This is such a good channel. I used to eat sardines and cheese all the time. In a previous life I worked on a farm in exchange for food and shelter, but on Sundays I would play guitar on the beach for enough money to buy sardines because the farm was only serving vegan food. I really like this channel a lot thanks for all the great recipes!

Natural sardine oil is high in Omega 3, however, if you buy them in oil it leaches The O3s into the carrying oil. So to get the most O3s from your sardines you have to incorporate the oil in the the dish you are preparing or choose sardines in brine.

I had never eaten a sardine in my life until this past weekend, but I decided to do the 3-day sardine challenge. I was expecting to have to gag and white-knuckle my way thru it...but much to my shock and amazement, I really like sardines! I had no problem eating a whole can at each sitting and enjoying them just straight out of the can. I tried a few different ones and agree that the King Oscar in EVOO are the BEST. I also really like the King Oscar with jalapenos variety. I jotted down your Sardine Bites recipe and am looking forward to trying those soon!

Hi Anita! Thank you so much for making this video! I have not been brave enough to eat sardines out of the can, or out of the fridge yet. I did make a sardine salad, if you will, like you would make an egg salad… So I used a can of sardines and added some mayo and salt/pepper and some Chopped up hard-boiled egg and a few capers and ate this “salad” with pork rinds. It was OK but not as delicious as egg salad lol. I cannot wait to try this fried recipe. It looks very good. I laughed out loud at 5 ‘ when you said, “It doesn’t really matter if they break as long as you get them in your mouth.” My mind saw Cookie Monster transformed as a Carnivorous gobbler, stuffing his mouth, bits flying! 😂😂🥰 at the end of the day you are so right. I’m betting many of us are like me, growing fond of eating with finger’s and licking fingers!
Extra perks: teeth stay way cleaner & body odour is so much less requiring less under arm deodorant.
For 45 yrs I believed vegetarianism was the superior food. Transitioning to way different tastes, not colourful or with textures & tastes for variety was difficult yet the relief from Ankylosing Spondylitis was & us every day a gift of such pleasure with no symptoms. So many thoughts…
First I can’t help but thinking about the cartoon movie “ cloudy with a chance of meatballs” the lead character lives in a bankrupt fishing town where the only sustenance is sardines. The town folk try many ways to make them palatable to no avail. You have definitely proven them wrong 😅
Next I love your kitchen , everything is set up so well and I love the red accents.
Lastly I was also afraid to try sardines. I’m good with kippered snax in a can but whole little fish creeped me out . I purchased the ten pack from Costco in the yellow box, they are skinless boneless and in olive oil . I found these kind to be pretty tasty and tried them after my 9 year old said he liked them ( go figure)

I eat sardines (packed in oil) right from the container with a little balsamic vinegar on top. Simple and easy and tastes like an expensive restaurant seafood recipe.

Thx for recipe. Had these at a buffet last week and was trying to figure out a recipe. I never could see myself eating them either as I tried once and yuck. But the little fried critters with the breading looked so good and I was able to eat and even enjoy so I appreciate the post. Btw your apron is so pretty!!

I just had sardines for the first time yesterday; I put them into a big salad in which I'd have normally put tuna. it was really, really good, and I can't say that I tasted the sardines at all---but there were a lot of good things (keto except for the kidney beans. Refuse to give up beans!) in that salad, which was deliberate.
Today I'll try them without so much "stuff" around them, but I have to introduce things slowly---I have severe allergies and food intolerances, and I want to make sure there's a buffer anymore, misery and pain not being a desired part of my diet.
IF I ever fry them, I'll bread them with keto "bread" crumbs, which mix I found in my favorite grocery store. it's a simple combination of lupin flour and coconut flour, and is excellent to use wherever breading is needed. And it doesn't come from pig, which product I avoid entirely.

Sounds like a great plan to introduce them slowly!

I love sardines. I get the Wild Planet brand that are lightly smoked and add them to my scrambled eggs. Gives the eggs and everything a nice smoked flavor. Never thought of breading and frying them. Sounds great.

Those look good! I really liked the brisling style of sardines too. The brand I found at my local Meijer store was called Brunswick. I'll have to try this soon!😊

    • @KetogenicWoman
      @KetogenicWoman  ปีที่แล้ว +3

Nice, we have the Brunswick brand here in Canada but the sardines are huge, 3-4 in the can. I like them but I do prefer the tiny ones!

Thank you for this idea, and I also love sardines and especially the brand you were using! , however I would fry the sardines with the extra virgin olive oil they were packed in for a more nutritional effect. By using bacon fat your making them less healthy. I’m sure they were good. Thank you for the recipe 😊

Finally got the courage to try sardines. Saw the former vegan daughter of a carnivore try them. If she had the courage then I do too.
Glad I found this recipe. Maybe this will replace my craving for breaded smelt. Mom would roll them in flour with salt and pepper and fry them. We would eat a plate full for dinner. (Laid out in a single layer, not piled high). No smelt here so I haven't had it for decades. This may do the trick. 😊
