Most of them functioned accordingly actually. Riley just happened to land in the safe shallows where nothing could harm him. The two Alterra women were fine as well, but one of the exploded the thing.
You had one land too close to reaper territory a couple which worked but the crew couldn’t respawn after encountering a reaper on the way to the ship. One was destroyed on impact. One had crew members accidentally detonate the fuel lines. I think a couple saved the crew members but they couldn’t swim fast enough. Makes you wonder how many unfortunate ships were shot down by the weapon, sinking into the deep abyss below, without ever giving their potential survivors a chance to leave their marks on the planet. The Aurora and the Degasi got "lucky" by crashing into the crater, but Sunbeam aside, they can't have been the only ones to trigger the weapon in all this time!
actually, it is now known that the mercury II got ALMOST shot once, but the captain managed to manuever the ship away from the beam by tricking it, but when it landed and decided to leave after a bit, it got shot down the second time.
Hoping Subnautica 3 (if it does happen) has much more to do with the void. Really cool ideas including Soundwaves. Bigger horror aspect would be awesome!
Finding essential blueprints would happen a lot faster if Aurora had just missed the crater. Riley and the other survivors would immediately have access to Bart Torgal's final base (seen in the trailer) which was obliterated (along with the surrounding safe-shallows) by the Aurora crash. You would have a relatively intact starting base within the Safe shallows, plus you would also have earlier forewarning of kharaa from any notes Bart left behind.
If the aurora crashed in the void they still couldn't do something with the base because when the aurora arrived the base was abandoned because paul died
@@asterios_kyp8128 In the cinematic trailer, you can see that unlike the other degasi bases, the safe shallows one still has its hull intact. Maybe a few renovations here and there and it can be good as new
If the Aurora fell into the Abyss it's highly likely that it's radio signals may incur interference or worse sustain crushing damage from the extreme pressures and cease to function, preventing any sustained distress signal or live trackable location meaning the sunbeam would never even know the Aurora was there on top of that Alterra may never find it and subsequently 4546-B. Something to think about I guess.
There's a cloud of Aurora debris in orbit around 4546B, so eventually somebody would probably have noticed. Maybe not until long after Ryley is dead and his habitats are just another bunch of ruined bases to poke around in, though.
I read the Aurora’s mission log and it said that there were 25 life pods launched. We only hear from 9 of them, so the rest are either in the void, or eaten by some big creature. But if the Aurora landed in the void, even more of the life pods would go into the void, thus making it harder for the player to survive considering many valuable objects are found near or inside the life pods. Edit: Jeez! I never knew we only heard from 9 of the 25 life pods! So that means only 10 of the life pods made it, including ours. We are very lucky!
You mentioned that most of the important blueprints can be obtained without entering the aurora. But if the aurora lands in the void instead, the debris wouldn't have been flung as it was, and it's likely the debris (and blue prints) would be resting closer to the aurora at the bottom of the void
I think that a lot of debris fell on crater before the explosion, basically when Aurora still was on orbit so I think that we will still be available to to get them
Ryley: (using Seaglider) HANG ON EVERYONE! I’M COMING TO THE RESCUE! PDA: Entering ecological dead zone. Chances of survival are decreased immediately to zero. Ryley: Wait-wait-wait, did you just say dead zone? PDA: Affirmative. Ryley: Well, what’s down there? PDA: An eternal abyss of darkness, leviathan-class creatures of the adult kind, and now, the Aurora Ryley: Can’t say I didn’t try (swims away quickly)
I would have been terrief at the first sentence by the PDA and would possibly trying to go away from the void while it talks about the void. After it finishes, I would definitely be determine to never go there. Imagine getting the message that something eat the Aurora.
I just want to talk about this here. when I was younger, going in the water ALWAYS scared me, even if it was relatively shallow. I didn't like the fact that the lower half of my body was unseen, and I thought something was watching me. Subnautica brought that fear back :)
3:00 Even without vehicles, you can still craft tons of oxygen tanks and swap them in-between: you can go from sea level below the blood kelp trench to the alien thermal plant with 4 high-capacity tanks, sea glide, fins and rebreather
I feel like if the main character was committed enough he could eventually reach where he needs to be in the deep zone with a combo of airpumps, supplies, stasis riffle, and flares, or other distracting sorts, given enough time and patience I believe it'd be possible to make it to the ship, but incredibly deadly
Korporal K. Reep it’s already is and you want to 💩 yourself go under the map it’s creepy creative needed of course (TH-cam censors p-o-o-$ at least last I checked :/.....)
You’d have a much more difficult time finding your way around. I found myself constantly finding everything by my positioning to the Aurora. Especially the islands. I feel like without the Aurora I’d probably wander into the void thinking I was headed towards an island. Especially before getting a compass.
I really dig this idea. The only thing I would want out of this is, instead of crashing straight into the void, it comes to a stop right on the edge. As you mention crashing in much deeper water it would be "more" intact than where it currently crashes, and instead of it just exploding it tips over the edge and is gone forever. This way, you have time to gather everything from it and nothing really changes gameplay wise too much. Only difference would be a new Biome opening up, or more expanded ones ( I think the crash zone is just more safe shallows that lead into dunes). It would be a neat little twist.

You have to keep in mind that Alterra finds out about what happened because Riley made it back himself, if he didn't go back himself its likely that Alterra wouldn't risk a 4th ship and entire crew for this planet
@@TheLastBacon not to mention that this is Alterra we're talking about here. They don't care about human lives. They'd send a dingy old ship that was about to fall apart anyway with a full crew. If they wanna get back, they rebuild the Aurora. If not, they die.
@@WanderingCow203 I didn't say "repair the Aurora" I said "rebuild the Aurora." They'd send 3/4 of the parts needed to build a new ship and rip apart what's left of the Aurora for the rest. Feed the reapers, save a few bucks on parts, it's just like Alterra to pull something like that
A little resolution to this What if: In Below Zero we learn from a log (or more some sort of a news-letter), that the Sunbeam sended a transmission to Alterra regarding the emergency signal of the Aurora and their position, before their rescue attempt. Although it would have taken 6 months from the nearest position to get there, Alterra actually was preparing a mission to 4546b to salvage the Aurora if possible, rescue possible survivors, if the Sunbeam with their little ship and ressources couldnt help as much as they wanted to, and of course overtake all value discoveries from the planet, before anyone else could (which soothed the paniced investors for the lost ship and made them actually even happy for the dicovery of the promising new world 4546b, which ultimately lead to Below Zero, even if Ryley didnt get to building his rescue rocket).

@@GrippyMiss Well no, i believe Alexcorous is talking about the "Gargantuan Fossil Leviathan" which IS infact the biggest leviathan of subnautica, and one which was dead for a while now.

Deep sea vessel: Nice idea: giant submarine base Average idea: a prawn suit with more armor Horror aspect to 100: a suit reminiscent of those armored diving suits which stops you from swimming and slows you down and limits your vision and has headlamps in murky water while you hear leviathans swimming around as you hide in cracks to save yourself
Another point to support Ryley being able to get off 4546b is that it might not even be Alterra ships that eventually comes to pick him up. Some other smaller vessels passing close by the system could pick up the Aurora’s distress beacon like the Sunbeam did, or Alterra may even contract some of these smaller vessels to investigate the Aurora’s last known position, resulting in them eventually landing on the planet and rescuing Ryley.
@@TheLastBacon That's true. We get a message saying that the rocket is on the Aurora from Altera itself, but the message is still garbled and barely recieved on out end. In theory, the Aurora going down several thousand meters whilst being chased by ghost leviathans would probably lose radio contact in a few hours, if not minutes.
I think it would be really cool if it was still accessible in the void, but you would have to wait until you got the Cyclops Depth Module MK3. Then it could be more of an endgame thing to go down and get the Neptune blueprints.
The void is just like the deep ocean on Earth, with the crater being an anomaly. What I’m trying to say is that the Titanic sank into ‘the void’ so you could think of it like that + leviathans.

What about the aurora's drive core exploding? If it's in the void and ryley can't reach it then he can't fix it and I'm pretty sure the PDA says that the radiation from the explosion would wipe out life on planet 4546B
@@travocat9700 Ocean type planets usually have a very very deep ocean. Like all the way to the core there is a water in different conditions mixed up with some magma.
Haha probably a lifepod 6 scenario. Ryley does everything cus the other person is too terrified to exit the pod, and then when he gets back with supplies, the other person does something to get them both killed lol
Assuming the Aurora is extremely heavy and that in the game the ship is only visible due to the surface height, it would most likely sink, although, either the very tip will be visible or you won’t have to go as far down to find it.
Another thing to consider, when the ships reactor explodes (which would probably still happen in this version of events), she is leaking radiation and radioactive material into the ocean. Without the player character to repair the reactor, The wreck of the Aurora could’ve become just as big a plague on the planets environment is the actual plague we become infected with in game. I don’t know if this would change the outcome of events, but it’s something to add.
Ryley and the crew would've died, no matter what as their isn't very many pieces of food Edit: I am meaning this by saying that the only macro animal known to live their is the ghost leviathan and that he should've landed fairly near the aurora and plus there is a very low chance that he comes across the area that the main game takes place in as he needs to choose the exact direction. There is also another variable in this, though, exactly how far from the area was ryley in the theory?

Fun fact: i was playing subnautica with my 18 year old sister at the time (I was like 10) and we went to the aurora. And then out of nowhere, we get jumpscared by a reaper, and I nearly get a heart attack. But it was not the reaper that scared me, it was my sister's UNHOLY SCREECHING.
Cool vid. Some things I also thought were worth noting. 1: the captains assistant and many of the crew members would be safe. The reapers surrounding the crash zone would likely not be there, and from what the PDAs tell us, one lifepod was taken out and was killed by a reaper, and the captains assistant as well as the lady who landed in the blood kelp zone were also killed by the crash zone reaper after they decided to go to the aurora after no one met up on the randesvous point (the floating island). Likely, Rylee would have been able to acquire a sea moth and further, likely have been able to meet about 3 people on the island in order to survive together. They likely would have had a better time on the planet, however, their inability to access the aurora would mean that they almost 100% couldn’t get to the sea emperor to cure kharaar (and thus would die from infection). Also, I’m pretty sure Marguerite is from the first game, and she was now in below zero. Law suggests that she stayed afloat on a leviathans back in the void in order to float over to the arctic area (which is badass) but her ability to have been in below zero would have been up to question, and the kharars impact may have stopped below zero from happening as a whole.
Very good point :) I wonder how more people surviving would change the game since their PDAs might not have been damaged and thus, they might already have a BP for something that could get them off the planet!
DUDDDEEEEEEEEE this was requested by me OMG :) i remember commenting on your video about a mod that shows this topic, cuz i watched an IGP video about it :) so glad you made this video OMG THX
It is totally possible that Riley wouldn't be alone and some people would have survived because: -Lifepod 4 wouldn't have been flipped over by the reapers and wouldn't die of radiation or reaper leviathans because the Crash Zone doesn't exit anymore, meaning he could have made it to the rendezvou; -Second Officer Keen and CTO Yu wouldn't have tried to repair the Aurora's long range comms and thus CTO Yu wouldn't have died to the Reaper Leviathan and Keen wouldn't have been killed by a Warper.
I’d say the main problem is the fact that Riley wouldn’t be able to fix the reactor in the aurora, which was stated that if not taken care of would cause an EXTINCTION EVENT.
@@TheLastBacon well an extinction event implies it’ll wipe out all life on the planet from its current position, and I think it’ll at the very least wipe out everything from the first game.
A personal thought is that reapers are attracted to sound and these pods landing are really loud so the got taken down while we were KOed and a swarm of reapers and warmers swam through everywhere they could attracted by the noise.

Oh yeah that is a very good point about the base! Totally forgot about that :)
(supposedly)
also sorry for necromancing but i had to say it
you would also never get off the planet, the rocket blueprints are in the aurora
It’s definitely possible :) That would make any potential escape much harder.

Yeah that's definitely true :) .....some blueprints could be much harder to come by.

You mentioned that most of the important blueprints can be obtained without entering the aurora. But if the aurora lands in the void instead, the debris wouldn't have been flung as it was, and it's likely the debris (and blue prints) would be resting closer to the aurora at the bottom of the void
Yeah totally - hence the pinned comment :) Otherwise Ryley would be screwed.
I think that a lot of debris fell on crater before the explosion, basically when Aurora still was on orbit so I think that we will still be available to to get them

Very good point :) I wonder how more people surviving would change the game since their PDAs might not have been damaged and thus, they might already have a BP for something that could get them off the planet!

i remember igp doing this about a year ago, im glad someone else is revisitting this in more depth (pun intended)
Haha yeah he went for it a lot more literally :)
DUDDDEEEEEEEEE this was requested by me OMG :)
i remember commenting on your video about a mod that shows this topic, cuz i watched an IGP video about it :) so glad you made this video OMG THX
Thank you for the suggestion :) though I tried to take more of a theory approach here!
@@TheLastBacon yeah :)
It is totally possible that Riley wouldn't be alone and some people would have survived because:
-Lifepod 4 wouldn't have been flipped over by the reapers and wouldn't die of radiation or reaper leviathans because the Crash Zone doesn't exit anymore, meaning he could have made it to the rendezvou;
-Second Officer Keen and CTO Yu wouldn't have tried to repair the Aurora's long range comms and thus CTO Yu wouldn't have died to the Reaper Leviathan and Keen wouldn't have been killed by a Warper.
Yeah that’s a very fair point :)
Me: Okay, this video looks like a good one to watch.
My Brain: please don't.
Thalassophobia: allow me to introduce myself.
Yeah with that phobia it might not be the best idea :)
That frame with the reaper's tail going over the lifepod was so cool
Yeah it worked out really nicely :)
I’d say the main problem is the fact that Riley wouldn’t be able to fix the reactor in the aurora, which was stated that if not taken care of would cause an EXTINCTION EVENT.
Yeah but I’m not sure if it would still be that bad from the bottom of the void :)
@@TheLastBacon well an extinction event implies it’ll wipe out all life on the planet from its current position, and I think it’ll at the very least wipe out everything from the first game. Which would likely lead to the second game probably never even happening. Also thank you for replying to so many comments, that’s very cool of you to interact with your community so closely.
i really like it that youre answering almost every comment:)
I really enjoy it too :)
