I lost my heat exchanger on my Exciter 570 yesterday. The connection for the thermostat got unplugged so I never new it was running hot. Then all of a sudden she just died and knocked her way to a stop. It was seized but freed up real easy. Now I have it all torn apart and I'm waiting on new pistons and a hone. I understand your brothers pain. He ran his without oil, I ran mine without coolant.
Looking good. I like to install the piston ring into the cylinder right away (as a test) to check the ring end gap, it tells me if the bore is too far worn or ok.
You can make a wrist pin puller take a peace of threaded rod with a bolt head and take a washer on one end and a nut on the other end and put the rod in one end with the washers with a bigger socket and put the nut on the other side and tighten until the wrist pin comes out the other side into the socket.
Nice job! but after the gouging i saw in this video you should have takin the whole engine apart, there will be all kinds of metal down in the crank. You spent a few dollars on new parts and this is one way to buy those parts and many more all over again. Always Clean everything before installing new engine components. looking forward to part 3 of 3.
Are you guys checking to see if the ring is going to seal correctly? Just a question I’m not a certified mechanic but enjoy doing my own work sometimes.
I have to tell ya good luck. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. After watching the first video and saying "Hello.... put the plug wires back on" then wondering if I just heard a query about the brakes not working when the sled was going to be towed all I can say is good luck guys. It's nice to see you tackling the job yourself instead of paying somebody to screw up your sled again but man....Good luck...Lol. Any new videos of the sled after the break in phase?
Berry McKockener He obviously wasn't thinking straight there when he was talking about the brakes. Must have took a second before he thought it through. The rebuild turned out great and the sled is running great. I didn't get a lot of riding in last season but if you want to see a video of the sled at the end of last season, check this one out. th-cam.com/video/kQYBnodLpas/w-d-xo.html It has other stuff in there too. Thanks for watching.
Hey thanks for the link. Nice to see ya'll got it done. Also nice to see your kids on their mini doos. I watched some of your old vids and you seem like an good guy. I used to work in Fairport and would keep an apt in Rochester so I didn't have to commute almost 2 hours every day. I'm a bit southeast of Syracuse. I also drive a Harley, a Road King and survive winter by snowmobiling. Keep the good vids coming.
Thanks man. Nice bike. We're getting some snow now. Not sure if it will amount to anything but the season is young. I hope to get some good riding videos in this season.
Do you have a video on the first rebuild .. I bought a 03 Rev with a 800. Rode it 3 times and it blew up . Tore it down and the clutch side Piston circlip was gone motor ate it ... Trying to figure out why lol
@@Paisteboy alright thanks, and since its liquid cooled i should drain some of the coolant before removing the head amd cylindre right? Sorry for all the questions im pretty new at snowmobile and i am looking at rebuilding my 583
@@antonimallet225 Yes. draining the coolant is a good idea even though we may have not done it. I would drain the coolant if I had to do it again. We you go to refill the coolant when you are done you will need to burp the system to get the air out if the coolant lines. You may need to look up a video on that since i don't have one on that topic. Good luck.
I have a 1996 mxz 440 liquid cooled ran perfect! and removed the motor .... to get to the stearing colum. .. I fixed the stearing ..... but don't know how to put my engin back in and connect everything. any one got any help for me ?! it would be much apreciated !!!
Thanks for the share. BUT wrist pins ? thats top end not bottom, bottom end rebuild would be involve doing the crank shaft,im a red seal machinist,i done enough crank jobs, lost count long ago.
ha guy is have a1997 grand tourning 500 wood like to no if you wood help me with a problem with my skidoo will start up on priming but cut out but I put my hand on one side of carburetor on #1 carburetor and no suction and I did the same thing on #2 and there lots hope you can help me thanks
Ok ...now that your sled is working, its time to race the Yamaha again for round 2 i will also bring my tow rope, toolbox qt of oil for the round... but will not help against my Yamaha . lol
You boys dont know how lucky you are that it had roller bearings on the connecting rods! Lol if it was pin bearings they would of fell into the bottom end!!!!!! Cover your case!
paisteboy put all the chances on your side, why put stress on your bearings and rods. Yes your engine may be okay for years like that, but why would you take the chance.

I just noticed from one of your recent videos that you guys live in the same town as i do...small world
lol. Cool!
I just finley got my 600 mxz going love your videos bro
Cool and Thank You. Spread the word.
Good luck mates that bottom end scares me though
And that is why you have oil directly in the gas tank!;)
Good point. This could never happen with pre-mix. Thanks for watching.
Shavings from the scored cylinder could go down into the crankshaft good thing to check the crankcase bearings to have a good one.
Thanks for the tip and for watching.
That's good looking forward to it
Nevermind I kept watching and figured it out

You may have a point, but he rode it for two seasons since this rebuild and has had no issues.
thanks again for getting back to me,
Are you guys checking to see if the ring is going to seal correctly? Just a question I’m not a certified mechanic but enjoy doing my own work sometimes.
Not really. We're just putting it in the correct position and then installed the cylinders.
same place I bought my 670ho pistons. great prices and great shipping 👍
Thanks guys....excellent video. one question I have is ...are the bearings caged?
Yes. I believe they are caged bearings. It was so long ago now but I'm pretty sure they were.

Great vid paiste
Thanks. I'll be uploading Part 2 soon.
Sweet can't wait
Paisteboy, by chance, do you have or know about any videos of a bottom end tear down and rebuild on this same machine?
Thanks
Sorry no. When my brothers bottom end went he had it rebuilt by a friend who is a mechanic.
I can see the top end seems like a fairly simple rebuild, is the bottom end that difficult of a task?
AM29 top ends are always easiers
..the bottoms are a different story..you half to be very precise and having the right tools is a must
Looking forward to part 2.
When we took the top end off to get to the pistons we didn’t drain the coolant. Now it’s it he bottom end how do we go about getting it all out?
We shop vac'd it out.
I have a 2002 mxz 700 skidoo when I crank it over it sprayed gas out of the left cylinder what you think is the problem?
+George Tyler
Bad gasket or worse a warped head or cracked cylinder.
+George Tyler
Could be loose bolts too but not likely.
+paisteboy you don't think maybe a carburetor rebuild might help. ...?
+George Tyler
if it is spraying from the carb then something else is going on and maybe a rebuild is needed.
Where did you buy the kit from?
Do you have a video on the first rebuild .. I bought a 03 Rev with a 800. Rode it 3 times and it blew up . Tore it down and the clutch side Piston circlip was gone motor ate it ... Trying to figure out why lol
Yes. The first rebuild is in there.
th-cam.com/video/SNERnydb5Gw/w-d-xo.html
it's spraying a mist of fuel out of the left spark plug hole with the plugs out when I crank it over?
+George Tyler
That seams strange. I'm not a mechanic and I've never had an issue like that.
+George Tyler yup thats normal.. especially after you have gas in it.. all mine do that.
good video man I will be doing mine soon.
Good luck with your rebuild.
@@Paisteboy did you get it rebuilt yet?
@@farmingfishingfamilyontari2814
lol.
How much did all the kits cost you all together ?
love the new camera
Thanks. I'm really happy with the camera too. It's all HD from here on out!
Dude metal flew all over in that crank holy shit its chiped everwerw .i would have rebuilt carbs for sure.
is there oil in the engine when you remove the head and cylinder?
No, because it's a 2 stroke engine which burns the oil as the engine runs. It is oil injected.

Isn't there a low oil light? Thought most oil injection sleds had dummy lights.
I think they do. He must have missed it.
Paisteboy the oil light usually goes on at like 3/8 of oil that’s a lot of time still
Thanks for the video
You're welcome. Thanks for watching.
Does your brother still have this sled?
Yes, he does still have this sled.
Damn that sleds had a hard life eh! New camera?
Yeah to both. I got the Sony HDR-PJ790V. I like it a lot. I'll be making a video of it soon. Thanks for watching.

Sip is why we just put in r 700 triple :)
+Hi.
Cool. Are the SPI pistons expensive?
Oops! Hope he learnt his lesson, lol.
I hope he learned his lesson too. He was asked a couple times if he needed oil while on the trip, but insisted that he had enough and didn't check.
Thanks for the share.

When you do part 2 you should do a first startup. Good video very good quality.
Thanks. We do a cold start and ride in part 2.
Your brother looks like Kip Kay
LOL! Yeah he does.
I’ve never had to push out a wrist pin like that weird, ever 2 stroke I’ve rebuild just slides right out
We had to do this on both rebuilds of this motor. Maybe too much carbon build-up?
Eric Albertson the thing had no oil so that means no lube so they freeze together so it hard to take out don’t ask how ik

Wow that cylinder is no good wrong tool. .lol

And what not why
Why are you sniffing so much?
Dan J I’m in love with the coco 👃🤣
Spi sorry not sip
this video show how to NOT change piston's, please do not take this video example because you will damage your engine !!!!
It's has been working perfectly for three seasons. So much for your negative comment.
8 miles a year
Do you actually think that's how it's done?
Buy the proper tools, you just beat your rods to save few bucks.
Everybody beat their rod. what's the big deal?
paisteboy put all the chances on your side, why put stress on your bearings and rods. Yes your engine may be okay for years like that, but why would you take the chance.

For fucks sake‘s put a rag in the engine
