@Khark22 - I have a 2004 SE. No front diff leak, at least not yet. The bad u-joint was on the transfer case side. My rear diff was replaced by Nissan at around 25k miles but no leak. I figured my vibration was my worn out tires; when I replaced them and still had the vibration I started reading titantalk. So far Nissan has replaced (for free) my front rotors, brake calipers and pads, my rear axle and I think two wire harnesses. The u-joint is the first thing I've replace on my own nickel.
Thanks for sharing! My 2005 only has 73 k miles and I was thinking, "WTH?!". First thing I checked was the driveline and sure enough...what a POS engineering move if this is as common as I'm finding out.... Thanks for the video, looks like a relatively easy fix and it'll save me some money and for that I thank you!
Good stuff...I have a 2005 Pathfinder that was doing the exact same thing. I couldn't figure out whats the rattling noise was at low speeds...preciate the video
Just changed my rear joints, front joints next. For all the veiwers so concerned about not showing how to remove the old ones, just look on TH-cam, at least a hundred of how to vids! With proper tool, with a vise or with a hammer.
Thanks. There are lots of TH-cam videos on how press out u-joint bearings using sockets. Basically, you want one slightly larger than the bearing (to press into) and one slightly smaller to push with. I can't remember what sizes I used.
Yes, at low speeds (parking lots and taking off from a stop sign or lights) I would hear odd sounds. Just crawl underneath and see if either drive shaft is loose. They both should be nice and tight, up and down and side to side.
im having a thumping noise when rolling , my drive shaft moves side to side by hand maybe about quarter inch thinking its the drive shaft or maybe these u joints any thoughts ?
dsriddle My 2004 LE has 170,000 miles on it as of today and I need to get another 170,000 miles out of it. I did loose my rear at 63,000 miles (no warranty) $3500 later I had a new rear diff with the heat fins. lost my axle seals. It seems I have a slight leak on front diff rear seal which i plan to address as soon as the weather breaks. I also have a problem putting gas in the tank it always spits back. lastly I have no rear speakers working. My u joint was the front one connected to the diff
I had to replace my stepfather u-joint on front drive shaft cause they were shot cause they were never greased so just make sure to grease the u-joints but good video
Yea. I figured that and I have a large variety which will probably include the smaller socket but the larger one looks HUGE & I don't think I have anything that big.
Thanks so much as I have a 2004 LE and it was shaking like a salmon in a black bears mouth. Per your video my friend and I were able to change u joints. Would of done it on ramps till I watched your video that saved me as I needed to roll the truck to get to the top bolts. thanks again and I may not have used chalk to mark the shaft and front dif and transfer case. your video was awesome. did you have any front dif leakage. Think my rear seal is shot on the diff. any advice? Thanks again
My 2005 nissan titan LE make a crack noise when I change gears and press on the gas or only at stoplights but if I press on the gas slowly it does not make no noise I changed the front / rear differential fluid and transfer case at 115 k and spark plugs did u have any problem similar
I used my vice and a few different sized sockets to press them out. I had to tap it with a hammer to get it started. If I had to do it again I'd add a little heat. Check out this video for how to use the vice method... th-cam.com/video/mGKX6kwKvSE/w-d-xo.html You can do it with just a hammer and many say the easiest way is to use full blown press.
The one major step you skipped showing was actually removing the old u-joints and installing the new ones. That is what I was hoping to learn. Guess I'll have to search further.
I don't disagree; I certainly should have shot video of that. I used various deep sockets and a large vice to press out the bearings. Used a smaller socket as the "pusher" and a larger socket as the "catcher". Then reversed the process to press the new ones back in. I've added a "ChrisFix" link in the description on how to do this with a ball press. His video is a little long but has lots of good information in it. Check it out... th-cam.com/video/5gOeBE-ylQw/w-d-xo.html
im getting a lound clunk noise at stop lights pnly when stop and I accelerateon green ive done change my ujoint front and back and tranny mount and still with the issue anyone else have this problem Nissan told me to replace my driveshaft but since I already replaced the ujoints would that make a different ???
+dugo kiss Probably not. Drive shafts are balanced just like wheels are balanced after getting new tires. It's a good idea to keep the drive shaft in the same relative position. If you're not getting a noticeable vibration you're probably good.
Thanks for the comment Shaun. You're not the first with that feedback. I added a ChrisFix video in the notes if you need help replacing the bearings; check it out at th-cam.com/video/5gOeBE-ylQw/w-d-xo.html.
If you don't know how to press out (and back in) the bearings on the U-Joint, check out this ChrisFix video... th-cam.com/video/5gOeBE-ylQw/w-d-xo.html
Glad you skipped the part in the video that people actually want to see.. replacing the u-joints!!

I think this is the exact issue that my truck is having. Thank you!

wish i saw your video before I got the U Joints from Nissan Paid $133.00 for 2. and I changed both diff side and transfer case side
Yes, a small amount of the "blue" type which is meant to be undone. Not sure I needed too but I did.

Hi, I have to lift the truck to be able to do the check and see if any is damaged? I have a 2004 titan and it hits hard when I reverse
I'm at the nissan dealer getting it looked at thanks hopefully ain't nothing to expensive
Great video. What size sockets did you use? Thanks.
Awesome
2006 Titan, same problem. Shop would insist for the longest time that it's the tires :-)
Cool. Thanks
Thank you Dave ! Just like a tire. Doesn't matter, I was confused, if you separate the shift would be more important..........
hello good day, your truck vibrates when you go up or when accelerated

You need to show how everything is done
Why did you skip the part how the joints are replaced ? 3 thumbs down if I had an extra one

You don't have to use sockets, the right sized galvanized or black pipe would work too.
The one major step you skipped showing was actually removing the old u-joints and installing the new ones. That is what I was hoping to learn. Guess I'll have to search further.

I have a 2013 armada platinum. Everytime i climbed down or up my driveway an turning the wheel slightly. I get this clicking noise from the front
Question...Did you use threadlocker on the bolts or no?

Do you think the marking is very necessary? Because I didn't do that , do I have to worried ?
+dugo kiss Probably not. Drive shafts are balanced just like wheels are balanced after getting new tires. It's a good idea to keep the drive shaft in the same relative position. If you're not getting a noticeable vibration you're probably good.
@@davidriddle2891is it possible to install backwards? Which side goes where?
@@iirviingg it should be symmetrical, shouldn't matter which orientation.
Should showed how you replaced

could have showed the pressing -_-. But thanks for the steps
@Khark22 - Oh, and I'm glad my video helped.
Way to show how you did it
Turned out to be my u joints and a bad transmission mount
Wow!! the main reason why I watched this video was skpped. Waste of Time!!!
If you don't know how to press out (and back in) the bearings on the U-Joint, check out this ChrisFix video...

Three minutes and fifty seconds of nothing.
