.. Thanks, for the comment, though. :)

    Tiffaney, yes there are many different kinds of jeo padek. The one you described is called 'jeo padek kheuang.' This one is 'jeo padek pun mieng.' If you remember, there's also my jeo padek for dipping mango. We Lao love padek. Lol.

    Hiya Nana.. I love your videos..And I know im going to be making this soon ..I have a question tho..are there different kinds of Jeo Padak ? because the one Ive been making is not like this .. Its smashed lemon grass shallots peppers and galanga ..with the padek fermented fish in a jar.. If im not making Jeo Padak can you tell me the name of the dip ive been making Thanks!

    I don't know if you've had 'pun mieng' before, but for the benefit of others who may not have had it before. You will definitely get a heart attack if you slurp up these dips like a soup. :) Pun mieng is around 90% fresh veggies. Then you just drizzle a bit of the sauce on top. As for my other videos, the levels may seem like a lot, but a lot of the stuff I cook can serve around 40 people, so you have to scale down 10 times for a family of 4. And most of the food I show, people dont eat everyday

    The padek sauce for papaya salad is made the same way, by boiling the padek with all the ingredients you want..like crab paste,, makok, and dried shrimp.

    I replied to you comment originally because it sounded like genuine concern and not being a jerk like some other commenters. I usually ignore comments about nutrition on my videos because I already explained in my about page on my channel. This is why I don't get into this kind of discussion. I'll end it here before things get nasty. Just agree to disagree.

    Everything you make looks delicious, but I just can't get over the sodium overload on all your recipes! Whew! All the fish sauce and Padek can lead to high blood pressure and other health detriments. However, I applaud you for having your own cooking videos. 😊

    • @CookingwithNana
      @CookingwithNana  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Lisa, thanks for your kind feedback. Few others haven't been kind about the sodium, especially MSG. :-( I've tried to explain a few other times on other videos, most of my recipes that I've shown are not meant to be eaten everyday and not eaten plain. Also, in my early videos, my recipes were party-size because I like to share with a whole village. If you take into account the other ingredients in each dish, and also the entire meal, the sodium content is not as much as it seems. A full Lao meal also consists of fresh vegetables, rice, and other side items. If I ever get rich from these videos, maybe I will commission a nutritionist to evaluate my recipes, but in the meantime, people are free to modify the recipes to suit their own health and taste preferences. Thank you again for your feedback.
