Glad you reviewed this gem again, it holds a special place in my heart, despite it's many flaws it scratched so many itches I didn't even know I had back in the day, and the realistic vehicle interactions really pleasantly surprised me.
This game is truly a thing of it's own. Used to be my favorite childhood game, and I'm so sad there is no modern game that replicated what soa did correctly. I tried to look for similar games, but nothing feels like this one, and no it's not plain nostalgia.
Amazing game, it has such a huge place in my heart, every year during autumn when the weather is foggy, I always think about Soldiers of Anarchy ‘s amazing and unique athmosphere . Love it!
I found an original russian version cd of this masterpiece in a small thrift store when i was a kid in like year 2005. At that time we didnt have internet at home so i was playing this game non stop, only stopping to go to school :D i got obsessed with finishing the game hording as much equipment and weapons, spnding as less ammo as possible and if i lost a single troop, i would start again after analyzing where is the last point i went on a bad strategy or maneuver. I loved that you could save the game at any point and restart a mission at any time.
I wish there was a modern version of this game ... I have seen a game that offered such a amazing military combat simulation like this. I mean I love all the vehicles, how you train the crew, trade, gather new vehicles ... so awesome!
If a game comes with an editor, it's automaticly a timeless in my book. Salokin, if you are still having troubles with the game, ask away. For example, the issue with aircraft - it has unfinished hover animations. To un-stuck, or execute a flawless attack, always command a move issue first, then quickly attack. For multiple adversaries a "hold shift" follow-up seems to work just fine too. As for the "alert" system in the desert... It triggers if any single soul on the map takes any ammount of damage :D So much for the sneaking gameplay there. Campaign was not ideal too, primarely because of the GUI editor having limited AND / OR functions
@@salokin3087 rumour has it there is an external dev editor going arround. no idea where to look for it tho. the biggest game forum is russian (soa 4bb)
back in the day of early 2000s i got the game included with my purchase of a video game magazine in my country. still have it, played it not too long ago, different experience when playing as an adult. but one thing i like about this game a lot is that there is no nuclear wasteland, its basically only the people that got wiped out while earth remains the same.
One thing I strongly wish they changed in this game is to give Vehicles ability to shot and move at the same time. Unlike soldiers, commanding your tanks and vehicles in combat is a huge pain as there is a long delay between moving and preparing to shot. You order your car with heavy machine gun to attack someone, but it the target moves out of range the moment your vehicle tries to attack, it goes back to driving towards the target again. I even had some stupid situation where I had trouble finishing off enemy panicking soldier with tank machine gun because he keeps running away, making sub-weapons on vehicles practicly worthless, forcing me to waste expensive long-range shells. Ability to move and shot, especially on vehiles with full crew would fix a ton issues and make tank/vehicle control way more efficient. It would especially help on tanks that have a few sub-weapons.
Soldiers of Anarchy should get a spiritual successor made but set in Twilight 2000 since there's a plethora of Cold War-themed games coming out and nostalgia for the late Cold War era is at an all time high.
this looks so good from the visuals to the ambiance to the setting and models very immersive for its time it reminds me of stronghold crusader a bit . the type of old hidden gems i look for. im sure it has difficult controls but its probably worth it with the amount im seeing in the gameplay
This game looks awesome, thanks for reviewing it! Definitely gonna give it a shot at some point. My favorite "hidden gem" RTS is a game called Tzar Burden of The Crown. Totally recommend checking it out. Gameplay is super solid, like a mix between AOE2 and Warcraft 2. Though my favorite RTS is probably Battle For Middle Earth ;P
I wish for a game like this, I remember LOVING it until the end when never got to use the Howitzer I d be fine to modding it but those probably don't exist. Need a 2x longer campaign and bigger teams.
Thx for taking the time to showcase this amazing gem of a game. I must have played it a dozen times. Since you didn't mention it, did you know you can add ammo and weapons to vehicles and bring them back to base like that. If I had ever written a script about this game and made a video I think I would have said the same thing about it as you did :)
I tracked this game for around a year after playing the last days of gaia an amazing rpg that uses this same engine I think, i never got around how planes worked I mean i understood the transponders but they would "crash" against the hills and mountains, i never figure out if i was doing something wrong or my game was glitching.
Finally playing this myself and am most of the way through, it's a shame this game hasn't seen a digital re-release, I'd love to play missions other people make with the mission editor. (But I can't even find any old uploaded custom missions oline.)
Can we buy the game now? Like digitally? I used to play it in 2002 and I want to play it again now. Please. I downloaded the version from the Old Games RU website in description, double click on the game shortcut to run after install and nothing happens.
I loved this game, all the authentic vehicles, weapons, and ammo was awesome. Dont know why somone hasnt made anything similar or a reboot. Another game I wish they would reboot with tons of authentic guns and grenades of WW2 is Silent Storm.
Hello my friend am in for the support to your channel found your channel from @Geography now am afam of that channel from Kenya 🇰🇪, I have watched your video, subscribed and liked 👍
really loved this game, and still have the original CD + external drive. However, I can't get the game running. I can install it and start it. But as soon as I kill the bear in the first mission, the game crashes. I'm on Windows 11. Any hints what to do here?
Sorry for the wait. Never has that issue, but I've only played it on win 7 and win 10. Could be win 11 that's causing the problem. Maybe try a virtual machine?
The game used the same engine as The Fall Last Days Of Gaia which was a better game and awesome RPG.Both games have that "Twilight 2000" pen & paper RPG vibe.
Somehow this game stopped working for me on I beleive it was even ... vista. Today I found it, installed it and it works, it is some 1.1.2 version from a czech game magazine that had it. It runs, but I somehow cant find any options to set resolution, since it is like 640x480 or 800x600 at best. When compared to modern games, assets are few, but the level of detail for something 20 years old ? It sort of reminds of newer games like MoW, I hoped for some skirm ai, but too much I guess :P
I can't run this game on win 10, always freeze when I enter the game,or only go for a short time than freeze again, anyone plz help me XD ,I use to play on my old PC many years ago,it's an awesome game for me. but my new PC just can't do it : (
I played this game for a long time and I still have the original box on my shelf. The game had amazing climate, cool story (this whole story about religious sect being responsible for creating a virus and the entire investigation around them) , awesome soundtrack and plenty things to do. Personally for me this game was too buggy and too much limited . No sidequests etc. It's a shame that you cannot train everyone and use an entire army to fight against the enemies.
Glad you reviewed this gem again, it holds a special place in my heart, despite it's many flaws it scratched so many itches I didn't even know I had back in the day, and the realistic vehicle interactions really pleasantly surprised me.
Yeah, years later and I still can't anything quite like it!
Could not have said it better myself gents. Just glad not to be alone on enjoyable playing this game was. Is it still playable? Gog or steam

Most unknown and underrated game.

if only some game studio just made a modern version of this with more character customization. it would be amazing and they would make a killing
