A point of note between the 2 versions is that the SNES version was on a 32 megabit cartridge while the Genesis / Megadrive version was on a 40 megabit cartridge. Hence why there were some extra stuff in the genesis version like the opening having more frames of animation, announcer voice in the beginning of the round and the extra illustrations in the endings.

There was a hell of a lot more missing from the SNES version on nearly every stage I was shocked as I remember the SNES version was touted as THE version of SF2. Quite shockingly bad.
Yeah sound is not very good in the Sega port but it's quite impressive that they could fit the whole game into a genesis, props to the development team
Taking a good look at both versions. They appear to be in the same 256x224 resolution (I know the common res for Genesis is 320x224, but some games on the same system can have the same SNES resolution, speculatively removing the need to rescale the graphics between the two console ports), while the color differences are quite obvious (Genesis having 9bit RGB with 64 on-screen colors + light/shadow modes, and SNES having 15bit RGB with 256 on-screen colors).
8 megabytes extra for the megadrive versión. Expert mode, no reset sound at the end of 1st round, better resolution, "round 1" voice samples, no censorship, full ending animations... All of this is important to me. I choose sega. I miss the SNES more simultaneous colors, more parallax scrolls and better sound. But this things exists because SNES can do it by hardware. I mean capcom did a better job with the megadrive version.
I always thought that the SNES version was the best, but I was very wrong! GENESIS WINS! Sempre achei a versão SNES a melhor, mas me enganei muito! Mega drive deu uma lavada!
I think the extra colors and better quality sound on the snes is more noticeable at first but the Genesis version has a lot of minor upgrades that add up.

With all these differences here it almost makes it seem like its worth getting BOTH versions. And because im not the biggest fan of SF2 (not saying its bad calm down lol) even I wouldn't be able to identify every difference in this game. Only time i'll play it is when i boot up Hyper SF2 on Xbox or Ultra SF2 on Switch! But i really love this video. I like to see more of this kind.
They’re both better than the slow playing arcade port in my opinion. New challengers on the arcade is probably the second worst street fighter 2 game after the original. The snes and genesis ports have the speed increase options with faster and smoother gameplay plus it added a couple of extra modes both single player and multiplayer
@@stevesteve0521 But arcade character sprites are larger and feature many more frames of animation. I would prefer the arcade version over consoles (but SNES version was still an excellent port, no doubt. Genesis version has great graphics but sounds really bad).
Excellent Comparison, we enjoyed every comparison your channel showed thank you. One thing i noticed although SNES showed a bit more colors, but the Genesis seems has higher resolution what i mean is that the colors are vivid and standout ! why is that ? is that means Genesis or mega drive has a higher resolution? This is what me and my friends noticed.
The snes has a color + sound hack too. Check this out lol. Msu1 is crazy overkill lmao tho I feel they could've used arcade ost instead of 3do th-cam.com/video/46j4apvQTHQ/w-d-xo.html
@ 14:50 - Guile's stage - I would add that the Genesis version has more dithering in the sky transition, is missing the extra clouds and has a very unnatural blue tint compared to the SNES version. But overall, despite this and the other minor details missed from the stage, the image seems to have more pop to my eyes, despite having an inferior colour palette. The Genesis' higher resolution could be helping the overall image quality and compensating for the limited colours. @ 15:51 - DeeJay;s stage - the beach in the background is more detailed on the SNES, you can't really see much beach at all on the Genesis version everytime DeeJay jumps, as it's deliberately impeded by an additional hut. Overall though, considering Nintendo had an extra two years to come up with a more powerful console, I'd say the Genesis more than held its own against it and proved its longevity.
"The Genesis' higher resolution could be helping the overall image quality and compensating for the limited colours." I don't think so. This game uses the "low resolution" mode of the Genesis (ie: the same resolution as SNES). It just has slightly smaller black bars.
Both versions are great - objectively there are only minor differences in both. Both versions were technical marvels and brought the integrity of the arcade game home but I actually think that the PC Engine version is perhaps an even greater technical achievement. Sure it has a few more sacrafices than both the MD and SNES games but it's 8 bit Street Fighter.
@@Rakshasa1986 That's more displayable 'area', not 'better' resolution. If the graphics were redrawn to take advantage of it, then that'd be another thing two, but it doesn't. So yeah, it's more 'displayable' resolution area, not 'higher' resolution. I.e. the pixel 'size' doesn't change.
I've always held the Sega version over the Nintendo versions, more frames, more options, blood, 6 button aligned controller, but inferior sound and color though
@@juliovindell264 Meh. Like all Genesis games, it's crisp but not realistic. Meanwhile the SNES version sounds like someone saying "bliff" because of how compressed the PCM samples are.
It really shows in the clarity. I have noticed some SNES ports of games to be slower. I have also noticed some to look better. I was a bigger fan of Sega Genesis myself. SNES was the last Nintendo console I was happy with. Haven't been a fan of Nintendo hardware since.
Maybe the genesis was bigger only in the screen size since the sprites didn't have the color range the SNES had, neither the transparency effect, Genesis had to use dithering since it can't output transparencies.
Not even a contest, yes the Genny version was an excellent port in terms of graphics and voice clips, but in terms of music? It's pants. Like it's so frigging awful compared to the SNES version it isn't funny. It's because of this, that the SNES version absolutely takes the win this round.
In my opinon SNES win.A lot of colors, scenery details, the sound far superior. I think we have an experience more like ARCADE in the Snes version. Many things that were missing from the SNES are much more for the sake of censorship.
Fighting games are also a lot about animations and timings. I had both versions and i could find mostly on the Genesis version the feeling i'd like on the arcade version when playing. The SNES version was the first street fighter i could find fine on the SNES as an arcade player, still on the timing department, very fun even though i'd go for the genesis anytime.
@@jumatub I also played both versions a lot and, in my opinion, the SNES is a lot better. The only thing superior that mega street fighter has is the cover.
Got this on release for my MD back in the day. Cost £70!! Anyways, I didn't know then that it would turn out to be arguably a little better than the SNES version. MD is what I had, and I was accustomed to these games being a little better on SNES. I wasn't disappointed.
Mega Wins!
Played and loved both versions. Never noticed the cammy age difference but I guess it makes sense, doesn’t look good to have a 17 year old girl kidnapped and brainwashed by a grown man. Also I always found it weird that they had the announcer announcing the rounds removed in the snes version. Overall I’ll still take the snes version slightly above the genesis. Good video
@@blastprocessing6223 it’s not slow at all not sure what game you’re playing. You realize both the snes and genesis version has a speed option before you hit game start right?
The aurora borealis is a transparency effect on snes while just a color change on genesis. Both version could go faster in versus demo mode. An action replay code allowed 8 stars speed on genesis. You forgot the secret pictures in genesis when finishing with only perfect or without losing a round or both. Not sure if it was on snes. i came to look again at the video, there are fruits on the herb in cammy's stage on genesis while theherb is dead on super nes...
Im surprised at the amount percent of colors more on the Gen, you would think Capcom could have the blue and red bikini girls instead of the one color bikinis on Balrog(MBison) stage.
I have both. Snes version is better in graphics and sound. Just missing 1 important feature: a great six button controller like on the Genesis. I just don’t like the button lay out on the Snes controller for fighting games.
SNES control is better for Mortal Kombat and Fatal Fury. For Street Fighter, I prefer Genesis/Mega Drive 6 buttons. L and R to high punch and hinh kick is not a good idea...
I always knew the SNES version looked a little better, but seeing both versions side-by-side really shows off how good the SNES version looked in comparison. Pretty substantial differences imo, especially in Cammy's stage. The Genesis version's colors just look very garish. I always hated how the SNES version restarts the music after every round. They should have kept it going like the Genesis version.
Hi, I come from the future and for those dreaming a 32X version below, just know that there is a madman that is adapting arcade sprites for Streer Fughter II, Darkstalkers and Fatal Fury... on the frgfgin' Mega Drive (Genesis)!!! AND THEY LOOK AMAZING! Imagine what it could have been on the 32X...
OH, I FORGOTTEN SOMETHING EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. There is one MAJOR difference between the two versions and it is MORE major than all the differences highlighted in this gameplay video. It's DeeJ'say Machine Gun Punch move. The execution fully works like it suppose to on the Megadrive version as the game registers ALL the hits just like the arcade version. Unfortunately, this move is broken on the SNES version as it doesn't connect and register all the hits. Because of this flaw, it makes the MD version by default the superior version in respect to Gameplay only.
Incredible comparison! Astonishing work! So main ones for me: SNES: More colour, better quality music, more parallax scrolling, colour changes on title. Mega Drive: More animation, no cut ending content, no censorship in portraits, dialogue, in game blood or vs screens, looping stage themes, extra NPCs in stages and endings, tournament mode, additional AI setting, extra animation on attract mode.
Segas version is really impressive. Again what they manage with the limited color palette is amazing.
Resolution is a cheat.

The most sinful thing about the SNES version is the fact that it has some censorship. It's the same evil that SNES' Mortal Kombat suffered.
@16:46 you’ll noticed the difference animation stances for DeeJay. Genesis his arms go up and down, SNES is a slightly circular motion
Good eye!
Also worth mentioning there's missing parallax scrolling on Deejay's stage on Genesis, and Cammy is missing idle animation frames on SNES.
There was a hell of a lot more missing from the SNES version on nearly every stage I was shocked as I remember the SNES version was touted as THE version of SF2. Quite shockingly bad.
@@funky7chunky Smaller cartridge space (40mb for Genesis, 32 for Super NES). Genesis' colors are whack even with extra mb.
@@funky7chunky It was good but yeah really not as good as it was said to be.
Sega Genesis Version is amazing! It's more complete!
True, it's just a shame people don't talk about it because of it's lesser music.

Love this channel.
I always thought the SNES was the superior one as a kid, but looking at it now, I shoulda got the Genesis version.
Snes was better don't lie to your self 😂

@@LRon-ef7ni @Rich Long Damn, he's got a good point. Genesis version makes it better
I think the extra colors and better quality sound on the snes is more noticeable at first but the Genesis version has a lot of minor upgrades that add up.

The Genesis version of Super Street Fighter is impressive and it's still fun to play!
Good job. It blows my mind how MegaDrive (Genesis) could give us such beautiful games with just 4096 colours!
0:38 On MD the VC logo ring spins, but on SNES, the entire logo spins
With all these differences here it almost makes it seem like its worth getting BOTH versions. And because im not the biggest fan of SF2 (not saying its bad calm down lol) even I wouldn't be able to identify every difference in this game. Only time i'll play it is when i boot up Hyper SF2 on Xbox or Ultra SF2 on Switch! But i really love this video. I like to see more of this kind.

Both have plus and negative Sides - Sound goes to Nintendo for sure - Sega has more Animation-Frames but less Colors
Also censorship on the Nintendo.
@@MegaFinalRound yes! Like much Games...
Character animation frames in both versions in-game are identical.
Amazing video. Thanks for your job
zangief gets beaten up on mega drive and bleeds. He gets beaten up on snes and gets skin irritation.
28:59 note the difference in the text: "drug ring" > "empire" and at 29:29 "deadly kick" > "lightning kick".
The MD version with the sound and colour hack is better than any snes version!
Colours of original versions look better on Snes though.
Link. Maybe somebody can add Akuma and turbo ;)
The snes has a color + sound hack too. Check this out lol. Msu1 is crazy overkill lmao tho I feel they could've used arcade ost instead of 3do
th-cam.com/video/46j4apvQTHQ/w-d-xo.html
"The Genesis' higher resolution could be helping the overall image quality and compensating for the limited colours."
I don't think so. This game uses the "low resolution" mode of the Genesis (ie: the same resolution as SNES). It just has slightly smaller black bars.
@@zabustifu Fair enough. Can't tell you why the Genesis image is popping more though, fresh out of ideas, unless it's just signal quality.

Genesis is more powerful than Snes way faster CPU
If you want an experience closer to the Arcade, the SNES Version is the best!! Music sound's closer to the Arcade too!!
Not the same SF2 on PC-Engine, that was Champion Edition.
in some way sega looks better n some other way snes look better
Exactly
SNES has more colours, but Genesis has better resolution.
@@Rakshasa1986 Except, not in this case since they both use the exact same resolution.
@@TurboXray It's a little close, but Sega has better res. You can see the resolution @ 10:31.
Mega Drive/Genesis: 256x200
SNES: 256x193
@@Rakshasa1986 That's more displayable 'area', not 'better' resolution. If the graphics were redrawn to take advantage of it, then that'd be another thing two, but it doesn't. So yeah, it's more 'displayable' resolution area, not 'higher' resolution. I.e. the pixel 'size' doesn't change.
I've always held the Sega version over the Nintendo versions, more frames, more options, blood, 6 button aligned controller, but inferior sound and color though
The punch and kick sounds are better on the Genesis actually
@@juliovindell264 Meh. Like all Genesis games, it's crisp but not realistic. Meanwhile the SNES version sounds like someone saying "bliff" because of how compressed the PCM samples are.
Wow, nice video! I like both versioins, altough I prefer the music on the SNES, and the less amount of blackbars on the Genesis!
Nintendo: plz take out blood. And also reduce the cyclists. People doing casual cardio is too obscene for young viewers' eyes.
Meanwhile, MK2 on SNES : "haha fatalities go brrr"
The snes sprites always looked bigger in comparison but that's because it displayed a lower resolution compared to the sega higher res.
And when playing on a blurry CRT set over an RF adaptor, you couldn't tell it was a resolution thing.
Great video! Thanks!
Best video on the web for this comparison ! Congrats VC Decide ! Have you done the same for SF2' and SF2 Turbo ? It would be interesting.
Not even a contest, yes the Genny version was an excellent port in terms of graphics and voice clips, but in terms of music? It's pants. Like it's so frigging awful compared to the SNES version it isn't funny. It's because of this, that the SNES version absolutely takes the win this round.
Sega Genesis destroys SNES version.
Sega more fluid game play
Parabéns pelo trabalho primoroso no vídeo! Excelente comparação.
Like most games the Genesis versions were overall better
In my opinon SNES win.A lot of colors, scenery details, the sound far superior. I think we have an experience more like ARCADE in the Snes version. Many things that were missing from the SNES are much more for the sake of censorship.
Fighting games are also a lot about animations and timings. I had both versions and i could find mostly on the Genesis version the feeling i'd like on the arcade version when playing. The SNES version was the first street fighter i could find fine on the SNES as an arcade player, still on the timing department, very fun even though i'd go for the genesis anytime.

Good video

And the snes is missing loads of speech, the Music restarts at the end of every round also.
Most importantly lacking 4 star turbo.
SNES control is better for Mortal Kombat and Fatal Fury. For Street Fighter, I prefer Genesis/Mega Drive 6 buttons. L and R to high punch and hinh kick is not a good idea...

So main ones for me:
SNES: More colour, better quality music, more parallax scrolling, colour changes on title.
Mega Drive: More animation, no cut ending content, no censorship in portraits, dialogue, in game blood or vs screens, looping stage themes, extra NPCs in stages and endings, tournament mode, additional AI setting, extra animation on attract mode.
