I like that there is a lil spoon to measure it out, I counted around 6-7 1mm pellets per spoon, how often do you feed you bettas that quantity? just trying to find some help on how much to feed mine because my pellets are exactly the same size. thanks in advance!

      What? No guppies or betas or any other tropical fish that people “find” in these videos? I mean, surely they can survive in our summer heat. The fact that they would die and be unable to breed in our cold winters is as irrelevant as any of these other impossible-for-the-fish-to-survive environments people seem to find overly dense populations of amazing sea creatures in.

    There are places where there are wild goldfish. I've seen it in like abandoned buildings that get filled with water and then all of a sudden there's colonies of massive goldfish. But that was not the case here. If these were naturally occurring in some area where it flooded and then the water receded there should be big fish everywhere too

    • @eph2vv89only1way
      @eph2vv89only1way 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Are you sure they are goldfish? I know the desert has some species of fish that hatch when it rains then lay their eggs as their puddles dry but they aren’t goldfish. Adult goldfish in the proper environment are 18+ inches long!

    • @FishForThought
      @FishForThought  2 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      like they've become wild, right? not naturally wild

    • @HeyItsJA
      @HeyItsJA 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      In a lot of those abandoned buildings, those fish are the descendents of other fish that have been abandoned there by irresponsible pet keepers. I've seen a few of these videos, and many of them are in areas where goldfish do not naturally occur, plus they look like the brightly colored varieties seen in the aquarium hobby. If an area gets populated by wild fish, those are usually native fish whose eggs have been carried by waterfowl (ex. a 2020 article published in PNASUSA showed that soft-membraned fish eggs could survive the digestive tract of ducks to be pooped out into new bodies of water).

    • @Pugboy35Man
      @Pugboy35Man ปีที่แล้ว +2

      In abandoned buildings, most of the cases are fish keepers purposely dumping their unwanted fish their and that is what caused them to become large colonies. They are not wild. Pre sure goldfish are not a wild fish as they are artificially bred, same case with koi since they are all types of carp

    • @erinhallmakes777
      @erinhallmakes777 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes to clarify there are fish that have been abandoned and become large wild colonies. I don't think they naturally occur anywhere in the wild anymore it's only when somebody's dumped them under or banned them and they start to move into flooded areas or buildings

  • @tcvfan2
    @tcvfan2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    The puddle video reminded me of when i was a kid and the river would flood, when the water went back down in the fields there would still be large puddles and in them would be trapped river fish (usually always small bluegill/panfish). We would get a bucket and collect as many as we could and dump them back in the river so they wouldn't die when the puddle inevitably dried up.

    I work a pet store rn like you did, and I've already quit. It seems that there is both a "my care will somehow outshine the care parameters thru either sheer will ( people desperately trying to say they'll do as many PCWs as it takes to keep non-nano species in a nano tank) or not understanding how the parameters will behave" OR they are one of those people who think they know everything when the know nothing.
    My person like that this week was a man who came in to insist that a "we can't charge that much much for ""weasels"" (he kept sayings that ferrets and weasels are the same. they aren't, same genus only. and that because the wild polecat is native to here (also not the specific animal I'm selling but its closer than saying weasel.) He should just drive a state over and catch one. That conversation just got more and more inane until he lost interest in the mammals because "they were too expensive"
    -and then started trying to buy our largest showroom Kois and put them in a literal 15 gal COLUMN TANK. A column tank happened to be on super reduction and he just wanted to leave the store with a cheap thrill of immediate gratification, without listening about how they pee where they swim and it will hurt them to stuff them in that small tank. I ended up just being like "sir, none of these are rechargeable toys, and If you want TOYS theres a toy shop up the street and around the corner" he was becoming rude with the staff cause we weren't playing his bitch-ass game.
    I don't think that kind of person can access their hypothetical empathy till something comes for their heart, cause you can explain the negative consequence and the 1st response is like "but will it skirt by and barely live so I can do this my way?" ...... no brain cells, but think that the INTERNET and the TRAINED ADVISOR know less or are "exaggerating"
    Great episode tho! I really love you, kgtropicals, and girl talks fish. You guys consistently address great topics like proper stocking choices, getting stuff started and explaining why/how stuff affects each other, as well as reviewing trendy stuff in the industry and telling us about it without the marketing edge [like some people do sororities badly, and you've pointed that out.]

    I actually subscribe to an attorney’s law channel, and he went over that whole California deciding bees were fish thing. Apparently if you open up past legislature to be reworded it tends to cause issues because then everyone wants to change every little thing. So they have to make rulings on if something could fit into the existing definitions used in the legislature before they open it up to be “fixed”. In this case some invertebrates were already classified as fish because they were aquatic, but the definition didn’t specify that inverts had to be aquatic to fall under that part of the definition. So since they are for sure inverts, and the law wasn’t specific it was much easier to just slide it in there so these endangered bees could receive immediate protections.

    EDIT ADD:
    The plant is Water Sprite rather than Water Wisteria.
    Water Sprite is a fern and is bushier than Water Wisteria which is a flowering plant
    It can be grown as a floating plant or anchored in the substrate
    Ceratopteris thalictroides is also known as Indian Fern, Water Fern, and Indian Water Fern.

    Oh! Hold on! I lived in a city when it got flooded and I know someone that got the fright of their life when out assessing damage in their garden because a fish went past their foot. Turns out there were a couple of goldfish ponds in gardens in the general area and the fish were swimming all over the place (in very bad, seweragey water). Anyway, there are two endings: a sad and a happy one. The person I know managed to rescue a couple of them and...gave them to the kid next door to put in some probably far too small wee tank. The happy ending (possibly also a saviour for the fish next door?) was a knock at the door and a woman with buckets in a wheelbarrow was going round the place, because the same thing had happened to her (fish swimming past her foot in, like, the rosebeds or something) and she was all "these fish do not belong here and the people who keep these might be frantic". So she hunter down as many fish as she could and went round the houses and gardens in the area, both rescuing fish and asking folk if they were pond owners and if they recognised their fish. I don't know who she was but she has my respect, because some folk got angry at her because they thought there were more important things when folk's houses were being flooded. But she went round saving fish lives and getting them out of veg patch puddles anyway. But yeah, not like the guy in the video. I mean still horrible water and puddles. But when you have an emergency like fish in puddles, you do not take your wee tank round with you - you grab some buckets, throw them in a wheelbarrow, and start knocking on doors.

    Funthing, once when it flooded here, the river went over it's banks by quite a bit, flooding fields and such. Our family went on a walk, and we found literal LARGE goldfish in a field. My aunt picked them up with a trashed pan, and carried them home like that. They lived in her pond for a few more years.

    I went in a PetSmart today for the first time in many years. Their fish mostly didn't look so good, except one particularly colored up Convict Cichlid that was protecting fry. However, to their credit they had it listed on their goldfish label that a 29 gallon was the minimum size tank. They also had 5 gallons listed for their Betta. And then I also heard a worker there telling a customer they need a filtered tank, which is great. But then they have a whole wall of micro tanks with betta and goldfish in the picture on the box
