- Istanbul welcomed us with its mix of ancient charm and modern energy. We stayed in the heart of Beyoğlu, just steps away from the iconic Galata Tower, which glowed beautifully against the night sky. In the evenings, we wandered Istiklal Street, a bustling avenue filled with shops, cafes, and street performers, all leading up to Taksim Square, the pulse of Istanbul. The atmosphere was lively and filled with a mix of locals and travelers, making each night feel like a celebration.
One of the highlights of our trip was a street food tour across both sides of Istanbul, experiencing the unique flavors of Europe and Asia. From savory simit and rich Turkish coffee to fresh seafood in Kadiköy on the Asian side, each bite brought us closer to understanding the city’s unique fusion of tastes and cultures.
Of course, we couldn’t miss the historic Sultanahmet area. We marveled at the majesty of the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia, two of Istanbul’s most iconic landmarks, their domes and minarets standing tall and timeless. We also explored the Basilica Cistern, an eerie yet captivating underground palace with its ancient columns rising out of the water.
To top off the experience, we went on a Bosphorus dinner cruise. As we sailed between Europe and Asia, the views of Istanbul’s skyline were breathtaking, with the illuminated palaces and bridges creating a magical setting. It was the perfect way to wrap up our journey!
