I recently scored an allocation for a base 911 at MSRP. I have previously purchased two Macan's at this dealership but I doubt that was a factor. The best way to get an allocation is go in and pay your $5,000 deposit and wait. It's amazing how allegedly hard to get allocations suddenly appear once you put down a deposit. 💰💰

I ended up just going pre-owned and have been very happy. I also make it a point to do all service at that dealer, even if it’s more expensive than a local shop, so I have more opportunity to pop into the showroom and just talk to people. I feel like I’ve started a great relationship with the local dealer and can get myself on the wait list when I’m ready. The other benefit of starting with pre-owned is the almost immediate immersion, if you want, into the social element of it. Opportunities for relationship building grow exponentially at that point. I’ve been really happy with my decision.

One thing that may work for others on the relationship building step - prove to the sales associate that you actually drive your cars. This will heavily depend on the sales associate, but with no relationship whatsoever, I drove to the dealership in my 75k mile Viper GTS. Explained I drive my cars and have wanted something refined like the 911. He was excited to see the Viper and said would rather see me in a 911 than the long list he has of people just flipping them. Few weeks later I was putting my deposit down on a 2024 Carrera T.

@@DrivenA111 Right now there are more customers than cars. The sales associates need to make calculated decisions on who gets an allocation. Heck, I recently found out they only have so many allocations for gifts during the build process (was lucky enough to get one of the model cars). You will likely need to stand out, beyond just having the money, to get a 911 allocation.

Interesting video and almost entirely accurate. The Rolex business model I noted in the comments is pretty accurate too. You can't waltz in and buy a Daytona if you've never bought a Datejust. But maybe if you've bought a few watches over the years you MIGHT get a call when a GMT or Daytona becomes available. They're simply not going to call someone who has never done business there before. This holds true for Porsche dealers too.
One thing I will dispel the myth about is the "list". Yes, all dealers and their individual Brand Ambassadors maintain lists of prospective buyers. But this is only a list. It has no real bearing on who gets an allocation. When an allocation becomes available the dealer is going to look at several factors when deciding who gets offered the build slot. #1 are they LOCAL? #2 are they previous customers? #3 do they have a trade? #4 are they willing to pay an ADM? # 5 will they finance or lease as opposed to paying cash? Honestly, #4 is probably the least important factor. Being a local is EXTREMELY important now. PCNA will penalize dealers for selling out of their market by withholding future allocations. I would be shocked if you find a dealer willing to sell you a car from out of state unless it has a huge ADM. That's the only way the dealer can justify it while being penalized. Being a previous customer obviously helps too. You are always going to offer someone who has bought several cars from you an allocation over someone new. Next, have a trade if possible! Of course dealers want trades so they can have another unit to sell. Good cars are still hard to come by and chances are very good that if you are buying a 911, you probably have a car that the dealer would like to have in trade. Next be willing to pay a reasonable ADM. $5-10k over for a Carrera is not unreasonable when used 2021's are still selling for over their original MSRP. Heck last time I checked here locally, KIA was getting $15k over MSRP on a Telluride. Just keep it in perspective. And don't bother crying about it to the manufacturer. Dealers are all independent and can do what the market dictates. Lastly, consider financing or leasing even if you can afford to pay cash. I know rates are high but that's not the dealers fault. If you finance or lease (especially if you go through Porsche Financial Services) the dealership gets a little bonus. It ain't much but I've literally seen a customer chosen over another because they were financing as opposed to paying cash. People that think paying cash is going to improve their chances are kidding themselves. If you have to, finance the deal and then pay if off in 6 months with the cash you have.
The most important thing you said that I agree with is that you need to go in person and make a connection with your Brand Ambassador and anybody else on their management team. I can promise you that this goes SO much further than submitting an internet lead with a build code and waiting for an allocation. The old stereotype of scummy sales people is largely a thing of the past, at least when it comes to Porsche. Most Brand Ambassadors that work for Porsche are enthusiasts themselves and would like to help you make your dream come true. Remember that they are in a tough spot too as they usually have to give 9 out of 10 people bad news instead of good. Lastly, when you DO go into your LOCAL dealer to make the connection, come in with a positive attitude, check your ego at the door, and tell us what you are trying to accomplish. No matter how much money you might have I can promise you I have customers that have more, and treat me with respect. I will always go out of my way to help if the prospective buyer is someone who genuinely appreciates what he or she is buying, enjoys the process and is a pleasure to work with. There is no more sure-fire way to guarantee you WON'T get a car than acting like an entitled jerk!
I have been with Porsche for over 12 years now as a Brand Ambassador and hope some of this advice helps your viewers.
I wish you the best of luck moving forward and hope you get that allocation soon!

This was the most insightful response I’ve ever had. Including my other channel. Really great info and makes feel better about my path to a 911. I did get a local allocation for a 911T no ADM. pretty much everything I stated is what I did to get my car.
Question for you. I am super nervous about. I want/plan to register car in my business name that is of course based out of Montana. Since I’m registering out of state will that muddy up the waters with the dealer?

    • @michaelanderson4318
      @michaelanderson4318 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@VisionT7 Congratulations on the allocation! The T is an excellent choice for an enthusiast and I'm sure you will love it.
Ahh yes the old Montana question. This is going to depend greatly on the state you live in and the dealer's policy toward this. From what I hear, some dealers don't care one bit but I assume they are located in states that don't actively monitor these transactions and won't penalize dealers that sell to tax-haven states. While there is nothing "illegal" about registering your car to an LLC based in Montana, it's certainly shady - at least to the dealers I work with and follow. Occasionally there is a legit reason to do this but in my experience it is simply trying to dodge the tax associated with your purchase. Most of the Montana LLC's I have dealt with are little more than a PO Box in MT and if you dig deeper it will be an attorney's office that the buyer hired for a few bucks to use his or her address. I will tell you that the dealer I work for stopped selling to buyers using the MT strategy about 5 years ago after another local dealer was fined $250k for allowing this practice to continue. Our state (Nevada) has become very aggressive in tax collecting and will audit dealers to make sure taxes are collected. To keep it as simple as possible - if you have a NV driver's license - you are paying NV tax no matter what. If you get pushback from your dealer on this, do not let it get in the way of acquiring the car. If you have to pay tax on your purchase just do it and pretend it's the ADM. In fact, I'm not sure I would even mention your MT plan as the dealer that gave you the allocation might get cold feet. If you are close to your Brand Ambassador maybe feel him/her out about this but be prepared to abandon your MT plan to keep the allocation if necessary.
One last thing about the MT thing: Here in Las Vegas this was a common practice for many years. One major problem is that virtually all the cars running around Las Vegas with MT plates are exotic cars. I still see a number of Ferrari's, Lambo's, Mclaren's, etc. rolling around with the MT plates. Guess what the average Joe thinks when they park next to one of these cars? "Just another rich asshole that refuses to pay their taxes like the rest of us working stiff's". I can't tell you how many stories I've heard of these cars getting kicked, keyed, or believe it or not - peed on! I'm not saying this is right but let's face it, a guy walks out of a casino after having a few drinks and losing his rent money at blackjack and sees a Ferrari with MT plates parked next to his F-150. Guess what happens?
My advice at the end of all this is to simply register the car where you live, pay your taxes and suck it up. If you do pursue the MT strategy be prepared to have the dealer take away the allocation - and I would not risk that.
      Best of luck!

Hey man good information. When talking to one of the Porsche sales ambassadors, they said the lack of cars is due to a two year transition. I bet it’s regarding electrification. Also lots of low miles 911s have a built in ADM. Some dealers also want customers to purchase another vehicle prior to getting an allocation. Pretty crappy. Try Isringhausen in Springfield Illinois.

However, they said it was going to take 2-3 years! For a 911 Carrera!
So after about 6 months of waiting all of a sudden last month they called me and said there was someone that bailed on their order and I could leapfrog everyone. One catch. It was ordered by the customer as a European delivery. We decided to take it and use points travel and go get it.
When we walked into the office to hand them a check the salesperson told me get ready to turn in that 911 soon because now I’ll get my build much sooner!

I found 3 dealers in my area who were charging MSRP for locals. I got on the list at all 3. I went for a 911 T mainly because for some reason people don't want them and the list was way shorter. 5 vs 20. I got a last minute 2023 when someone backed out after waiting about 3 months. Had to lock the spec in 2 weeks. Then a couple months later another dealer got me a 2024 that I turned down because I prefer the 2023. So I was able to get 2 cars in about 5 months.

Was looking at a turbo s had no idea this was the state with Porsche. There’s no way I’m kissing someone’s ass just for the privilege to spend 300k with them. Especially when there’s other brands out that that simply command more respect and attention than Porsche. I’m not an enthusiast by any means just want something nice. Can’t imagine this being good for business. If someone goes with another brand then it’s likely they get locked into that brand for future cars.

I agree. I think it’s a way to deter the people who buy their cars to hold an resell for higher price. Porsche wants their cars driven an with people who are loyal to the brand.
I just hate the markup crap. Drives me nuts.

I don't get it, I want a specific car, I have the money why can I not walk into a dealership and buy even a used car? This absolutely sucks.

They hold all the cards. Limited stock and giving preference to reoccurring customers. Same thing Rolex does.

Sorry not my cup of tea if i need to kiss the ass or agree for an insane markup for a car. Porsche is a good car but not more than a good car to justify this insanity.

Right. I’m right there with you. I got offered a few allocations at markup. I laughed at them. One team said no markup just give them a chance to buy back.

I had to let my search cool off for a bit. Was on the hunt for a GT4. Found one at a local dealer in Brooklyn. But that deal fell through. Asked for an allocation on a GTS 4.0 and they wanted 10K over. Went to another local dealer and they said getting an allocation wouldn’t be an issue. Went through the entire song and dance. Wait for them to take my deposit and nothing….
To me it isn’t worth paying over on a car that isn’t a special car. Prices are cooling off a bit…Will see what happened next two years.

Silly comment for a guy who missed the point of the video. I’ve bought 31 cars in 16 years ranging in types. This is my path to getting one and I think you missed that. How about showing support to a person that is passionate about these cars instead of putting them down. Just an idea 🤷‍♂️

Good video! I was thinking of combing nationwide while on local NW lists. No local mark-up on Carrera S..unicorns now. 15k local mark-up on GTS. GTS manual steering column and PDCC unavailable.Unsure on base Carrera or T lists. Cayman/Boxster already slated for ICE extinction. GT product unobtainium. Good luck, everyone!
