This is stunning. And I hadn't noticed before how Aldous and Richard Ashcroft have strikingly similar angular beauty in their facial symmetry and mannerisms.
Saw them perform tonight. Very tight band of great musicians. Can't imagine enjoying a live show much more. Feeling so fortunate to have seen them in a small venue.
I discovered Aldous Harding two days ago. Until I saw this interview I thought that she may not be of this world. Now I know that she is human, and a genius.
The most captivating performance and interview ever. I adore Aldous Harding's song writing. I listen, and find myself taken away within a torrent of inner feeling's and emotions. I've been lucky enough to see Aldous and her band play live twice. On both occasions I experienced many tingles throughout the performance, which was an absolute joy to me. Many Thanks KEXP and Aldous Harding.
YES! So happy Aldous Harding is playing at KEXP again. Last time I was very angry at the DJ for not asking enough questions; my apologies to that previous DJ. Cheryl Waters did a fantastic job interviewing her, thank you so much; Aldous Harding is such a fascinating performer. :)
It's so amazing to experience how every single sound, and notes, and lyrics in your songs have a deep meaning. It aligns every single particle of my being. Thank you for your art.
What a treat! :) Thank you KEXP for making it possible! Cheryl's voice as soothing as ever, Aldous being honest - bringing the joy each time she sings - together with her amazing band.
I have been rooted to my seat, watching and listening to these remarkable artists. Beautiful spellbinding music. Thank you Aldous Harding and your band. Beautiful.
Made me laugh so much the comment about some guy with a camera just goes out and films her in her natural habitat. She is truly a diamond! Love her ways so much.
Wonder if she means 'big t' Truth. Nobody has a lock on that; something that is TRUE for everybody. You can speak to your own honesty, but that is subject to change, as it should be.
Oh Aldous, I've loved you from the moment I saw you at the Tiny Desk. Your features look like my mother who passed away 2/13/14, she would have also loved you so much. Please always create and I hope to see you live one day! If you and the band stop through Southern Oregon on your way to Boise, look me up and I'll show you the greatest coffee/tea places here!
I love the way Cheryl peels back the layers to try and unearth the complexities of Aldous mindset and musical talent.....like most of us, Cheryl has been taken on a musical journey but wants credence to solidify her own dreams on that journey.....if that makes sense, it's how I interpreted the interview. Just found that she is playing in London on 20th May....can't wait.
I feel a weird kind of sad today, a little out of my mind and uncomfortable but I can't put my finger on why. This is really doing the trick for some reason. Cathartic.
Between lunar energy, caffeine sensitivity, radio waves from outer space, perceived slights and gravity, the fact that the mass of us feel stability in our little boats is a daily minor miracle.
It makes me so happy that someone like Aldous exists in the world and that our society has not degenerated to the point that we've stopped giving her and others like her (like her? what does that mean?) a platform to share that with us.
Marx said more or less what you alude to speaking about dear friend German poet Heine:”It is no exaggeration to say that Mohr [Marx's nickname] not only admired Heine as a poet, but had a sincere affection for him. He would even make all sorts of excuses for Heine's political vagaries. Poets, Mohr explained, were queer kittle-cattle, not to be judged by the ordinary or even extra-ordinary standards of conduct...”

This is stunning. And I hadn't noticed before how Aldous and Richard Ashcroft have strikingly similar angular beauty in their facial symmetry and mannerisms.
The music world is definitely a better place for having Aldous Harding in it. Love Designer.
Captivating band. And good to see Cheryl Waters again. :-)

19:13 "...I don't know" - she's so genuine - love u Aldous!!
I saw Aldous live in Melbourne last night.... without a doubt THE BEST performance I have ever seen! Love her so much ❤️
Catherine M saw her in Adelaide a few hours ago by accident and was mesmerisd
@@anntifurz Wow! Yes, she is truly mesmerising! Glad you got to see her 🙂
Saw them perform tonight. Very tight band of great musicians. Can't imagine enjoying a live show much more. Feeling so fortunate to have seen them in a small venue.
You gotta respect a flugelhorn-playing drummer...
No shit! He's ruining it for drummers being lazy.
yeah, i play the trumpet with drums but im getting definitely a flugelhorn after this
Pssh, make it a trombone and then I'll be impressed 😉
You might have a try with Alice Donut and their drummer on the trombone ;-)
Every instrument is a percussion instrument if you try hard enough.
I love how much the band is connected to her. She's a genius, and the band (and the radio host) really, really get it.
I discovered Aldous Harding two days ago. Until I saw this interview I thought that she may not be of this world. Now I know that she is human, and a genius.
Literally so happy to have discovered this
She plays the most deliberate, conflicting, awe inspiring characters ❤️
So glad she played Damn; it's a special song. Love the way it moseys along, whilst being completely gripping at the same time
It's so amazing to experience how every single sound, and notes, and lyrics in your songs have a deep meaning. It aligns every single particle of my being. Thank you for your art.
What a treat! :) Thank you KEXP for making it possible! Cheryl's voice as soothing as ever, Aldous being honest - bringing the joy each time she sings - together with her amazing band.
Yes, the band did a great job on that tour. I have seen them in cologne and it is much more than a background band.
the interviews in-between overshadow the entertaining quality of the music, what a great interviewer
I have been rooted to my seat, watching and listening to these remarkable artists. Beautiful spellbinding music. Thank you Aldous Harding and your band. Beautiful.
I'm so happy I am alive to hear AH's music
What a truly beautiful comment 😌 thank you for sharing that thought... it stirred a deep breath in me..and lots of gratitude!

this is why i love kexp and subscribed all those years ago- to discover new (to me) aural magicians like this!
Made me laugh so much the comment about some guy with a camera just goes out and films her in her natural habitat. She is truly a diamond! Love her ways so much.
I wish the YT ads would not show during songs. Else always checking performances in KEXP. The best sound/mix.
TH-cam Premium. No ads. I know that's not what you want to hear.
get the Brave browser. Cuts out ALL the ads, its fantastic and free!
“I try to take it to people, they try to fight me on things… they lose” LOL Aldous is a gift
She have a power over me I can't stop listening to her she is even wonderful when she talks I just want more of her in my system ❤
"It's impossible to speak the truth and be honest" OK MY THERAPIST AND I HAVE A LOT TO TALK ON THE NEXT SESSION
a wise poet once said 'You shouldn't let poets lie to you'
That was a fascinating reply, and you can almost understand how it could be accurate.
@@ulture hehe.
Wonder if she means 'big t' Truth. Nobody has a lock on that; something that is TRUE for everybody. You can speak to your own honesty, but that is subject to change, as it should be.
I‘m in love with this beautiful band
Big shoutout to Kevin Suggs. The sound quality is immaculate.
HAH the part about what she likes to do and what she actually does sitting in the dark on her phone is so relatable & hilarious!
That is a beautiful thing great comment
I can so relate to her. "That's just what I do, not what I like to do. So what do you like to do? I don't know. I don't know."
She used to play open mic nights here in Christchurch, Lyttleton NZ. She has been amazing since day one xx
Her music/poetry is on another level. Such an amazing artist. Pure and powerful.
Hopefully, she'll be back when all this (gestures) is over.
I feel a weird kind of sad today, a little out of my mind and uncomfortable but I can't put my finger on why. This is really doing the trick for some reason. Cathartic.
i had the same feeling of this josephine gray
Between lunar energy, caffeine sensitivity, radio waves from outer space, perceived slights and gravity, the fact that the mass of us feel stability in our little boats is a daily minor miracle.
Pay attention kids. This is what genius looks and sounds like.
David Walsh, arts editor at the WSWS.
She has an inscrutably honest artifice. Reminds of Dylan
Cheryl Waters is a legend, man 🙌
Brilliant. Both Aldous and Cheryl.
“And I sit in the dark.” That’s my favorite part. So relatable haha.
The music is plain beautiful. Saw her live last year, and that was like top 10 of live gigs I've ever seen. During interviews she gives a hard to pinpoint kind of vibe, but weirdly what she's saying makes total sense when you think about it.
The way Cheryl Waters interviews artists, shows she really has an interest in them. Like Terry Gross.
She has the voice of an angel and the facial expressions of the pub regulars.
piano song from 26. touched the soul instantly. thank you aldous
So much more than I expected. This is just what I need right now.
Amazing artist. Amazing Cheryl Waters.
Elemental. Primeval. Numinous. Transcendent.
