My friend who has lived in turkey for many years is coming back to the uk as can not stay due to the slaughtering of the animals. Taking cats and dogs and killing them. Pets are not safe and she's bringing back her cats. She loved turkey with all her heart for so long, but wont be a part of what they are doing now.

I would also add the yoghurt drink, ayran. Everybody is drinking it. I got hooked on it too and drink it almost daily. Very healthy and refreshing. Btw soğuc baklava is also amazing, in my opinion it’s the best dessert in the world. I believe it’s a Turkish invention. I love everything Turkish. Stunning country, amazing culture, food, and traditions, wonderful people.
I used to think that Turkey was a Middle Eastern country 🙃 As far as I can understand, Turks are more of a mixture of Balkans, Europeans, Caucasians and Asians, while Kurds are the Middle Easterners of the country. Turkish people are an extremely warm-blooded and helpful nation. If you trip and fall while walking on the street, many people will run to help you. Unlike us, the "we" culture, not the "me" culture, is extremely strong. I love Turkey and Turks. My only dream is to move to Turkey when I retire.

I'm currently in Istanbul after a 10 day road trip around western turkey. Most of what you say is exactly spot on! The smoking was far more pronounced in northern Turkey, and not an issue I had in any place in southern Turkey. On the black sea coast, going into restaurants was a fog of nasty smoke--they didn't even have non smoking area! The coolest stuff was along the non-highway roads--amazing. I was surprised how similar people looked---the nose in particular. The food is god mode! Oh my lord. The food is the best ever, my lord. I was also surprised how similar so many words in turkish are to English! I was also surprised how expensive the food is (and how cheap hotels are). People have been very friendly so far. My trip here has been amazing, and most of what you said is exactly what I experienced as well. The best experiences though were all outside the city--wandering along country roads.
1) If you look carefully at the architecture from the Ottoman period, you can see bird nests carved into stone on the walls and cavities made in the ground for water to accumulate when it rains and for animals to drink water from there. 2) Yes, Türkiye is the country that consumes the most cigarettes in the world. There is also a saying about this in Italy: 'fumare come un turco' (to smoke like a Turk). 3) Our love for tea dates back hundreds of years to the days when we were neighbors with China. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I suggest you do some research on Turk history (Hiung-nu, Göktürks, Karakhanids and Seljuks) and other Turkish-speaking countries (Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Yakuts, Uighurs and other minority groups.) 4) the name of the toilet is alaturka. (it is not a Turkish word) 5) Our country has not had an official religion since 1923, approximately 85 percent of the population is Muslim, but most of the believers are not sensitive about religion (alcohol, prayer, tobacco, veiling, etc.) This is because we converted to Islam later and come from a very different culture (nomadic-warrior) but I can understand why people think that headscarves are compulsory in Türkiye, but it's really a ridiculous idea. Just like this, I don't even mention those who think we ride camels (I saw it once in my life in the eastern region of Turkey) and speak Arabic. Our language is Turkish, which is one of the oldest languages in its current version. When we read a monument (Orkhon inscriptions) engraved on stone in Mongolia 1500 years ago, we can easily understand it 30 percent of the time. We can understand books from 1000 years ago by 60 percent, and we can understand poems from 500 years ago by 80 percent. I think we are very lucky in this regard. 6) Since culture and history gush out from every corner of our country, this is very normal for us and we feel the need to introduce only the most magnificent ones. While walking on a street in Ankara, you may suddenly come across the ruins of a Roman bath. 7) The Turkish phenotype is not just about black hair and black eyes. If you look at the Turks in Central Asia, you will understand them more easily because they have not mixed with other peoples as much as we do. For example, my grandmother is Turkmen (the name given to nomadic Turks during the Ottoman period) and she has blonde hair, blue eyes, high cheekbones and almond eyes, and like her most of turkish Yörük's (Turks who still living like a nomad like my grandmothers family elders) are brown and blond hair. Speaking specifically about Turkey, as you mentioned, we are very different from everyone else, and the reason is obvious, our geography is in the heart of the world, and it is a region that hosted a Turkish empire (Ottoman Empire) that ruled over 2 continents. 8) What can I say? The greatest leader of the 20th century, an intellectual who wrote many books and spoke many languages, a very successful soldier, a marshal, a father, the father of the Turks. 9) Actually, we have one desert, the Karapınar desert in Konya. I don't know how big it is but I guess not much. 10) And as a Turk and someone who has traveled many places, I say again that I have only seen a camel once in my life, in the eastern region. and camels are used only in some fairs. Other than that, we have NO camels!! THANK YOU :)
Alaturka is Itallian come from alla Turca means Turkish way which is a squat toilet. Alafranka for the other type toilet means French way. Thats also Italian too. So it is weird.
I was there a week ago and i prefer squat toilet as i dont like sitting on a yucky toilet bowl. Yeah, dogs and cat were nice fat and friendly. I am so happy that i went there and my experience were fabulous. I still cant get over it until now.

I don’t know how I would be able to use a squat toilet as I wouldn’t be able to bend my knees. But it looks interesting. I like the idea of the bidet. We have this in Australia too. Turkey looks Wonderful and I’d be in heaven with the FOOD. I also love how woman can wear anything and feel they are braking any rules. Watching from Australia 🇦🇺

As a Turkish we have at least 2 cats in our apartment, the third cat is coming time to time 😂 the orange one followed the döner delivery guy and came inside of my house yesterday. My boyfriend had a hard time to protect our döners and took the cat out. The cat couldn’t steal our food. Our cats are very well fed and takan care of by neighbours. There are cat food everywhere, they are full but they choose to eat kebaps like us 😂 We don’t know who took them in our building but I want them to sleep inside in winter. The white cat is very friendly and I scratch him a few times in a week 🥰
Been living here for 2 months and love it. I drink ayran to start and chai after eating. The way they cook their chicken is amazing, as well as lamb, though I’m not a fan of every lamb (it doesn’t have that taste if it is a male baby lamb). Overall the country is beautiful and the people are very friendly. I’m looking forward to next few years working here. On the toilets I prefer the bidet toilet that allows you to stay clean; wish other countries used this.
@@bigpump9483 if you’re on the historic peninsula on west side of Golden Horn, (we stayed at a hotel there, not expensive but very nice) and walked to Topkapi, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, and Grand Bazaar. Start early to beat crowds. We left around 0700 and by 0900 crowds were starting to gather….you can also pay inexpensive tour guide to beat lines, get to front.
@@bigpump9483Make sure you take a fairy from Eminönü to Anadolu Kavağı and come back to Eminönü. If you do this trip at night you love it. You should also go to Topkapı Palace, Aigha Sophia,The Grand Bazaar!!!

Just the squat toilet, though cause I've lived in Taiwan, and in mainland China, and the Philippines as well, (I don't know about any other Asian countries.) and I can say many (if not majority of) households use squat toilets.

It is true,Mexico still behind understanding cats and dogs, just recently visited Creel Chihuahua,Mexico, there are hundreds of homeless and starving beautiful dogs roaming the streets and the citizens of that town are blind and impervious to the suffering of the animals; they don’t feed the dogs roaming the streets, no water to drink, no medical attention . Heartbreaking!

My family and I just got back to the States from Turkiye. My wife and kids were amazed by the stray pets. Not stray animals, mind you. They are "Community PETS". Dogs will literally walk right up to you wagging their tails and asking for nothing more than a quick rub on the head. Then they nudge you as if to say "thank you" and walk away wagging their tails again. Cats and Dogs are even friendly with one another, just as they would be if they lived in your home. They don't seem to know they are on the streets. They think every person is their owner. When I saw a "free" animal walking by one on a leash, in my mind, I imagined they felt sorry for the one on a leash.

I am watching this just to feel good about my country, and it did not dissapoint😊 Mexico is the same in many ways, I entered from Chiauahua,and went all the way to Guatemala on a moto. Mexican people and food was great and diverse, and hospitable. Everone always invited me to stay, it was almost a given when I arrived at a small town. I love Mexico and Mexicans.

To the people who mind boggled why people drink tea in Turkey even if it is hot. It is addiction we are the most tea consuming country per capita. Which means average Turkish drinks a lot of tea per day. They get withdrawal effects when they stop it so they just dont in summers either. Withdrawals usually consists of shaky hands,craving and head ache. No I am not kidding. It is not a huge issue but it happens.Tea isnt dangerous or addictive that much of course but moderation is important we seem to not know where to stop.

Hi, I'm not Bery, but I came back from İstanbul two weeks ago. There is a street market between the Grand Bazar and the Spice Bazar, where I've seen the locals also bying their clothes. Just start from Grand bazar and walk. There are also a lot of bazars in the individual districts that are much cheaper.
I am Australian Turkish , i love 🇹🇷 , Amazing country to visit or live. ❤ However I struggled as non smoker. Everyone smokes 🚬 next to you. It's like 90's. Rules needs to be implemented not to smoke even outdoors cafes restaurants and beaches
Stay away from the ones who form groups other ones wont even move if you dont interact with them. In city there are no groups but if you gonna go more a bit outside of city sides with less food oppurtunities they form packs(Yeah I know) those ones are an issue. But they are chill well fed and friendly in the city.
I love Turkish cuisine but I have to confess that I didn't like the texture of the chicken breast dessert 😅. Another interesting thing for me is that they use a lot of wet wipes to clean their hands in the restaurants.

There are three stages to understanding the dessert tavuk göğsü (chicken breast). When we were kids, we thought it was made from chicken because of its name. As we grew older and learned the difference between a dessert and chicken, we naturally assumed it couldn’t possibly contain chicken and that it was just a name. But the real shock comes later when you find out that it actually is made from chicken breast. How could it be? Is this delicious dessert really made from chicken? 🤯😅

Restraunts have wc that you can use to wash your hands but wet wipes given for free so we wipe it off with it after the meal especially if it is a meal that eaten with hands before washing hands or just pocket the wet wipes. The history of the chicken breast dessert is a fun one. Padishah wanted to eat some desert but there was nothing in the kitchen but chicken and some other ingredients so some genius washed the chicken many times to get rid of the taste put it into the simple desert that has little to no ingredients. But most chicken breast deserts has no chicken. You will have problem to find an authentic one.
Do you know why in turkey people drink so much tea especially in summer in hot weathers? There is an adverb in turkey as follows; Tea keeps you from overheating. Tea called as çay in turkish and çay has two means; tea and small river. Actually the adverb tells about small river but turks misunderstand it as tea for centuries 😀
Lets be honest nobody cares about it they just find excuses to fuel their çay addiction. My grandmother gets withdrawal if she doesnt drink one day. Her head starts aching af.

Smoking is a societal issue in Turkey. Most of these people start smoking in high school(despite it being illegal to sell to minors most stores do. Also some adults just hand out cigarettes to the young without second thought.) some teachers even started to say that smoking is increasing even in middle(grade 5-8) school. Teens start smoking to "fit in". I did not smoke in high school and actively denied most of my friends offering me cigarettes. It led to me being excluded from the group of smokers and thus most of my classmates. My classroom had 35 students. And I have been friends with 8 guys and spoke with 2 girls but we "non-smokers" were intentionally excluded by the smokers group self-nicknamed "Those who burn"(yanıcılar) group consisting of 1 girl and 25 guys. I graduated high school 4 years ago but I am still having trouble socializing since smokers are majority. They do not invite me to cafes I either say "pls don't smoke" or even if I say "ok you can smoke" they think I am not "manly" since I cough and get watery eyes when the wind changes direction and blasts me with smoke.
Merhaba! Your input as a young Turk about the smoking issue in Türkiye is so valuable and eye-opening! I never thought it could even reach that degree of excluding non-smokers from a group and from hanging out too, and I see even more pressure to fit in that many start smoking even if they didn’t really desire it at first. I hope this smoking situation specially among very young generations is more regulated and taken care of, it seems to be getting out of control and I’m also shocked when I see maybe 14yo or younger already smoking, I live near a high school and when I’m out while they are leaving their school premises I see most of them walking with a cigarette in their hands 🥺 And never get discouraged if someone thinks that you’re not ‘manly’ enough just because you don’t smoke or you feel bad when getting the second-hand smoke, those things really happen and also second-hand smoke triggers many other health issues like asthma and many (this happened to me 3 years ago and now I’m dealing with it still), I’m very sensitive towards second hand smoke and it immediately triggers cough attacks, and a wizzing noise when breathing, sometimes I even have to use my inhalator, my husband who’s a Turk is a non-smoker also and has never smoked in his life despite all his family and relatives being hardcore smokers. We are a minority in a country where smoking is already a big part of their culture and society, but don’t get discouraged, be proud of it, at some point you’ll find more friends who have your same lifestyle. 🫶❤️
They were probably uncomfortable about making you uncomfortable, at least that's how i feel around non-smokers. When i know they dont like the smell or the smoke or in general they don't like anything to do with it, i refrain from going out much. Not to exclude but don't want to make people uncomfortable also be comfortable myself. And smoking doesn't make anyone manly dude, I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
Well, if you can avoid the smoke you'll outlive them all. Most will have a horrible death from lung cancer & various other cancers. Also it's a sure way for a woman to lower the IQ of her unborn baby. It's a huge burden to the health care system, that's why it's been basically banned in most countries that have 'free health care" such as Canada, the Nordic countries etc. People can smoke but they can only do so outside and away from where other people are & in their homes.

My best advice and as someone who suffers the same, it triggers my cough attacks and must use inhalator afterwards, at restaurants or coffee shops, I always seat inside, and in public areas I try to stay away from people smoking near me.
Only thing I got shocked about is the customer service. There is no greeting or smiling unless you greet them first. I'm of Turkish descent but born and raised in Australia and there is a code of conduct whereby friendly customer service is standard. So to not be greeted with a smile is so foreign to me. Having said that this was not always the case but when it was, I just considered it plain rude.

Must go to European side, Zeytinburnu district where you can find local brand genuine leather goods shops.. Laleli district may be cheaper but you should be sure about quality.

I would also add the yoghurt drink, ayran. Everybody is drinking it. I got hooked on it too and drink it almost daily. Very healthy and refreshing. Btw soğuc baklava is also amazing, in my opinion it’s the best dessert in the world. I believe it’s a Turkish invention. I love everything Turkish. Stunning country, amazing culture, food, and traditions, wonderful people.
I used to think that Turkey was a Middle Eastern country 🙃 As far as I can understand, Turks are more of a mixture of Balkans, Europeans, Caucasians and Asians, while Kurds are the Middle Easterners of the country. Turkish people are an extremely warm-blooded and helpful nation. If you trip and fall while walking on the street, many people will run to help you. Unlike us, the "we" culture, not the "me" culture, is extremely strong. I love Turkey and Turks. My only dream is to move to Turkey when I retire.

I'm currently in Istanbul after a 10 day road trip around western turkey. Most of what you say is exactly spot on! The smoking was far more pronounced in northern Turkey, and not an issue I had in any place in southern Turkey.
On the black sea coast, going into restaurants was a fog of nasty smoke--they didn't even have non smoking area! The coolest stuff was along the non-highway roads--amazing.
I was surprised how similar people looked---the nose in particular.
The food is god mode! Oh my lord. The food is the best ever, my lord.
I was also surprised how similar so many words in turkish are to English!
I was also surprised how expensive the food is (and how cheap hotels are).
People have been very friendly so far.
My trip here has been amazing, and most of what you said is exactly what I experienced as well. The best experiences though were all outside the city--wandering along country roads.

1) If you look carefully at the architecture from the Ottoman period, you can see bird nests carved into stone on the walls and cavities made in the ground for water to accumulate when it rains and for animals to drink water from there.
2) Yes, Türkiye is the country that consumes the most cigarettes in the world. There is also a saying about this in Italy: 'fumare come un turco' (to smoke like a Turk).
3) Our love for tea dates back hundreds of years to the days when we were neighbors with China. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I suggest you do some research on Turk history (Hiung-nu, Göktürks, Karakhanids and Seljuks) and other Turkish-speaking countries (Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Yakuts, Uighurs and other minority groups.)
4) the name of the toilet is alaturka. (it is not a Turkish word)
5) Our country has not had an official religion since 1923, approximately 85 percent of the population is Muslim, but most of the believers are not sensitive about religion (alcohol, prayer, tobacco, veiling, etc.) This is because we converted to Islam later and come from a very different culture (nomadic-warrior)
but I can understand why people think that headscarves are compulsory in Türkiye, but it's really a ridiculous idea. Just like this, I don't even mention those who think we ride camels (I saw it once in my life in the eastern region of Turkey) and speak Arabic. Our language is Turkish, which is one of the oldest languages in its current version. When we read a monument (Orkhon inscriptions) engraved on stone in Mongolia 1500 years ago, we can easily understand it 30 percent of the time. We can understand books from 1000 years ago by 60 percent, and we can understand poems from 500 years ago by 80 percent. I think we are very lucky in this regard.
6) Since culture and history gush out from every corner of our country, this is very normal for us and we feel the need to introduce only the most magnificent ones. While walking on a street in Ankara, you may suddenly come across the ruins of a Roman bath.
7) The Turkish phenotype is not just about black hair and black eyes. If you look at the Turks in Central Asia, you will understand them more easily because they have not mixed with other peoples as much as we do. For example, my grandmother is Turkmen (the name given to nomadic Turks during the Ottoman period) and she has blonde hair, blue eyes, high cheekbones and almond eyes, and like her most of turkish Yörük's (Turks who still living like a nomad like my grandmothers family elders) are brown and blond hair. Speaking specifically about Turkey, as you mentioned, we are very different from everyone else, and the reason is obvious, our geography is in the heart of the world, and it is a region that hosted a Turkish empire (Ottoman Empire) that ruled over 2 continents.
8) What can I say? The greatest leader of the 20th century, an intellectual who wrote many books and spoke many languages, a very successful soldier, a marshal, a father, the father of the Turks.
9) Actually, we have one desert, the Karapınar desert in Konya. I don't know how big it is but I guess not much.
10) And as a Turk and someone who has traveled many places, I say again that I have only seen a camel once in my life, in the eastern region. and camels are used only in some fairs. Other than that, we have NO camels!! THANK YOU :)

Alaturka is Itallian come from alla Turca means Turkish way which is a squat toilet. Alafranka for the other type toilet means French way. Thats also Italian too. So it is weird.
I was there a week ago and i prefer squat toilet as i dont like sitting on a yucky toilet bowl. Yeah, dogs and cat were nice fat and friendly. I am so happy that i went there and my experience were fabulous. I still cant get over it until now.

As a Turkish we have at least 2 cats in our apartment, the third cat is coming time to time 😂 the orange one followed the döner delivery guy and came inside of my house yesterday. My boyfriend had a hard time to protect our döners and took the cat out. The cat couldn’t steal our food. Our cats are very well fed and takan care of by neighbours. There are cat food everywhere, they are full but they choose to eat kebaps like us 😂 We don’t know who took them in our building but I want them to sleep inside in winter. The white cat is very friendly and I scratch him a few times in a week 🥰

Been living here for 2 months and love it. I drink ayran to start and chai after eating. The way they cook their chicken is amazing, as well as lamb, though I’m not a fan of every lamb (it doesn’t have that taste if it is a male baby lamb).
Overall the country is beautiful and the people are very friendly. I’m looking forward to next few years working here.
On the toilets I prefer the bidet toilet that allows you to stay clean; wish other countries used this.

@@bigpump9483 if you’re on the historic peninsula on west side of Golden Horn, (we stayed at a hotel there, not expensive but very nice) and walked to Topkapi, Hagia Sofia, Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, and Grand Bazaar. Start early to beat crowds. We left around 0700 and by 0900 crowds were starting to gather….you can also pay inexpensive tour guide to beat lines, get to front.

Just the squat toilet, though cause I've lived in Taiwan, and in mainland China, and the Philippines as well, (I don't know about any other Asian countries.) and I can say many (if not majority of) households use squat toilets.

It is true,Mexico still behind understanding cats and dogs, just recently visited Creel Chihuahua,Mexico, there are hundreds of homeless and starving beautiful dogs roaming the streets and the citizens of that town are blind and impervious to the suffering of the animals; they don’t feed the dogs roaming the streets, no water to drink, no medical attention . Heartbreaking!

My family and I just got back to the States from Turkiye. My wife and kids were amazed by the stray pets. Not stray animals, mind you. They are "Community PETS". Dogs will literally walk right up to you wagging their tails and asking for nothing more than a quick rub on the head. Then they nudge you as if to say "thank you" and walk away wagging their tails again. Cats and Dogs are even friendly with one another, just as they would be if they lived in your home. They don't seem to know they are on the streets. They think every person is their owner. When I saw a "free" animal walking by one on a leash, in my mind, I imagined they felt sorry for the one on a leash.

I am watching this just to feel good about my country, and it did not dissapoint😊 Mexico is the same in many ways, I entered from Chiauahua,and went all the way to Guatemala on a moto. Mexican people and food was great and diverse, and hospitable. Everone always invited me to stay, it was almost a given when I arrived at a small town. I love Mexico and Mexicans.

To the people who mind boggled why people drink tea in Turkey even if it is hot. It is addiction we are the most tea consuming country per capita. Which means average Turkish drinks a lot of tea per day. They get withdrawal effects when they stop it so they just dont in summers either. Withdrawals usually consists of shaky hands,craving and head ache. No I am not kidding. It is not a huge issue but it happens.Tea isnt dangerous or addictive that much of course but moderation is important we seem to not know where to stop.

Hi, I'm not Bery, but I came back from İstanbul two weeks ago. There is a street market between the Grand Bazar and the Spice Bazar, where I've seen the locals also bying their clothes. Just start from Grand bazar and walk.
There are also a lot of bazars in the individual districts that are much cheaper.

Stay away from the ones who form groups other ones wont even move if you dont interact with them. In city there are no groups but if you gonna go more a bit outside of city sides with less food oppurtunities they form packs(Yeah I know) those ones are an issue. But they are chill well fed and friendly in the city.

I love Turkish cuisine but I have to confess that I didn't like the texture of the chicken breast dessert 😅. Another interesting thing for me is that they use a lot of wet wipes to clean their hands in the restaurants.

There are three stages to understanding the dessert tavuk göğsü (chicken breast). When we were kids, we thought it was made from chicken because of its name. As we grew older and learned the difference between a dessert and chicken, we naturally assumed it couldn’t possibly contain chicken and that it was just a name. But the real shock comes later when you find out that it actually is made from chicken breast. How could it be? Is this delicious dessert really made from chicken? 🤯😅

Restraunts have wc that you can use to wash your hands but wet wipes given for free so we wipe it off with it after the meal especially if it is a meal that eaten with hands before washing hands or just pocket the wet wipes.
The history of the chicken breast dessert is a fun one. Padishah wanted to eat some desert but there was nothing in the kitchen but chicken and some other ingredients so some genius washed the chicken many times to get rid of the taste put it into the simple desert that has little to no ingredients. But most chicken breast deserts has no chicken. You will have problem to find an authentic one.
Sometimes I wish my country had stray animals like that. But obviously its impossible, too cold here. I cant wait to travel to Turkiye.

Do you know why in turkey people drink so much tea especially in summer in hot weathers? There is an adverb in turkey as follows; Tea keeps you from overheating. Tea called as çay in turkish and çay has two means; tea and small river. Actually the adverb tells about small river but turks misunderstand it as tea for centuries 😀
Lets be honest nobody cares about it they just find excuses to fuel their çay addiction. My grandmother gets withdrawal if she doesnt drink one day. Her head starts aching af.

Smoking is a societal issue in Turkey. Most of these people start smoking in high school(despite it being illegal to sell to minors most stores do. Also some adults just hand out cigarettes to the young without second thought.) some teachers even started to say that smoking is increasing even in middle(grade 5-8) school. Teens start smoking to "fit in". I did not smoke in high school and actively denied most of my friends offering me cigarettes. It led to me being excluded from the group of smokers and thus most of my classmates. My classroom had 35 students. And I have been friends with 8 guys and spoke with 2 girls but we "non-smokers" were intentionally excluded by the smokers group self-nicknamed "Those who burn"(yanıcılar) group consisting of 1 girl and 25 guys.
I graduated high school 4 years ago but I am still having trouble socializing since smokers are majority. They do not invite me to cafes I either say "pls don't smoke" or even if I say "ok you can smoke" they think I am not "manly" since I cough and get watery eyes when the wind changes direction and blasts me with smoke.

Your input as a young Turk about the smoking issue in Türkiye is so valuable and eye-opening! I never thought it could even reach that degree of excluding non-smokers from a group and from hanging out too, and I see even more pressure to fit in that many start smoking even if they didn’t really desire it at first. I hope this smoking situation specially among very young generations is more regulated and taken care of, it seems to be getting out of control and I’m also shocked when I see maybe 14yo or younger already smoking, I live near a high school and when I’m out while they are leaving their school premises I see most of them walking with a cigarette in their hands 🥺
And never get discouraged if someone thinks that you’re not ‘manly’ enough just because you don’t smoke or you feel bad when getting the second-hand smoke, those things really happen and also second-hand smoke triggers many other health issues like asthma and many (this happened to me 3 years ago and now I’m dealing with it still), I’m very sensitive towards second hand smoke and it immediately triggers cough attacks, and a wizzing noise when breathing, sometimes I even have to use my inhalator, my husband who’s a Turk is a non-smoker also and has never smoked in his life despite all his family and relatives being hardcore smokers. We are a minority in a country where smoking is already a big part of their culture and society, but don’t get discouraged, be proud of it, at some point you’ll find more friends who have your same lifestyle. 🫶❤️
They were probably uncomfortable about making you uncomfortable, at least that's how i feel around non-smokers. When i know they dont like the smell or the smoke or in general they don't like anything to do with it, i refrain from going out much. Not to exclude but don't want to make people uncomfortable also be comfortable myself. And smoking doesn't make anyone manly dude, I'm sorry you had to deal with that.
Well, if you can avoid the smoke you'll outlive them all. Most will have a horrible death from lung cancer & various other cancers. Also it's a sure way for a woman to lower the IQ of her unborn baby. It's a huge burden to the health care system, that's why it's been basically banned in most countries that have 'free health care" such as Canada, the Nordic countries etc. People can smoke but they can only do so outside and away from where other people are & in their homes.

I have allergies and strong reaction to smoking. My last trip in Romania I got sick. Any advice on handling the smoke issue in Istanbul?
My best advice and as someone who suffers the same, it triggers my cough attacks and must use inhalator afterwards, at restaurants or coffee shops, I always seat inside, and in public areas I try to stay away from people smoking near me.

Only thing I got shocked about is the customer service. There is no greeting or smiling unless you greet them first. I'm of Turkish descent but born and raised in Australia and there is a code of conduct whereby friendly customer service is standard. So to not be greeted with a smile is so foreign to me. Having said that this was not always the case but when it was, I just considered it plain rude.

Must go to European side, Zeytinburnu district where you can find local brand genuine leather goods shops..
Laleli district may be cheaper but you should be sure about quality.

On an English language keyboard, this funny name cannot even be spelled. Most nations simply accept that abroad, the name of their country is different.
