I’m surprised that you didn’t mention MV’s character artist, Shinya Sano. He was the box artist for Super Metroid, and you can kinda tell with How Jane looks like Super Metroid’s Zero Suit Samus (and also has a legally distinct Japanese Metroid 1 helmet). Also, I love how stuff like “Is rumored to be a karate expert” is ALL the context you’re gonna get. That’s like having a the only blurb on Mark Martin be “It’s rumored that he is jacked”.
Really cool that you made a video covering F-Zero’s GBA games. Too many people either skim over these or don’t acknowledge them at all. The likely reason MV’s cast is much weaker than the rest of the series is because it was the only game until 99 to not have any involvement from series artist Takaya Imamura. MV was directed by Kazunobu Shimizu (credited as Isshin Shimizu in both games), the director of the SNES title, who probably didn’t care as much for the lore and characters of F-Zero as Imamura or Miyamoto (who wasn’t involved with MV either). And on the subject of the Hot Violet sharing its color with the GBA: did you know that the colors of the four original F-Zero machines not only referenced the four signature colors of the Super Famicom, but also the colors of the ABXY buttons and how their functions reflect their individual abilities? B is your throttle, reflecting the Golden Fox’s Acceleration. Y is the brake, reflecting the Wild Goose’s high defense. A is boost, reflecting the Fire Stingray’s top speed. X is unused, reflecting the Blue Falcon being balanced with no major strengths or weaknesses. It’s an awesome detail that I always use to remember what colors the ABXY SFC colors are supposed to be.
Miss Killer taking number one spot just feels right. On another note though, yeah I'd love to see F-Zero reach a fraction of success Fire Emblem did with Awakening.
2 questions 1. How were you able to watch the F-Zero anime ? 2. Do you think F-Zero MV should still have aliens even if it does take place before the first game ?
1) Unfortunately, anime meant for kids don't have the original Japanese versions on Crunchyroll (I checked), so I had no choice but to watch on TH-cam. Since it wasn't official, I didn't use any clips of the anime. 2) They could've worked aliens into MV if it was a prequel. Kent would have to be the first to go, given the Captain Falcon theme.
Glad I came across this video! The GBA games need much more appreciation, especially Climax! (Yes I have a Ryu pfp you can tell which one I like the most)
I really like your idea of MV being a prequel instead. It would've made so much sense with the Earthling cast. The story could've been interesting too if it took place during the "F-MAX" Grand Prix mentioned in The Skull's GX profile since it said it predates F-Zero by 200 years. I'll say when F-Zero really makes a comeback, I hope they keep some of the characters introduced in GP Legend. Lisa Brilliant and Ryu Suzaku became two of my favorite characters in the series. I would love to play as them in a game on the level of GX.
One video I would like to see is one covering every F-Zero machine, including npcs like the bumpers in SNES, along with the slower machines and Kims in MV
I just realized one of the reasons MV is my least favorite; all of the pilots are human. There’s not one pilot that is an alien, robot, etc. Even the original had Pico as a non-human character.
With 57 pilots in the F-Zero franchise, there are a total of 64 machines, with 3 of them (Blue Falcon GT, Red Bull, Hyper Death Anchor) sharing the same pilot as another machine, and the four machines from the Satellaview F-Zero not having any canon pilots associated with them.
Regarding Leon in the Anime, I wish that instead of what we got, he'd be one of the only orphans who was friends with Clank before Leon got adopted himself, and the episode would have been focused on Leon trying to get help from the Task Force to subdue criminals that are targetting said orphanage. This way, it'd still tie in to his X/GX persona while keeping who he is in the Anime. As for the Maximum Velocity characters, the fact they got barebones backstories means that a lot of lore expansions can be done by fans. For example, I can see Nichi having sought tutelage from Silver Neelsen (both of their machines are sliders), or Jane B. Christie being an expert gambler due to the spade symbol on both her helmet and vehicle and had tried to get some of Lord Cyber's money by playing against him in games of Poker. Overall though, the lack of alien pilots hurts this title quite a bit.
Aside from the lack of aliens or robots, the Maximum Velocity cast is diverse. Still, I don't think we'll see that cast again outside of potential animation shorts. Although we still know them more than the unknown F-Zero 2 cast.
Hello! I just wanted to pop in and say that I love your team dark (individual members and team overall) analysis! it made me incredibly happy that you got everything about them right, also, I was wondering, are you perchance planning on reviewing the characterization of Shadow from Sonic Prime? I feel like it'd be cool to see your thoughts on his writing from the show (which in my personal opinion was a lot better than most other games etc, but not 100% it), anyway, love your character analysis vids!
If we only include new GBA characters; Ms. Killer is my favorite. Helps her car is kinda beastly in F-Zero Climax. As for whom would be my favorite from Maximum Velocity; Kumiko.

11:31 I'm sorry, but as soon as you said the smart and sexy pirate thief, my mind immediately thought of risky boots from shantae.

I never thought of the OG 4's color schemes like that! That gives the SNES roster even more significance. Thanks for telling me.
7:52 Guess your Batman costume isn’t a “get out of getting nagged by the IRS free” card. Not surprised you’d commit tax evasion
If the IRS took his house, he would still be twiddling his fingers together saying "It's all according to plan."

Incredible video, im curious to know how the MV lore unfolds in future F-Zero and whether they will be more incorporated or just a 1 off thing
Miss Killer taking number one spot just feels right.

Didn't know about the handheld game characters, very interesting to learn about

Exactly. MV feels so limited with its roster.

Okay that was educational, I didn't know that they changed some of the characters names in the English version.
Top 10 Dragon Ball characters?
