    i own Zenith, Tudor Chrono, Speedmaster Panda,Bretling,IWC, Vacheron Constantin, Rolex, etc.
    This WMT Montana holds a special place in my collection and gets worn daily, i’ve paired it with a Ginault bracelet and at 100m WR it’s my daily beater, GADA. Awesome watch love the nod to the past and the robust seiko movement used.This is one of my best everyday watches.

    From the details from their photos, I checked the movement would cost around 400usd and my watch smith friend said this movement is not cheap too. So 1345-400= 945usd. Usually, the case would cost around 200usd including the bracelet. So 945-200=745usd. And you can see the thickness from normal replica case so it would require a new mold too and it would cost more money per unit. The dial also has the extra patina effect too so need to include the human power cost as well. Then the total cost now is around 600-700usd. According to our friend in Microbrand industry the unit cost is usually 50-60% of the MSRP. So I would say this cost is reasonable but the price is really high for an homage watch. But like other brands like Steinhart/ Alpha or even Grevil this Daytona homage did a really great job on the details and size. Might be the best homage in the market now.

      Thanks heaps for such a detailed response and it makes total sense now. As a business there are other operating costs that they would need to factor as well so I guess the price is somewhat justified plus its a very limited production run so you never know could be the next Gevril! Just need one famous person to feature it on a popular channel or blog ;-)

      @@BasicallyWatches Exactly, and after the research now we know for black and white the total qty are 100pcs per color. So 200pcs as we know now will go into the market. If the mold cost is around 2k then each one would have 100usd mold cost. Grevil has 6 models and each got 500pcs so maybe this WMT might have the potential be the next famous homage watch.

      I've had mine for the last +2 years and it's a robust vintage looking watch. I've used mine during swimming, cycling and as a daily beater to the office. I like the 3 register reverse panda look on a 37.5m watch. By the way the case thickness is 12.5m and the crystal added gives 14.23m thickness advertised. So relatively slim watch.

    Another Great budget "Daytona" Homage is the Gigandet Race King... Not many available but can be had for under $300. One detail I will point out about the Race King is they use a Miyota MecaQ which has the cool 1/20th of a second sub-dial. Personally when it comes to Chronographs I do like to see action on a sub-dial in addition to the main Chronograph hand.. it just looks cool. as opposed to what most every other MecaQ Chronograph does and uses the wasted 24 hour Sub-dial?

    since seiko's movement is a parallel and possible replacement for the mechanical 7750, of course 1K price tag isnt too expensive! not many equivalent modern mechanical movement out there!

    How can you say so much yet so little...
    So is the watch good? Is it bad??
    You literally made a review, you dont have the watch and there is no point in this video. Is it worth it? If i wanted to make up my mind with no info i wouldnt have to see your video.
    - The Steinhart is around 5 cm tall so any shaving off the height is a huge win, and it should be the reason to go for the WMT
    - Dan Henry is a quartz so its mechanical vs quartz
    - Alpha Daytona is a nice piece of fun but it will break within 3 years, the dimensions are again wrong as its too big in diameter. Redundant 24h aubdial
    If you cant compare the watches, i guess i have to do it:
    If you want to go for a PN homage on the higher side of price:
    Take this if you want a better movement, column wheel and vertical clutch vs Steinhart which has a 3 hander with module.
    Steinhart if you really care about 'swiss'
    The WMT has the dimensions going for it.
    This VS Dan Henry and the Alpha:
    Dan henry is not mechanical and a lot cheaper. But its no paul newman and thats what you want if you even consider this
    So its the WMT vs the Alpha:
    Alpha is nice fun for a year cause it will break after that and its uneconomical to let it repai. Just buy a new one.
    The WMT dial proportions are better, but its slightly taller

      Hi there thanks for your comment. As I stated at the start of the video this is not a review and I was asking the viewers for their opinion on this piece. I was contemplating getting it but couldn't justify the 1345$ price tag for a micro brand and that's why I wanted to get my viewers thoughts. Thanks for your detailed explanation this is definitely helpful and greatly appreciated. I'm not an expert by any means just a regular bloke who is passionate about watches and looking to build a community and engage with other watch enthusiasts 🙂

      @lordbogus6709 your analysis is spot on. I have owned Steinharts in the past and again as you've rightly stated the Steinhart proprtions are all wrong. WMT for me when compared to steinhart as the proportions on WMT is excellent. The case is around 12.3mm thick, including the plexi you get 14.23mm thickness so not bad at all. The movement re vertical clutch and the proportions was i picked WMT. Alpha isn't great re QC and movement. Dan Henry is a no go with the mineral crystal, poor QC and really poor customer service.

    To answer your question - NO, I would not spend $1345 for this watch. Too many alternatives that are just as alethically appealing, but cost a lot less.

    • @BasicallyWatches
      @BasicallyWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I agree

    • @lordbogus6709
      @lordbogus6709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, The steinhart is 900 euros and the WMT is 1300 dollar which is almost the same. He forgot to convert USD to EURO, so its only 200 euro more.
      - steinhart is 800mm thicc, and way to big in diameter. Seinhart is just a cam module on top of a 3 hander, this thing has a litteral column wheel and vertical clutch which makes it technically superior. Unless you really want swiss but then you could say that a 500$ hamilton is better than a 5000$ Grand Seiko
      - Alpha paul newman is trash for a year and then it breaks. Size is just wrong. Way too much diameter. Also redundant 24h clock
      - Dan henry is not even in the convo, a quarts and has very different styling
      Anyway, almost none of the Paul Newman homages are close to the real thing and they all have issues
      This video does not make sense

  • @tonyzeno2715
    @tonyzeno2715 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I agree 100% far too expensive... I am a chronograph Lover.. and this dial layout as far as being 3 register, Sub-dials are spaced properly and are the proper size etc. and the fact its trying look like the Newman Cosmograph.. That all Great.. WMT also has my personal Favorite with a green dial and arabic numerals.. but close to $1400. It should be priced around 6 to $700.... but WMT could of kept the dials and thrown a MecaQ movmt and made them around $300 and I would of been just as Happy.
    Also according to WMT website most of their watches are all Sold out so you would have to try and obtain a pre-owned but even those are asking near full price.. They are not but not worth it.

    Is there any other watch with this movement that will be cheaper? Also do you know the price of the movement? I have a WMT Subdiver and in some areas it is a disappointment, but I have to admit it has a vibe like no other

    • @BasicallyWatches
      @BasicallyWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hemel does a watch with this movement for under 1k www.hemelwatches.com/products/hemel-hft20
      The price of the base movement varies I saw it on a website for about 500$
      I think WMT executes the vintage elements quite well. I love my WMT Panton aged edition

    • @lordbogus6709
      @lordbogus6709 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BasicallyWatches Hemel is sold out so it doesnt matter
      - Hemel thickness: 15.2mm which is even worse than the 14.3mm this had
      - its a totally different watch
      -its around the same price
      Tudor has a breitling caliber in their chrono. The breitling is 7k, the tudor 4.5k. By that logic nobody should buy the breitling. And yet people buy the breiting

      @27madnoor I own the Maen Skymaster and the WMT Montana Reverse Panda. The WMT has a superior movement and is more faithful to the 6263 Rolex in lots of aspects. Maen is an interesting watch but doesn't have the heritage vibe that WMT offers on the wrist. I enjoy the Skymaster too but if i had too chose between both i'll take WMT all day every day!

    I don't like WMT. In my opinion it's a fashion watch. When I was playing around with their customizing feature (which doesn't even have many features), I asked about getting a custom dial and they said I need to spend 2000.00 with them in order to do that, which is absurd for a company advertising themselves as making custom watches that only offer base seiko movements.

    • @BasicallyWatches
      @BasicallyWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh wow I didn't realise it would cost so much for a full custom dial. I guess if it's a one off, production costs increase but good to know. I don't mind WMT as I mentioned in the video I own the Panton Kuwait edition and it's well executed. A tad on the pricy end but I didn't mind cause of the emotional connection and it was limited to 50 pieces. I have done a full review on the Panton Kuwait edition so do check it out.

      @@BasicallyWatches Whats wild is they said the custom dial, as in just a printed logo, would cost an additional 180.00 but they'd only do it if I spend 2000.00 first. Scam.

    • @k2288057
      @k2288057 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      My friend made a customized watch for life and as I know to have a custom dial need to open a new mold. I guess the reason why it is so expensive is that not only they need to open a new mold for the print but also consider the extra cost for the time and worker. If you asked a small workshop should be cheaper. Usually, it would require a basic MOQ when we ask the factory to do something they never did before. So I won't say it is a scam but they're just not able to do small custom service.

      For an automatic seiko chronograph this is a bargain. If it was quartz you can justify that statement but this is a pretty top notch movement for this segment of the market.

    Why I pay 1300-1500$ to this small brand when I can get a nice original design from Hamilton ? Swiss made, In house movement based on 7755, customer service around the world. What can this brand offer? Just copycat profit watch. All of their watches are overpriced

    • @BasicallyWatches
      @BasicallyWatches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That was my initial thoughts as well. I was really considering buying one but couldn't justify the price. I get were you are coming from in terms of originality and design, regards to the pricing, one of the viewers broke it down nicely in the comments section which made sense.

      This is so incorrect! Speaking as an owner of WMT. Cannot compare this to a replica highend or low end replica. QC On WMT are excellent.
