The NEW 2024 Toyota Stout: A CLASSIC Truck for MODERN Enthusiasts

  • Just like the rest of the automotive market, pickup trucks are getting more expensive every year and with the ongoing electrification, they will soon enough be out of reach for an average pickup buyer. That said, it doesn’t surprise that buyers are looking for cheaper alternatives. Many of them found it in the new Ford Maverick, a unibody vehicle with the body of a classic pickup. The demand is so big that Ford still can’t organize the production process to make enough units, two years after the initial launch. And as the world’s largest carmaker, Toyota sees this as a great opportunity for another car segment to conquer. And for that purpose, it’s willing to bring the famous nameplate back, a nameplate that represents the early days of Toyota’s pickup evolution, a nameplate that represents a model that set the foundation for Hilux, Tacoma and other bestsellers. The Japanese carmaker is bringing the new Toyota Stout - a classic name for modern enthusiasts.

Make it ext cab, less cab more bed? Less safety crap, which means fewer sensors and more affordable, also little lighter. And more towing /payload capacity.
Two seats are enough since most of the crew cab are being used for one person. Just look on front driver seats. That's the only one with more tirs and scratches.
Extended cab will leave more room for front passengers comfort when traveling and hable to recline seats and will be awesome little bigger fuel tank and whit fuel efficient to do some serious driving. At least 6 to 8 hundred miles whit out fueling.

In August 2013 I bought a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 2.3L 5 speed 6ft bed for $2400 cash. I still have it! It has about 180,600 miles. Gets about 21 mpg in combined driving. Sure it is not fast and you have to down for steep hills but it starts easily and runs quietly. Other than fluid changes I have not spent $6000 total on this truck that includes the purchase of the truck, a new clutch, brakes (front twice), tires, shocks, two batteries, an alternator and a few other small items. Not bad for a 26 year old vehicle. And it it not rusty!
I would like a new truck with an "access"/"extended" cab but I definitely want a 6ft bed, but now even full size 1/2 ton truck don't have 6ft beds if they are double cabs.

A roll down mono piece back glass would allow for all the extra cargo space getting missed out on in the crew cab. Hell, you could potentially make the cab extending into the back seats area optional with the mono body build. Just flip down the seats and you could stack tons of 8ft long boards in. Or invent a 4ft extendable truck bed.. Thatd be sick.

Why would they want to make it "smaller" than the Maverick? Don't gain anything by making a smaller product. Sure price may be lower, but it will have to perform better from the start to gain any advantage over the Maverick. Needs to be a TNGA Grand Highlander platform.

  • @jjc4577
    @jjc4577 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

If toyota makes this truck, I don't think the Maverick would be much of a competitor. Ford only builds enough Mavericks to make their CAFE numbers and that's it. They sell every Maverick they make, and yet have stated they have no further plans to make additional production. To make more would undercut the Ranger, which makes them more money.

4 door trucks is what everyone has, its boring, not because they wanted it, but because its all the dealers would stock (more money).
IF they had a way to open up the rear cab and extend the bed like its going to the beach. No one has that option right now, but everyone would like that option. Plus a lower bed height to make loading/unloading easier.

If there is a naturally aspirated non turbo version for around 26k I will be buying one for sure especially if a manual transmission is offered, hybrid im not so sure about and the only negative is toyota safety sense it a safety risk to have in high crime high carjacking places like west coast philly baltimore DC etc because they can just throw objects like trash cans or bikes etc in the road in front of you yo force car to stop so they can run up on you they need to allow driver to disable that software in high crime areas, and a manual transmission also deters theft and carjacking too

After owning a crew cab Maverick hybrid, I would not go back to single cab. Crew replaces the need for a car and truck; add all wheel drive and plug-in hybrid with 40-50 mile electric range and you have the best of both worlds. I personally have no need for off-road capabilities, but do tow a small travel trailer, a Scamp 13 foot, so need at least a 2,000 lb towing ability. My Maverick get up to 48 mpg U.S., so I'm kind of spoiled and expect Toyota to match that.

The low end stout will not be a Maverick killer because the Maverick will offer a 250 HP turbo to the Stouts 150 hp 2.7 liter for the same money. No competition there. However, the high end Stout with a 3.5 V-6 would be a Ranger killer because the capabilities are close to the same as the Ranger's low end to midrange model, but with a lot more luxury offered in the Stout for the money. However, this is not all good news for Toyota because it will cost Toyota sales of their Tacoma. A low end Tacoma starts at 34K which is the projected cost of a high end Stout offering better load and towing capacity. It tells me the Tacoma and the Tundra are on their way out and that downsizing will be the new trend for all manufacturers.

I'm first in line. I think they should go the same route as the Tacoma on cab configurations. A full 4 door cab with a short bed, and then an access cab with a smaller back seat and a foot longer bed. Hardly anyone buys regular cabs anymore. An access cab like the new Tacoma, with no back doors would give a little more interior storage, bigger bed, and a more pleasing profile, IMO.

My neighbor wanted a two door truck, but none of the dealers stocked any and he didn't want to wait for the time it take to order one. So he settled for the 4 door, although he rather have the two door.
If Toyota Stout offers 4 door option, then that is all the dealers will stock, barely any of them will stock the regular cab.

The absolute most imp. thing to me is that the back seat flip up to give a flat floor for my dog. I am very surprised no SUV car maker has this in 2023-24. Honda gave up the feature on the HRV and caused me to completely write off the HRV. The Honda Ridgeline has a great back seat flip up/flat floor. That truck though is just to big for me and the MPG is pretty low.

Single cab let's go. Honestly though. The OMV I think probably took that sector of the market. Maybe not though as that's more business oriented

Toyota I begging you please put a normally aspirated four-cylinder engine in the stout. No hybrid and no turbo, hybrid and turbo diminish, the reliability, durability and longevity of an engine.

The problem is .... Toyota hasn't officially announced anything yet so this is all just a guess. At best, hopefully someone there looks at media like this and reads the comments and sees that there is a huge pent up demand for such a vehicle.
You still see a lot of decades old small trucks on the road today because they are pouplar, and you can't buy a similar replacement. I am keeping a 2001 Ford Ranger with a 5-speed manual (even has roll up windows) running for my son to commute to work in. AC and a manual are his only wants in a vehicle he just racks miles up on going back and forth to work. He loves it and wishes there was an equivalent new one he could buy. I'd also buy one, and if Toyota does bring this to market I'd definitely be looking at it.
Fingers crossed, but only time will tell if it is hype or really something headed to market.

If it doesn’t have a 6’ bed, then we will NOT be buying one.
And to get the new Tacoma as a hybrid, they’re too expensive. It’s too bad that Toyota doesn’t offer the hybrid across the line in the Tacoma

If anything, the Rav4 chassis makes the most sense since it's already built in Alabama and Ontario, Canada. No way would they build it in Japan when the market is the USA. Corolla is way too small for a useful American size. The Camry fwd already has an electric motor in the rear to provide 4wd. All the Camry and Rav4 components are already available in the USA.
