      hushhog1 thx dude! Yes, very versatile. The Bogner is EL34’s and the Dual Rec I have 6L6’s. There’s some real magic / mojo that comes from blending those power sections. Truth be told it’s rare that I bring both of these amps to a show, but I almost always record with both wired stereo and it’s incredible!
      What’s your setup look like?

      Right now the live rig is a Mesa 212 cabinet and choice of Dual Rectifier 2 channel, Peavey 5150 ll or Peavey Invective Mini Head. Also, I have the Mesa 412 to bring for bigger shows if room allows for a two amp setup. Looking to get the Bogner setup like you have very soon (Ecstacy Head and 212 cab). I think it’s something about the Bogner that does it for me. I’ve been a Mesa guy for a long time but considering the change over. Main guitar is a beat up ‘05 Gibson Les Paul Custom.

    Hi - thanks for the video. How do you change the Ecstasy 101b channels without a voodoo switcher? Does your 101b have midi? I have a 101b and the channel switching is analogue only and requires and adaptor cable the converts the OEM foot-switch output on the back of the amp into three 1/4" cables, one for each channel. Thanks!

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mike Dee,
      I modified my footswitch cable about 10 years ago to use with my old TC Gsystem. I cut the end off and terminated it with 2 balanced 1/4” cables & the multipin that attaches to the amp. RJM makes a similar cable as well, so I would recommend just buying one, they are about $50USD. From there you can use the midi instant commands with the external amp switching jacks on the HXFX - which I describe in the video. 👍🏽
      Hope that helps! Hit me back if you have more questions.

    @Quickness, I will be running a more simple set up than yours. Basically, I will use the HX FX for FX into the FX loop (of course) and switch channels on a Blackstar HT Stage 60 which uses TRS for switching. Is the best way to do this using snapshots? Can I use an amp channel for each one of the 6 footswitches? I just want to keep things simple. I'm pretty smart when it comes to setting things up like this but I've never used the Line 6 HX line of gear. I'm gonna basically set up an 80s clean channel, a hard rock 80s rhythm channel, and a lead channel with delay and reverb, maybe a dry channel, etc. Thanks for your reply!

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Texas Rideshare Guy - Yes you can assign 3 of the buttons on the HX to each of the three channels on your amp. This makes it really great for programming your snapshots, very quick. Simply choose each of your channel settings for each of your 4 snapshots, then click whichever snapshot you want to start with when you load the scene. So if you start your song with clean delayed guitar just hit save when that snapshot is selected.
      Btw The video does cover using instant commands to do amp switching.
      To implement amp switching use one of the assignable loops and choose amp switching. You configure that function in the command center using instant messages. That’s the around 2:35 in the video.

    Thank you video! helps a lot. are you using the voodoo labs switcher because the Rectifier has multiple 1/4" inputs for its switching? also would it be the same set up going directly into a midi port for amp in my Blackstar S1-200, I used to run the Voodoo labs GCX system but trying to eliminate the rack with the HX.

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Kevin Baird,
      Thx for watching!
      Yes I’m using the Voodoo lab control switcher because the amp uses 1/4” jacks.
      The blackstar uses midi switching so you can send a midi cable direct from the midi out of the HX effects to the back of your amp midi in for your switching needs. You would not need a voodoo lab switcher. The catch here is setting the midi channel for your amp so the hx and the amp can communicate. That info should be listed in your amp manual. The HX requires that you set up the midi for each individual patch and designate your channel selection for each of your snapshots.
      On another note, I like using the midi Quadra splitter box if you are using multiple midi devices. (They’re $35 ish) I made a cable loom for my amp as well. Just need a 20’ midi cable and the cables for whatever method you are using to the amp. I assume its -input, send, return, and a power source. You can use electrical tape every 12”-18” to keep the whole thing quick and tidy to setup.

    • @Quicknessband

      Jeremy Diggs yes I am using midi for tap tempo. It let’s you use one device to align everything. I also use a tc helicon device for vocals, this lets me send midi timecode to get the taps correct for vocals as well 🤘🏽which is great because my particular device (TC voicelive 1) doesn’t have tap tempo as an option.
      Btw, Sometimes the Strymon Mobius does some odd things with taps so I have programmed specific times and turned off tap for that particular device. Since I made this video I have also added a Strymon Big Sky as I really love their products as well. 👍🏽

    Hey Jacob, I realise it's an old video but thanks for doing it! I'm just about to set up my rig in more or less the same way, but slightly simpler. Essentially using the HX Effects to for it's effects in 4 cable method and also changing channels and functions (boost, EQ on/off) on my VHT Ultralead. I've had to order a special MIDI converter to enable me to change amp channels as the amp uses 6 pin DIN but I think it's the same principle as the Voodoo One you have. Anyway, I had a question, I was planning to do all my amp channel switching via instant commands and snapshots but I notice in your video you've also assigned the amp switching functions to switches as you said it makes it easier to program, is that bit necessary if I'm making my patches in the desktop editor? I presumed per snapshot I would just use an instant command to send whichever PC change I need for the various amp functions but hadn't thought about having those functions also on switches, could you explain the benefit of doing that a bit more? Hope that all made sense, and appreciate your insight, cheers!

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Graham,
      I like being able to run my rig in stomp mode as well when I’m playing. The good news is that every patch allows you to configure things differently, so you can do a bank of patches for your amp and a bank of patches for a completely different rig if you like.
      For the way you describe it, I assume you want to control other effects or other devices so I believe all you need to do is program the amp settings for each snapshot in your instant messages with a program number for each amp channel on your switching device. I would setup the switching device on it’s own midi channel and program it as 1, 2, 3, 4, for each amp channel and or boost function and program all your snaps that way. It would probably be a lot easier to program it all on the desktop app. I hope that answers your question.
      ✌🏽

      @@Quicknessband Hi Jacob, thanks for the response, much appreciated. Ok cool sounds like my thinking is aligning with the reality so that's a good thing! Awesome video! It's the only one that I could find that covers the "instant commands".
    So, just to clarify, when you want to use the instant commands with snapshots, do you have to go back into the command center and scroll to the instant command that you want said snapshot to use?

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dustin Beck,
      yes you need to set everything in command center, but only while you’re editing. Once the patch is programmed, you just hit whichever snapshot you want to use. The beauty of this system is you can use different instant commands on different patches, or none, it’s done on a patch by patch basis. (To speed up the process I made a template patch and copied it to the first 20 patches and started building sounds from the template.)
      I have a separate patch for every sound I use for all my various gigs.
      One important thing to remember is that you need to use one block to actually turn the Strymon on/off and you set the patch number in the instant commands. You need to save your patch on the hx (of course)
      Sidenote: our other gtr player recently picked up the morningstar 6 controller and it’s dope, it gives you a lot more access to the HX. He uses it to control his HX Stomp. He’s got a patch where he changes the harmony settings 3 times in one song because of key changes 🤯 I’m ordering one in the next couple weeks.

      @@Quicknessband Ok I think I get it. I am running a Line 6 POD HD PRO for my amp sounds and my HX effects for all of my actual effects. I basically have 3 amp sounds saved in different banks on the POD. 3A is clean, 3B is crunch, 3C is High Gain.
      Is it possible to program the Instant Commands to switch amp sounds while using snapshots to do so? I guess that's a better way of putting my actual question haha

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you would need to use the hx as the controller, choose a midi channel on your Pod pro, then use one of the instant commands via BankPC set your midi channel, scroll to the 2nd screen then set your program channel (podpro patch#)
      Once you’ve chosen your channel setting, you just go to the other snapshots on the same patch and set the channel for each snapshot, then save. Easy once you wrap your head around the hx language. But bloody hell it’s not very clear in the manual, lol.

    Hey thanks! Great video... my problem is I don't understand midi setup to change channels through the Voodoo. I have the Voodoo for my Mesa but can't get it to change channels. I will not be using snapshots, just presets. Can you explain the procedure that is done on the HX? And I know you have to do something on the Voodoo to save. I don't see any videos like it anywhere and yours is the closest. Thanks!

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey IKGean,
      I use my voodoo lab switcher in a really simple way... I only use 4 presets on the voodoo labs switcher and then choose the channel for the switcher in the hx via midi program changes.
      To save a patch on the voodoo labs switcher you select the buttons by physically pushing them. Once you have the channel chosen you press and hold the 2 outside buttons on the Amp switcher to save your setting.
      You should definitely Download the manual for the voodoo labs switcher as it requires you to do some special bootup procedures in order to choose a midi channel and there are several different implementations of the switcher to get it set up for the Mesa Boogie switching method. Once you have the amp switcher formatted for mesa boogie and have the cables connected, then follow the instructions in this video. 👍🏽

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just a heads up that presets will have a 1/2 second of silence while switching between patches, while using snapshots is instantaneous.
      Either way, all you need to do is choose a saved amp switcher preset in the midi program changes menu and save. When you use snapshots you can also change channel settings on a snapshot by snapshot basis, simply go in to each snapshot and select your choice of channel settings, then choose the first patch you will use when you’re on the preset, then hit save

    • @lkgean
      @lkgean 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man, just got it to work... the o ky other issues I have is when I programmed 4 to activate the solo option, it jumps to channel 1 and channels 2 and 3 have no crunch or distortion when I use a switcher. Works fine with the original footswitch.... time to take this MkV beast in to get it looked at.

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Tyler,
      The EVH 5150 iii has midi switching.
      You need to do a couple steps:
      1. Choose a midi channel for your amp switching. (Should be in the manual)
      2. In your presets on your HXFX consistently dedicate the same instant switch to send program change messages to that midi channel. (This is not a global setting)
      3. Set your HX device to discard changes so that it only saves when you hit Save.
      For each snapshot go in and choose the program number that corresponds to the channel setting you want. Hit save.
      Hope that helps, it takes a while but it’s great to be able to have instant switching that you get with Snaps rather than the 2 second dropouts from changing presets only.
      🤘🏽😁

      Same lightning bolt (that’s the instant message), now you’re going to change the message that you’re sending. Depending on the way the 5150 does switching it will most likely be a cc number. What ever message you’ve sent, now you simply change the cc number to match the desired channel on each snapshot. To do this you will be moving between snapshots to the command centre to adjust the cc number for each individual snapshot.

    • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey JB,
      on every patch you need to dedicate an instant message to control the Voodoo lab control switcher. I describe this in the video, but will break it down for you here...
      In the control settings you use an instant message and set it to the midi channel of the control switcher, on my setup I use midi channel 1. on the HX effects I set midi channel 1 under the midi PC setting, and to change channels scroll over to page 2 and set the patch number for which channel you want each of your snapshots and or programs to be. You also need to program the Voodoo labs control switcher by matching the midi channel of the HX as well as program each of your patches.
      SO, when you bring up patch #2 for instance you can set the Control switcher to be Channel 2 on the Laney. you program the Control switcher by setting each of the 4 buttons then push and hold the 2 outside buttons on the control switcher.
      the HX will allow you to set different settings for each snapshot if you use snapshot mode.
      hope that helps ! Jacob / Quickness

    Hi! Could you help me with a question about Midi? I own both a HX Stomp and a HX Effects. I connected the MIDI OUT from the Effects into the MIDI IN in the Stomp. Connected like this, every time I change a preset in the Effects (from 1A to 1B, for example), a similar change occurs immediately in the Stomp (from 1A to 1B). In short, presets are chaging together, and that is exactly what I want. However, what I want to do and couldn't is the following: when I activate Snapshot 2 in the Effects, it also activates immediately Snapshot 2 in the Stomp. Does anyone know how to set this on the Midi settings? I've already read both manuals and have no idea how to make this happen. Thanks a lot! Best.

      Hey Jan Luiz, unfortunately I don’t personally own an HX Stomp so I’m not sure how to implement this, however, the devices do slave together if they are set to midi channel 1 and the HX Stomp is set to receive midi messages and commands. I hope that helps. If I get a chance to audition this set up in yhe future I will post a response video for you. All this being said, if you really dig the sound of both the stomp and the hxfx together, I think the full helix is an absolutely badass rig. I ran one for a couple of weeks and really love all the integration that is possible, but ultimately only really liked the sound of the matchless amp sim with 2 IRs per side, so I have been running the strymon iridium since February this year (Its dope as hell)

So now I can go completely amp-less for travel gigs or lower volume gigs and still run stereo, it sounds awesome on in ears and lets me do fender vox marshall. • @Quicknessband
      @Quicknessband  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey James, yes hxfx displays the name of the preset while scrolling, and the names of the snaps when selected. but it really depends what mode you are using. In snapshot mode (recommended) you can move in banks of 4 and each of the 4 programs displays a name for the patch. When you open the patch you see 4 snapshots in various states using the selected effects and midi messages for that program. The thing that is really great about this unit is that you can program the HX Effects for several different systems all on one device and have completely different settings on a given patch. I have a strymon Iridium rig now using this board with programs 40-60 as well as using programs 1-39 for my amps.
      If you want a large screen that names the patch, the Voodoo labs ground control is awesome for that and gives you a huge screen, but of course it has no effects, it’s simply a controller. The HX effects is designed in a way the you would need to scroll in banks of 4.

      I have the switching Jacks on the HX Effects controlling the Bogner via Instant commands.
      I have the Voodoo labs controlling the Mesa Boogie dual rectifier via the 1/4” jacks on the back of the Dual rec, the control switcher is doing switching via midi program changes through the HX effects. I am using snapshots to control the whole system, which allows me to do instant switching for any of the three channels plus the solo boost.
      I typically set up the programs with a clean patch, a mild overdrive program a high gain sound and a solo sound. Each snapshot allows me to recall any patch from the strymon devices and choose any of the channel settings on each amp.
