      He is ranked 5th in the nation...I would say he is already great. If your definition of great is a 12 yr old beating a good adult player, then he already almost did that here. Adrian is a good kid. And a super player. It's not where he'll play HS tennis, but which D1 schools will recruit him. Give him major credit because at 3-6 he was 1 point away from what probably would've been a routine 8-3, 8-4, or 8-5 loss, but kept battling. (Watch out all you 14- and 16-year-olds!) Re: Winston...I think he's a strong 4.5 who could win a 4.5 league or tourney and move up to play 5.0. Everything in his game, (but the serve,) would make him competitive at the 5.0 level. This was super entertaining. Great match. Fun video. Thanks Winston and Adrian!

  • @alwaysprepared

    I thought that Winston played great today! But, the kid is really tough! He was having to hit balls head high and higher. As he said, that was effective! I was most impressed with Adrian's movement side-to-side! He has an extraordinary split-step! He was always so quick to move in the right direction off of it! He's a great person to emulate for that! Another year and Winston won't stand a chance! LOL

  • @mjmenzies
    @mjmenzies ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Winston, I have been watching your game for years. The improvements you have made recently with the help of Coach Karue have taken your game to a new level. Your serve is improved; your backhand is more consistent (still a bit flatter than I'd recommend for your game style); your sense of court awareness and timing gives you so many more tactical options during the point. If you pardon the armchair coaching, I really believe that a more deliberate split step on the return of serve as your opponent makes contact with the ball will put you in a much more offensive posture that puts your opponents on their heels immediately, especially with as much spin as you impart on the forehand wing. That and maximizing your depth of groundstrokes can easily raise you to 5.0. Keep it up, good sir!

His assessment of the game, at the end, was super insightful, and fair. No excuses. And wow, both of them could hit. I wasn't planning to watch the whole thing, but I got riveted. Winston's forehand looks good; he's hittng with a lot of topspin and hitting the ball heavy.

    Winston, I am new to your site, and I am happy to say I like your style. I’ve checked out a few of your videos, and I am learning from them keep up the great work I like the challenges against different style players, in different levels of skill.

    The kid did pretty well considering the huge height disadvantage when serving. Winston was able to return from the baseline or even a short step inside the court.

    Gotta get a backup battery pack or something. Would love to have seen it go all the way to 8. Well played by both. Definitely good strategy by Winston to be patient and wear Adrian down from the baseline.

    Winston, you're really upping your game! Only thing I'd suggest is that if you're gonna run around your backhand to hit a forehand down the same line, you really need to get back to the center of the court instead of praying that it's a winner. Several time, Adrian anticipated the shot, then simply cross-courted into an empty court. Great fun to watch, though.

    Great set, and very evenly matched although when Winston came to the net or flattened it out his power showed. My only suggestion for Winston, a few too many run-around forehands caused you to get stuck in the backhand corner. Your backhand is very solid just play a BH neutral ball and recover to the middle. Karue has definitely made an impact, your level is WAY up!. Coach Mark

    You've finally found an evenly matched opponent! the problem is Adrian will be playing D1 in 5-6 years. But your progress looks great. Since you like to run around your backhand (which is solid) maybe work on the da-da-da-da-da-da footwork so you don't catch it late. If Karue was there he'd probably say, "Keep the feet moving!"

    excellent video. Adrian showcases how important it is to play the %'s and to not over hit while also being a tenacious defender/ backboard; Winston you played well, congrats; But really you had to come up with excellent combos or a great finishing shot to get it by him.

  • @kenttalcott8428

    Great high level tennis by both players! Adrian might talk more smack than he should but his talent is undeniable. There are a lot of young phenoms with technique and strength beyond their years but Adrian was even more impressive with his shot tolerance, anticipation, court movement and point development. His tennis IQ is pretty developed for a 12 year old kid. He understands court positioning and he has the tools to control his opponent. When he grows a bit and his serve matches the rest of his game watch out! Get his autograph now!

    I enjoyed Adrian's spirit and confidence. He has all the shots and reasonable footwork. Two things I would do with his strengths: Run around his back hand for the higher top spin balls and hit cross court to Winston's back hand. Pin him down for two or three shots then be ready to hit down the line when he has an opening or hit wide and deep crosscourt when Winston tries to hit up the line with his backhand. Also Adrian needs to choose his drop shots a lot more judiciously. Adrian was giving away so many points early on to faulty drop shots. They are only a weapon if timed well.

    #wakeupcall for young Adrian ;-). Keep the passion, but stay humble & show respect to all opponents. Dont be delusional. Results speak loudly. Be like Rafa & Fed......let your Racquet to the talking. On another note, great sportsmanship in the match. Very fair calls, which is EXTREMELY rare in tennis, especially junior tennis. Well done IN THE MATCH👊

    this little bro's forehand, Adrian held tough and had endless wheels because he seemed to have to work double or triple the steps. I thought high to the bh out the gate and it worked for the most part but staying away from Adrian's FH was key, he knew when to go for winners and opened angles up.. great match all around, Winston definitely was being patient a lot of looks also impressive.. it would be hard to try to hit this kid off the court and still have enough gas to finish.
