Shamir played fantastically. High percentage shots and real patience in how he played the points. Nick had coached him about not looking to end the point early and that's exactly what Shamir did. Plus his serve has come on enormously.
When I saw Adam's serve compared to Shamir I knew he was gonna be in trouble

I like the way you back up what you are coaching them/us with by using a quick clip of the mistake so as we can immediately understand and also see just how important what your saying is.
You have to appreciate Nik's dead straight approach. I know at at least for me, intensity completely transforms my hitting level even in average practice rallies.

It’s so true what you said about footwork. It feels silly to be on your toes and doing tiny movements on the court but it helps so much. It creates time and space to make better shot choices
I don't quite get what's "silly" to be on your toes. It's just a natural thing to do to improve your game. Footwork is probably one of the most critical things in practically any sport. If you don't have a coach there are so many YT videos on improving your footwork. Put in the extra effort and you will reap rewards on the court.
Great editing the way you told each of the guys what they had to work and then after each comment you cut to an example of the mistakes they were making.

I’m sure Nick can help Adam with his serve mechanics, but one thing I’d tell him is that he’s tossing the ball too high and holding his trophy pose for too long waiting for it to drop. His motion would be much more fluid if he just lowered his toss a little and fluidity usually helps with power. I’m 6’1” as well and my first serve is one of my biggest weapons, so he can definitely develop that.

Thanks for sharing this video! In addition to calling serves in/out, is it acceptable for the receiver to call the server’s foot fault at the recreational level? 1:07 foot faults can be hard to see sometimes but, in doubles, your net partner often can.

Thanks for the great content! We're missing the full set, but it looked to me at 4-1 or 4-2 that Adam was trying a push strategy with high balls often to Shamir's backhand. It seems it worked out for Adam at least for a game or two, so that could be another future improvement for Shamir

Hi Nick, just wanted to ask if you have any videos (can't find it) on how to approach a game where you easily recognize your opponent is much higher level.
You’ll see, in my club the internal tournaments are classified into 3 free categories for any age, A, B and C, the latter being the lowest level.
It is common for players to sign up in the immediate lower category, either due to lack of confidence, pace, etc. This at my 57 years will understand that it is not very motivating.
I try to do my best even without expecting a favorable result, but it would be very interesting to see your teaching to take advantage even in those situations.

Adam use to choke up all the time, not to muck. Maybe 1-2 cm (round a half an inch). After all I know it's should be done mostly at volleys. At the majority of the stroke you shouldn't do it because you loose to much power but even less feel.

If Adam is WTN 21, that'd make him about 3.5. Looks like he's close to making it to that next level, though. The forehand is a potential weapon.

Out of curiosity what is Adam's and Shamir's UTR ? Are they competing in any tournaments/weekly fixtures? And how is Milan going?

However, I feel that players that are not the elite high-level players, have problems with one-handed backhand, and always lean towards the slice in matches. And the OHB they hit, are mostly the pushing type. It is tough on OHB players because sometimes opponents just keep hitting to your backhand and then come to the net >.

It's a low percentage, difficult shot. If you hit a bad one you're dead.
Hi Nick! My question is not related to the video but could you please answer it: recently I've watched very closely a couple of pro matches and noticed that almost every forehand is being hit while feet are on the toes (the heel is not touching the ground) , but on some 2hBHs the front foot is landed completely and the weight is distributed approximately evenly between the heel and the toe. Is this so? If yes, then why there's such a difference in the stance. Thanks!

The reason this level is less active with the feet is in part because the ball is moving slower than it does at higher levels. At higher levels, you absolutely have to stay on your toes. It is actually easier to maintain a high level of intensity when the ball is moving faster. When the ball is moving slower and you have to wait for it, the intensity naturally drops and it is much easier to wind up on your heals more.
Good point - there is also a tendency to relax mentally when you are having to wait for the ball to come back to you. I find my technique is better against players that hit harder and play faster for this same reason - form gets sloppy when you have to much time in between hitting the ball.

I know this is off topic but there are not many professional tennis players who wear glasses now. There were some older players like Arthur Ashe and Martina Navratilova who wore them. I am assuming most tennis players have above average vision similar to baseball players. This was listed on an internet search "Top tennis players have excellent dynamic visual acuity with sharp vision that can shift focus from near-to-far and far-to-near with great ease. This involves having very good eye accommodation and convergence." Did not know if this has ever been tested such as the vision of a good versus bad returner of serve.
I can’t think of any current players that play with sunglasses 🕶️
@@IntuitiveTennis I should have thought about this more. I forgot Novack Djokovic wears contact lenses probably the best returner in the game now. I think a lot of athletes wear contacts as some are afraid of laser surgery. Jennifer Capriati had trouble playing at night after Lasik surgery. Roger Federer and Alexander Zeverz used contacts also.

Shamir is too nice, think most people i've played against would've called the 2nd point (down the line to Shamir's backhand) out already.

Adam played well for a 3.5 player!
Rly like that Adam had some power behind his shots. With better footwork and intensity he would pushed Shamir so hard.
On the other hand Shamir played very safe but there was little pressure behind his shots. Except for the serve.
Shamir’s shots are a lot flatter than Adam’s and he had to be more cautious in the strong wind

very close. Shamir seems more intent on hitting to Adams backhand more consistently. Other than that its really tough to tell who is 3.5 or 4.0. However, Adam did try to loop to Shamir's one hand backhand which nice.

@@jd2722 right, and even if you perform them well use sparingly and keep surprise factor.
You start to value such coaching after a match especially when you played some tournaments yourself(without a coach of course) and failed to win matches which you could win.

I guess you have to give Shamir some matches he can win to keep his confidence up. He did get destroyed by Emma, who will probably destroy all of your students. The outcome is supposed to be what happens when a 4.0 play a 3.5. 3.5 guy actually is not that bad. He's locked however into a bunch of habits that are hard to change...

@@MeakH1 Any tiny part of the ball just needs to touch any tiny part of the line. Not sure what you are seeing, but the ball was in.
@PaulWolfe1 I am seeing that the ball didn't touch any part of the line and/or any area of was in. What you are seeing is the shadow. In addition, he was sure of calling the ball. He might have hesitated slightly because of the closeness of the ball being out by a few inches.
@@MeakH1 Well I wasn't seeing a shadow. But OK, I played it at the highest res and .25 speed and went frame by frame and … it does appear out. By the tiniest amount. Maybe. Would really need to see it at the exact moment that the ball is at its most compressed. But I stand corrected, it was a legit Out call. Just watching it without going frame by frame it looked like it caught to my eyes.
I'd really love a low-priced and effective shot caller for regular people. The price point is a little high right now.
