Got a response from one of the main Developers: Basically the apocalypse setting was interesting for its extreme conditions which allowed characters and scenarios to explore differently. Apparently it was a struggle to get it all working particularly for a small team. Unfortunately no english release was planned on account of performance and difficulty to get the voice acting done For all intents and purposes it seems the game is basically abandonware
Wow! I'm super impressed you managed to get in contact with a developer, I've tried a few times myself, but I was never able to find a way to reach anyone. Who did you contact and please do you think you could share his email address with me? EDIT: Thank you :)
The game already had German voice acting when it was released. However, the voice output was of "suboptimal" quality. The sample rate was very low, which is why the voices sounded awful. Only a major language patch ironed that out. In this, the language files were available in a higher sample rate. I never really played the game. When I got it, it was so buggy that I could hardly get through the first city O_o . I've made up my mind to play the game again several times, but so far I've never felt the motivation.
As someone who has been one of the few active people on pro-d.ru blog throughout the years keeping it somewhat alive, I really appreciate your video and effort that went into it :) Seeing my article about the lore in your video is an honor. Good job and thank you!
Man, it's been years since I've heard from this game, here is what I remember: When Black Isle canned Van Buren (ie: "Fallout 3") there was this void for CRPGs with a) Post Apoc Settings and b) Devs you could interact with. Remember that back then talking to a game dev wasn't that common, nobody was using twitter and all we had as sites and forums. Then the devs of The Fall start making a lot of noise, they said they would try to buy the Fallout License and make something with it, but ultimately all they were really able to do is hiring Hulk, one of the Fallout developers. There was a lot of talking with devs in the The Fall forums, people would stay all day long posting ideas for features, receiving some responses here and there and ultimately just 'fantasizing' about the game together. Near the release of the German version, for whatever reason the devs started losing their temper with the English Community. Keep in mind that despite the saying that a "english version was never intended", I don't think this is what was said to fans: A english translation was "always on the horizon" and I remember the devs talking about it time and time again. The site was both in German and English. The game was translated to other languages, if I'm not mistaken French and probably Spanish. The French version was a mess, and angry people flooded the forums. Devs wen't full on rage mode a 'f your customer service' and the game ultimately never got released in full-english. I do recall the company being very aggressive against the fan translation, saying they still expected to release a ENG version and the translation was basically "piracy". it's interesting to find years later that ultimately a ENG version was never fully planned, maybe we were just being thrown for a loop to generate hype for an otherwise unknown project.
Played this game when I was young. Left a lasting and great impact on my gaming habbits. I know I am biased, but I would urge everyone that like post apo games to try this out.
Fresh off an Arcanum kick back in 2010, I remember discovering this hidden gem of a game. I was really impressed with how much effort and depth the game had for something from 2004, and you'd think an indie survival post-apoc game that early before the flood of later games would get more attention.
I thought I was the only one aware of the game. Happy to see someone do a proper video review of the game I'm finding OG, Extended and Reloaded editions on Ebay. Which one do you recommend?
I'd appriciate if you could look into the Close Combat series. It's a highly detailed millitary tactics game that has eluded me for years. And I can't think of a better person to cover it than you.
I remember the trailer for this game from back in the day. It had a nice song playing in it. I actually played it a long time ago because it was free with a gaming magazine I used to buy between 15 and 18 years of age.
The voice acting can is decent at best but at times it's like the actors have no clue what they are reading from their scripts. What's cool tho, is that it seems like they've recorded atleast 2 completely original lines for every character, which is quite a bit of effort for a game this old.
I finished the game about 7 times... Now i'll try tu install it again on my Win10 PC... As i,m getting older, I reeally appriciate nostalgic games more and more and "The Fall" is on of the best!
Has anyone been able to get the DERFFLINGER patch/mod to work with the German DVD release of Reloaded 1.10.1? The Fall: Last days of gaia - Derfflinger mod ver. 7.4 (9.10.2007) It's for v1.10, but it says only for the Russian edition. I tried installing it, and the game no longer works, stating: E-FAIL : An undetermined error occurred It's difficult to understand the instructions, since it's in Russian, and Google Translate does a poor job translating to English. It says it's only for the Russian version, and foreign language versions won't work, but it repeatedly makes reference to correct severe bugs in the German edition. Which would only make sense if it could be installed in the German edition. I'd really like to get this mod working, since not only does it correct a lot of severe or critical game bugs, but it also introduces a large amount of cool new crafting recipes! Is it possible to force this patch to work with the German version?
I went on the Russian fan site and they had to make a special version of the patch. Which worked great. It added more crafting items for example. I managed to finish the whole game.
I went and bought this game off eBay on the strength of this video alone. The European eBay allows me to order the German copy of Reloaded and have it delivered to the UK. QUESTION: Does anyone have the mod which restores the blood censored from the German version? I found some mentions of it online, but the official website which housed all the mods is dead. I really want the blood back!!
Nice review, man, keep it up! :D It's one of my all-time favorite games. Check out my extreme playthroughs of it, if you are interested! As of now, there is a 1-character-melee-only run on Normal; and a 1-character-only NO DEATH throwing weapons run on Very Hard/Apocalyptic (the hardest difficulty). Also, I've also used the Russian forums, the guys there are incredible fellows for having compiled the data. I've even contributed with some tips/tricks myself :D

If you want more Eurojank check Cold Zero: The Last Stand/No Mercy. You can actually buy digitally on Gamersgate and it's DRM free. That's where I got my copy. The Fall kind of reminded me of Cold Zero. It runs well on Win 10. The only problem is one level there are some visual glitches on the floor. It's not too distracting to me at least. It's a short section of a bigger level The beginning is hard because you can't use good weapons and you're not that accurate but once you invest some skill points it becomes more fun.
And let me tell you as a german, even the german version has it's mistakes like a few times when the quest guy should say the text, your own character awnsers on her own question and then replies to that.
Shame that the Mutant City expansion was never made for that game. While The Fall is flawed, it's really not that bad. Kinda baffle my mind that they never made an english translation ... it's like they didn't want money from outside Germany.
