There are some performers whose expressive means are so pure that at time they're able to access a place at the very core of human expression, something between primitive and childlike, something non-linguistic. I haven't felt this since Bjork. Thank you for this song.
I'm obsessively watching all her videos. She's a quality musician, one of a kind. Soulful persona, impressive voice, captivating performances, and poetic lyrics. There's a respectable madness to them too which is refreshing.
Maybe its portraying two choices, one a dark force, the other a light force, she said in an interview the song was about choosing her art over a relationship. @dia.6213
Haven't seen the movie but now I'll make it a point to. Hannah is an amazing and beautifully emotive singer and songwriter. If I had to choose only one artist to listen to from here on, I would pick her records.
At certain times TH-cam gets it bang on right with its recommendations. On this occasion, I first listened to "The Barrel" Then I listened to "Horizon" and then "Stop your Tears". (Stop your tears made me cry) - All amazing, my new found artist for 2019. I may be late to the party with this one but better late than never, I am blessed to hear such wonderful, heartfelt, REAL talent. Artistic without boundry.
This song is so incredible! I just can't even...(sighs)...it's so freaking good! I've heard it I don't know how many times since the middle of last year...and it's still so darn great! Goodness! Aldous Harding is a revelation!
I feel something different from this. Not a battle. More like dancing together in an act of creation. From what I read the actress in white is actually aldous's birth mother in real life. I think the video shows the mother raising aldous with white Magick to make the world a better place. Aldous expresses making the world a better place whilst wielding the power of humanity's repressed shadows. The video to me is an expression of yin yang concepts. But this kind of video is obviously open to interpretation so who knows.
this video, this song, the fact that it is her mom.. I find it mesmerizing and look at my own daughter in hopes that down the line we can have as open and creative relationship as these two do.
A truly fascinating artist. Some people are commenting on her live performances but I think she's mesmerising. Her music is so strong that it doesn't really matter to me how she delivers it.
ugh so effing powerful the relationship between mother and daughter the deep hardships of being born in woman's body in this society and the pain and tolerance all women and mothers endure for their daughters and friends.... CRYING!!! I LOVE U MOM!!!!
I love the way she uses everything to create such expressive sound, such a unique voice and intonation, can;t be done without using lips, teeth, cheeks, muscles, eyes even, to create the tensions, emotions, amazing artist, keep being you Aldous!
The written word and vocal delivery are powerful and eloquent however the imagery portrays another artist. Without diminishing the primary importance of the musical works and the undoubtedly talented Miss Harding would it be possible to elucidate as to the origin of the cane form and the performer of such? Many thanks and kind regards..
I can't say enough about this song. Beautiful, moody, introspective...delivered by an amazing voice capable of several emotions. Not enough music like this.
I am totally addicted to this! It has been a long time since music has made me feel this way. Funnily enough , 4AD has been there since the first time. Damn this moves stuff around in my soul that I thought was dead and rotten and all forgotten. So gorgeous. Never thought I would be kissed for the first time again!
I don;t comment on much. I don't listen to much right through. I listened to this. I am commenting. This is art. Fucking great. She challenges expectations of normal, acceptable and beautiful with her lyrics, appearance, emotional intensity and surprise, her arrangements and of course her voice. This inspires me to stretch myself and stop trying so hard to fit into a box. The mainstream is so bloody narrow at times and it takes something like this to push the boundaries, meet some resistance and make our perspectives a little wider. Of course if something is too far out and/or just plain BAD it will have no influence at all. So she has succeeded in catching the edge of the mainstream with what for me is a beautiful and powerful artwork, visually and musically.
You will also like Laura Nyro, the Bronx genius who created gothic, dark pop in the late 1960's. Nyro is Rock Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, only second to Bob Dylan as the most influential singer/songwriter in contemporary music. Try her 'You Don't Love Me When I Cry' (1969), very powerful and intense. Nyro was a musical force of nature, an absolute genius. Her 'December's Boudoir' (1968) is just bewildering.
i have always been really super picky about women artists - - - I am a singer; musician, dancer - - - and the people that i have liked have been Patti Smith, Marianne Faithful - Grace Jones, . . . that's about it. I'm a Nick Cave kinda person - - but this -this woman, her intensity and art - fantastic.
I am going to quote you on fb if you don't mind! "This is art. Fucking great. She challenges expectations of normal, acceptable and beautiful with her lyrics, appearance, emotional intensity and surprise, her arrangements and of course her voice." Sean O'Connor
2:54 I've never seen her more powerful and it makes me very happy. Heard five seconds of this song in an amoeba 'what's in my bag' episode and instantly became an Aldous Harding fan by heart.
This is beautiful! That woman in black (Aldous) is the ever present specter of pain and chaos within the woman in white. The woman in white is white because she is able to ward the chaos off with hard work and routine. Which is represented by the meditative like motions. Even though the woman in white moves flawlessly, the chaos is eternally waiting on the sidelines, eager to pull her away. I guess i see the message as pain and catastrophe can never be banished entirely and we have to do our best to live with it.
It sounds convincing to me, but i don't know why. I find the video mysterious and intriguing but the meaning elusive. I`m looking for some reasoning by someone who appears better at interpreting what we see on our screens.

Found this song years ago, and it was so perfect for the scene in “It Ends With Us,” when Lilly saw his brutality for the first time without rose-colored glasses. So heartbreaking💔💔
This song and album will always remind me of my daughter, both her conception and her birth. She's growing up with Aldous Harding in her blood, and in her voice.

Aldous' vocals are welcoming, warm, and comforting, like the first sip of tea in the morning: 4AD, had better keep this one. I see so many comments, making, the comparison to Elizabeth Fraser. I differ, on that opinion; nobody, will ever sound like Elizabeth Fraser.
It’s so unsettling how persistent Aldous’ character seems to be in beckoning the woman in white (her mom) over. The taunting smile, and the jittery movements make me feel as though regardless of how much we strive to occupy ourselves, and love a fulfilling life, death is waiting and laughing.
I listened this song the first time on spotify and forgot save it and after half of year of looking for this song, I finally find it. Great song, congrats

Man, she is powerful in her art. She bites. And it's so beautiful. Having her mom in this video is also a gorgeous and savage image.
That's her mom with the Sheleighly? Interesting.

Her music comes through her, body and soul. She could not deliver it with such honesty any other way.

Lorina Harding, who is an excellent singer as well.
What she does with her expressions channels Bob Dylan. It's weird and wonderful. What a genius; what command. Amazing.
Somewhere, a tear rolls down Patti Smith's cheek...and she smiles.

Speaks to me even more deeply over all these years of listening and yet I couldn't tell you why. High art. Always fresh.
Aldous Harding is the best live show I have seen since I can remember.
I think because she performs with such passion / intent it makes the words so metaphorical. She is so intense.
This is beautiful! That woman in black (Aldous) is the ever present specter of pain and chaos within the woman in white. The woman in white is white because she is able to ward the chaos off with hard work and routine. Which is represented by the meditative like motions. How do you know that?
Well it's an idea, so who knows. In fact the woman in white is her mother, Lorina Harding, who is also a singer.
It sounds convincing to me, but i don't know why. I find the video mysterious and intriguing but the meaning elusive. I`m looking for some reasoning by someone who appears better at interpreting what we see on our screens.
No. It's about life and aging. Fall in love with me now (here is your princess) and don't forget I grow old (here is your horizon).

*LYRICS:*
Let me put the water in the bowl

Say again, this place
Say again, this place
Here is your princess
And here is your horizon
Here is your princess
And here is your horizon
And every now and then, I think about
When you’ll die, babe
There’s a fall in my head
It floods what you said into the room, babe
I don’t belong in the desert
Yes, I can see it, take me home, babe
Say again, this place
Say again, this place
Here is your princess
And here is your horizon
