    I think the lack of updates on the GT1000 core is actually a good thing. I’ve been using it for the past 2 years. I have my 10 or so “go-to” patches. The sound quality is awesome. No glitches or bugs to report. Near zero latency and no gaps. Why would you wanna update that?

      Correct bro.I dont know why people like to have 100 of amps when you pnly use 5-10 amps maximum on your gigs?

    I have the Boss GX100. It's the best sounding piece of gear I have ever had. I recently bought the QC. I tried to switch over but was never really satisfied with my tone. Word to the wise, just because it cost 3 times as much does not equal 3 times as good.

      That is also true in the tube amp world. ( Boss GX-100 is probably the best value in the market now. )

      I have the GX100 and GT1000 and I like then both but my ears always point towards the GT1000. I just prefer its sound and the XLR outputs as well, sounds nice through the PA. That multiple divider block is very useful and gives more creativity tone wise.

      @@ridney5586 Boss didn't want to undercut their flagship unit. The GX100 has a nice user interface. If the GX100 totally smoked the GT1000 for only $600, that would render the GT1000 instantly obsolete. Maybe soon they will release a GX1000?

      That's very cool that you experienced it that way! Like what you like. The truth is in your own ears. I went from Helix to QC, and couldn't be happier. If you're Cordy, you can make all the devices sound the same. I couldn't get a simple amp + cab to sound good. Fizzy to me. QC, it's no problem! It felt like I had to work to get the Helix to sound good, but I have to go out of my way to make the QC sound bad. To each their own.

    • @ogmakefirefiregood
      @ogmakefirefiregood 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @CitAllHearItAll the QC really sounded pretty good right out of the box. I didn't give it as much time as I could have. 2 things, I play at church and stream music via Bluetooth from my phone to my pedal for practice. No go with the QC. 2, I was really used to the workflow with the Boss and didn't want to invest the time to really learn the Quad Cortex. Especially the footswitch assignment.

    People want to hear with their eyes, if there's no picture of Marshall or Dumble, they don't know what they are playing through, no matter how good the sound is.
    Same problem was on Yamaha DG amps, brilliant amps with motorised knobs, but because Yamaha labeled them just Clean, Crunch, Drive and Lead, and two version of all of them, people are disappointed because none of them was Labeled Marshall.
    And still DG amps had active eq with low and high mids, which gave you so much power to change the tone that you could mimic it to sound like anything.

    One thing I used to do on the GT1000 is that if there were any blocks I wasnt using, I literally shoved them inside the inactive part of a divider at the end of the signal chain. So at the beginning of my chain I could usually fit all the things I'm using on screen at once.

    • @JamesJLaRue
      @JamesJLaRue 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@JamesJLaRue Yeah one thing I wish they'd update to clean up the interface is just sticking all those blocks into a bucket. Like have a block with a [ + ] and you can just click that to add a block. Or drag another block into it to remove it.

    This is the unit that I wanted from the beginning, but I chose the Stomp purely for the UI and the community. At the time, the FB group for GT1000 users was full of complaints and didn't have any input from Boss employees. I love the look, and the effects have to be great. I mean, it is Boss.

    I use one of these and I've been very happy with it. I use it as an fx unit before my tube amp, so I'm not using the modeling part of it. I compared this with the hx stomp and kept this one for the simple reason that the way the 3 button switching can be configured more than on the hx. The thing that works for me is that I get pretty much any effect I need, flanger, reverb, delays, chorus, noise gate, overdrive etc... all in one pedal, which saves money and equally importantly means I can have all these fx and not have to lug a large pedal board around and find room for it on tiny stages :D

    I moved from a Pod Go to a Boss GX-100 and I'm loving it so far. Tones are really good (especially the cleans), the added flexibility of the signal chain is a huge bonus, the switch layout is much better for my large feet, it's easy enough to learn how to use, and the seamless switching is just a huge selling point to me vs. the Pod Go. I'm not sure why the GX-100 doesn't get mentioned more, past (as you mentioned) those initial reviews around when it came out. Glad to see you revisiting these units. They're worth being in the conversation still!

    My favorite thing about the GT1000 core is the sound of the Boss effects. Nothing else quite comes as close to a classic Boss CE chorus, or a BD2, or a DD delay. It also has a super cool feature where the split junctions in the chain can be triggered by frequencies. So you can send the high frequencies down one path, and the rest down a different path. I haven’t seen other multi-effects that have that ability for the triggers on the chain splits.

    • @ibanezman1025

    No gap at all when you change preset, the lowest latency on the market preserv very well your feel when you play, the little size and the easy way to power it (can be powered only with a power bank!) make this unit useful for every situation, from a big gig to busking.

    The latest firmware added studio-level mastering effects, and an SDE-3000 delay. Plus it does midi and multi-channel audio over USB, so you can use it as a re-amp box, or use the FX loops as an insert to use physical pedals in your DAW.

    I think what Boss does best on these units is allows for a HUGE Variety on their "FX" blocks. Nobody needs 3 limiters in one signal change, nor can anyone hear what is happening if you have phaser, flanger and tremolo going all at once, but I'm still free to choose that madness and that's what makes Boss great

    Thanks for the excellent review John. I purchased one of these when they first came out (sold my Helix to get it!) and have really enjoyed it.
    Like any of these units, time spend educating yourself reaps great rewards. I have interest in other units but no desire to move away from the Boss.
    Why? Sounds great. Playing feel is great. Effects are great. Sounds great into an amp (important for me). Works great with external pedals. Does all I need plus more.....
    What could improve it? More modern and intuitive interface. However, if you take the time to learn it, there isn'tmuch you cant do. Pair it with a Morningstar MC6Midi unit and you have as many options as the big units.
    In my opinion these are significantly underrated.
    Love your work!

    I love my GT-1000 Core. I've added a couple of FS-7 footswitches and they make it really versatile. It boots up very fast and I love the sounds you can get from it. I don't play guitar when I do play out - I'm normally playing bass - but for my guitar playing in my studio it works really well. My amps just get too loud for me now and I can plug this into my mixer and run it through my JBL monitors - front and back - and I can get lost in the sound of this little unit. Sure, some of the newer modelers have fancy color touchscreens but I love this little guy.

    Been using the GT1000 CORE and always sing its praises. Its a bit misunderstood and too quickly judged (like your early videos for example). Super powerful, fastest switching, great tones, even better real amp feel under the fingers, Boss effects. No it doesnt have 300 specific amp types and IR's, but I leave mine on the Natural Clean or JC amp, and it works for my sound. Also, people don't realize how customizable and versatile it is in that regard. powerful little unit. Full desktop recording rig of you need it to be..

I prefer it to the Helix as for me this was much easier to dial in then the hx stomp for example, also the feel especially with distortion is really good! Can they do a better job on some things? People in comments on various GT-1000/CORE videos have heard statements about the "fixed" signal chain and mistakenly interpreted that to mean the order can't be changed. The signal chain itself isn't fixed...the function of the blocks is fixed or semi-fixed.
    I just use a 1spot wall wart with mine, a bit less messy than the factory brick.
    I use both GT-1000 and GT-1000CORE still. There's certain real world drives that are missing - Blues Breaker, Nobels ODR-1, Precision Drive. In exchange though, you get more controls than the real world drives (low end control on all drives, dry mix)
    The update culture is abysmal with Boss. It's like they don't see how important that is to maintain hype. Been waiting for harmonic tremolo forever.
    I'll also say their harmonizer/pitch effects are nowhere near Eventide smoothness. I've never been super impressed with the reverb either but it's not horrible.
    One cool thing about it is that every parameter of every possible effect model is stored. Meaning if I use the FX1 block as an octaver, then assign a footswitch to switch FX1 block to be a phaser, it remembers the knob settings for both those FX.
    The UI is fairly brutalist, that's undeniable.
    What I dig about the Core in particular is that it's smaller than the footswitch that came with my amp. The Core has TRS amp control out and MIDI out to control most heads. So I can use the CORE only as a tuner and amp channel switch and it's already saving a lot of space. I can run it 4CM with EQs both in front of the amp and in the amp's FX loop, add some gate, and have that all tied in to channel switching. I haven't even added any swirly whirlies and just as a "utility" device to "tame" and control an amp it's highly convenient. It serves as a dual loop switcher with trails, or an A/B loop switcher, metronome, tuner, noise gate, amp channel switcher, and EQ. Even if you only use it for "boring" stuff it saves a lot of room and cable mess. I also like running it 4CM with amps because then you get a hardware master volume knob for the entire amp. (My amp has no overall master volume).
    The core could replace, for example the TU-3, NS-2 and GE-7 on a pedalboard and it would save space and be more vesatile just in those 3 roles alone.
    I tend to favor the GT-1000 when going direct and the GT-1000CORE when using it with an amp or other pedals. But I recently played with just the GT-1000CORE into a Headrush FRFR speaker. Main gripe is that you can't deactivate the "press 2 switches at same time for tuner/manual mode thing". I accidentally enter tuner or manual mode sometimes because of that. That would be an easy fix with an UPDATE but we know Boss aren't into the updates.

  • @SanduFCB
    @SanduFCB 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I really like this unit, specially the power of loops. One i have for the 4CM next is chorus i can blend with clean signal. Then i can add delay which is not affected by the chorus so i have like clean sound with delay mixed with 50% of chorus with reverb. Cool!

    I have a GT1000 core, I used to have a helix setup and I like both for different reasons. I prefer the boss in many ways but one thing I miss about the HX setup is the effects having controls that are on the actual units. Every distortion on the GT1000 has the same controls, whereas if you go from a tube screamer to a fuzz (on the HX) you will get controls that match that pedal. I think the boss's way of doing that is potentially more powerful but it is certainly less user friendly to people who know how the real pedals work. I am planning on getting an hx effects so that I can have the best of both worlds. The moment I switched to my boss unit I got compliments from the band and sound guy so that speaks well for the Gt1000 tone wise. It also FEELS the best compared to the other units I have played on and reacts to the volume knob the best.

    I've been using the gx100 for pretty much everything. Shaping tones and recording at home, as an audio interface and studio rehearsals. Found it super reliable and feels great to play compared to nux I had before. No experience with line 6 or fractal units though. There's always plugins for everything else recording wise, which, for me is far better than modellers in terms of tone quality, feel and ease of use.

    The other thing is the Boss GT uses its own processor which really doesn't get hot like HX Stomp. Boss has been way above the curve on that stuff. What all the others came out with having a slight gap, GT-10 did many years ago. My only real beef with GT is the lack of balanced outputs.

    hey there, i see your all the videos and you make very good videos. as you are talking about boss gt 1000 i want to add something. we really need to understand the BOSS's concept. some say all the other companies are giving updates ,amps effects but BOSS doesn’t . Here is the catch , BOSS doesn’t need that update. Boss promotes its own digital amps , All the amps it has given named natural , supreme JUGGERNAUT etc , these are its own amp and these amps are sufficient for one person for the next 10 years. I have used all the products except the fender new one and every product is different but the truth is in live situation Boss has given me the most comfort.
    In Studio we have many options , like vst or amp mic but in live situation Boss is great . I am not saying other product is not good, they are great but they are just trying to mimic the analog , to me which is not important.
    I think we all have a perspective that we need fender delux tone or that marshall tone !! but the reality is, some of us have never used actual amp which is completely fine !!
    In that case , any amp , digital or analog , should work for everyone if we can get out that holy grail concept.
    I think you can understand my point of view.
    Thank you for the videos .

    I think a lot of Boss stuff looks really dated, but performs well. The ME-90 looks like it's 15 years old, or older, but the demos I've heard sound pretty good, especially for the price. I work in tech and on a meeting some of the team were debating how much we needed to worry about 'look and feel'. I pointed out that Apple built an empire on 'look and feel', so maybe we should put some thought into it.

    Could argue it's more powerful than full Helix in the sense of conversion, resolution and latency. I am bias I recently got gt1000 and really like it. I do cheat though and use one of the fx sends to branch out to fx return of a 20w valve head just to get some real speaker do that pre delay and then have the delay and reverb before the main monitors. Sounds sick. Wish it had my sd-1 in it though, would love a v2 with tone-x style capture and a mic input.

    One other thing to mention, the power supply situation is much better then the helix, its 9v I litteraly use a power bank with a 5v to 9v convertor cable and power it from that, thats awesome! A lot of times power is an issue where I live l, this way im independant also makes seting it up from me getting it out to having a great sound in about 2 minutes especially on sound check.

    On my GT-1000 Core I run stereo dual amps, stereo cab to FOH, and a separate cab modeling to my onstage amp (what Boss calls output select modes).
    Idk if that chain is possible on other small modelers but certainly not with enough DSP left over for me to run the rest of my fx. Delay, verb, stereo pitch shift, one or two drives depending on if I like the sound of the same drive on both of my stereo amps.
    In a trio setting where I want these guitar tones to fill tons of space I think the GT-1000 Core does an awesome job.
    Gotta admit, a single reverb and delay is frustrating though. Dual delay mode gets the job done but…barely.

  • @Luisinuay
    @Luisinuay หลายเดือนก่อน

    There is a section of the manual were you can find what amps are modeled after what real life amps, its not that specific, but you get the idea once you compare said part.
    Personally, I dont think the naming of the amps is the issue. I think its just the lack of updates.
    Also, about the pedal on screen interface, yeah its kinda basic and hard for some people (i think its fine, I learned how to use it, but i've sen people struggle)
    but you should use the computer app , thats waaay so amazing.
    Yes it loads IRs, but he speaker and amp sounds get really weird if you try to change the order of the blocks hahaha you have to try and repeat until you finally get it.
    Final notes:
    I guess reading the manual would solve many of these doubts, but yeah, I get you, no one reads those. At least not in dept.
    Also, some highlights of it that I would mention is that:
    - Its a beast on the midi side, you can program tons of things, to be controlled by midi pedals/keyboards/daw/etc, and also to control other pedals from here. its really really really exceedingly capable in that matter, that said, I use mine with a morningstar mc8, and thats it. when you use midi thats when you really get the most out of any multifx unit.
    - It can be used as an audio interface. Setting it up and getting to know the routings is kinda difficult, but once you get it its amazing.
    - You can add 4 footswitches to natively control anything you want of it.
    - You can have 4 simultaneous outputs, and if may also set it to play 2 intruments at the same time. ( i play a guitar and a bass in my band, using only 1 gtcore, guitar gets 2 outputs one direct to the amp, and the other with amp sims for FOH, and the bass gets its own outputs, with its own treatment)
    - It has polyphonic tuner! (also strobne and normal) and you can use/see the 3 modes at the same time.
    - It saves 10 input gain presets, in case you use different guitars.

    Re all the comparisons between the GT 1000 / 1000 Core and the Line 6 Helix / HX Stomp; one thing that I imagine the 2 Boss units don’t have on the Helix - but I wouldn’t mind having confirmed - is that they don’t feature profiling tech for capturing external amp or effect sounds in the internal memory and recalling them for future use. The Core is still, otherwise, very tempting choice for a future amp modeler as a comment in December 2023 and think about any 2024 purchases I might make.
    Hitherto, the only floor-based modeler I’ve owned with an internal network for including outside effects is the Line 6 Pod HD 500. It would be great getting another one with that feature but in a much smaller package. Then, even if emulating my preferred distortion generator which has a very profound mid range boost in the fashion of the Boston guitar tone, I could at least include it in the effect send. Presently, I placed it between my guitar output and the input into the model as I am currently using, the (Boss) ME-80 and a Zoom B1X4. Unfortunately it reeks havoc with the way-wah and modulation effects in those two units.

    I get what you’re saying about their amp models, but I’ve always been more interested in digital guitar products doing something different than just emulating existing amps. I think Boss’ MDP amp models are one of the interesting explorations in that area that haven’t gotten the attention they deserve. Not having upgrades isn’t only an issue for giving people like yourself a reason to revisit the products. It also makes it less attractive to customers. I’ve often been jealous of Helix users when a Helix upgrade gets announced. I don’t want to only get improvements when its time to buy a new unit. To me, Boss also has a UI problem. While other hardware manufacturers are making huge progress, Boss’ UIs weren’t great anyway, and they aren’t making much progress. Even in the knobs-not-menu area where they do better, I think they have room for improvement. And in general, Boss doesn’t seem to prioritize marketing as much as other brands do.

    I do use one and I agree, Boss does not update these devices and their tech support when addressing the irregularities with the unit is basically useless.
    It is tricky to learn how to use plus it has some quirks specially when trying to integrate it with pedals through the loop in conjunction with a tube amp. Used as a standalone modeling unit it is a beast but you do have to low and hi cut and for the most the original can capture is not that great. Once you go into the options in the ir section it’s limited but good.
    All that being said they need to improve considerably the IR section as well the output filters which are a disaster. It works best if you leave it set at recording and choose the suitable IR or turn it off when going into an amp.
    Most issues can be worked around but at the given price point we should not.
    In terms of what it can do well once you give it a suitable high and low cut it can deliver realistic amp tones and it responds in a very dynamic way to your attack with headroom to spare.
    I bought it because of the form factor, ability to run two signal paths simultaneously plus having two loops available. As a traveling musician that cannot fly with large pieces of gear this meant that if I am provided an amp I like I can integrate my analog pedals, if the amp situation I can go into the p.a., an amp’s loop or use an FRFR. In terms of switching if your signal chain is not a anything crazy within one patch you can go to effects mode and trigger in boosters, channel switching and effects. You already have three switches on board that you can destin to anything you want but you can add a a dual external footswitch (passive) for almost no money like a Digi Tech. I find it enough to perform live and have options.
    I have also played with it just by itself with no external switches. If you go to manual mode one switch switches amps in a preset, one can add a boost and the other an effect in the channel of your choosing but you could assign the switches to do whatever you want.
    I have not heard people talking about the bass amps and effects which sound amazing.

    I have the full GT1000 and our band runs both me and the other guitar player simultaneously. I can notice a slight gap when changing from our rhythm tone to our clean tone, but not when switching from our rhythm tone to our solo tone. This kinda makes sense since we use the same amp model for both our rhythm and lead tones, but a different one for our clean tone which may be the reason why we can hear a gap. Plus we have 2 separate signal paths running at the same time. The unit also shines with 3rd party IRs since the built in cabs sound like shit, atleast to my ears.

    As someone who doesnt have much use for modelling, I bought the GT1000 core wanting to consolidate all of my ambient and modulation sounds into one device. I was severely disappointed with the quality of the effects and the routing oversights in such an expensive and DSP powerful device. The delays and reverbs were all noticeably worse than on my standard series Boss pedals, plus I had extreme phase issues when attempting to perform simple parallel routing. I ended up making about 20 presets that all sounded worse than the sounds I was getting from my current pedalboard, so I ended up selling it.

      Well that's exactly what keeps me from buying these devices. I mean, having tried the BOSS ME90 which is supposed to have the same AIRD stuff than this, and same basic effects (that's what they say..)
      I just found it horrible, digital, harsch, and nowhere as near good sounding as dedicated pedals
      Nowadays you can build a pedalboard for 300 bucks (like NuX analog pedals series which sound great) with compressor, delay, chorus, drive, OD.. and will sound a million times better than this

    I tried to make the Boss GT-1000 work for me, but it was terribly noisy even with humbuckers. It had a ton of hiss even on clean and edge of breakup tones. I was thoroughly disappointed with that as I used a GT-100 for nearly a decade and never had that kind of noise floor with it. It was unusable and nothing else I use was having that issue. I was bummed because it is a great sounding unit with a lot to offer.
    Also, their main developer Jeff Slingluff passed away a couple years ago which really put a damper on product development and updates. He did a lot and was a mastermind behind a lot of Boss's new product lines. He used to work for Line 6 then jumped over to Boss. It's pretty sad and will be interesting to see where they end up going forward.

    I think every time you pop in to talk about the GT 1000 Core, I have to make a comment saying how much I like mine. I have your presets and really like them, and I think the unit overall sounds really good - as good as I could ever want or need.
    Regarding the amp modeling philosophy that Boss has, I think it's interesting and good in one sense it that it eliminates that entire talking point of comparing this or that amp model between different units - if it sounds good, it is good. I can respect that. However, those kinds of debates can really drive engagement and keep a brand or product front of mind for people, so they maybe miss out on that by choosing the path that they have.
    I guess, since there's going to be a bunch of GT 1000 Core users in the comments here...well, several maybe...I do have a question for you all. I run a SY-200 in one of my effects loops (super fun pedal), and I've been debating what to put in the other. Maybe something that give me more delay and reverb options like a DD-8 or RV-6, or maybe something that's not covered by the GT 1000 at all like a harmonic trem of some sort.
    What do you think is the pedal that best compliments what you're getting with the GT 1000 Core?

    • @Shaddy89
      @Shaddy89 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm actually considering getting an hx effects to run in the loop of my GT1000 core, I used to be a helix guy but switched to the GT1000 because I was curious about the feel, which is definitely better than the HX. I really dig the distortion and amps on the GT1000 but miss some of the effects on the HX stuff. You could also go with the source audio collider or something like that in the other loop, which would give you great stuff but a little cheaper.

    • @JamesJLaRue
      @JamesJLaRue 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Best compliment pedal for me has been MXR Reverb. That way I can use the GT's reverb for room sound or to mimic an amp's spring reverb and then I still have the MXR set to a huge "special effect" type reverb. There is the dual reverb model on the reverb block, but spring isn't available in that case. And I think that's an oversight because to recreate the sound of a fender twin with spring reverb, in a live room requires 2 reverbs.
      I've found that the GT competes with separate pedals for many of the classics like Phase 90 and Tubescreamer. But I have a cheap Donner Yellow Fall delay and the GT can't exactly get the same sound. If you run a delay block 100 wet on it's own path, add some high and low pass and overdrive, you can almost get the grimey sound of the Yellow Fall, but not exactly

    Hey here’s an interesting thing… the boss 500 series released long before the HX Stomp so I guess line 6 actually copied boss. Thanks for the video

    How about a HeadRush Core review John. I am interested how this compares to Helix/Boss products. Looks like a nice Touchscreen too. Cheers

    Yep pretty much agree with your assessment. Very few updates and not being totally transparent about using other known amps in their amp list are big downsides imo.
    I know every other manufacturer does it, but just clearly let ppl know that you are modelling other brands.
    Their own amps the X line are great but in 5/10 years these products disappear and then what? Those amps are lost forever. It's not like they're gonna have them around like the JCM800 in like 30+ years. In any case the GX100 is a better buy than this one.
