LILLEY UNLEASHED: Canada’s job growth numbers flawed by increase in public-sector work

  • Sun political columnist Brian Lilley says the recent jobs increase of 90k workers, in April, is flawed because the majority went to the public-sector. The underlying figures don’t support what the Trudeau government is telling Canadians.

If you actually want to lower home prices and renting costs you need to do these things:
    1) Cut immigration drastically - mass immigration has created excess demand which has placed upward pressure on prices. Mass immigration actually caused the housing crisis.
    2) Send back the huge number of "temporary foreign workers" and international students in very large numbers. This will reduce demand for rentals and bring down renting prices quickly which will help young canadians the most.
That's what will actually help. We don't need more homes, we need far less immigration. We didn't have a housing crisis before mass immigration.

I'm 25 and I can say that the people aging between 40-60 years are doomed in Canada. The mass immigration of students aged younger than these people, are with more energy, more time and are ready to work with full potential at a bare minimum wage in hope of once making it big in canada.
Replacement of these 40-60 years old fellow canadians are happening for which they might never find a job for which they can survive as these minimum wages won't take care of their mortgage itself. Canada has betrayed its population for cash cows who have been sold a false Canadian dream. Neither of the age class will benefit from this. Saving $10000 per year is very difficult in this economy, and these students will not even recover the amount they have invested even if they work for 10 years.

I'm from Nigeria. I got a job at the Ontario courts translating English-language statutes into African languages. I speak Mmbonga and Jobababa primarily. Our community is drastically increasing in Ontario, so I guess the criminal code etc. needs to be more transparent to my people. The pay is really good. I spent 6 months working at McDonalds before I got hired at the court. I've only been in Canada 14 months, but so far things are going great. I didn't even think I had any job qualifications.

There were actually only about 14,000 real private sector jobs created in April. Some 26,000 public sector jobs were created, which do not grow the economy!! Just old money being recycled between employees and government.
This jobs report is very troublesome and reflects what's happening to Canada's economy. It's in trouble!!

Bigger and bigger government just leads to more and more bureaucracy. How much will it cost Canadians to hire all of these people? Where is Canada's GDP? The government has already shown themselves to be inept when it comes to programs it sounds like Trudeau and his government don't have people who understand economics but then again there's a likelihood that they wouldn't even listen anyways. They just do whatever they want to do

Nicely said BL. I would like to see/hear about government wages vs services for the entire government dept.s. Simple ratios of where the tax money is actually going. I am painfully aware it's towards upper echelon pay, bonuses, etc in lieu of services provided. Also, I'm sure many would be interested in the % of born 'Canadians' who actually are hired these days for our own government. A pre-maturely forced 'retired' & unemployed CAF Vet.
