    Recreating Best Picture nominees from the 2024 Oscars has taken up 5 months of my life! I got married between filming and editing! Part 1 has nothing on part 2! This video is full of even more difficult shots than before, such as revisting the nuke VFX from Oppenheimer, lighting a field on fire for Killers of the Flower Moon, and filming underwater for Maestro. Fun fact, combine part one and two, and it's 52 minutes, making it a feature length film!

      It would be awesome to see you recreate some old Hollywood scenes. You could pick your Best Picture Favourites from the 30s to somewhere like end of 50s, maybe even 1920s. Love your work and I hope someday to meet and work with you. You are an inspiration to me!

    • @alexanderlintott4286
      @alexanderlintott4286 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      @@zangasperic11 I am serious. The problem with having a discussion such as this, is the subjectivity of the matter. We may never agree, it's just an opinion; perhaps my comment shows a certain level of naivety in regard to cinematography. However, I can't help but value what others think and judging by the ratio in the comments it is clear I'm not alone.
      The 'couple' shots I found particularly impressive were, the holdovers and Barbie shots. I love the Oppenheimer shot, I am just slightly bothered by the lack of splodges and texture on the fireball.

    • @zangasperic11
      @zangasperic11 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@alexanderlintott4286 Interesting. I haven’t seen the Barbie shot, and I agree that the individual Oppenheimer shot could be up for debate. Since your comment was under this video, I took it to mean that the shots from this video were better than the originals. However, aside from the Oppenheimer shot, I still very much disagree with that perspective.

    I did a similar shot of smoke/fire outdoors and I used a long AC duct tube with holes punched along the tubing… worked like a charm.(obviously you need to take into count that as the smoke reaches the back of the tube there is less of it. So make the holes smaller closer to the fog machine and larger as you get to the end of the tube.

    I love that kind of video. And for people who love the swirly bokeh effect but are really on a budget (because the Petzval lenses are 500$ minimum), the Helios lenses can be found for 60-100$. They're old, from the 50's and 60's, but they are for sure worth trying. It's really a lot of fun.

    Don't put weights on yourselves! The body density is less than water WITH air inside your lungs FULLY, so breath all of the oxygen out of your lungs and you will automatically sink no matter what. Hopes this helps in future shots!!!

      @mclama1139 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    • @WilliamHBaker

      We tried that first, but I had a ton of trouble with it. Our actress was able to do that pretty well, but she wanted weights to be able to get to her spot faster. In the future though, if we do add weights we'll do something more proper, and probably go as little weight as we can get away with.

    I do underwater filming professionally and it has been great fun to see you struggling with the underwater shoot xD
    One (unpleasant but very useful) tip for sinking is to let all the air out. I always go in freediving and depending on how deep I go down I let more or less air out. It is something that takes time to master, but when you get it you can control the buoyancy almost as well as a scuba-diver. But of course, If you have weights it gets way easier to sink.
    Regarding the underwater housings.... Yes, they are expensive as hell. Mine was +3000 bucks + the lens port. Good thing I can dive down to 100 meters. Bad thing is that, If I ever reached that depth while freediving I will break all records, because I won't come up soon.

    Tip for sinking to the bottom: exhale completely. Removing the air from your lungs makes you denser and you should begin to sink... unless you're fat.
    The density of the camera should help with sinking too. No need for weights.

    This is such a good idea to improve filmmaking know-how, much like how artists do master studies.

    This is really good!!! I just wrapped an underwater shoot and I used the same type of “glorified ziplock” cage for the FX3. It was incredibly difficult, same challenges as you but we nailed it! Congrats 🎉

    the dicapak underwater case is what I have and it is incredibly annoying to use. I filled mine up with paper towels for my test run before I even thought about putting my camera in that thing. In the end I was able to get an alright underwater shot of the model that worked though.
