    I'd say they're worth the $10 each at full price, especially given the Steam mod support and HD integration for Kotor 2. These are two games that I spent countless hours playing when I was younger, and I still play them now.

    • @Coldkill2001
      @Coldkill2001 8 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Rastasolid l Maybe. I'm not a huge fan of story driven games. My only real issue with the voice acting is that it limited the amount of content they could make in the time they allowed themselves.

    • @tylergalligani6450
      @tylergalligani6450 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +Rastasolid l THIS is the problem with fallout 4's dialogue. Not the voiced protagonist, it's the choices that ruined it. They're literally all the same option and have no impact whatsoever. Why even have them in that case?

    • @HolyknightVader999
      @HolyknightVader999 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Fallout 4 was trying too hard to be like Mass Effect, complete with voiced protagonists and a dialogue wheel. Not the right choice to make. It should have been more like KOTOR instead.

It's an amazing RPG and I have chosen it over Fallout for like the last week whenever I have some free time to play games. I tweeted at you earlier this week Matty and you RT'd me, and just thank you again, this is an awesome game!

    KOTOR to me is something that honestly made me into a diehard Star Wars fan(Legends fan). To get personal, I used to watch the original trilogy with my uncle(who has long since been deceased) and I remembered loving those films. And the prequels I enjoyed. In short, I was a casual fan. I always knew of the Expanded Universe and never got into it as I thought it seemed too complicated. I digress.
    I'll never forget when I stumbled onto my cousin who picked up and played this game. And wow. From the music to the graphics, gameplay and story, I was super immense. I'll be honest. When i watched the Original trilogy, I enjoyed them, but it never hit me how big and vast the world was. This game is a best of both worlds, combining the high world building of the PT and the heart, story and characters of the OT. I laughed, I cried. I was left speechless. To me, THIS game is Star Wars at its finest. I daresay, it's the magnum opus of the franchise. Even more than Empire. And I love Empire.
    This game was what made me a Star Wars fan, seeking out all the media, novels, comics, whatever was out there. And even while having such a scope of knowledge, I'll always love KOTOR.
    If I could I'd thank every single person who worked on the game, because to me this is best contribution to the mythos since the original trilogy. May the Force be with you, everyone.

    My brother and I still talk about scenarios in this game as if they are our own real life memories. There are open world games. And then their our open mind games. And this game lets you explore a world with in a world with just a few choices. This game compels you to replay it at least 2 additional times. A game developers really should take notes on.

    I got these games the respective years they came out and have put at least 2 thousand hours into these games each, combined through Xbox and PC, and they are, without a doubt, my all time favorite games ever. Never before, nor since, have I come across a game so beautifully written and designed with characters that are deep. Your morality is always being questioned at every turn, even the shades of grey within these masterpieces having their own, respective, even more greyed out areas. Star Wars is the best multifaceted multimedia idea to come from humanity since forever, and with these games came the pinnacle of gaming. I am 100% sure I will never find another series as good as this magnificent piece of art.

    I was born in 2000, when I was around 5, my family and I moved to France. One day my older brother bought an XBOX and Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic 2, I was incredibly young, but man, how great it was for my first Star Wars RPG to be The Sith Lords. TO THIS DAY I give the game a TRUE 10/10 rating where I am HAPPY to overlook cut content (Which, thanks to TSLRCM, is irrelevant today) and, I don't know what else, as Matty says the gameplay is not modern (I AM OVERLOOKING THAT BECAUSE THE GAME IS TOO DAMN GOOD)
    Hell YES I am a FANBOY but who wouldn't be when the first video game dropped into your hands is one of the greatest of all time?
    Look it up if you don't believe me, SWKOTOR, either the 1st or 2nd game, is in the TOP 3 of all time best Star Wars video games (with Star Wars: Battlefront 1 or 2 in the mix), and sure as hell in Top 100 of best RPGs of all time.

      a similar story for me: I was born in 2001 and I was 4 and my Aunty got Star Wars best of the PC collection (all best star wars games) and from that time I absolutely loved Kotor more than any other one there. Though I didn't know what was going on I played it a year later and man it was so much better. Even if I never becomes canon again it will always have a special place in my heart

    Bought the game, played for almost 20 hours, Steam screwed up, I lost all of my saves; I got depressed, shrugged, and restarted. I don't think any of you understand how odd that is for me. I usually NEVER replay a game, ESPECIALLY if something like that happens. That just goes to show how much I adore KotOR. It's a little confusing if you have no former knowledge of the game mechanics (it was a lot easier the second time around), but you can catch on fairly quickly. The worlds are huge and beautiful for such an old game, and the story is freaking fabulous. I'd recommend this game 10/10 hands down.

    Cool video here. I couldn't agree more that these games are both *"must play"* games. I just got both of them fpr PC on sale for $3.49 each (as well as a few other STAR WARS games) about a week and a half ago on GOG. I also got the KOTOR II: Sith Lords Restored Content mod that restores a lot of the cut content in the game due to EA rushing Bioware to release the game too early as wrll as the Droid Planet mod that adds a lot more depth to the original backstory.
    Gonna be my first time ever playing the game like that and I can'can't wait. I hope the game plays smoothly and without hiccups. I've been trying to convince my cousin to play these games and I feel he's almost there. I just have to give him a few more nudges. Again, cool video here.
    (P.S. By the way, don't know if you know but, metal swords were a part of the STAR WARS Expanded Universe before KOTOR was made. The same Expanded Universe that the KOTOR games are in...)

    Matt didn't mention it but if you play through KOTR 1 a certain plot point will leave you jaw dropped. So when playing 2 (which you will after the awesomeness that is 1) don't get your expectations too high for some major jaw dropping moments as good as the first game. 2 is AMAZING, but the story doesn't hit you in the chest leaving you breathless like 1 did.

    There have been so many Star Wars games made, and these are incredible on every level. I still play them once in awhile. It's not good for 2010, it is great for 2017. I bought them again on Steam last year, in a package, for $9.99, and it is still worth the 49.99 I paid for each way back when.
    Pod racing, Pazaak, great battles, great story, great crafting, did I mention great? So many aliens, choices, customization... I can't say anything bad about it.

Keep it up Matty!

      I know I‘m kinda 6 years late to your comment. I think fast paced action would be great for the remake. Maybe do something like final fantasy 7 remake did where you have the option to play on the new combat system or a classic mode with the old system. That way you make the game more accessible for players and everyone will be happy 😁

That awesome feeling of getting more and more powerful is soooo satisfying! And all the knowledge you learn throughout these games, about reven and malak, jedi civil war, force bonds, how to kill jedi, sith techniques etc. Just awesome and essential to any SW fan!

    I played it and graphics didn't matter or the really heavy and kinda confusing RPG and skill system. I mainly couldn't get with the turn based system. Probably because of all of the action RPGs now, this game is definitely a true RPG, for better or for worse (regarding people who have never played it and are used to action instead of turn based).

    I tried this game about 10 years ago and couldn't get into it, despite being a big Star Wars fan. But I also didn't have the patience for these kind of RPGs back then, opting for more casual Oblivion-esque RPGs and FPSs. You've convinced me to give it another look now that my RPG taste has grown more refined.

    Such an epic game series and yes it is arguably the best game series of all time, we need another Star Wars RPG from Bioware although I'll admit that I dont think a Kotor reboot would work (they should just make a game set 100 years after TOR imo, no need to get rid of all the great lore) if not that then one set between Episodes 3 and 4, I dont really see a KOTNR game working as there isnt really a New Jedi Order in the new canon...either way, Bioware get on it and give us another epic Star Wars RPG!

    I've been subscribed to this channel for a while and I've heard Matty gush about his love for KOTOR, and I always have agreed. This was my favorite game on Xbox and I still love it to this day. With original Xbox emulation coming to Xbox One soon I really want this to be one of the available titles.
    On another note I'd really love it if Matty did a walk through or Let's Play on the KOTOR series. Seeing his reaction and seeing the community interact as we all adventure through the lush fields of Dantooine, or the dense dangerous underbelly of Kashyyk, would do wonders for my viewing pleasure.

I bought the PC disc sets of both games when i moved on to a PC but the discs are old and kinda on their last legs so i was thinking of re getting them on steam for the smoother file management and lack of need of the discs. Like you I really want a remastering of the games or even better a brand new game. I really hope they get their butts in gear and make one or even both of these things happen. Throughout my life, I've always been a Star Wars fan. I played the LEGO games, Battlefront, Battlefront II, even Super Bombad Racing. In early 2016, I came across Knights of the Old Republic on Steam. I bought both of them because I'd heard they were good. When KotOR finished installing, I started it up. I then didn't put the game down for 8 hours without a break. It was very nostalgic for me because Jeremy Soule did the soundtrack (Harry Potter Games, Elder Scrolls). It's an amazing game and anyone who is reading this should buy the game if you enjoy a unique story, romantic attractions and expanded universe tales. I still haven't finished KotOR II yet but it's amazing so far. The first KotOR will always be my favorite though.

    As for video games introducing kids to Star Wars, I was 4 when the Phantom Menace came out, so I knew what Star Wars was as a concept, through cultural osmosis. 4 years later, at a family friend's house, the family friend let me play his GBA, for which he had Star Wars: The New Droid Army.
    For those unfamiliar, it was an isometric game that came out in 2002, and in it you play Anakin, in the interim between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. It's a good detective story, and it's interplanetary as well, it's a huge game for the format it was, and the combat was really good as well. Underrated game imo.

    call me creazy ..i think I like swotor more than kotor. why? well in swortor you can play as a sith and as a jedi starting in the academy of each one. each class have their own unique story. and very good story for each class the sith inquisitor story was amazing and warrior too. The combat in Swotor is amazing and now 2016 is way better. Kotor combat is good but not that special is very repetitive.

      MMO are repetitive but in swotor at least you have two factions the sith and the republic with amazing classes with different stories.

      Rastasolid l I still like more Swotor. while kotor 1 and 2 have a very good story. Swotor have not just one good story but many good stories. different experinces. an overall better experiance for me. While i spend a lot of hours in the kotor series i still play swotor and not even experiance everything. the game keep getting more conent sh.RP .pvp. new dlcs. But SWOTOR is an MMO while kotor series are rpg single player is unfair to campare them in all aspects. Everything is base on the player taste. some player like you love the single focus story of kotor while some player like me love the many stories focus.

    I need to get these on steam, I played them way back in the day and loved them. A few months ago I picked up KOTOR 1 on Android and played through it on my phone. This game has so much story, and is told through so many little scenes that I didn't realize how much of it I had forgotten, it was like I had never played it before.
    I was further blown away by how well these games hold up in terms of content. The graphics are really outdated for sure, but the game is honestly good enough that I stopped noticing within my first 15 minutes.
    I agree, if someone likes western style rpg's and/or star wars I sincerely doubt they would have any regrets after buying this for $10, regardless if they had played it before or not. There are really good reasons why KOTOR 1 & 2 show up on best games of all time lists all over the internet.

      The story. Both games have great story, but KOTOR one to me feels better written. I like the characters and story progression more. But if i have to point something specific it will be the AMAZING plot twist with Revan.
      -----------------------------------SPOILER------------------------------------
      When you find out that you are Revan, that for me was just the best plot twist i have ever seen.

    • @Advancedgod
      @Advancedgod 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Davidrsq Can I just say thanks for the spoiler warning! Not many on youtube are so considerate.
      I just started KOTOR 2 and finished 1 recently, but so far I find the writing of 2 to be much better than 1. I loved 1, it was great, I loved most characters, and that twist was mindblowing, but already in KOTOR 2 the Sith lord with the broken body is so incredibly threatening compared to Malak, who seems like a cartoon villain by comparison.
      The writing is deeper and darker than Star Wars has any right to be and I love it. But I get that it's unStarWarsy, and I hear that without the Restored Content Mod the game seriously breaks down in the plot departement in late game. We'll see! I'm only on Telos just now. But it's funny how games that look so similar can feel so different.

    • @Davidrsq
      @Davidrsq 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Advancedgod I can see why you say that. KOTOR 2 does have a darker story, and Darth Nihilus is certainty an interesting character. I guess is just a matter of taste. I like KOTOR 1 better and i can see you like KOTOR 2 better, but we can agree that both are grat games.

    I remember as a little kid going to movie trading company with my grandmother and seeing kotor 2 on the shelf (I had no idea what it was) I thought the cover art looked cool so I begged my grandmother to buy it for me and she finally agreed, at the counter the guy helping us asked me "are you sure you want THIS game?" at the time I thought he was making a knock on my age being under the "T for teen" advisement, but I said "yeah" and so he chuckled and put it in the bag and rang it up, when I got home and started playing I naturally fell in love with the game, but I quickly realized none of the characters from the cover art of the case were in the actual game, I later realized when I was a bit older that the cashier that day switched the kotor 2 disc out for kotor 1 when I wasn't looking, he did me a huge favor and had I not, maybe I would not have found my favorite game of all time!

    Old video; but it’s worth mentioning that the original KoToR crashes right after the character creation screen unless you turn off shadows and frame buffer. I was very frustrated for about 30 minutes until I finally looked it up on a forum. LOL!
    But I’m a noobie into this series (just found the code to get off of Taris, don’t spoil anything for me) but I can confirm everything you’re talking about. I can’t wait to see what else the game offers, but just the first planet of Taris has been an incredibly rewarding and expansive experience. Slow gameplay? So what? I can play the Battlefronts and Jedi Outcasts if I wanted something faster. This game is all about world-building, and the slow pace is incredibly effective in this format.
    And although I’m not usually a fan of turn-based combat, this game makes it very easy to grasp what your options are, and once you have a squad, you’ll be able to take everybody down fairly quickly.
    I am just absolutely in love with this game already, and I can’t wait to see what else it offers.

    KOTOR's story is what really got me in to Star Wars honestly :) I was really shocked during the plot twist and actually had to take a 30 minute break to take it all in lol.

    I still remember when I first got the old style x box, I went to my local store & bought a bunch of second hand games to muck around on. I just picked this one as I like Star Wars, but I wasn't really sold on the setting being centuries before the films were set... I played the game for a solid year, just replaying different games to see what different characters & classes did.

    I tried this game after buying it in the current humble bundle and boy was it hard to get into. I gave it an hour and that was enough for me to realize it's just too slow for my tastes. I've been having a loop going of a walkthrough, while I'm doing other stuff, and I enjoy that a lot more than playing it myself. Still wasn't a waste though, I never got around to playing X-Wing Alliance and it's great.

    I just picked up the first game, seeing those mini movies they dropped on TH-cam. Once It finished downloading I'm going to start. I will prob play through both, I remember my friends dad playing this on pic long long ago, the fact that it's still even alittle relevant tells me it's worth it. Thanks for making the video and getting me excited to jump alittle further into the Star Wars universe. They need a new rpg. Thoooo

    I want to say a big thanks Matty. I had an old hard copy of Kotor 2 but it seemed to bug out on my new computer. Spending the $6 dollars on the steam version was well worth it. They run perfectly with no issues.

    This was definitely one of my top 10 RPG's of all time, but I'm not someone who can go back and play older games. At the time though, it was amazing.
