    I've had this issue for YEARS, and had thought I'd need to replace the speaker and that it would be a difficult job. Looks super easy, and I hadn't even condsidered repairing the speaker! I haven't been able to find an OEM speaker that's Harmon Kardon, for the premium sound system, and even the standard ones are $50+, so I'm eager to take a look at my speaker and see if reparing it is an option. Thanks!

    Just changed my rear joints, front joints next. For all the veiwers so concerned about not showing how to remove the old ones, just look on TH-cam, at least a hundred of how to vids! With proper tool, with a vise or with a hammer.

    Hi, I have to lift the truck to be able to do the check and see if any is damaged? I have a 2004 titan and it hits hard when I reverse

    I have a 16 e400 I believe I have a similar issue. The center speaker cover on front dash is totally different though. No videos on TH-cam of removal process. (Removing speaker will be similar process, it’s just the REMOVAL OF THE CENTER SPEAKER COVER I’m looking for)

    Well if I would’ve known it was that easy, I would’ve done it when I bought my car a month ago! I saw that the speaker was expensive, so I’m glad it’ll likely be repairable and not completely blown.

    That little center speaker is $150!? so typical of MB. My center grill looks different than yours, it's just a bunch of side to side slots & they appear to be fused to AC unit but hopefully not fingers crossed hoping same techniques will work thanks for share

    • @brickson98m
      @brickson98m 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There’s another video that shows you how to remove that grille. But just go 2nd slot from the bottom closest to the vents in front, 3rd horizontal slot over. There’s little clips in there. Lift them up, and push the whole cover forward and it will come off.

    The one major step you skipped showing was actually removing the old u-joints and installing the new ones. That is what I was hoping to learn. Guess I'll have to search further.

    • @dsriddle
      @dsriddle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't disagree; I certainly should have shot video of that. I used various deep sockets and a large vice to press out the bearings. Used a smaller socket as the "pusher" and a larger socket as the "catcher". Then reversed the process to press the new ones back in. I've added a "ChrisFix" link in the description on how to do this with a ball press. His video is a little long but has lots of good information in it. Check it out... th-cam.com/video/5gOeBE-ylQw/w-d-xo.html

    Thanks for the video! I have a W164 ML with the same issue. The center speaker would buzz/rattle when certain frequencies are played. I followed your video and it sounds great now! The surround was completely separated from both the cone and frame, so I cleaned the surround, and applied new glue. Also, the dust cap was not completely fixed to the cone, so I added a tiny amount of glue between the cap and cone. Thanks again!

    • @dsriddle

      I didn't measure it but 3.5" sounds about right. It was smaller than I imaged it would be based on the size of the grill cover.

    • @dsriddle
      @dsriddle 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I used my vice and a few different sized sockets to press them out. I had to tap it with a hammer to get it started. If I had to do it again I'd add a little heat. Check out this video for how to use the vice method... th-cam.com/video/mGKX6kwKvSE/w-d-xo.html You can do it with just a hammer and many say the easiest way is to use full blown press.

      Hi guys. This video helped me big time. But instead of fixing the rattling speaker with the superglue which goes hard and solid after time and might dry out not holding anymore I have used glue gun and carried a line all the way round the speaker paper rubbery rim. Glue gun did the job and no rattling whatsoever.

  • @fbrglzdrmz
    @fbrglzdrmz 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I need to check mine soon. having some rattle during some songs so it's probably the same issue with the surround. your video definitely helps a lot!

    • @davidriddle2891
      @davidriddle2891 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's been over a month now and seems to be holding up just fine. Still sounds great. I think the heat of the sun just bakes away the glue off the speaker cone. Good luck!

Thanks for the video, looks like a relatively easy fix and it'll save me some money and for that I thank you!

    • @davidriddle2891
      @davidriddle2891 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dugo kiss Probably not. Drive shafts are balanced just like wheels are balanced after getting new tires. It's a good idea to keep the drive shaft in the same relative position. If you're not getting a noticeable vibration you're probably good.

    You don't have to use sockets, the right sized galvanized or black pipe would work too.

  • @brio76mars
    @brio76mars 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yea. I figured that and I have a large variety which will probably include the smaller socket but the larger one looks HUGE & I don't think I have anything that big.

  • @dsriddle
    @dsriddle 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks. There are lots of TH-cam videos on how press out u-joint bearings using sockets. Basically, you want one slightly larger than the bearing (to press into) and one slightly smaller to push with. I can't remember what sizes I used.

    Yes, at low speeds (parking lots and taking off from a stop sign or lights) I would hear odd sounds. Just crawl underneath and see if either drive shaft is loose. They both should be nice and tight, up and down and side to side.
