    Maybe this is just much more advanced technique, but how do you treat the incoming water with dechlorinator or are you using RO? And how do you know how much old water you've swapped out if the new water is mixing with it as it drains?

    How does new water enter the aquariums?

  • @michaelbrandle
    @michaelbrandle 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video! Question for you, why did you choose 1" for the overflow pipe vs 3/4"? The tank is small, so I would not think that volume would be an issue. The 1" would take up more space in a smaller tank. Getting ready to drill some and would like your feedback. Thanks!

    • @fishboy1415
      @fishboy1415  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you! I chose 1" because I pump a good amount of water in with the auto water change system, and for each tank, including the larger ones I have, it makes sure that there is no overflow. I've seen other people use 3/4 in with no issues, so I'm sure either would work for you

    • @clintfockler1113
      @clintfockler1113 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fishboy1415You are reducing those 1" pipes down to 3/4" behind the tank. So the 1" pipe inside the tank does not actually increase the volume of overflow you can handle.

    • @fishboy1415
      @fishboy1415  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@clintfockler1113 I'm aware, but that's what works for me. It's much easier to work with tubing that is 5/8, which fits on 3/4 adapter vs a 1 in adapter which would require thicker wider tubing. Works for all my tanks no issues

    @fishboy Did you build the lift tubes for the Matten filter or buy Swiss tropicals?

  • @tl2177
    @tl2177 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for the video, very helpful, especially the parts list. I am curious however: most of your tanks don't seem to use this method. Maybe it's some sort of reflection but most of your tanks seem to have a horizontal pipe coming in the back, some cut on the diagonal, with bubbles exiting the tube. How does that system work and why don't you lose fish? Thanks!

    • @fishboy1415
      @fishboy1415  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      All the tanks use this method. What I think you are referring to might be the matten filters? The horizontal tube is where the air is lifted, they are like sponge filters

    • @tl2177
      @tl2177 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fishboy1415 Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not trying to poke holes, only to understand. I don't know if I can include a picture but maybe I don't understand the filter concept. I would really appreciate a video on that. In the picture I'm seeing, there is only one pipe coming in to the tank. In your original video on 55 tanks look at minute 3:31. There are two tanks with what I'm describing. I don't see other pipes coming in. Just one with bubbles coming out. No return. Please help me understand what I'm missing. Thanks!
