    Nothing makes my cheeks clench tighter than seeing a betta getting real close to a baby shrimp. Also another tell tale sign your fish aren’t bothering your shrimp is if most/all of them are foraging out in the open. Usually means that the shrimp feel safe with the fish in the tank. If you only see one or two and no juveniles, might be a concern.

    What size are the tanks your bettas and shrimp are in? I would love to add a shrimp or two in a 5.5 gallon with a betta…. 🤔

      Mine are 8 US gallons or 30 liters. If you have a calm betta I think it could work in a 5.5 gallon tank, especially if there's plenty of hiding spots and the betta is fed well.

    I’d like to house a betta and some cherry shrimp, so I’ll just have to chance it-at least once. Thanks for the video.

      Mate I agree, I often see people say males are more aggressive but most the comments on TH-cam, Instagram, and TikTok are saying they found their females to be more aggressive too.

    My betta koi female (Battlestar) is sooooo agressive I had to fetch and setup an emergency aquarium 😅 but I love her. Rip my shrimp tho…

      Love the name, huge Battlestar Gallactica fan :).
      But yea, same happened to me, thankfully, I had another tank full of cherry shrimp I could move mine over to save as many of them as possible.

    I've been contemplating tossing some in with my betta, to see if he's willing to be nice.
    I want to wait though as i planted a carpet of Staurgyne Repens (tissue cultures are INSANELY good value for getting lots of small starter plant bits) and I want it to grow in a bit more first to provide shrimp safe hidey holes just in case. Id rather it not be a shrimpocalypse, and my Betta, like Stitch, tends to be excitable, glass surfs and tries to fight his reflection. I'd feel better about trying if he was more chill :)

      Yea definitely wait wait for some cover to grow in mate :).
      That said, even with the cover, Skittles still hunted the cherry shrimp constantly >.

    I unfortunately witnessed my female betta catching a small white cloud minnow. I'm sure she ate it even though I didn't watch the whole process. (it was all but a small portion in the mouth) . Anything that can fit in a betta's mouth is potential food. Bettas are so pissy sometimes.
    But I know what you're saying about having a betta that doesn't hunt and eat anything but its regular food. I have a betta that doesn't eat shrimp so that can be the case too. He gets a little hangry and chases the few fish that are in the tank with him but nothing that would stress them too much.
    They are surely an aggressive fish but each have such unique personalities you just never know. Love seeing your bettas by the way.

      Yea, they could switch to shrimp eating machines at any time. Totally agree about them all having their own unique personalities, my three are all different :).

    So... Is there any way to judge personality of a betta in a shop?

    • @GlassBoxDiaries
      @GlassBoxDiaries  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      People say hold your finger out to the glass to see if it flares and it will be more aggressive. Personally I don't really think this works well but my two that are fine with shrimp don't flare and the one that ate all her shrimp would flare at me just for being close to her tank.

    Kuhli is spectacular! What abeautiful fish. I've got a Betta in a 16 gallon (60 liter) tank with a load of cherry shrimp, and yes, once I just happened to catch her snacking on a shrimp. So I'm guessing it's not an irregular occurence with her. She gets along with the rest of her tank mates just fine, but when it comes down to it, I think she likes shrimp. Well, what can I say? So do I. 🙂 Great video. Thanks for the share. Cheers, Mate! ~Ron

    My Betta Dale is just like Kuhli! My tank is well planted and has ton of driftwood caves for him to explore and swim through, and I have never seen him ever chase the shrimp except for the very first day I started introducing them to his tank a few at a time. He just follows and watches and inspects everything and everyone in the community (there’s Kuhli loaches, otocinclus, a dozen ghost/ cherry shrimps and a few mystery snails and everything’s super peaceful).

      I have watched it already and I got a filter media from a friend I wanna know when I should put the cherry shrimps in

    • @GlassBoxDiaries
      @GlassBoxDiaries  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@balaji2924 If the filter media from your friend has been running in his filter and you have similar water parameters then you may be able to do it now. Cherry shrimp have a very small bioload.
      The issue is, if you add fish later and the ammonia levels increase the shrimp may not be able to handle it.
      To be safe, its probably easier to add the fish, wait till everything settles and then add the cherry shrimp last.

    • @balaji2924
      @balaji2924 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well it's a 20 gallon and quite heavily planted and just going to be 3 endlers and few pygmy Cory's with them but I guess I should not risk it nonetheless

    • @ThermicLight
      @ThermicLight 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@balaji2924 - That your tank is heavily planted I wouldn't stress. Especially since shrimp are light on the bioload.
