  • In an exclusive interview with the Toronto Sun, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre said that if he forms government after the next election, he plans tax cuts for Canadian families, especially the working poor, to help deal with the high cost of living. Poilievre made the comments after touring Toronto's Daily Bread Food Bank.

The drug addiction problem, the crime, the carbon tax, the price of housing is the worst in that province. You can't blame that on the east! Manitoba just elected an NDP premier. It's only the Conservatives that are changing the landscape in the West. I think the West has to stop blaming the east and vote Conservative. The NDP also had major influence until recently in Alberta. I couldn't believe that when Notley was elected. We all need to do what's right. The feds are actually building houses. This has been a minority government that followed another minority government for six years.
At ANY time Pollievre could introduce a motion to lower your taxes. He's NEVER done so. For the carbon tax, your PROVINCE is free to have a cap and trade like Quebec. Thats NO carbon tax.
In fact POllievre JUST openly screwed you for political gain. The NDP have supported TWO conservative proposals in the past two years to eliminate the carbon tax on farming. Its VERY likely that the NDP would have supported not increasing it in April. Pollievre made SURE that that NDP COULDN"T support it by making it a non confidence motion. Meaning, the NDP would have had to collapse the government and force an election in order to stop the carbon tax increase.
If Pollievre wanted to, he could have just made it a regular motion like the last two that the NDP supported and we wouldn't have the carbon tax increase (or the increased rebate).
But Pollievre WANTS you paying as much carbon tax as possible because he wants the election to be on that, and preferably ONLY that.
So get real. The guy cares about as much about you as Trudeau does.

If you actually want to lower home prices and renting costs you need to do these things:
    1) Cut immigration drastically - mass immigration has created excess demand which has placed upward pressure on prices. Mass immigration actually caused the housing crisis.
    2) Send back the huge number of "temporary foreign workers" and international students in very large numbers. This will reduce demand for rentals and bring down renting prices quickly which will help young canadians the most.
That's what will actually help. We don't need more homes, we need far less immigration. We didn't have a housing crisis before mass immigration.

The average family spends $16,000 annually on groceries, so even if you do buy 100% of your groceries at Loblaw’s, it would save you a grand total of…$5.92 per year. Don’t spend it all in one place, now.
Maybe we should look elsewhere to find out why groceries cost so much. Maybe the amount of farm production being shifted to ethanol production to comply with Trudeau’s “clean” fuel regulations contributes to that? Maybe the fertilizer limitations Trudeau imposed last year caused lower yields and therefore higher prices? Does printing hundreds of billions of dollars reduce the purchasing power of your dollar? Does higher borrowing costs due to the expansionist monetary policy contribute to higher prices? Of course the carbon tax is an obvious contributor.

This shows another problem in our world - obesity is a huge issues in North America. People are eating less because of the cost but obesity isn't going down - why? Because the food they can afford is high carb, high calories, low protein and nutrient food so you eat but don't get what you need from it but because of the calories, you don't lose weight. Cookies are cheaper than meat, also have 0 nutriental value. And on top of that, there is a huge push against raw milk, fruit and vegetables - we keep hearing how dangerous they are and how you should only buy from stores. And heaven forbit you try growing your own, that makes you a prepper and conspiracy theorist ( not that you can even have a garden when you are crammed into cities and apartments). How are people supposed to survive? People used to be able to feed themselves for the most part, now most don't understand where food comes from. Trudeau's policies are making things bad and also exposing the issue in our whole food system.

@@barrybrand2970 lol he had 9 years to address it when he was an MP and later Cabinet Minister in the Harper Government. This will never happen because it is not only low wage workers who work overtime it is also engineers, doctors and accountants who are high earners. It has been agreed upon by all parties that Canada has a progressive tax system. The more you make the more tax you pay.😂

Pierre is my hero, just look how hard he's working for Canadians. look how he's fighting for us, look how he's giving us hope and sacrificing himself for Canadians and Canada. no one works harder fighting for this country. pierre cares, Ive seen him hold back the tears in witnessing and hearing the hardships of canadians. you can't hide that emotion. all Canadians one day soon will owe him a great debt of gratitude. our true patriot and hero will forever be loved. money is nothing compared to the love and great legacy of our great Canadian nation. honor, pride and righteousness are the real value in life. regardless of the outcome. I thank Pierre for fighting for us, caring for this country and giving us hope and humor in the process.

Will the income tax break be for everyone, or just the “working poor”? Some of us have sacrificed and worked our asses off to get into a higher standard of living, only to have our hard work punished by higher and higher taxes. I’ve sacrificed my time with my family to make a better life for them, I’m with the people I work with more than my family, and my reward is that I pay more in tax than most people make in a year. It’s madness. Meanwhile, people who sit on their ass and do the bare minimum complain that they don’t get “free” money in the form or child tax credit, gst cheques or carbon rebates. My family doesn’t receive any of that, because we apparently make too much money. We just get left paying the bill.

Cutting taxes makes middle class spend more. A key group.
That will stir up economic growth.
