I’ve been shooting with my OG Komodo for over a year now on weddings. Honestly it was the best decision I made. Yes boot time is “slow” but realistically the batteries last almost 4hrs and are hot swappable. So the boot time really isn’t an issue when you know what time things are going to be happening. Good wedding filmmakers plan and build buffer into the timeline.
While on the topic of being “slow” it’s not a bad thing for a camera to slow you down and be more intentional with your shots. It always you to create more than just capture.
Also R3D while yes a bit massive for data. Is the best raw codec cause weddings are so run and gun that color temp is always kinda constantly changing. Not having to worry about iso or kelvin is so freeing especially if you have a second shooter who you could easily hand the Komodo to and let them run around. You can save some money on the monitor in the beginning and just use your phone for wireless control.
There are a ton of advantages that aren’t necessarily image quality but more so freedom along with flexibility in post so you can focus on story over technicals

Thank you for this comment! I’ve been waiting to see someone who is actually using one. It think it’s a preference to how the person likes shooting and if the image quality is worth it for all the cons. For me the answer is yes! And I also won’t mind slow camera as it fits my shooting style. Can you share some of your work?

I leave my camera on during the most important moments. I ALWAYS have the schedule nights before and know what time aprox each moment will be. The schedule always changes so I know to keep the camera on for at least half hour before the moment starts or even an hour. I use a BMPCC 4K rigged (8.8lbs) for weddings. The V Mount battery lasts literally all day and ill plug it in whenever i can or when i eat.
Plus i always have a second camera man doing the same just different angles. Ill keep a phone on the camera to record the special moments JUST IN CASE YOU NEVER KNOW. Iphone got 4k so it works as a back up. Im switiching to RED KOMODO X soon but I know ill be able to handle the start up times now because of this.

Another great video Rumen! I am not sure that REDs are for me. Too expensive (in my perspective). And I feel that my main camera needs to be able to make photos too. Very often I don't have the time to put back the camera, so I can take out another one. It has to happen with a "click" of a butoon for me. :)
