I can actually see a list of the effects that I'm looking for while scrolling without scrolling past the effect that I intended to use. I've been waiting for you specifically to review this pedal! You're not just one of the best players, but one of the most informative, knowledgeable and articulate.
Feel is a huge factor for me. My Katana 100 mk2 "feels great" and rivals any tube amps I have owned. I believe the Core 1000 will feel as good or even better. The more I here about this unit the closer I am to jumping in!

It’s 3 years past your comment, David. Did you get this? How do you like it? One question I’ve asked couple of times below demonstrations by Tom Quayle of this model but didn’t get a response to is whether or not the plethora of soundshaping options in it includes the ability to approximate the (late 70s) Boston guitar sound without having to include anything in the effects loop. You probably can’t answer that for me, but we need if you could. (Mostly, I don’t think their guitar sound was achieved with tube amps.)
Don't know what a lot of people are talking about... This thing sounds killer! And the routing options and sheer power in such a small package is incredible. To each their own I suppose! All I know is that I want one! For a player who likes to experiment with sounds but also doesn't have the money to spend thousands of dollars on different amp and pedal combinations, something like this is a dream. I fully intend to use this live and for practice, and even implement it into my current tube amp setup with the nifty sub out feature. Great video Tom and awesome playing as always :)
you can get this to learn, play, record. If you need to play live, get a couple of footswitches and you are good to go. It is so compact, and versatile, you can go play at your balcony, your front-yard, back-yard, car roof, it doesnt matter , you will have that great tone to record anywhere.
It all comes down to ”does it sound great”, functionality and feel. BOSS is really taking a lead in this area. Thanks for also demonstrating more clean basic sounds. 😉🎸🇸🇪😊
I’m very happy to say that last night I found that I could make very good use of this pedal unit but there’s so much more you can do with it😊 I like using it when you find a patch and then click to the right of the patch and find you have three different sounds for example clean overdrive Delay but they’re the ones I like to use❤ 🎸👍
As much as I love and yearn for the tonal possibilities, I always end up spending more time digging through manuals and menus whenever I end up with a device like this... Boss ME-1000, please!
Currently having a kemper , I’m very tempted by this!! Yes a kemper is amazing and the use of unlimited amps. But trust me , most amps sound similar, maybe higher gain ,better cleans more mids ....... blar blar blar . In the mix the boss will be will be just as good as any other modeller. Dam even if you was put in a room full of real amps , someone would be bitching .
I got one not too long ago despite already having an hx stomp. And now im selling my hx stomp. I give the HX stomp the edge when it comes to ease of use, having more effects and having a better envelope filter. But i think the GT1000core sounds better, feels better, uses less power, and has more routing options. Don't get me wrong the HX stomp sounds great, but the Boss sounds more HD. It's kinda like being ok with watching videos in 1080p but then you switch on 4k and realize that you've been missing out.
Hey Sean, if you're only interested in effects and no sims, do you feel like the GT has better FX or the HX effects are just as good? Considering the HX is cheaper..thanks
all you do is get someone to set you up a nice clean tone with a little Reverb if reverb is what you like, I do. then you go to that very patch and click manual. then your in you will have the option to add more effects its great. nice tones really nice
Interface, interface, interface. Boss must upgrade the Interface on these to really break through with these new units. It looks like something boss would have made in the 80's. Put a HX Stomp-like interface on this thing, and it would surley take it to the next level.
@John Galt: I find the UI of the GT-1000 Core *far* more intuitive than the HX Stomp. That’s one of several reasons I returned the Stomp (which I acknowledge is still an overall good product-just not nearly as intuitive or convincing in *feel* as well as tone as the Core), and I’m not looking back. I truly do not know what you’re talking about when you mention the 1980s. Have you even tried the Boss unit? I’m confident you have not.
@@JIAbbot I love boss as a company, and they make a lot of great products. I just can't understand, in this day and age, why Boss don't have a high resolution color screen on this $600 device. To be honest, I think Boss went with the “DOS” look largely to keep the Core affordable and still maintain the full computing power of the GT-1000 floor unit. This 32-bit processing is no joke-I’m getting extremely real *feeling* (not just sounding) “kickback” from my amp in real time, something I find quite satisfying. Eventually, price point has to be part of the discussion-that says, the tones I can get from this thing are so pleasing, I’m fine with a less-than-sexy LCD display. I have the same dislike for the Boss small-screen & scroll interfaces... The obvious next step would be implementing the Roland Phantom touchscreen interface, but that would make these units larger and much more expensive...
Great video as always Tom. I have a GT1000 and have always kept this separate from my pedal board due to the size. The core would enable me to incorporate both my favorite dirt pedals and have the same compact rig for direct to PA or when using an amp. Worth the thought from a super convenient perspective.
I have my GT-1000 mounted on my PedalTrain Classic II with four pedals. Power supplies are mounted under the chassis and one pedal is mounted vertically behind the power switch.
It's looks cool, and sounds great, but by the time you add an expression pedal and some footswitches it will take up the same space and cost almost as much as the GT-1000 with less features, connectivity and more cables. I guess if you use midi it would be a great option.
This is for players who want less features. They want to add their own features. There is a place for this. Rhythm guitarists who use 3 to 4 sounds... And recording guitarists
Shantanu Das As a Boss GT-1000 and Nux MG-300 owner, the Boss slays the Nux MG-300 in terms of effects. Amp modeling sounds great for both units, but the Boss unit is the best feeling amp modeler I have played, including Helix and Headrush.
Cody- I can save you the trouble. That would not be a fair comparison. A closer comparison would be to the Line 6 HX Stomp. The FM3 is in an entirely different league. It sounds "very" close to the famous AxeFXIII which can run $2k-$3k- depending how you set it up. World class tones. The FM3 is simply the floor version that has less power but for 90% of us, it will far exceed expectations.
Great explanation on the output/sends. For such a small unit, that's what most users are concerned about: how can it simplify my rig? how can it make my rig more reliable?
Its a great piece of kit and is better than the Helix the only down side is Boss does not provide the Micro USB which is a none charging type. Trying to get one of these in the UK is almost impossible. The customer care suggest two that were charging type USB and they wont work with the Core. Seems they have customers but they dont care.
Does it really have that nice spongey poweramp feel like a tube amp? Thinking about selling my tube amp as I'm just not gigging with it and getting one of these, just don't wanna be dissatisfied with the feel mostly.
ill never get to the bottom of this thing I don't think, But Manual mode is a hell of a lotta fun I can tell ya, its great with really nice sounds. just click middle button and the right button and your in it. Its great. You can be on a clean sound you like then add compression gain or crunch and Delay Great sounds
Very good unit but when you add an expression pedal and a couple of footswitches you get into the price of the full size GT1000 which has 10 switches and a pedal. Maybe the difference is how you implement each unit in an existing pedalboard but, then again it is a complete pedalboard on it's own.
Tom, I always love your demos and playing! I just learned of this unit today but am thinking of not only using with EG, but keys and/or a Godin Multiac Nylon. Do you think this would work well?
Yep, the unit has stereo ins and outs. Plus you can turn off all the amp/cab sims and get creative with those 24 effects blocks you can turn in at once. All at 96khz sampling which is twice the audio quality of a standard CD recording...crazy eh !
Tom, do you use this through a guitar amp or through a full range / flat-frequency-response system ( like a PA for example ) ...the GT1000 Core is a modeling unit, so I'm thinking a guitar amp is too "colored" in it's frequency response to sound its best ?
Thx for an effective and as well informative introduction. Maybe you wanna check on the link that should lead to the featured unit. I land on the Amazon UK website for the GT 1000 when I click it - not the Core.
Great and awesome video with demos in greater details about GT core. Since I have both GT- 1000 and FM3, some questions are crop up to me as to how quickly change sound in live situations as the scene functions do in FM3 unit without latency and/or gaps. Let's say if you need five patch sounds( clean, lead, rythm , chorus ans chorus ) in GT core, then you will have to push up or down button three or four times continuosly back and forth. This makes probably a negligence in play causing some serious mistakes in technique. Deep concern....any ideas?
Hi Tom, Just subscribed, great concise review. Looking at your studio set up, it is remarkably like mine, although I have a Marshall TSL60 and a rare Marshall Club& Country amp. What interests me a lot is that keyboard you have under the desktop. I have a very heavy semi-weighed keyboard that I have used for years, M-Audio 88. I am looking for a keyboard that goes in that position, I think mine is too heavy. So, is yours on a sliding rack? What is your keyboard? Any advice appreciated, thanks
How does this unit compare in feel after the helix 3.5 update? Thinking of going digital but with an actual tube preamp pedal (vox mystic edge) dont wanna lose that feel though.
What's your opinion of the gt1000 series processors vs the fractal audio processors?? As far as sound and feel?? The fractal stuff seems to have the best searing shred lead sounds from what I've heard.
@@jtm-rq9gt Sadly, "best of the best" doesn't exist. It all comes down to your own preferences. As an example, I don't like Boss for the most part [had a few GT series because there was nothing else to get a hold on around] and only dig their verbs and delays. Really like the modulation and filters on the Helix, use some clean guitar and bass amps from Amplitube and have my own assortment of drive pedals and others.
Great review and awesome product! I have subscrived! I have a question if you can answer me. Does the big Gt-1000 has the capability of changing the chanels of 2 amps at the same time in 7CM? Does this Gt-1000 Core also does it? Cheers from Portugal 🍺🤘
I’m on day 3 trying to figure out the looper. I have the Fs-5L I was told i was needed. And I’m just trying to set it up so the CTL 1 button starts and ends the loop and the 5L plays the loop or vice versa
I like my GT1000. In addition to its lower third-party IR resolution, the IR resolution is not as good as the GE300. This is a bit disappointing. I really hope that it can greatly improve this problem.
“It’s the best modeler there is for expressing your playing” I hear: it’s doing the best it can! Don’t make fun of my digital tone 😂 Jk with you. I’m about to buy one and try it though I hated the L6 products I tried..
Hey! I have a GT-1000 core and he knows how to use two amplifiers (but only two, not three or more). Two different speakers can also be used by switching to recording mode.
This thing does literally everything I wish my HX Stomp could 🤓 Damn you Boss your making me break up with Line 6. Update 3.0 on Helisx is a giant turd For the Stomp and the pitch shifting that is in the L6 Poly is nearly useless with stomp not to mention doesn’t track well IMO. So if anyone wants to buy an HX Stomp after that sales pitch them Holla 🤣
Hi, I have a question. Since there are 2 inputs on the unit, can you, say, plug 2 guitars to it? Like 2 mono paths? Or alternate inputs between presets? I added a separate output to my guitar for a piezo pickup and I like to process humbuckers and piezo separately and simultaneously. Couldn't find anything in the Core user manual. Thank you and have a great day!
Hello Tom! I have seen all the reviews on boss and headrush pedalboard,, but I couldn't find your reviews on The Line6 Helix or Helix Lt,, I would definitely love to watch your review on it🙂🙂🙂
This is not fair! You've tuned your b-string a half step off so that the chords are not configured consistent with a standard tuning. Any other tricks? That first setting sounds very much like Wayne Krantz in his first two albums.
im ready for this with the Blugitar amp. why have all that crap when you can use a couple of devices with a simple scene patch controller. its all you need and still have modular flexibility. all in one solutions like helix and headrush are great but not flexible enough for my tastes. my current rig is BE100 with a mountain of the best pedals you can buy. time for an upgrade!!
does anyone know up to how many patches you can quickly recall with the aid of external footswitches? I have not found anything about this, not even in its manual.

Amazing review as always Master! The GT-1000 core is a great product 👏🏼👏🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼💙💙
Tom, you've got great chops!
Great review and great little machine..the feel on this and gt1000 is unmachable!!
Does it really have that nice spongey poweramp feel like a tube amp? Thinking about selling my tube amp as I'm just not gigging with it and getting one of these, just don't wanna be dissatisfied with the feel mostly.
ill never get to the bottom of this thing
I don't think, But Manual mode is a hell of a lotta fun I can tell ya, its great with really nice sounds. just click middle button and the right button and your in it.
The video quality is amazing ! Which camera are you using ?
What a great demo. Thank you sir.
Are there any synthesizer and organ effects or patches in this unit? I'm quite stoked to get it!
Love that piece you're playing at the start of the video. Cant place it but beautifully played. Great unit too - I've got one and sold my Kemper.
HX Stomp 24 bit, Boss Core 32 bit. I don’t know how this difference translates but I’m interested in finding out.
It’s a big jump.
Based on features I need, the full sized GT 1000 is the one for me, but this thing is so cool looking I still want to buy it.
Fantastic demo Tom! I got the GTk, bedroom player. Might get the GTkCore soon
1:36 niiiice! Great video and playing as always!
Between the gt1000 and the fractal, which one has the most realistic sound and fill?
@@Dawgley 😂🤣🤣🤣
Yeah but the stomp is so limited in DSP it’s pointless to have 8 blocks so apples to apples I dunno 😕
TOM is the BOMB!
Thank you, Tom.
Great demo from the best. I'm buying this as soon as I can get a 15% off.
Tom, do you use this through a guitar amp or through a full range / flat-frequency-response system ( like a PA for example ) ...the GT1000 Core is a modeling unit, so I'm thinking a guitar amp is too "colored" in it's frequency response to sound its best ?
Great review
Hi Tom, can you have one Amp in the Left and other in the Right? thanks
Thx for an effective and as well informative introduction. Maybe you wanna check on the link that should lead to the featured unit. I land on the Amazon UK website for the GT 1000 when I click it - not the Core.
It’s not on Amazon yet, but as soon as it is I’ll update the link. Thanks!
Any advice appreciated, thanks
great review - thanks !
Link to Thomann @Tom as I'm going to pull the trigger on this... do they have an affiliate program??
Don't be fooled guys! Tom can make $20 amp made from a trash can sound good!
Haha!
How does this unit compare in feel after the helix 3.5 update?
Thinking of going digital but with an actual tube preamp pedal (vox mystic edge) dont wanna lose that feel though.
Damn. Can we get this patch? 6:00 🔥👌
Hai tom. Please make video tutorial about how to use studio one.
What's your opinion of the gt1000 series processors vs the fractal audio processors?? As far as sound and feel?? The fractal stuff seems to have the best searing shred lead sounds from what I've heard.
the question now is "Will the Quad Cortex eat Fractal, Kemper and Line6 for breakfast"?
@@jumpingman8160 Totally forgot about Neural Dsp Quad. That's a good point. I'm between the Quad and Fractal audio.
It's good to keep yr fave valve amp so your ears can tune and edit the processors better..when you're still fresh from playing into a real amp..
Can you connect a guitar to one of the loops (or main in) and a bass to the other loop and run them simultaneously?
I’m on day 3 trying to figure out the looper. I have the Fs-5L I was told i was needed. And I’m just trying to set it up so the CTL 1 button starts and ends the loop and the 5L plays the loop or vice versa
Is it worth getting this for the effects alone if you already have a boss katana mk 2 or is there a lot of overlap with what they both offer?
is there a way to find your sounds as presets?
I like my GT1000. In addition to its lower third-party IR resolution, the IR resolution is not as good as the GE300. This is a bit disappointing. I really hope that it can greatly improve this problem.
Cooool playing!
all outputs could be assigned with sim cab? or just phone using y cable direct to mixer? thank you
Great Brother.
“It’s the best modeler there is for expressing your playing”
I hear: it’s doing the best it can! Don’t make fun of my digital tone 😂
Jk with you. I’m about to buy one and try it though I hated the L6 products I tried..
Sifu, I'd die to know the chord sequence from 03:08 to 03:45...
HI TOM, How are you getting the sound to the computer?? DIrect or MIC?
This is all direct into my audio interface.
@@tomquayleguitar but this device could be used has an audio interface to record direct to the computer, why do you need an audio interface?
@@tomquayleguitar wow.. that sound great, thank you
Rubén Parolla you don’t, but I was recording my vocal mic at the same time.
Sorry to bother you, does the gt-1000 core also gives you the option to set dual amp? And dual cabs???
Hey! I have a GT-1000 core and he knows how to use two amplifiers (but only two, not three or more). Two different speakers can also be used by switching to recording mode.
So when is the gt1000core XL coming out?
This thing does literally everything I wish my HX Stomp could 🤓 Damn you Boss your making me break up with Line 6. Update 3.0 on Helisx is a giant turd For the Stomp and the pitch shifting that is in the L6 Poly is nearly useless with stomp not to mention doesn’t track well IMO. So if anyone wants to buy an HX Stomp after that sales pitch them Holla 🤣
You, sir, really rock!
It seems like you can.
Did you find the answer?? I need the same thing to do!!
Can i play along with songs on my phone nu using return 1 or return 2 as an aux in?
hi guys, just bought this but is there a bypass function? (how do i just get my pure amp sound, no boss gt-1000?) thx
Hello Tom! I have seen all the reviews on boss and headrush pedalboard,, but I couldn't find your reviews on The Line6 Helix or Helix Lt,, I would definitely love to watch your review on it🙂🙂🙂
Would it even be worth it to get this for my Boss Katana?
This is not fair! You've tuned your b-string a half step off so that the chords are not configured consistent with a standard tuning. Any other tricks? That first setting sounds very much like Wayne Krantz in his first two albums.
Nice review ,but it sound like it's clipping , specially in the highs
Is there anything from Boss' synth units in there? Can this take the place of one or more of Boss' 500 units?
just get a synth [long time synth pedals user turned to real synths].
I’m tryin to connect the gt core to the software on the computer and doesn’t seem to work can somebody help me ?
The GT-001 is unbelivieable too...its from the GT-100 ...!
im ready for this with the Blugitar amp. why have all that crap when you can use a couple of devices with a simple scene patch controller. its all you need and still have modular flexibility. all in one solutions like helix and headrush are great but not flexible enough for my tastes. my current rig is BE100 with a mountain of the best pedals you can buy. time for an upgrade!!
Boss ms 3 can Control the gt1000 core?
does anyone know up to how many patches you can quickly recall with the aid of external footswitches? I have not found anything about this, not even in its manual.
