    I'm starting from scratch with DCC, finding informative video help is hard. I'm no electrician, so this is all new to me. My layout is demanding, in for a penny in for a pound. Your videos are a great help. Thank you.

      Glad to help. I am learning it all as I go.

    Thank you for the video. I have four, maybe five of these turnouts on my layout to modify soon. Big help!

    That's a mighty impressive layout you are attempting to build. The 3 way points are tricky to wire but if done correctly should give trouble free service. Adding the additional wiring will improve the point even more. I noted you glued the point down - I've gone a slightly different route - pin the track and after ballasting remove the track pins. If you decide to change the track plan it's easy to lift. The ballast/PVA glue will keep the track firmly in place. Cheers Euan

      Thanks for the encouragement Euan. I how found that pulling track up that has been glued down with copydex to be relatively easy, but it does not leave the cork roadbed completely untouched.
      This particular 3way point will be under the scenery, so no need to ballast it anyway.

    Many thanks for clarifying why my trains stop moving accross the SL-E399F.... Seems I need to fix it.

      Oh yes. I am hoping to learn all these hard lessons before I get too much track laid!

    I have 2 of these to modify, thanks for the video, did you use any insulated rail joiners at either end of the 3 way switch?

    • @naivegauge

      Glad it is helpful.
      Yes I put IRJs on all the rails that lead away from the frog. So on a normal 2 way point that is the two "inside rails" rails on the diverging end of the point. However for these three-ways, there are 4 "inside" rails that lead away from the frogs, and all 4 of them need IRJs. It is not necessary to insulate the other end of the point though.

    Hi, great video and the only one I've found that covers the subject matter perfectly.. One question, after you have soldered the wires and you show the wires on the underneath, there is one additional at the top right (black), what was that for?

    • @naivegauge
      @naivegauge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What is the timestamp in the video that you are referring to?

      @@naivegauge Hi, 19:18 onwards.

      OK, I see.
      So there are two black wires. One is at the frog end of the point, the other comes off the side. I think the one at the frog end is connected to the
      underneath if the black stock rail. the one that comes off the side is the link between the stock rail and one of the switch rails that we are trying to add power to. I think I left the wire attached as I thought I might be able to use it to power the stock rail, but in the end the point motor was in the way, so I cut it off, just leaving the link in place, and powered the stock rail using the black wire at the frog end of the point.

    I seemed to have issues with focus while you were demonstrating the point at the table it seemed that the camera was having problems focusing it’s a comment made on observation just so you know

    • @naivegauge

      You are quite right - I have really struggled with getting the focus right on some of these close in scenes. I am only using my phone, so it is a bit of a challenge. Since filming this video I have learnt to mount the lens closer to the subject. I also have a new camera app that lets me lock the focus, so that makes things a bit easier. Thanks for your support.

    Even viewed in 1080p and because you're using N gauge, the picture quality is poor.

    • @naivegauge
      @naivegauge  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, I was disappointed with with video quality too.
      It is because I tried to use the digital zoom on the camera (my phone). I have since learned to film fully zoomed out in 4k and then zoom in the shot during the editing process.
