    This where the system is really messed up in my opinion, because the pro has you spot on as a 4.0 and you fit the definition, but the reality is that the USTA system is so broken with so few bumps that a huge majority of the 4.0 community is basically 4.5s who the computer doesn’t bump and would absolutely destroy you. You’d be a very good 3.5 and I think you’d benefit more from starting there to work on your game while still being extremely competitive (you’d probably win a vast majority). Good luck!

      @francisplaystennis  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Coming into this I thought I would be slightly below 4.0 due to my serve reliability issues and newer backhand. The system is definitely not perfect ... which is why UTR is a thing. If one day I can get into UTR, I'll do videos for that (once my tennis elbow injury is healed first).
      Thank you for the insight though - USTA ratings vary wildly from region to region is what I noticed.

    Nice i play in nyc too, i was curious on getting evaluated as well. Im thinking i fall in that same ball park 3.5-4.0. I read about court issues, obviously in the winter theres no winning in ny. A few quiet and free places i go to in queens and bronx are waiting for me once the weather gets better. You only play in manhattan?

    • @francisplaystennis
      @francisplaystennis  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can't wait for the permit season as well (soon ...). I mostly play in Manhattan due to location. Queens and Brooklyn I've played before but haven't tried Cary Leeds yet in the Bronx (heard good things though). If you ever do decide to get evaluated, let me/us know how it goes 🙂

      @@francisplaystennis O for sure Cary Leeds is like the tennis place in the Bronx. Its nice and I know a lot of the coaches there from when I was a tennis counselor in my teens at The club of Riverdale. the nice weather keeps peeking for a day or two and decides to run and hide. I can not wait for that good weather! Ill def get evaluated this year and update afterwards!

    Which grip are U using rn for that top spin, thank you

    • @francisplaystennis
      @francisplaystennis  วันที่ผ่านมา

      I want to say that it is a “Western Semi-Western” grip if that makes any sense? Otherwise I might be mistaken and it is a “Full Western” grip instead.
      It’s helpful for the high balls but difficult on the low ones.

    Youre a 4.0 . Good groundies and footwork . You can maintain a consistent rally from baseline . Volleys couid use a bit finesse but were all works in progress

    What is that weird gray court surface? Artificial clay?

    • @francisplaystennis
      @francisplaystennis  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's "Har Tru" or known as a "green clay" surface. Unlike red clay which is made of red brick, this is made of some type of specific stone. Only seen it used in the US.

    Before seeing the result: You have so much pressure on your first serve since your second is such a liability. I don't see you winning much at 4.0 but definitely a solid 3.5! Being able to consistently hit a nice, deep second towards someone's weaker returning side is almost necessary to winning consistently. I think if you can find a way to get into points consistently you develop them really well with good iq.
    I think you'd grow a lot faster at 3.5, too. Since you can apply for both 4.0 and 3.5 leagues anyway. 4.5 is such a long ways away from this (and hell 5 years from mine) that being a 4.0 doesn't really get you much anyway.

    • @francisplaystennis
      @francisplaystennis  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was also thinking coming into this that I was something between a 3.5 - 4.0.
      You're correct in that my serving in general is a liability - don't have the chance to practice that specifically unfortunately (NYC court availability and pricing).
      Thanks for the input and subscribed to your channel 😀

      @@francisplaystennis your flat serve is good man. Overheads are fine as well. Nah you don't need backhand. just slice it like Berettini, Steve Johnson or Dan Evans. At least it works for me 😂

      Oh yeah - think it's elbow pain related whenever I extend the arm. So it ends up looking similar-ish to say Swiatek's forehand if you see it in slowmo.
      Hope to fix that though so it can at least look nicer 😄

    Do people actually play tennis in NY? The court/club costs are extortionate!!

    • @francisplaystennis
      @francisplaystennis  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      NYC is place where tennis can be either very cheap (with a city permit) or crazy expensive. It's usually one extreme or the other.
