    I am so grateful that I found your channel. Being a young therapist myself I feel like I have so much to learn. I think I have learned more useful staff from 2 hours watching your videos than in my hole clinical psychology master in university :D Your channel is incredibly useful, i am actually wondering if you offer any type of online training for therapists ? Would be happy to learn more from you.

    Good advice. I've been to several therapists who seemed to be more interested in hearing my gory stories, than in helping guide my mind to fixing itself.

      Jeff Hohreiter: How did you deal with those therapists as you realized what they were doing instead of helping? Did you call them out, get angry ? Did you pay or not? I stopped paying if they did not what we had agreed upon on the phone and if they gave nothing to help. I have looked for help 38 years and am rather angry at them for losing all this time and energy. I'll have to process the anger resentment and get rid of it, just am stuck in burnout, so no real energy to process properly, and need help to get in touch with my feelings. How are you doing now?

      Physiatrist is a sacred profession, I meant no offense to physiatrists, but bad physiatrists just want to collect your story into their database instead of mending your memory!! When I knew that I feel like, even more depressed 😦 It’s so expensive to get a treatment here and I feel like they fooled me, or they are just not experienced enough to help me

      Therapists don’t want their customers to improve, because they see them as walking ATMs. They usually just use the reflecting technique where they parrot back to you what you just said. I will never see a therapist again, I get more useful info from TH-cam.

    "Memory of a traumatic event is encoded in the amygdala itself rather than processed by hippocampus and so it can not be turned into a normal narrative of a past event".
    Sir, it's an excellent explanation. Today I came to understand the true nature of PTSD.
    I further wanted to ask is this the comparable concept to cognitive knots, which is discussed by some researchers related to explanation of PTSD?

    4:51 sets the tone and the truth of this whole video...having a person recount their trauma in a state of high emotions only sets them back. The person needs to be worked up to a state of calm to tell the experience when they able to. The theory that a person must always be able to talk about or express their experience to relieve themselves of the fear is just not true. It is better to just keep telling others that you don't want to talk about it or can't talk about it especially if if seems to make you emotional each time. No matter how much they may insist or speak of you as a coward or too weak to face your demons, those are the people to cut off until they learn to respect your timing and your trauma. As for the victim in this story with her uncle rapist, she did too well to even show him kindness even at his fragile age of 80 even if she was in a better place. I certainly would have kept it to his face and to others even if he never apologized. Painful story but good advice video on PTSD.

    This sounds so useful, thank you for posting it. I saw a psychiatrist for many years who had me revisit traumatic scenarios over and over (what I refer to now as trauma reminiscing) and it wasn't helpful, very activating and highly dissociative.

  • @ARichardP
    @ARichardP 5 ปีที่แล้ว +25

    Good talk. Thank you for posting.
    “Talking things through” and going into great detail can have many hidden re-traumatizing pitfalls. For one thing, it exposes a person to be seen through a certain lens by another (the therapist or therapy group members) and judged or imagining being judged. And we do it to ourselves and live in fear of that.

  • @Lancetronium
    @Lancetronium 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Thank you for posting this. I cried as the video was ending and felt relief at the knowledge that I could get help for my PTSD without exposure therapy. My doctor recommended I go get that exposure therapy and I found I couldn't bring myself to make the call. It occurred to me that I've already talked about and gone over much of those events over and over again, but still feel intense fear, anxiety, and stress every day for years. I know much of what I do on a day to day basis is all done to avoid reliving the trauma and I'm not even sure what, in all of the horrible crap that was happening to me, what I would've told the therapist anyway. I suppose now, after watching this, it's something I can't clearly remember.

    This information has given me so much hope. Thank you. I can relate to June's situation, as I'm still haunted by a very similar situation. However, both my psychiatrist and psychotherapist have diagnosed PTSD (complex) and recurrent depression, so I'm wondering if the rewind technique is also possible for CPTSD, and, if so, where I could find an expert to deliver this in the UK. So far my psychiatrist has just been pushing antidepressants and sleeping tablets on me, and my psychotherapist uses psychodynamic "therapy" and just waits for me to talk. I don't feel like I've actually had any therapy.

    It's very important to remember a traumatic event, one would not want to repeat or create a traumatic event, but many do, despite not remembering a traumatic event, for example look at how many children are abused by their own parents, and often these so called parents have been abused by their parents, so it's very important to remember a traumatic event. Often victims and offenders have no conscious memory, making them a danger to others and them selves. Sure it's unpleasant stuff, much easier to work on a lightning quick no effing about phobia cure , and very rewarding, these things work, a competent hypnotist can do this in less than a hour.

    wait you are in the uk. can you please push this information on to other medical providers because here in oxfordshire all mmy past drs just ask questions the same things over and over. and when i asked why i had to go over it again and said that going over it all the time was making made everything more intense, they told me it is how ptsd is treated. that was all the "help" i got. now i get very little sleep because every night several times i wake up from the nightmares, it like i am trapped in it as well sometimes. i hate going to sleep and i fight going to sleep. which doesn't help. but my nightmares leave me so worn out that i struggle to control my sever emotionally unstable personality disorder (which i get no help with) so now i am stuck in a loop as not not sleeping means i struggle to control my emotions which make the nightmare worse and i get more flashbacks which leads to bad nights then staying up and back around again and again. its so bad i cant think straight last time i asked for help i received nothing but information on groups. my head was so bad i was almost ran over because nothing click in my mind. i almost asked to be an inpatient but then i would never get to see my children

    Stephen Parkhill had cancer and many other diseases healed with reliving and releasing trapped emotions. Flashbacks are not reliving, it is a trigger and creates flashes and pieces. I respect your knowledge, but we have had many positive results with releasings feelings from traumatic memories. With your methods, the emotions could stay stuck in the body and that is usually what causes great health conditions. Feeling and releasing trapped emotions from past trauma is extremely important. You guys have so much knowledge and information but always want to dismiss emotions. I get it, you don't want to get your hands dirty, but feelings store in the cells and organs, so just because you are tying to re categorize the event does not mean the feelings leave.

    That is worse. Or maybe my problems bother me because they have been berated and I don’t understand what is wrong with me. I do mention PTSD, but I keep getting told that I am loved and I am fine. Lately, I have been getting dreams about being screamed at. My problems are considered delusional. This makes me angry. I have more trouble sleeping now. My eating is worse. I am
    ashamed of myself. I need to get out of my anxiety, but I am older and it might be too late. That maybe it is hard to believe because I kept it to myself. I have been to asked to tell what happened. It came out with me to be diagnosed with bipolar disorder and highly conceited. I just did not want to talk. My doctor thought that I felt great about myself when I was really feeling horrible about myself. There may be no way out.

      The same technique will help phobics overcome their phobias for example.

      I found this at the end of The Filming of Trauma, with Gabor Mat`e and want to do this so badly. I'm doing brainspotting now after trying EDMR. This is what I need. Hope this helps. You can purchase the series of the film and it explains it. Also there's videos and searches for therapists in your area. Mine doesn't have any. Nothing unsure. Nobody knows the word Trauma here.

    Skip to 7:07 or get triggered. You should really put a trigger warning on this vid. Really really not good to e subjected to trauma from your beginning story.

    So titled ptsd treatment without reliving the trauma...😠😭 well I just had an overload yes it is irresponsible as though you are intentionally trying to trigger someone on purpose
    This is the most sadistic material I have ever had the unpleasant misfortune of viewing.
    How dare you
    No amount of telling myself I am currently safe will ever work.
    You should have started the video over half way through.
    This is not helpful....
    In short he says see a hypnotist do not watch this video if you have real trauma currently present
