  • Join thought leader Chris Roberts in this insightful talk as he unravels the profound impact of seeking unlikely mentors in the journey of self-discovery. Roberts explores the transformative power of mentorship, shedding light on the often-overlooked individuals who can guide us toward becoming our authentic selves.
Drawing from personal experiences and professional insights, Roberts shares the dynamic life cycle of mentorships and the pivotal role they play in personal and professional growth. He emphasizes the need to look beyond traditional mentorship models, advocating for the value of learning from unexpected sources-individuals who challenge our perspectives and offer unique insights.
Throughout the talk, Roberts identifies key factors that contribute to successful mentorship relationships. From mutual respect and shared values to the importance of diversity in mentorship circles, he paints a comprehensive picture of how these connections can shape our identity and unlock untapped potential.
Roberts delves into the reciprocity of mentorship, highlighting how both mentor and mentee can benefit from the exchange of knowledge and experiences. By encouraging the audience to be open to guidance from unexpected quarters, he challenges preconceived notions about mentorship, illustrating how unconventional mentors can often provide the most valuable lessons. Chris was born and raised in Orange County, California, and now lives in Tacoma, Washington. He went from standing in food lines as a kid to feeding over 1,000,000 people today. He’s a full-time entrepreneur, real estate investor, and the Founder and CEO of Sterling Rhino Capital. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

My first mentor was my English/Drama teacher. I was 13 when I first had her and I was in her class all the way to the end of high school. I adored her because she was so weird haha and got to see this different side of her in drama class. When I started outside of school I always showed her my stuff and asked her to critique it and when I was the only one who get full marks on the creative writing task in our final exams I could seriously feel the pride radiating from her. It was such an incredible experience that I will be eternally grateful for.
