    Pro tip check ring gap in cylimder firts by running the ring threw the cylinder with a feeler gauge to make sure gap is within factory spec

    Wouldn’t mind seeing a video on how to drain/fill antifreeze from the engine before and after rebuild 🤔👍

    Dont forget when installing those circlips that the notch HAS to be at 12 or 6 position due to the inertia of the up and down stroke. Could pop out if not and result in catastrophic engine failure and damage.

      circlips makes no difference on location. They have to be totally seated.

    If you rotate the head to get the piston in is there a chance you are moving the piston ring to cancel the hole opening on the piston?

    "PIP Mark" for the top of the ring. It is usually a dot. Make SURE that the spiral circlip is all the way seated. Oh so the second cylinder has to be done properly?😂 The 1st one doesn't matter.

    Is It easier to rebuild the top end with the motor still in the sled? I’ve got a 2003 Firecat 500 and I’m trying to decide whether to pull the motor or not for top end rebuild

    • @danofalltrades3567
      @danofalltrades3567  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s very possible in the sled and less wrenching.

    I have a 2009 arctic cat m6, what all should I replace when I rebuild the top end?

    • @danofalltrades3567
      @danofalltrades3567  ปีที่แล้ว

      Top end usually consists of piston, rings, circlips, pin and bearing.

    I just brought home a free barn find, (basement find actually) the tag looks like it says 1999 but doesn't really look like a 99. It's a Jag 440 Deluxe and the engine is seized. Gonna try dumping some oil in the heads. What could the reasons be why it's seized? Moisture in the basement or? What does AFS on the hood mean?

    • @garr421
      @garr421 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Could be from sitting or could have seized while riding. Could be why it was parked. Moisture could have gotten in if carbs were never drained or plugged. If the spark plugs were out, for sure moisture got in.

      Did the top end ever run hot? Wrist pin could be frozen in the piston?

    • @Afflicted-vh9ox
      @Afflicted-vh9ox 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danofalltrades3567 Yeah I figured it out. I was being too careful about it.. I just heated the piston up with a torch and the wrist pin area then tapped it out with a socket extension with electric tape as kind of protection... anyway Piston changed old sled fired right up... adjusting the piston rings so the cylinder block would fit was a tough with out special tool or w/e haha just used a flat head and my fingers 🤣

    You are advising people to use petroleum jelly on rubber O-rings! I suggest you do a little bit of research about that. You will find that it eats away at the rubber. Viewers, this is why you should thoroughly review the repair manual for your machine first and foremost before searching TH-cam because TH-camrs are not necessarily experienced mechanics

      This is coming from a guy that has 1 subscriber and no videos. No one made you watch my video. By all means if you have a better technique, make a video and show people. Instead of beating someone down who is trying to help! (Btw this machine is still running.)
