Awesome video! It's great to see someone talk about F-Zero's forgotten cast. Give us more from them, Nintendo!
Kinda wish you went into the interviews more. Mighty Gazelle actually revealed he does Disaster Rescue when he isn’t racing. So would that make him a hero in your definition?
There's so much information about the characters, like Super Arrow never actually driving before entering F-Zero, Don Genie funding some of Black Shadow's operations, and Mr. EAD's machine is actually his brother! They didn't need to go into so much detail for each character but they did. I'd love to see another F-Zero even just to learn more about the characters.
1:19 I tried this challenge initially, managed to get all 5, celebrated, only to later realize I got the names wrong anyway. Oh well! Glad to see you're back, Characters In-Depth!
I think my favorite pilot in terms of being outside the machine is Leon. He's a surprisingly nice guy! But PJ just shot up for me as well. Maybe its because i just learned that what i previously thought was a mouth is actually his snout.
Goroh actually had a decent time in the Anime, he was badass and actually helped the heroes a lot but doing it for his benefit as well but he would help with honor. But he also trolled quite a bit and it was hilarious. Goroh was my favorite during the anime besides Ryo and Haruka. The anime was badass and amazing and even though its ending was sad it was really good.
I don't want to be this guy, but I almost knew all the names from the game, even most of the Cars names. My brother and I played this game to no end, doing everything on Extreme took so much of our time, but there were very few games that felt so rewarding beating the Extreme difficulty. Mission 7, the Grand Prix, took calculating and perfect driving to even think about winning. Kill Black Shadow right at the start of the race, because he started one position behind you. Take out Blood Falcon next, because he will hug the first place for the whole race. Boosting perfectly, and taking every turn for 5 full laps and you MIGHT win. Or Mission 5, saving Jody....holy crap man. You get like 45 Seconds. One teeny tiny mistake, and you restart. And you have to boost 24/7, so driving as fast as possible for the Blue Falcon, while dodging doors in a tunnel and flying through gaps that barely have enough space to fit through. You also had to take every boosting arrows, or you couldn't make it because your own boosting was not enough. F-Zero is such a good franchise, a shame that Nintendo buried it because of the bad sells.
Two series I love as well. Both are very similar to each other. If they had a crossover together, it would have been more than perfect: It would have been perfectly amazing!
Let's go! Numerically! 0. Deathborn 1. Mighty Gazelle 2. Jody Summer 3. Dr. Stewart (My doctor's name is coincidentally also Robert Stewart.) 4. Baba 5. SG 6. Pico 7. CF 8. Octoman 9. Mr. EAD 10. Princia Ramode 37. Lily Flyer 38. PJ 39. QQQ 40. Phoenix And that's just GX.
I appreciate that you gave attention to the lore side of F-Zero, as it is really one of the BIG unique aspects of the series that makes it great. I mean, we even got our own anime--is that not proof F-Zero is more than just a racing game?
Personally, I don't feel that the anime or GP/Climax is to blame for F-Zero's lack of modern life. I'm pretty confident that F-Zero GX not yielding great success is the more likely source. But I'm just taking guesses here.
I started get deep in the f-zero franchise thanks to X on the switch I’ve also purchased the original cartridge for the n64 and GX This games deserve so much love damn they’re just AWESOME
Hey, I paused the video at 1:23 and was able to name seven: Jodi Summer, Dr. Stewart, Lisa Alen, Black Bull, Blood Falcon, and James McCloud. I could probably name more but I have a headache right now. I read quite a few bios in F-Zero GX, man we really need another one of those. Great video so far.
that part with silver neilson and you wanting to keep at it a being a voice actor got to me, been streaming for a year now but its something i want to do as a full time thing so the video at that part really gave me some motivation to keep streaming up
Baba needs to remain untouched if they ever make a new game. He's fabulous the way he is. And Dai, San and Gen deserve to return too. Seriously, if the problem is their voices, just have them played differently. They could even still have accents with a more PC portrayal, as long as no one tries to play the "accents in general are racist somehow" card that too many people like to play now.
Sadly in the suffocating pc world, any attempt of an accent will be misconstrued as such.. hell i don't get what is so "racist" about Dai san gen's voices.
What a fantastic video! Even though I discovered the video now, it's a great way of introducing everyone quickly to all the characters F-zero has to offer. But I have to be that guy and say that I would have liked that you mentioned two important facts that were censored! These are in the japanese version, which is still dubbed in english (no jp dub), where in the interviews, Digiboy says that he doesn't believe in god (upon asked, "Who believes in such illusions?"), and that Baba dresses in drag, which is pretty cool if you ask me. Still, I must say again that thanks for the effort!
1:21 Easy. Super Arrow, Mrs. Arrow, Phoenix, PJ, Princia Ramode, Dr. Stewart, Pico, Black Shadow, Deathborn, Michael Chain, Silver Neelson, DaiSanGen, Dai Goro, Jody Summers and Blood Falcon
1:20 Honestly it took me a moment to think about five characters besides Samurai Goroh and Captain Falcon. Dr. Stewart, Pico, Judy Summer, Black Shadow, and Blood Falcon. The thing is unless you bothered to look at the trophies in Melee, Brawl, or Ultimate you likely wouldn't know about them let alone the game itself.
There’s some interesting tidbits about the machines. Like Draq and Roger’s machines. Not only did they wind up unclaimed, apparently they were built by a racing team that completely and mysteriously vanished after something called The Great Accident
I grew up playing f zero x and never played/ heard of f zero gx till a few years ago and always assumed the anime which I watched when I was little was the official lore story line and just imagined it when I played fzero x. Now I gotta play Gx to experience the campaign and those crazy tracks
That's why F-Zero are so specials compared to others futuristic games, there's a complete lore and universe in it, about pilots, and also about their machines, like Black Shadow's Black Bull being an old desamorced missile, Zoda's Death Anchor too, but he doesn't know that it's not desamorced and so his machine litteraly is a bomb being able to explode at any moment on the race Fire Stingray, Green Panther and Silver Rat are all the catch from an old thief when Goroh and Guster were still in good terms, but after Goroh's betrayal, Guster stole the Green Panther as a revanche, Silver Rat is also a prototype machine, it explains why it's overall weaker than any other machine except in boost power Others examples of lore according machine is Leon's Space Angler being pretty weak due to the lack of good quality stuff to build it after the war on his planet, on the contrary of Don Genie's Fat Shark being an absolute monster due to the amount of money spent into it, it's even said that Fat Shark's engine is litteraly made of pure gold And there's so much more lore ! That's why F-Zero is the best racing game franchise ever made !
So, for that first question at the start. 1. Zoda 2. Super Arrow 3. Ms. Arrow 4. James McCloud 5. Phoenix 6. Blood Falcon 7. The Skull As much as I love F-Zero Nintendo scares me with their responses to F-Zero between “We don’t know what to do with it.” And “Mario Kart already exists.” I’m horrified thinking of what Nintendo would do to the series. The last game Nintendo developed for F-Zero was X which was amazing but that was older Nintendo. I’m just afraid Nintendo will try to gimmick the game up with stupid mechanics and stuff nobody wants. Like the Mario sports games that had to have stupid gimmicks like making fighting game mechanics in tennis and racing in Mario golf.
We're more-or-less past the motion control/touch screen craze. If there's a new F-Zero, it should be buttons. There could be an option for motion controls just for the fun of it.
Nintendo: We can’t make a new F-Zero game until we can come up with a new gimmick for it. Also Nintendo: Gives us a sequel to mediocre launch title for the Switch that not a lot of people remember or liked.
@@misterniceguy429 Starfox zero's controls is not as bad as everyone says. You can use the minus button to put the cockpit view to the Tv screen and back again. Plus it made sense shooters with motion controls were a trend. Splatoon, Prime 3, and Resident Evil 4. Not the case with racing games.
It's such a crime that Falcon is the only character that's in Smash, like cmon not even Dr. Stewart? So many of them are interesting! Favorite character for me is a tough one, I like a lot of em. I can't decide between several of them, like Dr. Stewart, Mighty Gazelle, Ms. Arrow, Jody, or Gomar & Shioh. Favorite craft in the 3D games though is the Fire Stringray, that thing cruises! Also I'm GX I think it's the only one when a moving tail rudder.
Hell, I'd see one as a newcomer who won the minor leagues before F-Zero but starts badly as hours after making the victory party, gets its machine broken down, beyond repair, where you begin with an E-Rank vehicle. You'd go through missions, getting money for vehicle parts and pilot clothes, hair and skin (if you want to make it human or from another planet) and having an alignment system, depending on who you choose as allies and rivals/enemies, as your goal is to become a F-Zero legend, vying to eventually get the attention of Captain F himself.
I wished you would go to do the anime as well, because I love on of the characters there. However you did a great job spotlighting other pilots in the franchise, because having Captain Falcon as the ONLY representitive in Smash Bros. is downright criminal.
Basically any of the characters shown in this vid could've been in a Smash game. Dr. Stewart or Dr. Clash could be a pretty funny addition. Or maybe give Super Arrow a chance to shine? Or hell, put Jody Summer in the game, she's a federation pilot! She could be best buds with Samus.
I think Bolson from Zelda: Breath of the Wild might have been somewhat inspired by Baba. Both characters are flamboyant and wear some form of tiger print
@@denimchicken104 they are for sure, but it's interesting how both characters have such strikingly similar costume designs. It's unfortunate they're both so stereotypical, but the similarities are still too plenty to just ignore, and with the F-Zero franchise having been in limbo for so long, it wouldn't be too shocking to find out they've been recycling some of those old character concepts.
The tiger print is because Bolson is inspired on Ocarina of Time's Master Carpenter, which wore tiger print pants and his wife had a tiger kitten as pet, not because of Baba.
very outstanding video!! youve honestly piqued my interest for this neat game. from what i saw i'd say my favorites are: Spade (i REALLY like their design) Super Arrow & Mrs. Arrow (theyre too cute.) Mighty Gazelle (i think hes cute too!!) Deathborne (hes SO funny yet still has a menacing streak to him) maybe Blood Falcon too (i have a strange obession with pathetic evil clones LOL) with that said, maybe i should give GX a try.. looks fun as hell
12:22 Shoutout to Iwata who created both the Star Fox and F-Zero series. He’s also the very reason why Fox and Falcon (Captain Falcon, not Falco Lombardi) are connected to each other.
You're like name Pilots that aren't Captain Falcon or Samurai Goro and I'm about to yakko's world the entire cast over here. Now mind you that I don't currently have a rhyming guide with me but it would go something like this Mr EAD, Octoman, Digi-Boy, Dai Sen Gen, Baba, Gomar & Shioh. Spade, Roger Guster, Draq, Antonio Guster, Zoda, Pico, Princia Ramode
Dr. Stewart, James McCloud, Blood Falcon, Jody Summer, John Tanaka, Leon, Black Shadow. ( a bit more, but maybe on the safer side, if somebody thinks Blood Falcon and Black Shadow is too ez.)
Really struck me how new this list was when you used that pic of the Garage 56 NASCAR entry at Le Mans at 10:54, LOL. And fuck, this vids inspired me to try and do some fan-art; I've only ever played F-Zero GX, but I'm still annoyed that Nintendo's done next to nothing with the franchise since then because it was so fun and the characters had so much potential.
Octoman is portrayed as a villain in the anime storyline, which I always thought was oddly mature seeing as his profile shows him fighting for his own planet and everything
If you don't mind, I'd like to go over the 10 Maximum Velocity pilots. 1: Megan - Literally the only thing we know is that she's a black belt in Karate. Megan pilots the Hot Violet, a machine she claims was gifted to her by a fan. 2: Mickey Marcus - A hotshot pilot and a rockstar. Honestly, Maximum Velocity was kinda weak in the lore department. We don't really get much lore on his machine, the Fireball, either. 3: Jane B. Crystie - She's a fashion model and a fan of vintage cars. She actually designed her own machine, the J. B. Crystal. 4: Nichi - A Native American who carries the nickname "The Sweep Man". His machine is the Wind Walker, also controversially called the Crazy Horse in Japan, and it's heavily inspired by traditional Native American artwork. 5: Lord Cyber - A rich nobleman with a love of technology and vintage cars. His machine, the Sly Joker (Dirty Joker in Japan) is heavily inspired by Caterham roadsters and has the best boosted speed retention in the entire series by far, as well as one of the most powerful boosts in general, although the boost itself is short-lived. 6: Alexander O'Neill - A retired professional football player who switched gears and began racing in F-Zero. His machine, The Stingray, is a highly streamlined machine with a high top speed and a unique vectored thrust system for steering. Vectored thrust itself is rare in F-Zero, only seen elsewhere on the Wild Goose and Green Amazone, but The Stingray's system is particularly unique in that it uses a secondary thruster system for steering, rather than the primary engines. 7: Kent Akechi - This guy is Captain Falcon. Well, no. He's actually Captain Falcon's son, or so he claims. And he comes complete with his own (superior) version of the Blue Falcon, the Falcon MKII which resembles a combination of the Blue Falcon itself and an A-10 Warthog with its massive, outboard turbofan engines, boasting superior speed and boost capabilities at the cost of some body strength (if it were given X-style letter stats they'd be CBB, vs the Blue Falcon's BCB). 8: Blitz Wagner - Dr. Stewart's protégé. Not much else given. His machine, the Silver Thunder, is a much sturdier version of Dr. Stewart's second machine, the Luna Bomber. 9: Kumiko - Pilot of the Fighting Comet and another one of Dr. Stewart's students. Her machine is all about boosting, in boost speed, duration and retention at the expense of durability and unboosted top speed, like the SNES Golden Fox on steroids. However, the Fighting Comet is the exact opposite of the Golden Fox in terms of handling, having lots of grip but a bad turn rate. 10: Professor Yazoo Jr. - He's the son of Professor Yazoo and the designer of the BEST MACHINE IN F-ZERO MAXIMUM VELOCITY, the Jet Vermilion. The Jet Vermilion's handling is best described as "poor but compliant", with good balance and a slow but tolerable turn rate. It also has the most powerful boost in the entire franchise, a VERY sturdy body, and a high unboosted top speed to boot with great boost retention coupled with an average boost duration.
Beside's Captain Falcon and Goroh? Just off the top of my head... - James McCloud (My main Driver for my Customs) - Blood Falcon - Black Bull (Edit: Black Shadow) - Dr. Stewart - Bio Rex - Beast Man - Super Arrow - Ms. Arrow - Phoenix - Octoman (Edit) HOW DID I FORGET PICO?! DX I feel so ashamed of myself.

I always thought F-Zero had a ton of fun and quirky characters that needed more spotlight, but never got to shine due to the severe lack of F-Zero games. These character have a lot of potential. Give us more from them, Nintendo!
Kinda wish you went into the interviews more.
Mighty Gazelle actually revealed he does Disaster Rescue when he isn’t racing. So would that make him a hero in your definition?
Oof, that does count him as one. F-Zero always has a ton going on.
You were close. Besides, Captain Arrow has a ring to it.
@@charactersin-depth3472 There's an upcoming game called Aero GPX that can match F-zero GX.
I think my favorite pilot in terms of being outside the machine is Leon. He's a surprisingly nice guy!
But PJ just shot up for me as well. Maybe its because i just learned that what i previously thought was a mouth is actually his snout.
Mine is Silver Neelsen
Didn't even watch it yet but thank for covering one of my favorite racing games and series of all the time.
Hope it comes back soon.
@@charactersin-depth3472 Have been hoping for years. The fans and games inspired by F-zero still pop up. Great videos too dude!
@@277Shadow Oh, thanks. 🥹
@@charactersin-depth3472Nintendo doesnt care
You know what they should do.
A comic for every character, where they show up a bit of lore to these magnificent people.
Or an OVA for every character
Goroh actually had a decent time in the Anime, he was badass and actually helped the heroes a lot but doing it for his benefit as well but he would help with honor. But he also trolled quite a bit and it was hilarious. Goroh was my favorite during the anime besides Ryo and Haruka. The anime was badass and amazing and even though its ending was sad it was really good.
It was so amazing that it got literally every character wrong :V
You play Art of Fighting?
I bet you're stoked now that it's back and dominating the online discord. Definitely didn't see that coming.
Oh, I’m stoked.
StarFox and FZero. Two game series I love that get no respect

I appreciate that you gave attention to the lore side of F-Zero, as it is really one of the BIG unique aspects of the series that makes it great. I mean, we even got our own anime--is that not proof F-Zero is more than just a racing game?
I... wouldn't consider the anime to be a _good_ thing in this case. It and GPL basically killed the franchise until very recently.
Personally, I don't feel that the anime or GP/Climax is to blame for F-Zero's lack of modern life. I'm pretty confident that F-Zero GX not yielding great success is the more likely source. But I'm just taking guesses here.
I started get deep in the f-zero franchise thanks to X on the switch
I’ve also purchased the original cartridge for the n64 and GX
This games deserve so much love damn they’re just AWESOME
My favorites have got to be Spade, Phoenix, and Silver Neelson. Phoenix has the best character theme.
I support your F-Zero support.
Nintendo doesn't care about us, just to let you know
Hey, I paused the video at 1:23 and was able to name seven: Jodi Summer, Dr. Stewart, Lisa Alen, Black Bull, Blood Falcon, and James McCloud. I could probably name more but I have a headache right now. I read quite a few bios in F-Zero GX, man we really need another one of those. Great video so far.
Crap I mean six, I told you I had a headache.
To this day F-Zero is one my favorite games on the GameCube still can’t beat very hard😂
F-Zero 99 is a step in the right direction for the series. It truly needs to define itself compared to modern day Mario kart
I’m so addicted to this game! F-Zero would do so well nowadays especially given the amount of players I’ve seen playing 99
@@skateorpie I mean, you do all realize a new game would be exactly nothing like F-Zero 99, right?
Blood Falcon's Hell Hawk logo is pretty sick btw.
that part with silver neilson and you wanting to keep at it a being a voice actor got to me, been streaming for a year now but its something i want to do as a full time thing so the video at that part really gave me some motivation to keep streaming up
Keep doing what you love.
Damn am I missing out. Captain Falcon is so well known for being in Smash Bros and his “Falcon PUNCH” meme.
This series NEEDS a comeback.
F-Zero’s lore is why I think F-Zero stands out from other racing games to me.
Other racing games wish they had story and music like this
Masterful video on literally my favorite game, and franchises ever!!! Thank you so much for this!!
Thank you so much! 😊Anything to spread the F-Zero love.
1:19 off the top of my head dr stewart, pico, jody summers, octoman, and james mccloud
Thank you! 🥲
THANK YOU FOR PUTTING SILVER ON TOP OF YOUR LIST! THAT MEANS THE WORLD TO ME!
25:20 I'm not sure whether life is short or not, but his machine, Night Thunder, is great
It is. Enjoy every day as much as you can!
1:21
Easy.
You're in for an extreme ride. GX means business, and it's so rewarding. I'm trying to unlock the AX racers. Got 2 so far.
No idea how GX managed to get by you, but you’re in for a treat.
I feel like the world is ready for the campy goofiness of F-Zero again. I hear GX is getting a remaster for Switch that will drop in 2024. Hell yeah!
F-Zero99 was to gauge reception and it knocked it out of the park. We need this remaster 🥲
@@skateorpie I keep seeing people say that and there's, like, no proof of it.
That's why F-Zero are so specials compared to others futuristic games, there's a complete lore and universe in it, about pilots, and also about their machines, like Black Shadow's Black Bull being an old desamorced missile, Zoda's Death Anchor too, but he doesn't know that it's not desamorced and so his machine litteraly is a bomb being able to explode at any moment on the race
Fire Stingray, Green Panther and Silver Rat are all the catch from an old thief when Goroh and Guster were still in good terms, but after Goroh's betrayal, Guster stole the Green Panther as a revanche, Silver Rat is also a prototype machine, it explains why it's overall weaker than any other machine except in boost power
Others examples of lore according machine is Leon's Space Angler being pretty weak due to the lack of good quality stuff to build it after the war on his planet, on the contrary of Don Genie's Fat Shark being an absolute monster due to the amount of money spent into it, it's even said that Fat Shark's engine is litteraly made of pure gold
And there's so much more lore ! That's why F-Zero is the best racing game franchise ever made !
I’ve always wanted to play one of the console f zero but my favorites are samurai goroh, PJ, blood Falcon and captain Falcon
If you have a Switch, you can check the SNES classic and X out.
So, for that first question at the start.
1. Zoda
2. Super Arrow
3. Ms. Arrow
4. James McCloud
5. Phoenix
6. Blood Falcon
7. The Skull
As much as I love F-Zero Nintendo scares me with their responses to F-Zero between “We don’t know what to do with it.” And “Mario Kart already exists.” I’m horrified thinking of what Nintendo would do to the series.
Yo I want F-Zero to comeback. F-Zero GX is my favorite game of all time.
And then F-Zero 99 came out. & it's absolutely fun as hell
Fun fact about Spade: He's actually the ball in his torso, the rest of him is just a projection
More like a puppet of sorts, given how he can physically interact with stuff.
That Pico dub was *On-POINT*
Man i miss this series...loved GX
Then FZERO 99 came out only using 4 of the og pilots but thats okay cause DR. STEWART IS HIGH TIER FOR ONCE BABYYYYY
Hope they add the 4 cars and tracks from the BS games. I love 99, but 4 cars is too little after playing the GBA games for years xD
Nintendo: We can’t make a new F-Zero game until we can come up with a new gimmick for it.
Also Nintendo: Gives us a sequel to mediocre launch title for the Switch that not a lot of people remember or liked.
😆
@@charactersin-depth3472
Seriously, who asked for a sequel to 1-2 Switch?
@@misterniceguy429 Games like 1-2 Switch was made with gimmicks in minds. Gimmicks are not likely to work with F-zero.
@@orangeslash1667
Motion controls didn’t work out so well for Star Fox and yet Nintendo still went with that gimmick for Star Fox Zero.
1:44 does the "G" make it sound cooler 😂
To the max!
1:43 The GX makes it sound even cooler.
Sega really went all out with the GX soundtrack. Every character has a unique theme
Do you want to see a Open World F Zero game Starring Captain Falcon?
Holy crap, I can see that.
@@charactersin-depth3472 Right
Hell, I'd see one as a newcomer who won the minor leagues before F-Zero but starts badly as hours after making the victory party, gets its machine broken down, beyond repair, where you begin with an E-Rank vehicle.
@@EnvyDSin I'd so play that.
I wished you would go to do the anime as well, because I love on of the characters there.
However you did a great job spotlighting other pilots in the franchise, because having Captain Falcon as the ONLY representitive in Smash Bros. is downright criminal.
Who else could represent in Smash? Black Shadow has potential. Pico, I would love.
@@charactersin-depth3472 Well just make Samurai Goroh also a playable character.
Hell at this point I'll get ANY F-Zero character that is good by me.
You’re looking too much into it lol. They’re just flamboyant gay stereotypes.
This was an excellent video and has great editing and commentary. I hope you get more views soon!
very outstanding video!!
youve honestly piqued my interest for this neat game.
from what i saw i'd say my favorites are:
Spade (i REALLY like their design)
Super Arrow & Mrs. Arrow (theyre too cute.)
Mighty Gazelle (i think hes cute too!!)
Deathborne (hes SO funny yet still has a menacing streak to him)
maybe Blood Falcon too (i have a strange obession with pathetic evil clones LOL)
with that said, maybe i should give GX a try.. looks fun as hell
Hard as hell too, but worth it.
12:22 Shoutout to Iwata who created both the Star Fox and F-Zero series. He’s also the very reason why Fox and Falcon (Captain Falcon, not Falco Lombardi) are connected to each other.
I really hope 99 succeeds so that Nintendo will be enticed to make a new F-Zero game
I always thought the princess character was a reference to Night into Dreams
F-Zero really has a nice cast of characters, also recently I watched the movie Redline and I can see the inspiration
You're like name Pilots that aren't Captain Falcon or Samurai Goro and I'm about to yakko's world the entire cast over here.
Now mind you that I don't currently have a rhyming guide with me but it would go something like this
Mr EAD, Octoman, Digi-Boy, Dai Sen Gen, Baba, Gomar & Shioh. Spade, Roger Guster, Draq, Antonio Guster, Zoda, Pico, Princia Ramode
How does this not have at least 1k likes? This is a great vid. The one who wants to get his plnet out of poverty is probably my favorite tho.
I played GX just so I can unlock PJ, I love him so much

I AM THE WORLD'S NUMBER ONE MR. EAD FAN GRAAAAAAAHHHHH
- James McCloud (My main Driver for my Customs)
- Blood Falcon
- Black Bull (Edit: Black Shadow)
- Dr. Stewart
- Bio Rex
- Beast Man
- Super Arrow
- Ms. Arrow
- Phoenix
- Octoman
