The natural 6-71N was economical to run in a truck. In Australia they got 6.5 mpg as a semi tandem drive towing tri-axle trailer loaded to around 38tonne or about 80 000 pounds. This is the first time I've heard a 6-71T. Notice how quiet it is with a turbo and would be a bit better on fuel also quicker uphill. Thanks for this upload, you've got me dreaming as I always wanted to own a small transport company with Detroit power another one is an 8V53T which I want to get .
Wow, that's a pretty decent fuel mileage i dont really known why some people says 2 strokes are thirsty. I like yo think that the 671t should pull better and may has a better fuel consupmtion. I always wonder why most of 671's are naturally aspirated and just a few of them se te turbo charged.
@@santopiantado1161 Thankyou the 8V71T was getting similar fuel figures and was better on fuel compared to a 350 Cummins that was getting 5.2 mpg hauling livestock. Their formula engines were more economical.

Personally a like to ask information of people who talks whit numbers. I'm very surprised about how a 350 smallcam may burn more fuel that a 8v71t. I was always around cummins v378, v555 and small a big cams, never a Detroit except por a 8v71 n/a in a generator. The thing used to work 9 hours daily at 1900 rpm whitout a problem no leaks, no oil burned and usually drank 200lts of diesel for the 9 hours. Was good to me then and now. I miss the lady screaming early in the morning, we know it was time to get up.

Yes I know my engines the 8V71 natural could chew some juice at times depending on who the driver was, using N60 injectors is more economical than the standard N65s which give it the 318hp rating. You mentioned that generator which is a good application for a Detroit engine kept at high revs no lugging or excessive idling which they don't like and glaze up internally. There were COE Kenworth's in Australia that had 8V92Ts that ran overnight routes single pan trailer traveling about 500 miles and got 4.8 mpg and were driven with no regards to fuel economy basically full throttle the whole way. To be honest Scania engines are the most efficient of all I think even in the 1980s they set standards with emissions too. Euro 6 has been around for a while.

How sweet the sound I miss these old engines in 1982 the carnival that played our fair had about 15 gmc 9500 single axle tractors with these detroits we also had 1 tandem axle 9500 and some ford L9000 single axle at our trucking company back then that had the detroits in them with the 10 speed trannies they sure sounded sweet taking off down the road.
A 238 with a hair dryer. Drove a lot of these when I was a Teamster Car Hauler. Then they went to the John Deere Detroit 4 stroke and straight 7 speed, right after the 330 silver 6v92t

Drove truck for 4 years, started working on diesels, overhauled many John Deere diesels , Allis Chalmers, Case, Cummins, Catapillar , personally own over 30 diesel engines from a 2 cylinder John Deere 720 diesel to a 585 hp Cat, including a 8V71T in a Chevrolet Bison, not to mention selling Allis Chalmers diesel engines around the US, I can tell you for a fact there is no Detroit John Deere diesel
@@michaeldowning6986 I probably backed up more miles then you drove ahead! The series 60 was designed by Penske, and the small 466 and 530 Detroit's were made by Navistar. John Deere bought 2 detroit 2 cycle engines for a small dozer and tractor and a 671 for the 8020. Anything built with a 4 cycle engine was either yanmar, Deere, or Cummins
Great throttle control, most guys slam it in the next gear and mash on it..not good especially in the low range...got an honest 7 mpg with my 6V92 interplant in a 359 5n4 with 5.29s.. slow truck only 325 hp but still a pleasure to drive 30+ years ago

@@Adriaantjuh7 not sure, I’m just shifting the normal H pattern. Also, Because of the dog house in the cab, the shifter is bent forward so it can be shifted comfortably. Otherwise, so that might give the illusion of shifting sideways. And yeah they are old and slow but fun to drive.

We've always had a 671 Detroit on our farm, also in a GMC Brigadier. It lugged down very easily so I always wound up the RPM's before grabbing another gear too. It's all about feel for the truck. But I'd never wind our other semi trucks up that high. Our 671 loaded easily and didn't ever seem to have much power. Still a pretty cool ole truck though.
That camera wobble took me back to when those trucks were new and I was 5 getting bounced and rattled all over the place. Good times!
I would savor every gear. NOTHING sounds like a two stroke Detroit.

Way too much time between gears for me but everyone drives different I suppose.
Not everyone likes to be a speed shifting showboat! This is progressive shifting and easy on the drivetrain as one should be. IMO
