    Region is useful for guild stuff. Every system in a region will have the same guild posted up in their space station. So let's say you're at exalted with the Merchants Guild, and you want some sweet sweet salvaged frigate modules-hit up the station in your current system; if there's a Merchants guild rep, but they're giving out cargo bulkheads, you know to check another system in the same region; if it's another guild, you know to jump to another region instead.

    I didn't know that "farming" inverters, etc on dissonant planets in a PIRATE system I would not have to fight sentinels. Thank you! That will speed up getting echo locators and inverters to find more sentinel ships. Ah. Will be having a fun busy day today in No Man's Sky.

    Google "stellar classification" and take a look at the Wikipedia entry for it - it will happily tell you that the number listed in the star system nomenclature is the heat from 0=hottest to 9=coolest, along with spectral peculiarities such as f, pf etc. Sol (where we exist) is classified as a G2V system for example.

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Thanks for responding. I answered to another viewer also that we don't know for sure that HG used the exact same specification. For example, there's no star with V in NMS. Further, while p simply means some peculiarity, f denotes N III and He II emission lines. But there's no spectrometer in-game so what's the point?

      @@goodguysfree We know for a FACT they do NOT follow it identically. There's too many systems found that don't follow that map to even imply HG follows it to the letter. As far as missing letters go that's pretty normal for a number of reasons, 1. removing it makes generating rules less strict thus allowing for more freaky stuff, 2. makes it easier for the player. Having some of them is there as not only flavor but to add some amount of realism to the game so yes we have no spectrometer it's there for that...and you have those gas extractors which vary...based on that f identifier to a degree; but again there are systems that don't follow our rules which the wiki unless it has recently changed IS stated as such. I make pages on there regularly, and that's what my play of the game has become. Documentation and wiki additions.

    This was great! I appreciate the explanation about the numbers/letters that describe a system type. I knew they described something but couldn’t remember what. This will be helpful at teleporters too, when I want to get to a system of a certain color. The teleporter doesn’t mention the system color directly, but the destination will display that alphanumeric code.
    Anyway, that was just my favorite part. Good guide in general, as expected. 👍

    For mech pets, You can check the bait from your freighter when you scan system. No need to look at each planet or go there. Once you DO see batteries as bait, THEN look at what planet has SYNTHETIC fauna. Between world and other unusual descriptions gives you like the shaken zappy thing, rotating balls thing, floating rotating crystals, etc.
    I had a system with 3 planets with mechs, 3 with furnishing thingies. But, I've been galaxy hopping, going a few thousand ly hops in, then heading to core. Heading to next Lush galaxy, Isdorijung.

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I read your comment and went like "what? how did I miss that?" and of course I went to check... I couldn't replicate this.
      In fact, I warped the freighter to a system and checked and saw pellets. Then I activated the scanner, and found 2 planets with Synthetic fauna.
      But this means you were RIGHT about the fact that we don't need to leave the freighter. Using the scanner you can see the type of fauna, and it says clearly - Synthetic on such planets.
      When I came back from such a planet to the freighter, I opened the bait again - and guess what? It was Ion Batteries... So I am thinking I'll make a short and thank you for this insight. Please comment if you prefer I didn't mention your name.

    The small “f”you mentioned means N III and He II emissions - the spectral lines. It’s actually in the article you linked to.

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That's easy enough, and of course I saw the same, but this relates to real world stars. Do you have spectrometers in-game? We don't. So my research was trying to find what this f letter means in-game. What effect does it have in the game? Any star will fuse Hydrogen into Helium so Helium is present, sure. We can go on an off shoot here and try to describe what it means in RL when a star's chemistry generates emission lines from Nitrogen, but what's the effect on us players in-game?

    • @mecongberlin

      @@goodguysfree the only difference I found is the extractor, which is producing two elements in those systems, sulphide and nitrogen. But otherwise, not yet. land still "regenerates" inside if you've built in a region that had dirt. It's a good way to keep massive terraforming from distorting the landscape to a breaking point, though in practice I can't see that being done and even so, it isn't like we wouldn't have enough new planets to go to :P but one way to really keep land from coming back is to use the _foundations_ from the Build menu, upon which you can place modular domes but also any other part... then try to hide the foundation with parts if you want.

      Want to speculate why that is? I think I know...

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I won't keep you waiting... Here's what I think is happening:
      Bases that you see on your teleporter list, and which belong to other players are only valid for some time while that player and you are in the same multiplayer "lobby". This means, for example, of you are both on the anomaly together.
      While there, the game holds a copy of their locations in server memory. When you try to teleport there, the game has to bring the base content into your platform's memory, and if the player has left the game, there's no way to do this. Similarly, if the game reassigned you to 2 different multiplayer lobbies, it might be unable to bring the data. Your platform is showing the base names and information because the server sent that information at some point in the past, but your platform is unaware that the server can no longer bring in the data, so when you try, you see "Downloading Data". And maybe it'll work at dinner point...

    Hi. PC Newbie here, few question:
    1. How to SMOOTHLY use the galaxy map? Its so weird that I felt uncomfortable while in the galaxy map. Anyone knows how to get that?
    2. How deep Can I dig inside a planet? Can i dig to the core?
    3. Is every cave in the mountain worthless to explore? Since every one of them I explore were so small

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      1. Explain "SMOOTHLY" - what are you expecting? You can right-click to get into "Free-look" mode, and that allows you to look in every direction, and use WASD keys to move. Then you can press Backspace to return to your current location.
      2. In some places you can dig a bit, but not to the core. This isn't Astroneer ;-) At somepoint you will reach a layer you cannot penetrate. Kind of "bedrock" layer.
      3. There are some cave systems that are huge, sprawling, so big you can lose your way. This is what prompted tip #2 in this video: th-cam.com/video/zO-EI2D1zB4/w-d-xo.html - starting at ~ 1:45 into the video.

    • @premiumderanged
      @premiumderanged 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@goodguysfree thanks bro,
      1. The first ‘SMOOTHLY’ is the feeling when I open galaxy map and using mouse/keyboard. It was kind hard to me, to ‘control’ the galaxy map system. I mean, when I want to check the destination from a mission, yes, i can see the system highlighted, but hard to use mouse/keyboard to ‘PRECISELY’ locate it, I feel like I had to use mouse wheel to scroll up/down?
      What Im trying to say is, to PRECISELY and QUICKLY LOCATE any system within galaxy map. So I can have a SMOOTH experience while using galaxy map
      Edit:
      2. Yeah, thats what im talking about, thought was my mining laser not high level enough though :)
      3.It is, I set my base offshore on a planet called, ‘aerth’, or ‘arth’? A name mentioned in some NMS Video, just forgot it and couldnt spell it out :), and i just found one of its cave system underwater really huge, I really dont care how huge a cave is once I have advanced mining tool ha, but for some reason, while I explore any cave on the mountain, its like, ahh, you can finish this cave within 30s. Not sure if this is common though
      Edit 2: the game I recalled while thinking about dig to the core actually is subnautica Hahaaa, lava, darkness, mystery, alien, its so cool! But I did play Astroneer many times, Astroneer is, indeed another awesome game, why not dev fulfill the underground/cave/underwater/ocean system? Can u imagine how cool that is?

    • @goodguysfree
      @goodguysfree  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      First, sorry for taking so long to respond. Somehow your comment went into "blocked' due to some blocked words (for the life of me I don't know which words did this).
      So, basically, yes - the galaxy map is a bit hard to control at first. Pointing in some direction selects a star and if you hold the interaction key (left-mouse or A on Xbox controller) the map will refocus on the selected star, etc. Pessing Backspace returns you to your current location.
      The concept of having a smooth experience, or smoothly finding whatever you want in the galaxy map - that doesn't exist because the map is designed to make you feel that the Universe is huge. To find materials, you go to your catalog page, find the material you want, and use "Locate Substance". If there isn't such in the current system, it will tell you to go to the galaxy map, and when you do - you'll see a marker for the material you wanted, and it'll be easy to "find".
      Mountain caves are usually not very deep, this is true. But caves at the foothills, or ones starting at the surface could be huge, just like the underwater one you mentioned.
      Why did HG not make better use of the ability to go deeper? We're all asking that question. Maybe the upcoming update will bring deeper oceans? See my latest video with speculation on this update - I hope it drops today!

    In discoveries there is a drop-down with all the planets you have been to, why can't one just click on one and warp to it using the same game mechanics? Unless you drop a base on each one you never see them again in the teleports, then you have millions of bases left all over. Or when you click on one it at least gives you a charted plot on the galaxy map.
