    I've been using adjustable mono's for several years now, recently sold my rack and have been using regular j-hooks until I buy a new set, but I'll say once you get used to the bar swinging freely there is no going back. Not only are they great for squatting, but they are fantastic for pressing movements. It's also worth mentioning that the trend seems to be if you have ever used a REAL monolift you hate the rack attached versions. However if you never have used a real one (like me) people tend to love them because they have never known anything different.

    I have the Rogue version and love it. Like you mentioned, I removed the top bolt ...but for me that eliminated everything I didn’t like about the ROM. I never hit the hooks on the way up and I never have to step in to re-rack. I use it for incline/flat bench as well since I have a garage gym and rarely have a spotter.

    Brandon. Thanks for the review. I bought the Rogue version and I am not disastified with the quality of the product. It's a good product but, like you said I found myself doing a one step front or back in order to re-rack the barbell. I'am glad you mentioned it, for me is not a big stopper, is better than doing a whole walk. But it is good to hear the pro's and con's. Thanks again ! brandon keep the good work....

    Appreciate your critique of these types of devices. Never had any issues with my j-cups for bench press, but wondered what advantages, if any, these offer. Any gains seems pretty minimal, compared to the downsides. Simple is often better than complex, seems to me. Glad to save my money and stay with what I have. So THANKS!

    I recently got the Rogue.
    You nailed every point I noticed.
    Additionally for bench, I noticed I had to set the monolift lower than expected, because on as it swings away it arcs up, and as I rack the bar it arcs down, so it could be a stretch to get it back on the hooks if not set low enough.
    I’m still getting used to it and plan to continue using it, and just trying to be more conscious of bar path to avoid colliding.
    As long as it sucks less than unracking a bench, which I think it does, I’ll keep using it.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hah I think your last sentence sums it up perfectly.

  • @mathtcha
    @mathtcha 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You have the the monolift on the lowest hole setting (the point where the monolift pivots). If you had it in the top most setting, it would increase the diameter and the monolift would be further away from the rack on setup. When you unrack the bar, the monolift would travel further back toward the rack giving you more clearance and would probably be less likely to hit it on the way down... figured this out on my own monolift...approx 5/8” I figure..

    • @BasementBrandon

      I tried both settings and ROM was the same.

    I've been watching a lot of these types of videos (you, Garage Gym Reviews etc... btw I love that you too regularly reference each other and seem to have a good "working" relationship. That's what I love and think is superior about TH-cam) because far into the future when I am back into heavy lifting and have the room, I am going to be getting a cage etc... and up until now, I was probably going to be going with Titan. Same dimensions, half the price. That's a no brainer... until I saw the j-cup/strap fails. Nope! While I won't be pushing insane amounts of weight, I will be moving enough for me to be afraid of me failing/breaking... the LAST thing I need is to also worry about my equipment failing/breaking. Bottom line, I THINK Titan equipment is stronger than me. I KNOW Rogue equipment is. I'll pay double for peace of mind :)

    Pretty sure these exist for people to bench alone with. Just lock it out and the things move back out of the way. After lifting, just float it back into place like a generic J cup. This way, you don’t have to push up on a heavy bench AND try to swing it out into your starting position, exhausting yourself and losing your back tightness.

    • @BasementBrandon
      @BasementBrandon  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're meant to emulate a mono-lift, but they do a poor job of it.

  • @pintobean8935
    @pintobean8935 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thank you for this review. I was mainly looking into it for benching. I train alone and my j-hooks are very deep (I hate them) so it makes it very hard to un-rack the bar for bench. I'm 5'2" and wondered if height would play a difference with the monolift? I guess it seems I should save my money and not buy these.

    • @BasementBrandon

      I don't think it's worth it personally

    • @CLGilbert
      @CLGilbert 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found these to be perfect for my solo benching. I don't need them until I get near my max. Then it's too heavy to unrack at an angle. With these I can push vertically. That is their only use for me. I tried squatting but it not an improvement. At my strength level my max squat isn't hard to walk out. I recommend them for solo max bench attempts.

    Just saw this review... I bought the monolift arms from Rogue, the extra ROM would have to substantially affect the function of the arms. I also like to rock into the bar but this has to become a bigger issue once you're in the 75% 1RM territory and the bar is just too heavy to easily swing more than a couple inches, surely? Bench is another one... honestly, it's hard to say what the facts are for me, but I'll get back to you once I get a chance to play some more.

    This is really a personal preference thang. First off, made in the USA FTW. In my opinion ((in my opinion)) I barbell, SSB, and front squat on the Rogue version with great success after removing the small bolt. That said, it’s just me. Still waiting for someone.... anyone on youtube to give a review of the Force USA MyRack. But I get it, if you get all the attachments for it it can get pretty expensive quick, and if you already have a stellar rack.... why buy another one solely for a review. Anyways, other suggestions for more things to review..... those SteelBody Slip Lock collars for your barbells. I think you can get them at Dicks for about $15. I'm not sure if that's a quality brand though or a cheap knock off. The concept of them is awesome as hell and if you can find a quality brand of that kind of collar mechanism I think they'd easily be the coolest barbell collars out there. 2 other collars I find intriguing.... Croc Lock collars from EliteFTS and those slap bracelet-like collars "SnapClips" I think they're called. That last one doesn't seem very trustworthy to me but still an interesting collar concept.
    Just figured I'd drop some suggestions for future purchases on items I'd at least like to see reviewed and they don't cost an arm and a leg. I mean I think the Croc locks are the most "expensive" at about $30-40 last I checked.
