Broken Rolex Submariner Restoration - $11,000 Diving Watch

  • This time I´m restoring a Rolex Submariner from 2008. It´s powered by the Rolex 3135 Caliber.
The watch is in bad condition. The case is scratched, the glass is broken, and the bezel is completely destroyed. Surprisingly the watch is still running but not very accurate.
After polishing and cleaning the case, the movement gets a complete service. The bezel and glass are beyond repair, so I need my time-machine again ;)
After everything is cleaned and polished, I can re-assemble the movement with some fresh oil. After that, this watch is in a fantastic beat (+1 seconds per day) again.
I hope you liked this restoration, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

My favorite scene in Toy Story 2 is when old man Geri restores Woody to like-new condition and stitches his arm back on. The way the entire scene is shot, underscoring even the most mundane tasks such as opening a drawer or shaking a paint jar, always stuck with me.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I am reminded of that scene.

The thing I like about your videos is that you are a Real passionate Professional watchmaker. The tools, you used to open the watch, cleaning all of them, assembling the watch back together, I mean you use a dedicated tool/machine for everything. It's mesmerizing to see all the steps. Awesome job with this one. And I reckon this is the best video you showed us so far. Not to mention the intro :)

Bullshit, he's no professional watchmaker whatsoever. His work is amateur at best; especially in servicing the movement. Any legit watchmaker can look at this work and can tell there is a lot to be desired.

Yes! This really helps! It helps us to move away from the generation that has the ability to press a button or go to a store and pick up something from the nearest market gondola and pay the credit card and we see that the creator made everything from micro to macro made of micro and invisible bricks! We are used to the shell, to the packaging and we don't see the richness of the content, behind the plaster, we didn't see it, the houses, the concrete buildings, were made of small grains of sand! Or of small brick blocks, due to the finish, the final artwork, the artist's success, the beautiful, final painting! But everything has a work done with love, patience, simplicity and humility, of joining the insignificant, a coal, carbon, transformed from humble origins, into a Diamond! But what had to be faceted, polished, in the hands of the Divine craftsman! It was Suffering for the Diamond, and Fun for the Craftsman Divine! Now we rejoice, the Diamond and the Craftsman! We are a jewel of God! he is satisfied, it is the Joy that we are one! The illusion passes! The permanent reality is always joy Joy! It's what we are! Joy of love!

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Dude! The opening salvo was spectacular! 👏👏👏👏👏 I almost spat my coffee through the nose.
The blackout over Europe was also epic and the outro music was unexpectedly good, for someone "classical-totaler".
The repair was no less spectacular. Thanks for delighting us with your great work.
The cinematography is from another planet. Your videos are a thing of beauty. I'm left perplexed. The tools... one imagines the time, care and love you've put into this hobby. I'm an admirer. 🤍

Honestly you can tell why someone would go through the painstaking work of fine watch repair. It's akin to classic car restoration where an impossibly abused or damaged vehicle is transformed into a breathtaking work of art. That finished piece was a marvel and the fine watchmakers of Rolex would be proud to see new life breathed into their creation. Excellent work and super entertaining presentation! Let's hope the owner avoids rogue water towers from here on out.

As much as I hate the fact that Rolex watches have become horological Unobtainium for most of us while some folks sit on entire bank-vaults filled with the damn things ... gotta love those watches for their attention to detail. I especially love the way their movements look. Not a whole lot of bling but still so beautiful, IMO. In a no-nonsense, industrial design kind of way - definitely beautiful but more "function" than "form". Even as an amateur I can see why watch-makers love to work on those movements.

From the look of the crystal and bezel I'd say someone had a motorcycle accident and gave their watch a bad case of road rash!

I think that part was kind of a joke.. he replaced the glass and the tachymeter with new parts from Rolex… my assumption based on his style of humor throughout the video

I really appreciate watching the restoration of these damaged “unrepairable” watches. What fascinates me just as much is the superb tooling and equipment used to accomplish the work - those tools in themselves are works of art.

Yeah i would agree, i wonder if he makes some of the tools himself? Regardless, level detail is just impossible to describe
