Ya I will upgrade my 2005 V6 4x4 and would rather put my money back into it but at 155,456 and no problems at all I take care of it still going strong, at my age this might be my last truck :)
Bought New 22 TRD OR, V6 with Manual Trans in August of 22 for $38,500. And yes, it requires an Ignition Key. Great truck, great ride. Pulls small camping trailer at 2000 rpm - no problem. Love the Truck !!
Do not think all the issues noted will be fixed by the 2025 model year. Tundra’s engine woes are still occurring in what is the 2nd year of the current generation.
Also dump the 8,9,10 speed transmissions. They are just as much a problem as the turbo 4's maybe more. The EPA is killing the entire truck and auto business. These companies will be asking for a bailout within 5 years.
@@westcoastplinkin6559 Maybe it will when Trump puts in new EPA officials. The current EPA nut cases appointed by the current administration are the problem. All this 4cyl 10 speed transmission priority is 100% because of the 2030 EPA restrictions the current "green" EPA put out. Trump is putting the "drill baby drill" people into the EPA. Who can afford $50K to $100K SUV's and $100K plus trucks?
I had 14 Toyotas in my life time and all gave me zero problems, after this new Tacoma I went out and bought a ford bronco raptor, never thought I would ever go with a ford over my love for Toyota, so sad
I love mine. I was worried before buying but it’s a great truck so far. Has all the power I need and off roading is a breeze. Just hope it stands the test of time.
No one is saying otherwise. It’s just that the Tacoma has been the king of value, resale value retention, relatively affordable and above all reliable, easy and affordable to maintain. Good for half a million miles if done so even yourself. The new gen just doesn’t tick those boxes and we are seeing even the die hard fans pass on buying one and even leaving the brand. Very sad.
You must have been one of few lonely sir. I don’t recall anyone asking Toyota to give us less for more. Less engine, less quality, less reliable, less resale value, less longevity but 20% more$? I guess if Toyota came along and slapped you on the back and said hey loyal customer! Good news! We found a way to give you even more torque and HP in a new 2 cylinder quad turbo engine! It will only cost you more you would be the fool that says thank you!? Sorry fella you’re one of very few that asked for that! I’m glad you enjoy your truck I really am as you might be keeping it for the 8-10 years it might last if you have deep pockets to keep it running. Best of luck!
wanted to upgrade from 2020 trd sport it was 48 k no power seats small infotainment screen all upgrades how do you design a 50k truck without a power drivers seat, purchased a 2024 gmc canyon at4
I bought the Toyota Tacoma 2024 so far no problems, its pricey yes & it has a beautiful look, give it a break. I'm sure they will correct there mistakes just like any other truck.❤
What a great truck! I haven’t had a single issue to date. 10K miles. Still the best mid sized truck hands down. Sales for 2024 were 192,000 far surpassing all other brands. GM was the second closest at 70,000 units.
I simply will not buy a 4 wheel drive pickup with a 4 cylinder engine. Maybe it has enough power but after 75,000 miles that motor will get tired and have problems, they tried this in the 70's and we all know how that worked out with small displacement power trains. Bring back the 6 cylinder or I will not buy another Tacoma!
Yes the power is different between a 4 and a V6. A V6 has a lot of low end torque so when you take off you have got to get up and go the four cylinder to get the power. It has to be revving higher and you just don't get that off the line
Recalls won’t tarnish car brands as long as problems are addressed. And the biggest reason why people don’t like it is because they love the V6 NA. Turbos usually have issues especially with age and people buy Toyotas for their longevity so it’s a no brainer.
I was considering trading in my 2012 Toyota Tacoma Sport for the 2024 Toyota Tacoma off road, up until the reviews started popping up with the new Tacomas having issues. So I figured I'll get a 2024 Tundra then, and to my surprise those vehicles are also having issues. That being said I decided to keep my current truck for a few more years. I'm sure Toyota will do everything in their power to fix these issues as they always have. If Toyota for some miracle brings back the reliable V6 engine, you better believe I'll be placing my order ASAP. 🤞
This sucks I've had the 2006 Tacoma and the 2015 both TRD off-road 06 with 196 and my 15 with over 200+.. I'm now in the market for a new truck.. I've read the 24 are having transmission problems and the 25 no ones a fan of the engine IDN anyone recommend a midsize truck that's some what dependable..Merry Christmas & Happy New Year.
I think you hit each nail, on the head..especially, the turbo 4…it may have been tested on a car, but we’re talking about towing..uphill grades, with heavy loads/trailers..MUCH DIFFERENT then in a car, or non towing life…
It has also not been tested with these new 8,9 & 10 speed transmissions. Everyone is having problems getting these transmissions to work with the new 4 cyl turbos. There are a boatload of electronic sensors etc which must be synchronized. Nobody can get them to reliably work. Add on all the new EPA safety and emissions regulations garbage and you have a train wreck. Even the relatively simple Subaru CVT is struggling a great deal with these turbo engines. It will take five years to straighten out this mess assuming it can be and before then the new batch of regulations will make things twice as bad.
When the lease was ending on my '21 Tacoma the replacement truck wasn't available yet. I explored other avenues & realized that the Tundra was only a couple grand over the new Taco & that didn't make sense to me. So I decided to go with a '24 Tundra rather than extend my lease to wait for the new truck. I am SO GLAD that I did. I love my Tundra - so much more comfortable, way more power, and the nicest ride in the industry.
I bought a new 2023 Tacoma base model with 2WD, to avoid dealing with the aggravation of a turbocharger. I will not buy a vehicle with a turbocharged engine. Those engines pretty uniformly seem to have durability and reliability issues. I noted that the new extended-cab Tacomas have no rear doors opening in to the jumpseat-cargo area, instead having front seats that have to be tilted forward for access. This is VERY inconvenient when dealing with sacks of groceries or installing child-seats. Also, the tailgates on the new models have eliminated the damper that allows the tailgate to be dropped open without slamming down to the open position, usually hitting your leg in the process. BILL
Yes, all the colors offered are the paints using the cheapest pigments that are available. The other nicer colors the pigments are more expensive. Everything Toyota's doing is to cut costs and every year they're giving you less and less than the trucks. But the prices keep going up and up. It's insane
Ya you give us DISK BRAKES finely all-around front and back but then you take away the V6 Get rid of that crappie 4cylinder and put it back in the road car you took it from and give us back the V6 never ever will you see a truck with a 4cylinder in it and no matter how many turbos you put on it it still has no place in a Tacoma 4X4 give less and pay way more I dont no what there smoking over there I hope it stays there Very unhappy Tacoma lover Ya I will upgrade my 2005 V6 4x4 and would rather put my money back into it but at 155,456 and no problems at all I take care of it still going strong, at my age this might be my last truck :)
technical problems I dont care about. This has always been an issue with Toyota first year or so run.. They usually fix them. My problem is price. Geezus, its not funny anymore Toyota.
I have been a tacoma or 4Runner owner since the mid 90's . My 2012 was involved in a wreck and I ended up with a 2023 V6 offroad. This will be my last Tacoma ever. I am lucky to have the normally aspirated V6 but the AT sucks. Had I known just how bad the made in Mexico and transmission issues are I would have purchased a Nissan. The price increase, a turbo 4 cyl, made in Mexico boo boos and the list goes on have made me wonder what is going on with the management of the truck that has been so good to in a short time fall apart. Sad for us long time Tacoma Fans.
Guys, if you have this 2024 turbo Taco, just use a full SYNTHETIC oil, FRAM filter and oil change every 10,000 miles and you will be good to go. No need to overthink this stuff!
I've always loved Toyota. Have had a few of their trucks, including the f j cruiser which was great. Traded it in for a Nissan Frontier, which I liked much better than the tacoma it has a v six instead of the turbo four of tacoma. Better visibility and feels extremely solid.
Crappy turbo engine, hollow build quality, ongoing reliability concerns, freak-show pricing. As a decades long Toyota truck loyalist, I bought a new Nissan Frontier. NA V6, quiet, well-built, fair pricing. It’s the truck Toyota should have built.
I have a 2019 TRD Off Road 4x4 48,000 miles. I am on my 2nd transmisssion and this one is starting to be difficult to get out of park into reverse. Also Toyota removed the sound insulation from under the hood and it is noisy. I got a real good deal on it, $39,000.00 out the door, was going to trade it in on the 2024 but will wait. May get a colorado ZR-2.
I’ll keep my dependable 05 Taco, thanks but no thanks on these newer models. A little maintenance spend goes a long way on the older frames. No way I’m paying up (bigly) for a mew raft of issues…
my favorite Tacoma of all the ones I've had was my 1997 four-cylinder five speed, manual hubs, real transfer case lever not a button or knob. Crank windows. cloth seats, smaller and more fun size. no touch screen. bring that rig back.
I currently drive a 2010 Tacoma.and i was excited to see the 2024 come out and i was considering buying one until i saw the price tag and was disappointed with a 4cyl no thanks I’ll keep driving my perfect to me 2010
I bought an off road. I love it. Very happy with the truck. Ride is great, mileage is great, handles and brakes well. Glad I bought the truck. Power is where you need it, impressive.
I’ve been a Toyota owner since 1988. I’ve always considered the brand as a long term investment in reliability. When I see the complex turbo engine and the big screen TV on the dash I see these new trucks as a No-buy choice. That’s too bad.
I bought a 2024 Trd sport, probably the best decision I’ve made and I think it’s the best design out of all the new midsize trucks…. My only problem is all the screens but maybe it’s because I’m a old head when it comes to cars and trucks
I'm a Toyota fan, but they have priced these new trucks way beyond what most folks can afford. Add to that, changing the drive train to "supposedly" achieve better gas mileage; or moving away from tried and true components that have been used for years is forcing customers to other brands!
Haha, long wait times for repairs?? My 23 Colorado has been at the dealer going on 3 weeks because they can’t find a radiator hose!! Plus it’s transmission problems and electrical problems…
Too many compromises made to accommodate the hybrid system. Everything from seats that no longer flip down with a plastic tray that you can use to the price increases. You can't even get a power sliding rear window as standard. None of the Tacomas competition offers a hybrid option, therefore they can offer better pricing with better options than what you get from this heap. As a long time Tacoma fan I just don't see one of these in my future at least not without some major price drop which I don't believe is possible again because of the hybrid and the fact that they (Toyota) have to pay for it somehow. Just my 2c.
Toyota shouldn’t be letting governments ( the liberals) tell them what to do. They need to be their own boss No government should be able or allowed to tell a reliable business/ company what to do. Period. Tell those ‘go green’ , save the planet sheet-heads to find another beech!
It seems to me the trouble Toyota is having with loyal Tacoma owners like me is I don’t really need to replace my older Tacoma because they just don’t wear out. It would be nice to trade in my 2007 Tacoma king cab with only 170,000 miles for a newer model but, not having the 6 cylinder engine available and the crazy price made me re-think my decision. ( wife got a new car though) My 2007 is not close to wearing out and it’s worth as much today as what I paid for it used in 2009. I’m retired and I could easily afford a new Toyota even at the 60k price but, I didn’t get wealthy by buying foolish bling.

Got all gen !! The 4th is by far my favorite .
Ya I will upgrade my 2005 V6 4x4 and would rather put my money back into it but at 155,456 and no problems at all I take care of it still going strong, at my age this might be my last truck :)
@@traskstoneworks I have a 2022 Tacoma and a 93 Toyota Pickup with a 5 speed and long bed. I love that old thing!
@@westcoastplinkin6559 My 93 was a standard bed! 234 miles and didn't burn a drop of oil!
Bought New 22 TRD OR, V6 with Manual Trans in August of 22 for $38,500. And yes, it requires an Ignition Key.
Great truck, great ride. Pulls small camping trailer at 2000 rpm - no problem. Love the Truck !!
Mannnnn…I will stick with my 2006 6spd manual Tacoma with 190,000 miles all day over these newer ones.😊👍🏾
Do not think all the issues noted will be fixed by the 2025 model year. Tundra’s engine woes are still occurring in what is the 2nd year of the current generation.
TOYOTA FAN - BUT THEY MESSED UP THE TUNDRA AND TACOMA
Put the v6 back in and get rid of the turbo. Lower the price to be more competitive.
Also dump the 8,9,10 speed transmissions. They are just as much a problem as the turbo 4's maybe more. The EPA is killing the entire truck and auto business. These companies will be asking for a bailout within 5 years.
V6 is not coming back ever.
The thought of 4/cyl turbo will never subside and that's why I'm holding on to my 21' Tacoma TRD Pro (white) for liiiiiiiiiiife!!!!!
I agree with my 08 but idiots will crash our trucks be careful
I had 14 Toyotas in my life time and all gave me zero problems, after this new Tacoma I went out and bought a ford bronco raptor, never thought I would ever go with a ford over my love for Toyota, so sad
LOL good luck with that.
No V6 and to much good bye toyota 😂😂😂
Me either thats why i do my research and I found a 2023 TRD Off Road with only 11.000 miles on it and gold warranty!
Smaller engine and turbo means higher rpms.
Toyota needs a wake up call.
I love mine. I was worried before buying but it’s a great truck so far. Has all the power I need and off roading is a breeze. Just hope it stands the test of time.
Hoping you leased yours. These trucks are and will depreciate big time. Just no confidence they will last beyond 150-200,000 miles.
@@Seaward1224 Every vehicle depreciates. Even my 3rd gen 2022 Tacoma off road with a NA V6 depreciates.
Very sad.
@@Seaward1224 Well people wanted a change from the 3.5L V6 and they got it. Too bad, so sad. Be careful what you wish for!
Immediately add old v6 as an option, with major price reduction... then maybe
4 Banger turbo, made in Mexico and way too expensive! Toyota has lost their minds!
Not a fan of the turbo for a truck. My VW Golf Alltrack has one and it is great but obviously a different type of vehicle.
I'm sure glad I went out and bought a new 2023 SR5 4 Wheel Drive 6 Cylinder before they became difficult to find.
Smart move!
Yesyesyes
Same
'23 I4 4x4 for me, OTT tune planned.
wanted to upgrade from 2020 trd sport it was 48 k no power seats small infotainment screen all upgrades how do you design a 50k truck without a power drivers seat, purchased a 2024 gmc canyon at4
I bought the Toyota Tacoma 2024 so far no problems, its pricey yes & it has a beautiful look, give it a break.
I'm a Toyota fan Our family owned 2 Tacoma's (2002 and 2012) 100 Series Land Cruiser a 2004 Toyota 4Runner V8 but I'm not a fan of 2024 Toyotas
I drove a 2024 Manual. Not impressed. Where’s the diesel engine?
I simply will not buy a 4 wheel drive pickup with a 4 cylinder engine. Maybe it has enough power but after 75,000 miles that motor will get tired and have problems, they tried this in the 70's and we all know how that worked out with small displacement power trains. Bring back the 6 cylinder or I will not buy another Tacoma!
Yes the power is different between a 4 and a V6. A V6 has a lot of low end torque so when you take off you have got to get up and go the four cylinder to get the power. It has to be revving higher and you just don't get that off the line
I'll keep my 2021 Tacoma V-6 until the wheels fall off....
I agree the price is too high but most complainers have not even driven one.
I just bought a Tacoma Hybrid and love it except the price.
Recalls won’t tarnish car brands as long as problems are addressed. And the biggest reason why people don’t like it is because they love the V6 NA. Turbos usually have issues especially with age and people buy Toyotas for their longevity so it’s a no brainer.
Not buying another Tacoma til they adjust the prices. Toyota is losing alot of its loyal base because of this!
It looks like I will be keeping my 22 model.
That's the smartest move you can make. Keep that you're more valuable than these new ones will be
Guess I’ll just drive my V6 Taco into the ground or until they take my keys away. 😂
No mention of the Re-Designed GMC Canyon which is a Gorgeous Mid size Truck..
All trucks are outrageously priced!!! Not just Toyota!!! Most new productions have a period of fine tuning... I love my Taco!!!
What a great truck!!
Put v6 in the taco, and V8 in the tundra.
BILL
The only colors they offer are basic colors.
Yes, all the colors offered are the paints using the cheapest pigments that are available. The other nicer colors the pigments are more expensive. Everything Toyota's doing is to cut costs and every year they're giving you less and less than the trucks. But the prices keep going up and up. It's insane
Ya you give us DISK BRAKES finely all-around front and back but then you take away the V6
Get rid of that crappie 4cylinder and put it back in the road car you took it from and give us back the V6 never ever will you see a truck with a 4cylinder in it and no matter how many turbos you put on it it still has no place in a Tacoma 4X4 give less and pay way more I dont no what there smoking over there I hope it stays there Very unhappy Tacoma lover
Ya I will upgrade my 2005 V6 4x4 and would rather put my money back into it but at 155,456 and no problems at all I take care of it still going strong, at my age this might be my last truck :)
Toyota has fallen off a cliff! A massive price hike for a new reliability failure prone truck. No thanks!
Will trucks eventually have 1 cylinder 2 cup engines with 20 turbos and 72speed transmissions
technical problems I dont care about.
I would change the oil at 5k.
Grab up a low mileage 3rd gen while you can.
Such an ugly redesign. Toyota dropped the ball on this on top of the horrible rear leg room and astronomical price
3rd Gen had that iconic silhouette/shape.
The 4th Gen, look like a baby Tundra.
@Kuya_Gil when I see it in my rear view mirror it looks like a Kia. The tundra looks way better than this.
I own a 2021 Four Runner TRD/PRO and have had zero problems with it, and I wouldn't own a turbo-anything nor a Hyrid-anything.
my favorite Tacoma of all the ones I've had was my 1997 four-cylinder five speed, manual hubs, real transfer case lever not a button or knob. Crank windows. cloth seats, smaller and more fun size. no touch screen. bring that rig back.
I currently drive a 2010 Tacoma.and i was excited to see the 2024 come out and i was considering buying one until i saw the price tag and was disappointed with a 4cyl no thanks I’ll keep driving my perfect to me 2010
I love my 2005 Tacoma TRD Off Road, V6 with all options. I only have 21,000 original miles on it. So I’m keeping it.
I bought an off road. I love it. Very happy with the truck. Ride is great, mileage is great, handles and brakes well. Glad I bought the truck. Power is where you need it, impressive.
I have one on order. I'm not worried about getting stuck with a lemon. Toyota will take care of me. The many major mistakes do worry me though.
They put a sucky 4cyl in them JUNK!
I’ll keep my 2018 tundra XP trim. 5.7 and 20 inch wheels. Had 2011 Tacoma v6 great truck. Traded it at 150k miles no problems.
4 cylinder turbo mid size truck for 65k is not worth the money. Plenty of other trucks out there.
Haha, long wait times for repairs?? My 23 Colorado has been at the dealer going on 3 weeks because they can’t find a radiator hose!! Plus it’s transmission problems and electrical problems…
My 2017 GMC Canyon Denali is a piece of junk with 37K. My frontier was bulletproof
Oh, and the New Toyota Tacoma is ugly and cheap. Epic failure Toyota. Do not buy!
Interesting article.
I’ll keep my Gen 3, but if they come out with a diesel 4 cylinder at decent price I’d look at it.
I am sticking with my '22 Tacoma TRD Offroad for a long while.
I am glad I have a 2020 TRD ..
I'll stick with my 3rd gen 😌
