    A good argument towards the end there regards exploration. Yes, we do want to encourage players to stay on the ocean as much as possible.

    it makes sense for us to only be able to explore coastal towns and villages and settlements because if there were big expanses of land for us to set foot on then what would we need to explore it? a horse would be the only way and we all know pirates don't ride horses, people would complain about that too much lmao pirates are people of the sea not land hahaha

    Pirates historically spent over 70-80% of their life out on the sea 🌊
    If you read about how ships evolved and morphed into these beautifully crafted behemoths of wood and cast iron vessels to accommodate whole crew members and teams you’d understand why Ubisoft is doing this approach!
    If you look at most pirate games out there currently on the market (most not all) they all share a limit in on land exploration. And it’s interesting because these developers and game companies don’t just make a game about being a pirate. There’s millions of hours of research collectively from there employees that constitutes knowledge to make decisions as to what a pirates life was and is especially within a gaming experience.
    So people moaning about how it’s potentially going to be more on sea than anything else? THATS HOW IT SHOULD BE AS THATS WHAT THE WORLD OF PIRACY WAS AND IS ALL ABOUT !!!!
    Sure going to land and pillaging along with fighting for terrain is good! But pirates homes was there ships. It’s why we owe them a whole universe as they gave us the glamorously detailed ship builds that existed over time because their crew were their family and they died protecting their vessels!
    They didn’t need lands and expenditure to progress! They dominated the seas and took what they wanted from the house that was able to sail on the water!
    So everyone complaining about it’s only on sea mostly! That’s how it is supposed to be! And I can’t wait for this game it’s actually going to be incredible ❤❤❤❤

    Hey nice vid! Although it seems your math equasion on map size might be a bit off. A while back the fastest ship we saw went about 15 knots and it calculated the map would be about 25x25 kilometres. Converting the 15 knots to 30 kph it would take roughly *50 minutes* to cross horizontally and it being more then an hour diagonally. We got the 25x25 km map from it being told in the first "new" gameplay stream that the map would reach from Africa all the way to Singapore. Anyway I'm glad this you're making videos about this game, hope you have a fun time!

    • @strongjonsilver
      @strongjonsilver ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's 1knot = 2m/s, not 2kph. You can pick the rate up on the two Deck streams - the best one is Joel's Barge on Jan 2023 deck at around 24:00 on the Twitch VOD who is sailing at 9 knots and clears ~18metres each second. Thus at 10 knots = 25000/((2*10)*60) = 20.83333 minutes.

    • @Danger_StrangerS
      @Danger_StrangerS ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@strongjonsilver 1 knot is 1.85 kph (or 0.5 m/s) according to multiple sources on google, let me know if you can prove me wrong though.

    • @strongjonsilver
      @strongjonsilver ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Danger_StrangerS - it's not the real-life calculation; the game approximates 1 knot to 2 metres/s. So we're both right! :) (and I secretly wish it was the RL value, coz sailing is too fast)

    I wonder if in future DLC will have a kraken world boss that appears sometime on the map for the players to hunt, or if the game will only be realistic. But a kraken world boss sounds fun🙂

    How does the idea of being able to explore and fight on land "not fit" in skull and bones? They literally already achieved that with Black Flag and AC Odyssey. Get outta here lol

    • @TheBlackSpot1
      @TheBlackSpot1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because both Black Flag and Odyssey are single-player games, it works great.
      The server cap is 20 in Skull and Bones, and the map is already giant. Being able to explore every piece of land would make the chance of bumping into another player extremely low, and besides, the fun is on the ocean - Protide

      Im pretty sure Ubisoft was tryna make a boat game but everyone wanted a pirate game, so yea

  • @Verystoic
    @Verystoic ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Nope, im not buying that excuse for no land combat or detailed on-foot gameplay. When someone asks you to make a pirate game if you think we mean just piloting a ship all day then im going to ask you if you even know what piracy is about, or if you've ever even watched a potc film at the very least if nothing else. The game has been through development hell and we know ubisoft has people upstairs who just want to make a cash grab game, its painfully obvious, dont make excuses for them this is nonsense.
    If the land is overwhelmingly large THATS A GOOD THING, THATS EXACTLY what some of us want, its called adventure, i can see how that COULD become a problem in formula but those types of things can be carefully tempered if need be, but not having it at all, not even bothering is lazy and an obvious sign that whoever decided this is what we wanted, has no damn clue what makes a good pirate game, every old pirate mmo ive ever played or brushed over desperately looking for one in the past has done land exploration, combat and progression to some extent, this game expects me to believe we're spending all our time on the ship? Yes the ship is an important part of the piracy, it is probably the bread and butter but thats like me serving you a burger without the fries when you're looking forward to a full meal.
    Really and truly dude dont waste your time trying to justify shit game design, because that aspect that we have an issue with is just one of the many red flags that this game has been criticized for, the only one i'll pardon is the graphics because it does actually look acceptable, not mind blowing but i wouldnt expect it to given that again, this game has been in development hell and for all the worst reasons. But Land exploration should literally go without saying, especially when they advertise the game the way they do, half these cinematics show the character on land and going through shit that seems like it'd be a nice campaign both on and off the ship, but all we get is a glorified mobile game formula with a bunch of customization that we can be certain is their way of heavily monetizing the game and milking it for what little its worth.
    No one criticizing the lack of land content should be expected to settle for this especially as a full priced game when this is the same corporation that pushed out black flag, there's no damn way you can make that game and think "expand on the ship stuff for multiplayer pirate fantasies" translates to "make a game about just naval combat". Did why we loved black flag somehow get mixed up as a message in their heads or did they hire the wrong people.
    And remember, these are the same people who thought they could slide it under our nose when they sat on a ship "cutting down trees"......Are you kidding me? now THATS mobile game bullshit, miss me with that sorry.

      Man its good that noone forces you to buy the game because you are clearly not the target audiance.
      Maybe its time for you to accept that not every game is made for YOUR liking in particular. Just because you want huge Landmasses, doesnt mean everyone else wants that.
      Land exploration should not go without saying. That is just your Headcannon, your Fantasythinking. If you know what all the players want, why are you not sitting at a big desk, creating the world and game that everyone wants. Apperently it must be really easy for you.
      If you dont like the game, simply dont play it. And dont start bullshit because other people enjoy different things than you.

      Did you use ChatGPT to "write a negative review on Skull & Bones" coz this looks like a copy/paste of every other negative response I see on this game. Or is it the case that you do actually care enough about the game to string together rage filled sentences and edit yourself. Seems a bit odd to take that much time to say the long version of "Nah mate, pass". But let's work through this.. Black Flag was made by Ubisoft Montreal, this is made by Ubisoft Singapore... different studio, different game. Land combat - go look up the definition of the noun Pirate... I'll wait... ok, Land combat - two things, when was the last time you did any meaningful land combat in a MULTIPLAYER pirate game. (2) on a 20 player server, if you take 2 people (or more) out of the equation on a 625 sq km map that covers all of the Indian Ocean... what would that do to PvP Sea Combat? The design decision to not do Land Combat (yet) is clearly to force combat on the seas... you know to be a Pirate "A Person who attacks and robs AT SEA."... There are plenty of places to get off the ship and interact with other Captains - notably Pirate Dens (at least two) and outposts (last count was over a dozen) - if every captain got off their ship and explored a larger land section at each one of those outposts... then there'd be no players on the sea. BTW each of which has their own look and feel, which is worth exploring on its own. Could duelling at Dens/Outposts be a thing? Probably, they're using the Anvil engine, the same engine that powers other open world Ubi games... do I want them to put land combat in over the Naval aspects? Absolutely not, let's get the Pirate bit (you know, the attacking and robbing at sea) right first. The other points just show that you don't know enough about the game other than to copy/paste someone else's opinion. Also Black Flag is a single player game less than a quarter of the size of this game, a multiplayer game with design choices and balance choice made for a pretty big world. THIS IS NOT BLACK FLAG 2 - get over it. Don't like it... there's the door, see yourself out.

      i agree, after black flag, you know, the very REASON Skull & Bones was even put into development into the first place, we saw a pirate game needed a lot of elements to be a well rounded RPG. Land exploration, stealth, hunting resources, underwater exploration, different environments and terrains to discover, a great story and fleshed out characters, at this point, anything that doesn't incorporate those elements that made Black Flag a LOT of people's fave AC entry will just make it fall flat in comparison. Why play repetitive naval combat and get bored after a few days when you could just go back and play black flag over and over because it had so many great elements to it? I totally get your point. Skull and Bones was a total cash grab when they started development and even after all these delays and extra work, i'm still hella skeptical!
