  • Join us as we start our overland adventure in our Toyota 4Runner south of Creede, CO in Rio Grande National Forest. We check out the mining history around Creede and the Bachelor Loop then head up Stony Pass and camp in a dispersed camp site near Pole Creek. On Day 2 we make the 6 mile trek up to Kite Lake to have a look around and return to Stony Pass for another night of dispersed camping on a hilltop.

We've fallen in love with the San Juan's and couldn't resist going back for the 4th summer in a row. We've seen a lot, but there is always something new to explore here. Stony Pass and Kite Lake were one of the places we hadn't been to yet. More from this trip to come if I find time to edit..

Quite the setup you got! I might have to buy that ace venture fire pit for cooking

Thanks, recently I've been trying out a few propane options, but nothing beats a real fire when its safe and legal to have.

We had fun. Stony Pass was really stony and the road the Kite Lake was a bit technical for my liking but as always Clint handled it like a champ.

      It was a rocky road.

Me and my father dude Stoney pass on august 14th 2023 with my almost stock 2015 Chevy Silverado 2500hd ltz z71. I have 35s and fox 2.0 shocks and Stoney wasn’t difficult. One corner the back left tire came off the ground which scared me and my father but it was good otherwise. Got tight in some spots and met a lot of other vehicles in spots that was rough to maneuver around. I would highly recommend Stoney Pass!!

Nice glad you enjoyed it. The off shoot up to kite lake seemed a little more sketchy than the main route. I’m always hesitant to comment on difficulty of trails because people’s opinions vary so much.

You drove right past our house. We live in Spring Creek Ranch right off of Rio Grande Reservoir Road.

We're from Beaumont, TX, east of Houston, and we'll be taking Stony Pass from Creede to Silverton in about 3 weeks. Good video. I was wondering who bought that 4Runner...it's a super set up.

Nice, you will love it. Yea, it worked out pretty good for us, the list of stuff we wanted to to do the truck was fairly small vs. starting out with a stock one.

I'm really bummed that I didn't know about this route when I was in the area last.
Where was your campsite at the beginning? I've been looking for something secluded along the Rio Grande, east of Creede.

I think that was one of many spots off pooltable road, but there is other NF access north of the Southfork area.

Hi, I liked the setup and the content. Indeed, it is an excellent
effort. I too nurture similar interest. I have watched almost all your videos
and all of them are very entertaining. I too have made effort in the same
direction taking inspiration from you and few others. Do watch and give your
    suggestions and feedback. Keep Rocking!
