From NYC here… I put my name on 6 waiting lists for 992 allocation in early July. I went as far as Mechanicsburg, PA. Told each dealer I’m only interested in MSRP, no ADM. Only 2 dealerships required refundable deposit.
Ultimately, I probably got lucky but I think production is accelerating and also people are backing out due to economy. If you’re seriously in the market, get on multiple waiting lists!
3 weeks later, I get a call from 2 dealerships that an allocation is available. I ended up going with the Mechanicsburg, PA (3 hrs away from me) since they were the first to get back to me. I have an expected delivery date in December with all paperwork signed.

Here's the thing, you'll never get the car. The dealer will 100% sell it out from under you. You may think your contract is solid, but trust me, it isn't.

Just to add to this. I purchased my Taycan out of state from Mechanicsburg, PA and this was during the time that getting a Taycan in mid 2022 was next to impossible with ADM. Most dealers didn't even sell outside the market. Overall other than a slip up with my LA delivery option which was fixed and taken care of, everything went well and the car is still doing great. Their dealership worked out well for me so I'll recommend them.

  • @raceboy1971

The only way you will get one without having a long standing relationship with a dealer at anywhere close to MSRP is to buy an in-stock vehicle or 2 off the dealer's lot.
If a dealer tells you they have an allocation for you otherwise, they are simply using you to get the vehicle into the dealership to then sell it out from under you.

When I bought my Ferrari 488 a few years back, I had to sign a doc saying that the dealer got 1st option to buy the car if I wanted to sell it. I also believe that there was a limit on how much I could sell, it as well (but don't recall the terms exactly). While I could understand why the brand wants to do this, it doesn't stop things like my local Porsche dealer trying to resell a 992 GT3 for 40% over MSRP (which is just dumb, and they weren't able to sell it at that). So, it just allows dealers to flip and mark up cars. They all do it unfortunately.

Another issue is that even with a base or Carrera T with few options, interest rates plus the increase in base prices are forcing many folks into leases unless they have all the cash to buy the car outright. I was fortunate the dealer did MSRP and didn't add ADM, but in previous years (pre-pandemic) I would consistently get 7-8% off MSRP even if I ordered the car instead of getting it off the ahowroom floor.

Porsche may not like ADM's but they exist here in Texas. Several dealers I have talked to have ADMs (San Antonio, Both Austin dealers, Plano) the ones that don't require you to pay ADM require either to have previously purchased a car, or you need to buy some car off the lot to then turn around and trade. That includes them requiring you to finance with them for 6mo. and buying warranties.

Since then (it’s now Nov. ‘23), there have been several opportunities for a T allocation, still time to configure to their spec (my SA has asked me if I know anyone looking). What is Porsche doing to stop ADMs? Most dealerships I’ve gone to in FL want 25-50k ADM for a 992 GTS. And I’ve had a 991.1 S, 991.1 GTS, 991.2 GT3 and currently have a 718 Spyder (bought at MSRP) (all purchased at Porsche Hawaii) and a 996.2 Aerokit. Just like many, I grew up with a 911 poster on my wall. I must say though I’ve turned my back on 911’s for now. Cars in general have gotten so fast and the 911 in my opinion is insanely overpriced right now.

One: Car collectors and investors know that hybrid and electric cars will take 95% + of the market for new cars starting 2025. Starting either 2024 or 2025 the 911 will be all hybrid (with no ice offerings) & this hybrid variant won't sell well or be adopted by 911 purists.
Two: Car collectors and investors know that most Porsche models bought at the end of the production cycle for gas engines ie 2022, 2023, 2024 will be rare and sought after.
Three: Porsche doesn't produce that many 911s. 911s are a boutique small production run vehicle, even at their price.

@@Art-is-craft Agree to disagree. I was told this directly by Porsche of all people, so you’ll have to forgive me if I’m not fully buying into yer analysis. Some of what you say is true, obviously, but not fully. This is for sure at this point. They are all doing it to some degree. The Pandemic showed them their new business model that will persist. That is their intent at this point, despite what you say.

Germany right now has an overage workforce with the largest number of workers being in their sixties. Industrial energy costs in Germany have increased ten fold. BMW have seen the price of their products increase by about 40% over the last decade. This is not my personal analysis it is the accepted industrial condition of Germany.

Wrong. There are really no 911 cars available in the US at all. Especially in major markets. Wrong again in that if you order a 911 you can get it in about 3 months. Check TH-cam for examples.

Yes the 911 is there best car, but the rest is suspect, so don’t buy there other stuff, don’t use there service depots.

It’s hard to buy one new because most people make $60k a year.

If you don’t have relationships, you can make $400k a year and still not have one in your garage. The money gets your foot in the door of course, but a lot more to it than that sadly

No absolutely no other brands have achieved such perfect engineering as Porsche. Some brands can be as good as Porsche in a particular domain but will be worse on the others domains

There are only two sports car brand options and that is corvette and Porsche. Next up is super cars that cost 3 times as much.

Porsche can keep their cars to themselves with the dealer markups, all the tantrums and attitudes. My business is going to Corvette. It's a faster, sharper, more exotic looking car with ZERO tantrums thrown at the consumers.

That’s fair - very different experiences and each great cars. New Z06 looks like an incredible experience, just wish they didn’t kill the manual!
