Hey gang! Thanks for the feedback regarding the 100-day minimum on the Airbnb I mentioned. I reached out to the host and they said a new regulation forced this, BUT you can contact the host directly and they may have a work around. You can find the host's email here: stay@suhuhomes.com Hope that helps! And if you want a weekly travel tip and an update from where I am, feel free to follow my newsletter: bit.ly/TheTuesdayTravelTip
Loved Istanbul. Was scammed by a taxi driver but met many wonderful people. Would go back in a New York minute. At 79 years young if my little rescue dog dies I will be on my way.

@@TR-TH-cam-Channel It is a country with a population of 86 million and different cultures. You are right about these problems in touristic places. but the tourism lobby is in the hands of the mafia, independent of the local people
@@TR-TH-cam-Channel agree as a Turkish who arrived here from abroad, I got scammed so many times including normal folks who tell me now I am a family, or that here is free drink etc.
I feel scammed on a monthly basis in my midwestern state just living a normal routine. Thank you for all the great tips. At least when exploring interesting countries, I'm getting a unique experience in the event I do feel scammed 😄 I'm more than willing to take that chance! Off to Turkiye next month and can't wait!
Great video! Informative, yet concise, and not all about you. I star the places that I'm interested in on Google maps, and you make it easy by clearly identifying each place. Good luck with your channel. You deserve more viewers!
Your video has given me a few good tips.. definitely will try most of those and will be visiting Istanbul in 3 weeks time. I do speak Turkish but have never explored Istanbul.Would like to book a room in the one you have recommended. Thanks 🙏
Hi Camden. Lots of useful tips. Definitely will try finding a place in or around Cihangir. Regarding beverages, I know you mentioned about tea and coffee but how easy is it to have a beer after a long walk or an evening cocktail? It's a Muslim country so I don't know what the rules are regarding alcohol. Do restaurants serve beer and other alcoholic drinks ?
Well done and really helpful! I know the neighborhood to book my airing now! What are your favorite non-schengen cities and countries? I used to love to escape to Croatia until they joined. I've spent a couple months in Albania (Durres and Tirana) and especially liked Tirana. This fall I'm going to Montenegro (Podgorica) for a bit. Have a great day there!
Hmmm, great question. We also used to use Croatia hahah. I definitely love spending time in Turkey when trying to reset those schengen days. And even though it's far, we often use South Africa. Haven't made it down to Albania quite yet but have heard wonderful things!
everyone commenting about the 90 day minimum. this is only true if the host doesn't want to register the property and pay the tax. you can stay for 1 day or 1 month or anytime in-between 1 day and 90 days. anyone saying otherwise is trying to get you to pay more or get out of paying taxes.
May I know when was this? Was that during the summer? I am still planning to go there but haven't decided yet which season should I choose. Seeing your video makes me a bit shocked because there are A LOT OF PEOPLE??
All this footage was filmed in May. It's safe to say there will be a lot of people pretty much all year. But don't let that scare you off! The busy streets add to the energy of the city :)
the last winter was actually quite warm, i don’t remember a lot of rainy days and it definitely didn’t snow. so i think you can give the islands a go if the weather is not crazy. there hasn’t been any snow for the last couple of years, at least in the area that i live in (i live near the hagia sophia), so i’m assuming it will continue like this. but be careful of the winds because it can get pretty windy especially in the areas near the sea like karaköy. have fun 😊
Thanks for letting me know! I reached out to the host and they said there was some new regulation passed that limits short term stays. Although there may be some flexibility around that if you dm the host on through Airbnb. Thanks again!
It's not the best. Pretty much have to walk or take a an uber up there -- but it's a short walk from where many tourists are. Just be prepared for a for a hill haha
Hi Camden, I was checking out the Airbnb you provided a link for, and the thing is that is always has 100 night minimum stay requirement. Is that your experience with them? Can you suggest any other Airbnbs you were considering?
Thanks for reaching out! I sent a note to the host and she says there's some new regulation that is causing the 100-night stay. But they say there's some way around this and that they'll have an update soon. Sorry for the confusion!
The taxi mafia in Turkey has its own micro-economy. 😅 The worst. I'd rather walk or call an expensive VIP shuttle than get into a car with a hillbilly like that. Hopefully Uber is safe.
3:50 When I went to Istanbul I made the experience that haggling or negotiating especially at the Grand Bazaar or Egyptian Bazar is not possible. Prices are too high and if you try to haggle, they won't. Either you take it overpriced or you leave it because they know in like 2 mins another tourist will come and buy it anyways...
Hmmm, I stayed for just a month and the prices were lower. I'd recommend reaching out to the host to see if they made a mistake on Airbnb. I imagine they'll have some flexibility. Appreciate you letting me know!
It's a good option IF you plan to do most of the things it includes. I've never purchased one and I probably won't in the future. But if you're wanting to hit most of the places that it includes, I can definitely see the value. Hope that helps!
Card taps don't work. I tried twice and my money was lost. They charged me $40 but I didn't get that in my istanbulcart. I went to the customer centre and no one in the office can speak English. 😅
This was my first and last trip to Turkey. Every single day I had to battle with people over money and what was supposed to be a relaxing holiday with my wife and children turned into a constant battle. On my first visit to a restaurant, I was charged almost 4000 lire for 4 kebabs and 4 cups of juice. The people of Turkey have no integrity and the dishonest nature of the people is unmatched. I have travelled to many countries and have never experienced such dishonesty. The only honest and reliable part of Turkey was the tram system as it has no human interaction and therefore no opportunity for dishonesty. Truly shocking experience
Not sure on the specifics but the app still works. It'll be calling a taxi driver but payments are made through Uber. Found it useful when trying to avoid being overcharged
But BUS is part of their public transportation 🙄. Also not sure why you mentioned that you should avoid TAXIs and then, after 1 minute, you told us that you were using taxis (Uber) a lot.
Great tips. I really appreciate the information but I'm amused at how you say things like Cihangir. C is pronounced like J, and Ç is pronounced like Ch. Nitpick aside, good info!
Do not travel there; they decided to reduce their stray dog population by confining them to dog death camps, so-callled "shelters."
