Peakes are even more awesome than I realized. Like they killed a monarch and just kept going? Shit if ASoIaF is really a critique of monarchy than they're one of the only truly based houses XD
Peake rebellion was more effective than all the Blackfyre rebellions combined. Killed a King, the Lord of Casterly Rock and the Lord of Castamere. Also don’t know if it’s brought up enough, but stealing Orphan Maker from house Roxton was probably one of the most scummy things you could do. The Roxtons are a fairly small house with their only real claim to fame being that sword and the man just pulls finders keepers instead of just returning the sword following Jon Roxton’s death.
Hell say what you want, but even most of the other "evil" houses have a more sympathetic history. House Frey might have come from exploiting their bridge, but really it was a smart move and they didn't go full bastard mode until Walder came around. The Lannisters have their ups and downs for sure, but really its mostly Tywin and Cersei that stick out as the main antagonistic forces. Boltons are....ok yeah can't really defend those guys. Brackens definitely have their fair share of shitty actions themselves, but honestly they seem pretty reasonable as long as you keep them away from the Blackwoods. Plus, their whole feude is so ambiguous in origin that they may have been in the right at one point, even if we're generally lead to sympathize with the Blackwoods more often than not.
@@matztz_4560 I mean aside from the fact that iron island culture is kind of terrible on a fundamental level, I looked into the Hoares and they too are a surprisingly diverse bunch in terms of evilness. There were at least two periods in history when the Hoares are surprisingly liberal in their approach, aiming for trade, cooperation with the mainland and discouraging or even outlawing the old way, adopting the faith of the seven either wholly or in part and gaining the support of the westerlands in one instance. Obviously that didn't last, one line of "good" Hoares was overthrown by a much more antagonistic member of the family and then there's obviously the three that ruled the Riverlands (which also followed a period of much more peaceful iron island rulers). It's similar for the Greyjoys. Admittedly I could find fewer examples of good Greyjoys, but theres a few examples still of them trying to be more closely tied to the mainland and even letting the faith of the seven back (which didn't last long). Hell, Quellon Greyjoy, Theon's grandfather, tried to reform the islands to be much more peaceful and to get rid of the old way, only to be survived by three sons that couldn't care less for his plans.
And to be honest, House Frey taxing the bridge is just the equivalent of every other house that taxes the smallfolk living on their land. At least in their case, there was no bridge there before (as far as we know), so it's a convenient service that they're charging extra for.
@QuinnTheGM thats just not true. Literally the opposite. He goes out of his way to show there's good and bad on both sides. Even portrays Eddard as a fool with the way characters like Jorah talk about him. Hell Jaimes whole character is a testament to this. Pretty much every conflict in the book he makes it somewhat ambiguous on who was in the right because it is totally subjective. Even when there is a clear cut "villain" there's always a few characters on their side who are somewhat good natured and just there due to circumstance. He even tries to makes us sympathize with the odd Frey.
House Peake. Rebelled against the Targaryens. Maekar died along with a few Lannisters. Indirectly leading to Tytos becoming Lord of Casterly Rock because his older brother, Tywins uncle, died at Starpeak with the King.
Whenever I would play CK2 I loved to play as the Gardeners right before Aegon’s conquest. They are primed to have their heir marry a Peake girl and I always maintained that connection in my role play… though i would also eventually recruit a Manderly to come down and take back Dunstonbury too of course.
2:50 this is one of the reasons i absolutely love ASOIAF lore. I was looking over the map a few weeks ago (i was on book 5 and wanted to get a better look at the geography of dorn and highgarden). I was on the chapter where Stannis was mocking the fact lord Manderly was too fat to ride a horse, and just read the chapter Davos had jested that despite Manderly being fat he was still busy building Galleys. Lots of mention of Manderly...and then i see the river Mander in the reach. It clicked in my head and i was like "wait...this cant be a coincidence" and guess what? IT ISNT. ITS PART OF THE LORE. GRRM YOUVE DONE IT AGAIN. Every single detail is accounted for.
Unwin Peake was something else. If its ever revealed that he truly did assassinate Jaehaera, this guys gonna be metaphorically jumped by the fans with every power that Memes may grant That, and man was he a terrible Hand. Not a single positive thing that I can recall came out of this guy.
One of the best parts of Unwin’s tenure as Hand is that when trying to marry his daughter, Myrielle, to Aegon III, Aegon questioned wether or not he would like her. Unwin says something like “You don’t like turnips, but you still eat them when the cook prepares them.” So poor Myrielle Peake gets stuck with the nickname “Lady Turnips”
Hey Quinn since you are a fan of Barry I would love you do a thematic breakdown of the show such as how it portrays what happens when individuals perpetuate the cycle of violence! 🤓
I don't like the characterization of these houses as bad for advancing their house and family through any means necessary, just as everyone else is doing. They're just doing what's required of them. Really I'd like to hear the Brackens side of the story.
exactly. The whole basis of this video is just naive. It's from the pov of a Stark/ Targaryen loyalist and completly looks over the shitty things those two have done. The Starks have eradicated multiple houses in their quest to conquer the North. The Targaryens equally saw many houses go extinct. I mean, can anyone defend Aegon roasting the entire Gardener family out of existance as good? Or Hoares even? Everyone is looking out for themselves and stoop as low as needed in the situation and the moral grandstanding in this video just comes across as oblivious.

Unrelated, but I'd like to see covered topic of Targaryen marriages. What if they need to unite Westeros not only politically but also by blood? Obviously in Mad King and his descendants's blood there's blood of Baratheon, Arryn and Martell. Aegon V married with family from Riverlands if that counts. Jacerys failed to connect Fire with Ice (Stark), but it's likely Rhaegar succeeded. Tyrrell (or Hightower) and Lannister houses connected with the royal family, but their genes weren't passed on.
I certainly hope not. They're one of my favourite houses, especially in the CK2 mod. Also, calling the Peakes evil is cringe, naive and childish. There is no such thing as evil, just different pov.
I just recently played a bit of CK3 „A Game of Thrones“ and within just a few years, House Peake just took over from the Targaryens. They just somehow married into the line and became Kings of Westeros. Dragons and all.
You forgot to mention how before the Maiden's day ball (where it was to be decided who the next queen would be), some of Westeros most beautifull highborn young ladies suddenly started having acidents that either killed or crippled them, or suffered atacks that made then less beautifull( one of them was robbed and got her nose cut off in the woods) or had nasty rumous about them suddenly circulating everywhere. While his daughter was sent to King's Landing weeks to spend as much time as possible with the king make him like her more. And after a Velaryon girl was chosen he still tried to override the decision to make his own daughter queen but failed.

People think the *Blackfyres* are the evil side? Lmfao
Bloodraven's propaganda truly is insanely powerful
Peakes are even more awesome than I realized. Like they killed a monarch and just kept going? Shit if ASoIaF is really a critique of monarchy than they're one of the only truly based houses XD
Unwin threatening to abdicate the office of The Hand and the entire small council and the king accepting it without skipping a beat is *chefs kiss*
Am I evil for laughing at poor Roxtons....?
@jaqenhghar764 No, you are not. Bold Jon Roxton deserved such a thing considering what he did.
And the hoares? And greyjoys?
1:13 Your worn-down-from-teaching voice always makes my day, Quinn
This house is literally peak. Their sigil should be a troll face.
This is the ideal Westerosi noble house. You may not like it, but this is what Peake performance looks like.
Peake Performance
Yea
I mean being on the losing side of several wars does not make a house "evil" like you repeatedly say
Martin tends to view sides of certain conflicts as evil, and the Peakes are consistently on Martin’s least favorite side.
One of the best GOT channels I've been subscribed too. My favorite part is when Unwin Peaked all over himself
House Peake. Rebelled against the Targaryens. Maekar died along with a few Lannisters. Indirectly leading to Tytos becoming Lord of Casterly Rock because his older brother, Tywins uncle, died at Starpeak with the King.
Based
So we should thank the Peake for the existence of Tywin Lannister
Whenever I would play CK2 I loved to play as the Gardeners right before Aegon’s conquest. They are primed to have their heir marry a Peake girl and I always maintained that connection in my role play… though i would also eventually recruit a Manderly to come down and take back Dunstonbury too of course.
I won't lie, that Peake Rebellion just made me love the Peakes.
He ain't losing. He is just UNWINning
Did they chose the wrong sides or is this all part of the House Peake Master Plan?
Orphan Maker was the best part of this video 😎 now I must know more about this sword ⚔️
Thanks for the heads up before the HotD section
Big respect for the skip to the next part bit, nice video ill sub
House Uller of Dorne is said to be pretty awful. I'd put them on the list.
They very likely tortured Rhaenys had she survived.
@@nunyabiznes33 An understandable move, stupid nonetheless.
@@nunyabiznes33Torturing incestuous genocidal imperialists is pretty based actually
@@nunyabiznes33 Rhaenys deserved every bit of it. Absolutely.
@@kallemort Indeed. No one invited those Targs in Westeros. They asked for it. Dorne did nothing wrong, simply defended their home.
Unwin Peake was something else. If its ever revealed that he truly did assassinate Jaehaera, this guys gonna be metaphorically jumped by the fans with every power that Memes may grant
That, and man was he a terrible Hand. Not a single positive thing that I can recall came out of this guy.
Urwin Peake was one of the most infuriating characters while i was reading Fire and Blood, i have no doubt that he was involved in Jaehaera's murder
Based Unwin killing a targshit.
they killed a Targaryen? Bobby B approves
they killed a king not any Targaryen maeker who was the king son of the king father of a king and grandson of a king
This is like Gormanghast fan fic! I see you GRRM and I love it! Hahaha!!!!
That Dampair chapter in Dance was absolutely the bees knees man.
I've only watched 2 of your videos including this one and they were both great, I'm subscribing.
>house Ball
**Bron's laughter**
LmL had a great point on his last stream about “why the heck is this house even still there GRRM?”
Awesome content do more family history vids!!
Hey Quinn since you are a fan of Barry I would love you do a thematic breakdown of the show such as how it portrays what happens when individuals perpetuate the cycle of violence! 🤓
The fact that this house hasnt been eradicate is beyond me
I don't like the characterization of these houses as bad for advancing their house and family through any means necessary, just as everyone else is doing.
Except the Boltons who should've been wiped out thousands of years ago
“OOOOH GORMIE” in DavidreadsASOIAF’s voice is the first thing that comes to mind when I hear of House Peake.
George and the little things dont always make sense look at house osgrey they joined daemon to get their castle back that king maegor stole when lord osgrey spoke out against maegor yet not one of his descendants went to jaehaerys asking for that back
keep up the amazing videos i love this shit ( we need an in-depth explanation on the peaks uprising that killed maekar!)
Well I know what house I'm gonna be apart of for my supervillain arc of CK3 AGOT
Sacrifice for House Algorithm
I love unwin peake, i was gonna make a video on him so i was researching and found this dope ass video, great work yet again dude
I watched a Lore video about the regency of Aegon III and I’ve never disliked a fictional character more than Unwin Peake and I’m thankful for the validation this video gives me
It's funny because Martin's all like, "I don't really have people be all good or all bad ... shades of grey..Grey... blah blah," and then he proceeded to do the opposite with certain houses
Has House Peake peaked?! Will they reclaim their lost lands and castles?! Stay tuned for a special sneak peek at the Sneake Peakes!
Killing filthy Targs is based TTD Total Targ Death
House Peake? Castles on coat of arms? Lord Titus?
Okay, this is clearly an hommage for Mervyn Peake and the Gormenghast series
Unwin Peake was most likely named after Tolkein's first publisher (Unwin) and the author of the Gormenghast trilogy (Mervyn Peake)
I am Peakeing so hard at the idea of Unwin in HotD 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm just happy to be here.
I always suspected they had Orphan-Maker confiscated at some point, possibly after Gormon Peake's execution
What makes House Braken evil?
Lannisters, Boltons and Freys all helped massacre the Starks, but what did Braken do?
LORD LOSE THE MOST POSSIBLE
Literally got fire and blood the first day it released and not until now did I get the name.
Lmaooo
Dude is such a sore loser
Unrelated, but I'd like to see covered topic of Targaryen marriages. What if they need to unite Westeros not only politically but also by blood? Obviously in Mad King and his descendants's blood there's blood of Baratheon, Arryn and Martell. Aegon V married with family from Riverlands if that counts. Jacerys failed to connect Fire with Ice (Stark), but it's likely Rhaegar succeeded. Tyrrell (or Hightower) and Lannister houses connected with the royal family, but their genes weren't passed on.
This video made me laugh out loud 😂 When you talked about how they killed the king and other two high lords with a giant rock I was wheezing 😂😂
Now THIS is peak content!
Walder made sure that House Frey is the most irredeemable house in Westeros
House Baratheon should be an honorable mention.
No, its one of the most based minor houses ive seen so far
Thanks for another video 👍
Sounds like Chessa Peake will be searching for a suitor that can end with all bad luck
title makes it sound like you going to be talking about a incompetent house more than a evil one
I think grrm has an especially gruesome ending in store for the Peake line
I certainly hope not. They're one of my favourite houses, especially in the CK2 mod. Also, calling the Peakes evil is cringe, naive and childish. There is no such thing as evil, just different pov.
I just recently played a bit of CK3 „A Game of Thrones“ and within just a few years, House Peake just took over from the Targaryens. They just somehow married into the line and became Kings of Westeros. Dragons and all.
Thanks for the video.
Unwin Peake hate comment here ✅️
You forgot house wyl and house uller they basically the Bolton's of the north
Boltons of the south
“Boiled leather”
You may not like it, but this is what Peake performance looks like
Great video ❤
The Reach looks an awful lot like Wales(!)
Love the pun, Peake performance
Gormon Peake makes me thing that this is all a weird Gormenghast reference. It was a pretty famous fantasy series written by a guy called Mervyn Peake.
