The history nerd in me is screaming. One major theory as to how we were able to evolve as a civilization is because we are able to absorb more nutrients from our food if we denature the proteins a little first by cooking them
That and our brains run entirely on glucose. We get glucose from carbs - grains, starches, and fruits - and it was the implementation of farming that drastically boosted us into civilization. As our brains grew in size, we were able to make better tools to get the food which caused our brains to grow more (and on and on, it was a cycle of food-brain-tools). To further add to that, cooking food helps us digest it easier. Digestion takes soooo much energy, it's why cats sleep 18hrs a day, to conserve the energy necessary for digesting protein! My anthro professor would be screaming at these people.
@@mamazeta906 That theory leaves a hole, and hole is that there are hunter-gatherer societies that existed long after the development of agriculture with the same level of intellect as the rest of the human population. The Inuit did not practice agriculture and are equally intelligent as societies that did, etc etc. These cultures still had/have sustainable sources of glucose-containing foods through foraging. But yes cooking is important, and also a lack of glucose is a very bad thing. I would not say agriculture is a major catalyst for human development, simply because that just leaves out a ton of indigenous cultures and unintentionally implies agricultural societies are superior, which is ethnocentrist to a degree. Agriculture does sustain population growth, that's pretty obvious, but I would say it's a leap to say that agriculture led to human development as a whole, given how our brain's evolution for the most part happened before the advent of crops. The theories I've heard that make sense involve artistic development and invention spurring the growth of human intelligence, because the other hominid species that existed for a while, the neanderthals and denisovans, have less artifacts that show any signs of creativity. Tools, yes, but no instruments, and other artistic things found with early homo sapien settlements. And that before that, back when humanity was confined to Africa, primarily (but not entirely) coastal groups showed signs of earlier cultural development, pointing to seafood being a major factor in the expansion of human brain capacity, for as of yet unknown reasons.
Honestly that makes a lot of sense. Since our bodies aren't meant for meat technically speaking... If you look at most animals, that eat primarily vegetation they have long digestive tracts to be able to get most of the nutrients they can out of vegetation. Carnivores tend to have extremely short digestive tracts be able to get the most out of meat. Are digestive tracts are actually pretty long, and if you look at our closest relatives monkeys the 96% vegetation, and the other 4% is primarily insects. It doesn't surprise me that people in the US though, don't understand this. (I'm from us) A big part of the reason we get incorrect information in relation to our diet, is because the meat and dairy lobby is a big part of who funds all those health organizations. I'm serious look up who funds Susan g Komen, who funds the American diabetes association, the American Cancer society.... I mean I literally could keep going there's just so much factual information that shows that meat is actually bad for us.... But nature built us, with the intention of us not being able to cook our food I'm assuming. So it would make sense if cooking it does something to it, to make it at least not as bad...
As a nerd for wild cats, I get personally offended whenever people on the carnivore diet act as if lions, tigers, and other stereotypical large feline carnivores haven’t been documented eating grasses to aide with digestion. Domesticated house cats even do it. A little bit of fiber truly will do your body good; even just a little.
Actually every animal eats both meat and plants. Yes, herbivores eat more plants, but they can and will occasionally eat some meat if they have a chance, and carnivores can and will eat some plants. For both of them it's very useful and healthy. And then there is these stupid people, trying to eat only one type of food.
@mif_sovremennosty Exactly! There are tons of videos and even research done on "herbivores" caught eating meat. Like that one video of the cow eating the snake or rabbits eating their own young. Nothing is black and white, especially in the animal world.
@cryptid-king It's been a while since I did some hardcore research, but I think it depends on how much meat is within the diet. Mountain lions will (sometimes) purposefully discard of the digestive track and go straight for the liver, the heart, etc, while bears will eat the digestive track of their prey (and the scat!) to have more plant-digesting bacteria in their stomach. I will do more research on that though, it sounds interesting! Like in the same branch of animals self-medicating.
Cats will eat all kinds of things, and I do believe they actually like the taste. I had one who loved fresh corn, and another who wouldn't leave me alone when I opened a bag of spinach. I've never seen them interested in nuts or legumes, but veggies are fair game for many.
What scares me is that even Hannibal Lecter seasons and actually cooks his food, and he's a cannibal. a cannibal has more self respect than these people.💀

as a dude studying microbiology, seeing that man eat raw brain multiple times makes me feel as if I'll contract the prion diseases from those brains myself
fellow microbiology studier, my immediate thought was yummy Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. Prions are not something to even mess with. I work with them regularly now but granted with a disease that hasn't been proven to infect humans (CWD) but I'm not about to FAAFO. The prion biohaz waste gets autoclaved for like 3 and a half hours. Granted, in the case of CWD, there's a lot of people that think it isn't real or was made in a lab lmao so I wouldn't be surprised if the response from these people was that prions aren't real or something.
As an archaeologist who has studied neanderthal diet, which many of these people claim that they are following, it consisted mainly of plant-based patties filled with seeds, roots, nuts etc. They very rarely ate meat but when they did it was probably a lot of meat due to them hunting freaking mammoths.
Our early ancestors (before the agricultural revolution) absolutely ate plants. The majority of their diet consisted of roots, berries, fruit, seeds, nuts etc. I’m so sick and tired of these people twisting the truth to sell their lifestyle.
Fr, do they think people could afford to hunt constantly? Massive safety risk! What if the hunters all got stomped on by mammoths and left their kids/elders/pregnant women with no food? They supplemented their diet with icky uncool herbivore food. Also, we started the agricultural revolution BECAUSE we ate plants...not the other way around 💀
We've also cooked our meals for literally hundreds of thousands of years at this point. Eating cooked food is a thing that outlives the modern homo sapiens.
@@veryde_3356 Yes, the ability to prepare and cook food ahead of time is literally what helped humanity and its ancestors surpass the other species on earth. Cooking food increases the amount of nutrients you get from it, and extends its "shelf life", if you can call it that when referring to pre-agricultural humanity. That means that humans can intake nutrients more efficiently, and, critically, it means that humans can take food with them without it spoiling immediately and establish reserves. This grants humans the ability to live through extended periods of food rarity, simply by having stocks of food made non-perishable by cooking it. And that's only the logistical side of it. I'm not even going to get into the fact that evolution has done its thing by now, meaning that while humans can consume raw meat every once in a while, our metabolisms will start rioting if it's the only thing we eat. We simply are not made to subsist on only raw meat, it's one of our features as a species. I'd argue that these people suffer from some form of malnourishment, simply because our brains have grown to such a size over thousands of years, that we now rely on our more efficient ways of nutrient intake to Not Die. In summary, the idea of "returning to your roots" by consuming only raw meat is asinine in a best-case scenario, and outright dangerous in the worst case.
I grew up on the mexican coast and naturally grew up eating and cooking a lot of seafood. I cannot stress this enough: Raw octopus can be a choking hazard since you haven't actually closed up the suckers. Not to mention the bacteria and parasites.

On the topic of white people hating seasonings: I went to a local bagel place here in KY, got a breakfast sandwich, and had to add "salt & pepper" to my order since they don't season the eggs. The cashier got so excited I did, and then proceeded to tell me they used to season all the eggs, until a bunch of old white people complained that pepper was too spicy. 💀
Well yeah? Pepper sucks if you don't like pepper, I don't like pepper and am physically repulsed when people load it into pies, over meat, salads ECT.. I just can't eat it. Other spices are fine but pepper is disgusting. When you're ordering eggs it should be optional as there's no real reason they should, by default, add pepper to eggs. I’ve got a friend who is basically doing the carnivore diet non voluntarily, his entire system is kinda fucked up and is allergic to nearly everything, poor guy can’t process gluten, dairy, natural fructose and more. Food is meant to be a good experience so it’s so hard to understand why people put themselves through such a limited and sad diet willingly.
Your friend is one of the few people who benefit from a short term carnivore diet, though I'm sure he misses eating other things. He may have an elevated histamine reaction going right now, and once things in his body calm down, he may be able to start incorporating things back in.
Carnivore diet is infact technically a medically used Elemination diet thats used to find food allergies and intolerance. The only people who don't do well on it are people with lime disease, histamine intolerance and people who consume alot of fats (fats are good, but you are ment to be eating majority protein.) I had to do it because we had to find the foods that triggered my Hyperglycaemia episodes. People with colostomy bags and children with epilepsy are on something close to it with keto or ketovore diets. When done correctly it can help people. I did mine in conjunction with a doctor and I'm very happy to no longer be collapsing from tiredness from Hyperglycaemic episodes. Would I eat raw meat? No. But however eating more meat protein has helped me keep my sugars stable and has helped me feel fuller, less likely to graze on food all day (which is a problem when you are carb addicted - my problem was with eating fruit, I'd find myself grazing on it all day, thinking it was ok because it's healthy.... it wasn't.) allowing my to fast naturally and loose a bit of excess weight I have had trouble with since having my two kids. I think eating sticks of butter is ridiculous 😅 especially if you find out you're lactose intolerant (you find out very fast doing so) same for eating way too much fat when your body can't tolerate it. Do I miss fruit and vegetables? Yes. Do I miss feeling like I'm starving myself because of eating tons them? No. However I am healthier than I ever have been and I'm greatful for that. I may not live forever (who wants that anyway?) But I would like to live it pain, illness & diabetes free. This has allowed me to do that.
I love carnivore diet, I just can't afford it, never get tired of a good steak, or when I did carnivore for a few months I ate a lot of eye of round because it was cheap I'll do it again one day, but not strict like I did before, I'll eat mostly beef and the odd salad because I think salad is delicious, maybe I could make a dressing out of bacon grease and parmigiano reggiano and anchovies, or even just load the salad with tons of feta so it's creamy

It was actually really endearing.
This is the perfect example of why their cavemen argument falls apart. Our ancestors COULDN'T eat meat constantly! That just wouldn't have been a reliable way to support the tribe.

@@raven_moonshine39 Yeah. It's always been more "gatherer-hunter", only recently we started eating more meat in general, and it started with the royals and the high bourgeois (knights, people inside the royal circles and high-ranking christian priests).
But any type of carnivore gets their vitamins from the contents of the intestines of their prey. They do need it, but that is also enough. Carnivores don't eat just clean meat. They eat all the organs and will get some bone as well, making it a very balanced meal for them.
@@plumdutchess Depends entirely on the carnivore. Most carnivores do NOT eat bone marrow. Fun fact about that "spices are irritating to the gut" comment (this is coming from an immunologist, BTW) but there are studies that show a correlative (and steadily growing causative) relation between spices in food and prevention of helminth (i.e. parasite) infection. Meaning, it is likely that we started putting spices on food to not just improve the flavor, but to reduce parasite growth in the meat and in our gut (or, as our ancestors may have seen it, spiced food is less likely to make them sick). So go ahead and spice the hell out of your food :)
This comment makes me think of the entire ayurvedic system of spices doing certain things, along with general herbalism. Ayurveda isn't the end all be all of holistic medicine, but it does do a lot of things right when it comes to spices and foods affecting the body in certain ways.
@@mamazeta906that’s really interesting thanks for sharing… also I’m not lazy I’m just digesting protein 😅
@@mamazeta906 What did you expect? they're not exactly the sharpest tools in the shed.
(I'm from us)
A big part of the reason we get incorrect information in relation to our diet, is because the meat and dairy lobby is a big part of who funds all those health organizations.
Isn't there a popular theory that carnivores will specifically eat the stomachs of their prey for the fiber and sugars they consume?

As someone who did basic home economics and higher biology in school, it's honestly exhausting how stupid these people can be.
Having even basic knowledge about how your body reacts to macro and micronutrients, and their purposes in the body, makes listening to these "carnivores" so annoying because of how confidently wrong they are.
I wish I could explain this to my family.
It doesn’t help that there are quite a number of alleged doctors on the internet who promote this kind of stuff while saying things like, “this is what mainstream doctors don’t want you know about dieting.” All the while talking about how supposedly mainstream doctors and science want to silence them.
Fellas, scientists or dietitians rejecting someone’s stances on health is usually a 🚩
I have taken like two biology classes in my life and one was in middle school and even I know that there's no way in shit you can get all the macro and micro nutrients you need from just meat.
Honestly IDK where you're going that doesn't have two shakers of pepper and salt on the table waiting for you.
There are a lot of places that have stopped seasoning eggs because of things like blood pressure issues of their customers. It really sucks =*(
@@czerniana If its salt and/or pepper, really you can just add your own. I don't see the big sadness in just.. adding it after its warmed? Take it home, sprinkle some atop, done.

No, it does not suck. For people with high blood pressure it‘s better to not eat salt and some people might not like pepper. Most restaurants have salt and pepper or sauces at the table, so every customer can choose.
Simple Tip for cooking meat
salt it afterwards
The salt absorbs moisture in the meat And makes it drier
"Some people eat meat raw"

Of course not. The mentality they have is "nothing bad has happened yet so nothing bad could possibly happen"
especially meat from a factory. usa has zero standards for food regulations. theres plastic in our cheese ffs. This isnt japan where you can buy sushi grade salmon and eat it out of the package.
In South Africa we have something called boltong. It's really good. The meat (specifically beef cuts) are soaked in vinegar and an assortment of spices until it's basically cooked and then it's hung up in a space where no insects and stuff can get to it until it's dry... Its really good... But hurts your teeth if you eat too much (it can be a lil chewy and gets stuck in your teeth)
Most meats are usually fine for parasites (Usually Not always, recommend cooking) , However Raw Pork and Chicken are probably the two most notably Dangers of eating raw meat , Chicken is well known with food poisoning from salmonella ,
While Pork Sometimes contains (Actual Parasites ) Leading to Trichinosis. So yeah the Mentality is stupid , with a bit of research they could learn how bad for their health eating certain raw meats

I guarantee it's because they weren't eating correctly. If you eat correctly you don't feel sick, I've been eating a primarily vegetarian diet since I was thirteen and I'm 27. But I grew up eating me obviously, since I started at 13. When I stopped eating meat I literally can't even tell you how much lighter my body feels...Honestly that makes a lot of sense.
(I'm from us)

One of the most special most unique thing about humans is our ability to cook food. Seeing a man get very mad about how someone is cooking meat is a real reality check to the skull making me realize I may not be a crazy person
Along with the fact that humans can eat almost anything.
god bless you for doing this video, as i am barely able to keep it together (or the contents of my stomach down) watching this. so thank you for taking one for the team, and combing through the horrors that is this subject. 🤢🤢
I love carnivore diet, I just can't afford it, never get tired of a good steak, or when I did carnivore for a few months I ate a lot of eye of round because it was cheap
I'll do it again one day, but not strict like I did before, I'll eat mostly beef and the odd salad because I think salad is delicious, maybe I could make a dressing out of bacon grease and parmigiano reggiano and anchovies, or even just load the salad with tons of feta so it's creamy
I eat carnivore and haven't missed anything.
And I also do not have cravings anymore.
@@sea.imagineering how long have you been eating carnivore? I did it for a few months and loved it but I got priced out because I'm poor, thinking about going back to heavily meat based

my mom is on the carnivore diet and she is so far down the rabbit hole its almost a cult. at this point, shes starting to sound like an antivaxxer with how many times she has told me to "do my own research". i believe its a cult and my poor mother is sucked down it. she doesnt season the pounds of beef she eats and makes things like "carnivore crack". also eats butter...which is disgusting. when she does cheat, she has horrible reactions that she says r fine but clearly arent, like horrible headaches, rashes and moodswings. she has gotten the rest of my household on it, with me being the only sane person in the house. luckily im not forced to eat that way, but every day it seems shes trying to make me more like her. i genuinely worry for these people and notice how they r all white and priveleged advocating for the most expensive way of eating with little real benefits. seeing these videos ridiculing carnivores is refreshing knowing im not the only one but also makes me feel horrible knowing my mother is one of those people who buys pounds of meat and thinks shes helping herself.
I'd there's any way you can have a doctor's input as part of an intervention, do it.
You're acting out of love and fear for your parents health and safety. Even if she doesn't like hearing it, maybe it will soften her reaction knowing it comes from a place of love.
…you may want to double check how she’s cooking food you eat and what she’s making it in
My moms on carnivore too….not fun 🫤
Please tell her to get a doctor to check her cholesterol
I didn't even know this was a thing. It's definitely giving me vibes of vegan content some 15years ago, that also spiraled into raw vegan only diets. People swearing it was curing all diseases, and everything. I even remember this youtuber that was convinced her previously hazel eyes turned lighter because the raw vegan diet was "cleansing" her body.
I guess it was a matter of time before someone went the opposite route and did meat only which is just sad.
11:30 Japanese person here, this made me think about one of my favorite foods, sashimi! It’s raw fish and it’s SO GOOD! With some sauce too? Amazing. But at least I put shoyu (soy sauce) on it most of the time…
Working as a nurse on the cardiac monitoring unit of a hospital around the time that the south beach diet became popular i saw many younger people admitted for blockages in major vessels. The only other reason there were younger people admitted to our unit was usually cocaine.

I have so many food allergies/sensitivities and also a whole bunch of autoimmune issues. Eating strictly meat, eggs, and occasionally dairy has been the only way for me to feel functional.
It does take like a week before you feel better, so yeah that 24 hours of carnivore you did you probably felt awful.
Interestingly enough, after a while with zero sweet things, your tastes sharpen and all those seasonings get overwhelming. I still use some, but very little.
I watched one where it was a vegan survivalist and a meathead guy that disagreed with her views .
Overtime she had kept her energy up and was doing good eating her leaves and berries, while he had no energy and felt like he was drying because he could not find anything to eat. She eventually found a frog and was so generous to actually bring it to him for him to eat even though it when against her values. They both came out with a new respect for one another. It was actually really endearing.
oml enemies to lovers 😭😭
This is the perfect example of why their cavemen argument falls apart. Our ancestors COULDN'T eat meat constantly! That just wouldn't have been a reliable way to support the tribe.
Compromising your values of respect for sentient life because a full grown man decided to put himself in a situation where he refuses to nourish himself properly is anything but endearing. That’s weakness of character.
@@christinabellini537Well it’s pity, not weakness. But yeah sounds like the guy sucks.
@@christinabellini537I have to disagree. Living by your own values is honorable. Forcing others to live by them, when they do not want to, is not. She didn’t compromise her values. She saw someone in need and helped them in a way they could accept. Absolutely he should have realized the error in his ways, but people won’t always do that. So she kept to her own values for herself, but allowed herself to branch out for the need of someone else. That’s compassion, not lacking integrity.
I'm surprised how he hasn't gotten food poisoning yet or something even worse. It's also pretty amusing that there's a tier called "the lion diet" considering that lions are obligate carnivores, meaning they don't eat vegetables purely because their bodies can't digest it.
Also, carnivorous animals (especially the larger predators) need to eat much more meat in a day than any of these ‘carnivore’ humans. Lions need around 5-7 KG of meat.
Also, there are vitamins you can’t get from meat. Vitamin C and E for example.
I have a colleague on this crappy carnivore diet who thinks that we, as human, can't digest any vegetables nor fruits. I think she dies a little when she see my meals, Wich are almost vegetarian (I hate the taste of meat but still eat some because I know it's good for me)

It makes sense that spices and seasonings would also make food safer to eat!
