There's a better way to transform SS Hot Rod's legs. 1. Separate the legs from the the spoiler. 2. Raise the spoiler. 3. Make the legs do the splits. 4. Unravel the red from the legs. 5. Fold the legs out. 6. Collapse the red in. Finally, swing them in and rotate the waist. In regards of the qc issues, I'm pretty sure you just got a bad copy. I have two of the ss86 hotboi (I bought one and then got one as a gift) and neither have any issues whatsoever.
I think I don't have any "serious" QC issues on mine either, but when I rotate the right arm back (the one with the pizza cutter) it suddenly becomes stiff. And with the fact, that the butterfly joint doesn't seem like it was made from the best quality plastic, I always have to handle that specific part carefully. Which is a lil' annoying, but manageble I guess......
despite all of its flaws, POTP Rodimus isn't that bad of a figure, primarily because of the play value that something like it has. It's also a neat little attempt at making effectively Powermaster Rodimus lol.
A lot of people transform the shoulders incorrectly and then cite the shoulders as the worst aspect of the figure. It's hard to take criticism seriously after seeing that so many times.
@@lonewolf9578 my version of SG Rodimus transforms slightly better than my version of Rodimus, but the molds are still exactly the same aside from the head. Anything fixed is just a coincidence of QC
Yeah. He's absolutely fine with visible screw/pin holes, but headlight paint that's only 85% saturated or logos that are misaligned by 0.01mm he considers egregious, for example. And I don't remember him holding PotP Rodimus's completely two different shades of red against the figure at all, etc. Lots of stuff like that. Like you said, they're his opinions and I'm glad he's not afraid to differ from the crowd, but I just can't agree on the majority it.

Man after my time with 86 and kingdom... I would say 86 is actually appealing to me. Kingdom is better but I rate 86 in its light flexible wieght feel in hand. It reminds me of the 80's fun factor of GI-Joe's. And a decent vehicle mode.
Evolution Rodimus may not look as good as Kingdom but he definitely brings the play factor. At the end of the day, I think that’s what a toy should prioritize.
I found it to be just a bad toy. Only had the sg version for one week and sold it. It had to go. Lost money, but at least its gone and not stinking up the joint.
You say that like if Kingdom Rodimus doesn't have alot of playability when it comes with a lot of accesories, poseability and it's compatible with weaponizers from Siege and Earthrise's base modulators. High disagree with you my friend, a figure can look good and have a ton of play value at the same time.
Debatable when we're talking about CHUG, which is aimed primarily at adult collectors. I found the figure to be dull and ugly. It looks and feels cheap.

As a kid I never thought that, plus I reckon the outcome would have been the same regardless of hot rod getting in between the two because megatron would have still gotten the gun he shot prime with
While I don’t hate the character nor the movie for this, he technically is the reason Optimus died. Optimus had his ion blaster pointed right at Megatron, once he saw that pistol he would’ve turned Megs into Swiss cheese. But Hot Rod jumped in the way even though Kup told him to stay away from the fight. Had Hot Rod not gotten involved, Optimus would’ve survived. I don’t hate the character, the movie, or even the scene, but Hot Rod is the reason Optimus died. And yes people like overreact and think this scene and the character is a disgrace to the franchise or whatever, yeah they’re psychotic.
@@awesomusprime8611 nope, because optimus would still be killed because he was to busy f'ing monologging. Megatron would've picked up the gun and shot anyway. I will say this slowly. It. Was. Not. Hot rods. Fault. Sure, he shouldn't have jumped in the way, but its still not his fault
The model he's using to compare hot rod to isn't even the correct model. It's the cheaper model from season 3. Studio series 86 Hot Rod is based off his movie model so his colors and shape more represent what his movie model looks like.
The model from the movie and the show it's essentially the same. Both Rodimus and Hot Rod use the same model (only with a different head), AKOM used to give him awful colors during some of the late season 3 episodes.
For some reason people think that a cheapo design that was intentionally made simple should be a master template for what a character should look like. That how we get ugly figures like MP-44 MP-10 did it right and gave us the character with improvements to elevate it to masterpiece level. No one in the world would tell you that figure isn't Optimus, but it has extra detail and sculpting to make it come to life in the flesh.
45:10 Having a Piece Of The Pizza Rodimus Prime myself, I can say that his Headsculpt has the exact same bags under his eyes like the Kingdom one. The difference is that since the face is painted in a bright non-metallic white it simply doesn't cast the same sharp natural shadows that the darker Metallic Silver does to the Kingdom Roddy.
@@DrLockdown I agree with your points. You weren't anywhere near hard on it. It's not a perfect figure like a lot of reviewers make it out to be, but you give it plain and fair, which is good
Tip for closing Kingdom Rodimus’ trailer: make sure the side panels of the turret are up, not down. The trailer won’t close properly because with those panels down, the turret pushes against the roof.
I think SS86 hot rod has a great transformation. I don't have Scourge quite yet but 2nd to Grimlock he's the one I take off the shelf most to transform. Bar the pipes popping off all the tolerances are Okey dokey on mine Also this review Opened my eyes to something I hadn't noticed on Kingdom Rodimus' uncombined vehicle mode, it's super knobbly. Like, it's just got so much... Stuff? Going on? It's hard to tell what it's going for
Best review of these molds I've seen until this day! Note, I don't really like the little arms visible on the sides of Rodimus, so I tend to just keep them upwards, as smokestacks in front of the shoulders. That also hides the pins on the legs/arms of Rodimus ;)
This has made me feel more mellow about Kingdom Rodimus, but I still have a hard time justifying the Commander price when I really just don't like Old Man Rodimus.
Probably already had a bunch of comments, but the butterfly join on Hot Rod works better with the arms straight ahead specifically for holding the matrix . Great comparison
This review was the final straw that made me buy POTP Roddy. I just love the playability and the fact that I get 2 toys in 1. Heck, I even went and spend a day to make him an upgrade set that helps turn Hot Rod into a Siege scale leader (with new feet that gives him ankle pivot and new extended forearm with rotating wrists) so now he can be Rodimus as is. His Evolution gimmick ended up being my interpretation of a Powermaster Rodimus. So now I get 3 toys in 1.
Kingdom looks like the trailer attatches to the rodimus vehicle. It's meant to look like its one big vehicle. Its bizarre how much the WFS line screwed up 😅
37:01 “The figure is too big. It should have been slightly shorter” 37:32 “The sword is too small. It should have been slightly bigger”. This review comes courtesy of the Upside Down.
I feel Kingdom Rodimus falls victim to the same MP44 treatment, a very amazing figure with added crap to artificially inflate the price. The main figure is amazing for a mainline figure almost being a literal masterpiece, moreso than the other figures because of added articulation: double elbow and knee joints, opening/closing hands with separate index fingers, and an opening matrix compartment. I cant say Ive had alot fun with the ranges of articulation this figure has. If this was a standalone leader class, I wouldn't be disappointed with the price. But then without his "trailer" we wouldn't have his signature alt mode. Thats where I have my gripes, if they had made him leader clase, they could've made some compromises with the trailer similar to ER/KD optimus. In fact a smaller trailer would've been better for me because sometimes I see the trailer as being too big.
Dr. Lockdown: “the color matching on SS86 Hot Rod’s windshield is ATROCIOUS” Also Dr. Lockdown: doesn’t mention the horrible color matching on PotP Rodimus’s plastic
There is a fix for the shoulders locking into place. It’s a tab at the back of the shoulder piece and if you get some clippers skinny enough you can clip it off. Now they work a lot better, well except for the actual rotation that’s still to tight. I tried to add some grease to fix it and I think it actually made it worse. I did it to his left arm and it’s tighter than it was before. Whenever they actually release the Velocitron Hot Rod they fix these damn tolerances.
Hot Rod didn’t kill prime he helped in his death but Megatron killed prime you should hate megaton (plus hasbro since magnus could have just been Optimus but I’m happy he’s not)
Mini-Con compatibility is probably a happy-accident type homage to the Unicron Trilogy era of figures (mostly TF Armada) in which one of the gimmicks was the mini-cons being used to unlock weapons for both the Autobots and Decepticons.
Really excellent job with this review! You earned my sub with this one. I appreciate how well founded your opinions and observations are, especially when they are contrary to my own feelings on these three guys. Videos that reinforce our previously held beliefs are boring. In any case, this comparison covered a ton of ground and must have been a lot of work…work well spent. By the way, you made me regret selling my Party of the Pigs Rodimus. 😣
I actually like the trailer of Kingdom Rodimus. My only want with trailers is that it can hold carbots inside, and that the main robot guy can turn it into a battle station or base to hang out in. Checks my boxes. Basically all deluxe carbots fit in Rodimus's trailer compared to Optimus trailer which could hold siege prowl, earthrise prowl, and cliffjumper. Plus the multiple layers of plastic and the turret the literal size of a voyager make it feel super good and the secret compartments are awesome in my book. I do think it would be cool if it could do more tho. Maybe if the front turned into like a chair or something IDK. I only wish he got his own unique blast effects that could store in vehicle mode
Also the trailer is doing what the original trailer did, and with the already mentioned secret compartments means it does more than before too. I think people just whine because they can't buy him due to price. Rodimus needs the trailer to complete the look, you can't get away from it.
45:02 Doctor you are not alone on that hill, I owned Stakeout and he was one of my first combiners along with the legends ROTF Devastator, and I fucking loved him, PCC is one of my favorite Transformer Toylines and I think it is God Teir, so I SHALL DIE ON THAT HILL WITH YOU!!!!!
POTP - I went for the Unicronus version because I wanted to get Nemesis and I also collected Shadow Commander (Ultra Magnus), and I bought the guns to match his Machinima appearance and they not only cover the hands in Winnebago mode but I also use them as clavical fillers, using those screw holes, I just wish you could of had the backpack like Cell's wings. SS86 - I like the design of this figure, best hot rod design I've seen since his Animated version, maybe Classics. And with show accuracy and playability in mind, what do you think of Scourge? Kingdom - Did not want him for the very same reason I don't like Optimus, I hate having a useless, $50 trailer lying around collecting dust, barely tolerated Astrotrain's because I love the rest of him, and same with Shadow Commander's bazooka, because the rest of that one is excellent, reason why SS38 Prime is my representation of him (would of bought Netflix version if I didn't).
This video was great. I never got the POTP Rodimus because I just could NEVER find it/Same with the Kingdom figure. I don't like the stuff from SS86 Jazz, but I love SS86 Hotrod. Weird, I know. I cannot wait for that new rumored Transformers Legacy line where we'll get new figures based on fan-favorites from all the different eras like Prime Arcee. GOD, I love Prime Arcee SO MUCH.
Where I don't have Kingdom Rodimus (because the inflated price-point didn't justify the play value to me, either..) I do have 86 Hot Rod & PotP Rodimus. And I have to say, between the three, PotP Rodimus is honestly my favorite, so much so I even went out of my way to get Rodimus Unicronus. He's chunky, big, the accessories are nice, the sculpting & detailing is nice overall, the engineering is great, and he's just overall a fun figure. Thanks for this comparison review, even if I am 2 years late lol.
@@DrLockdown Sorry to say but those timestamps are not in the description either. I tried watching this video on my phone to see if they appear there but still no timestamps are present. @@DrLockdown no. It’s just mentioned on the Wiki. Personally, I like the more weary-looking face, as it seems to match his old Marvel Comic look, as well as the Last Bot Standing comics, but that’s just me. I don’t even own him, so in person it might be completely different.
I would personally give it to PotP, as it feels the most like it was designed to be a fun toy to play with, which is something I personally find very important. That being said, this comparison has given me an appreciation for Kingdom Rodimus. I've gone from having no interest to maybe picking it up one day (at least, picking up the core figure and not caring if it doesn't have the trailer)
Power of the Primes is my definitive Rodimus version. First off, I think the car looks GREAT. Yes, there are other versions that look even better, but hey, this is a car plus trailer comparison, not a car compared to other cars. Secondly, the trailer becomes a part of the actual robot and I LOVE that. I have always had a problems with TRAILERS HIDING IN OTHER DIMENSIONS AND THEN JUST SHOWING UP OR VANISHING AS THE ANIMATION CREATORS SEES FIT! Ehrm. So, for me the POTP version does everything right. Except crappy stickers. And paint mismatchings. And a few things about the trailer. But overall, much better than Kingdom. The more I see of the Kingdom version, the more I realize how good the POTP actually is. Except pieces getting stressmarks. Yes, that too. But ASIDE from that...I love the POTP version. Or at least like it more than Kingdom.
I think the SS86 isn't a good comparison with the other 2, not because Hot Rod and Rodimus should be treated as separate entities, but because it's not designed with the same propose as the other 2. I would have included the Titans return in this just for another figure that isn't trying to invoke Rodimus Prime at all. It's like comparing the POTP Prime to the T30 Orion Pax and Earthrise Prime.
My Hot Rod lost most of it's tight tolerance issues after the first few times transforming. The weird ports on the pizza cutter are so it can "combine with the Guns when mounted on the vehicle. It doesn't look very good, but it's technically weapon storage...
you are WAY too hard on ss86 hot rod, to the point it makes you look biased against him for whatever strange reasons.... Yes, I know you gave him a 3 of 5 ratings, but look at the amount of nitpicking you did on him... For example, things like the butterfly joints on the shoulders don't really affect his ability to pose, yet you counted it as one of his flaws. Same thing as the Matrix Chamber. Hotrod never put the matrix into his chest in the movie. He only gained that ability after he became Rodimus. Hell, you even had an issue with his crotch area's design and compare it to a diaper when it's actually one of the most well-engineered crotch Hotrod had in a long time. and you are being way too forgiving on the PotP Rodimus. It was a pretty decent figure at its release, but it's horribly dated now... No, being a combiner doesn't excuse dated design, and lack of articulation. His shoulders after becoming Rodimus are HORRIBLE, but dude it almost became a strength to you..... Who cares how high you can rotate the shoulders if it's connected to a stick? I know this is your opinion and it's fine that you like PotP Rodimus more... but man I was expecting a more objective review.....
I pretty much agree with all of this, how could he complain about the vehicle mode proportions of ss86 hot rod but say nothing about the overly simplistic and blocky vehicle proportions of the Potp one! I can’t even really imagine how someone could look at those two vehicle modes and like the potp one better
I don't totally agree with you on this, however I will say that POTP Rodimus isn't terrible. I still have mine next to my Takara Powermaster Optimus from that Combiner Wars mold on my Headmaster shelf. I kinda look at it as a sort of Powermaster Rodimus, like as if Hot Rod wanted to be more powerful like he was when he was leader and I think it works there. SS86 Hot Rod though I think is a marvel of engineering in many respects. There are issues, such as a big yellow hinge in the roof, unpainted rear rims and some peoples copies having tolerance issues, but to me, not as many issues as you had with this one. True he isn't as fun to transform but the level of engineering they put into a figure that size still amazes me. Kingdom Rodimus though I totally agree with you on that. I'm not into the painted wing and I will be painting the rims silver but everything else is really great.I even like the trailer if not those segmented side pipes Here's hoping for a 3rd Party pipe fix, a color molded yellow spoiler and maybe a replacement face, lol.
Power of the Primes Hot Rod is technically inaccurate because he was going for toy accuracy instead of show accuracy, like Velocitron Speedia 500 Hot Rod, same mold as the ss86, but totally different deco, more accurate to the original toy as opposed to the animation.
31:21 those hole on the saw is where you can plug the side of the guns into those holes. then you can plug the gun saw combo onto the vehicle mode and the robot mode back
@DrLockdown This has been the longest I have sat on a Transformers review and it was very satisfactory. I have ONE tiny piece of critique that you could had used in a comparison of the Rodimus/Hot Rod in the transformations, and it was that Studios 86 borrowed the leg transformation from the Titans Return Hot Rod, if not, just took it entirely to the point that their feet are the same. Otherwise, for as long as this review video was, it was surely a very good and fun one.
Be careful with the smoke stacks of the combined mode arms. Im not sure if this issue is present on the original version but Rodimus Unicronus has the smoke stacks cast in red translucent plastic covered in silver paint. One of them actually snapped clean off on my copy and the paint chipping made it clear what plastic was used. So yeah, be gentle with thos pieces.
Idk man. I feel like a lot of your criticism of the SS86 Hotrod feel quite nit-picky. The vehicle mode is quite wonderful. The robot mode is quite stellar as well
Not sure why, but despite this guy’s distaste for the ss86 line, i like every release they have, outside arcee. I do think theyre good as is. Ill take them over most other iterations because i never actually experienced the other molds
SS 86 Hotrod is AMAZINGLY GOODT!!! POTP Evolution Rodimus is also pretty dang sweet, too. But I have yet to get my vile clutches on Kingdom Rodimus Prime. But I WILL…Eventually!😊
So, this is gonna be a novel. The only Transformers (or collectibles period) that I collect are Hot Rods / Rodimus Primes. I always make sure to get at least two copies of each so I can display bot modes alongside vehicle modes. Sometimes I'll grab a third to have a MISB. As you can see I am pretty fanatical about my Hotrods. He was my first G1 transformer as a kid, but it is more than memories...I legit love his design. Some of my favorites are FT17 (which I think is the best looking bot-mode Hot Rod), Metalverse Rodimus statue, and MP09 - despite being a TERRIBLY engineered and poorly-transforming figure, its Convoy mode is absolute perfection and wonderfully gigantic. In my opinion it is the overall best looking vehicle-mode Rodimus Prime, with MP28 being the best looking vehicle-mode Hot Rod. A few pleasant surprises came in the form of the Mech Fans Toys Flame Commander. Despite being relatively small, he was an incredible value for his cost upon release. He is extremely fun to fiddle around with, has a wide variety of modes and is very detailed and good looking in all of said modes, especially the truck mode and bot standing in trailer battle base. Of course, DX9 has a good offering with Carry. I personally like Carry's convoy mode a lot more than his robot mode, even if it is quite a bit smaller than it should be. So. Here comes Kingdom Rodimus. I adore the robot mode, even if the wing tips are way too blunt, and like the Studio Series 86, he has all these weird deep grooves and mechanical detail lines all over his body. I am okay with this release not being 100% G1 cartoon accurate, even though that is what I prefer in a figure. I love all the cool accessories he comes with. I do not mind the high-ish price tag. I love his many display options. I absolutely hate his vehicle modes. Both of them. I hate the convoy mode especially, because it is around 20% too stretched out, and the back tires of the car do not line up with the middle tires of the trailer, a flaw that sticks out like a sore thumb once you notice it. The problem is that shortening the whole truck wouldn't do any good, because the car sticks out way too far. It is hideous. The Hot Rod car mode has a massive, ugly rear end. Had it not been for the trademark big yellow spoiler and flame paint job I doubt I would have even recognized this vehicle mode as belonging to Hot Rod. Hot Rod is meant to be sleek, wedge shaped, flat, aerodynamic...and while his vehicle does become thicker and more stout in Convoy mode, it is simply unrecognizable in this iteration. I do not like it. I liked Studio Series 86's vehicle mode despite all the weird circuitboard-esque "mechanical detail" lines all over it...as this one and many other WFC bots also have...but I'll be keeping my Kingdom Rodimus in bot mode 100% of the time. Do I still like it? Yeah, and I ordered two. But I am also very disappointed. SS86 turned out great in both forms. It is a huge shame that Kingdom Rodimus looks like such garbage in his vehicle modes. I can only hope when we FINALLY get an update to MP09, the R&D team adopts a different set of design principles than the ones they have been following as of late. I also hope the new MP09 isn't $400 bucks, but it probably will be...if not more.
Pfft I wish the parts in SS86 Hot Rod's arms were fun for me, but one side of one of the pegs for the pipes snapped off so its super loose and always falls off when I move it. I seem to have bad luck with those kinds of pegs.
i did picked up the Rodimus unicronus and got a setup G2 shattered glass Autobot logos turning the figure into a proper shattered glass rodimus prime. Because months before power of the primes was announced I pre-ordered the Takara Legends hot Rodimus and got the diecast Titans return Rodimus Prime head, and currently on my 86 autobot shelf he is the de-facto Rodimus Prime.
In spite of his flaws and me having neither of them I prefer the potp Evolution Hot Rod/Rodimus because of the beautiful gorgeous Cheese Slab and the fun play features and the gorgeous colors
I don’t really understand a lot of your issues with SS86. Personally I’d say apart from the shoulders and stuff not clicking in in vehicle mode, it’s a fantastic figure. It’s certainly not perfect but I feel like you were a bit too harsh on the little guy, especially regarding the transformation and the legs thing. It reminds me with how people would get upset over the chestpeice on Combiner wars Magnus getting stuck and complaining about having to force It out when if you turn the leg sections 50 something degrees, it comes out much more easily.
@@DrLockdown I mean, I guess I can see some of your points regarding it? Honestly, I agree with the score anyhow simply due to the joints and the entire thing being hinged on a clear plastic windshield makes me scared to transform it into car mode as well as it being too bright a red for me. Then again I never really took notice of the butterfly joint issues since I don’t often get figure with them but come to think of it, the fact that he has them and they don’t properly work is kind of worse than just not having them at all. Granted, I don’t know if they were meant to be butterfly joints but the fact that it was there and an opportunity to make one by editing the chest presented itself and they didn’t take it is saddening to me.
On the PotP Rodimus "no tabs" comment on the combined shoulder transformation, there actually are tabs that lock them in. They just require a bit of force. On another note, IMO, PotP is awesome!
Titans return hot rod was good too, mixing IDW and G1 aesthetics.mine broke(back part stop using clear plastic hasbro)but I fixed it today.nice review good job
I wish kingdom rodimus trailer turned more into a base like they did with skylynx or divided into more pieces, its play value looks so limited. I'm gonna buy him only when I find him on sale. Great review!
Tbh I don’t even have my SS86 hot rod displayed with his weapons, I just keep them all in a ziplock bag with a bunch of other transformers accessories, same with blast effect parts and galvatron’s matrix and guns
I just seriously do not understand the hate for SS86 Hot Rod. People, you included have been hating on him so much. He literally had almost no backpack, insane poseability for a transformer it’s size, recognizable representation and great accessories, and I don’t know what your issue was but mine snapped together nicely.
I’m genuinely surprised that nobody is talking about how stupidly designed the shoulder joints are on SS86 Hot Rod. A regular TF figure has the rotating(forward & backwards) joint on the inside closer to the torso, and the outward moving joint is on the outside further from the torso. This allows for very natural looking poses in the shoulders. But with Hot Rod the outward moving joints are on the inside and the rotating joints are on the outside and it limits the articulation while compromising the look of the robot mode when posing it. That greatly upset me when I got the figure out of the box for the first time and it feels like they got a new guy at Hasbro to design it. That’s the biggest reason why I don’t like the SS86 Hot Rod, they just glory killed the shoulder articulation which is very important when making a figure look good in poses. Anyway great review dude.👍
45:02 You will get no arguements from me on PCC! The core/scout class figures are some of the best we've ever gotten in transformers. The biggest flaw of PCC was the drone limbs and their spring loaded nature. This made some limbs much better than others (some downright unusable because the spring wouldnt lock) and it meant that they werent as versatile as Scatter City type where a limb can be an arm or a leg.
Commander Rodimus Prime is amazing! But one criticism about him is his head articulation. His red collars blocks his chin, yes you can push his head back, but it will make is head and neck look unnatural.
This is a good video awesome content, is it okay if I like studio series 86 hot rod and kingdom rodimus, I’m not overly a fan of potp rodimus but I can see the appeal :P
Same here. Both of my copies are excellent. Headlights and arms tab in perfectly and the flow of the cars lines is unbroken.
despite all of its flaws, POTP Rodimus isn't that bad of a figure, primarily because of the play value that something like it has. It's also a neat little attempt at making effectively Powermaster Rodimus lol.

1:27 Thank you! I'm glad there's more and more people saying how it's not Hot Rod's fault for Optimus Prime's death.
As a kid I never thought that, plus I reckon the outcome would have been the same regardless of hot rod getting in between the two because megatron would have still gotten the gun he shot prime with
Boomers still seem to think he's responsible. It's getting tiresome
@@DrLockdown also toys don't forget toys, Optimus and Megatron died because their toys were done
One thing i like alot about Kingdom rodimus tráiler is that You can actually store deluxe class figures that is a pretty good option for kids to play
And something that somehow, they didn't think of with Siege/Kingdom Ultra Magnus *or* Earthrise Optimus...
Ultra Magnus' combined with him though, and prime's was at a leader price point. Don't know of it would've been viable for those.
That how we get ugly figures like MP-44
MP-10 did it right and gave us the character with improvements to elevate it to masterpiece level. No one in the world would tell you that figure isn't Optimus, but it has extra detail and sculpting to make it come to life in the flesh.
@@DiggitySlice MP-44 has dad pants with a short torso, while MP-10 has Chad proportions.

In my opinion, POTP Hot Rod's alt mode is far too flat in ever dimension.
To be honest you should have left hot rod out becuase you were WAY to hard on him
I gave him a three out of five though
@@DrLockdown no you weren’t to hard on him I think he’s an ok figure

Tip for closing Kingdom Rodimus’ trailer: make sure the side panels of the turret are up, not down. The trailer won’t close properly because with those panels down, the turret pushes against the roof.
I think SS86 hot rod has a great transformation. I don't have Scourge quite yet but 2nd to Grimlock he's the one I take off the shelf most to transform. Bar the pipes popping off all the tolerances are Okey dokey on mine
Also this review Opened my eyes to something I hadn't noticed on Kingdom Rodimus' uncombined vehicle mode, it's super knobbly.
Big respect to you though, great video.
It definitely has a lot of play value
Kingdom looks like the trailer attatches to the rodimus vehicle. It's meant to look like its one big vehicle. Its bizarre how much the WFS line screwed up 😅
37:01 “The figure is too big. It should have been slightly shorter”
37:32 “The sword is too small.
Dr. Lockdown: “the color matching on SS86 Hot Rod’s windshield is ATROCIOUS”
Also Dr. Lockdown: doesn’t mention the horrible color matching on PotP Rodimus’s plastic
I just read an update that this wasn’t coming out it must have been from a few days ago. Can’t wait to watch
Yeah this was supposed to come out yesterday
There is a fix for the shoulders locking into place. It’s a tab at the back of the shoulder piece and if you get some clippers skinny enough you can clip it off. Now they work a lot better, well except for the actual rotation that’s still to tight. I tried to add some grease to fix it and I think it actually made it worse. I did it to his left arm and it’s tighter than it was before. Whenever they actually release the Velocitron Hot Rod they fix these damn tolerances.
Hot Rod didn’t kill prime he helped in his death but Megatron killed prime you should hate megaton (plus hasbro since magnus could have just been Optimus but I’m happy he’s not)
You can flip out the 5mm peg on The Sword of Primus on the Kingdom Rodimus and peg it into his backpack for better looking storage.
I’m getting Kingdom Rodimus for Christmas in a few days and I can’t wait to have him
The tab holes on the "pizza cutter" are for the guns, if you want to mount the whole kit onto the vehicle mode's roof for some reason.
One of the things you could do with the panel lining when it bothers you is you can pull a gundam and panel line it, it’ll definitely help
Fun fact, Kingdom's sword is actually quite appropriately proportioned for a one-hander.
If it's realistic, sure...but this is a robot, not a figma. It looks out of scale with the stylisation
@@DrLockdown I know and I agree. Bigger swords are always cooler. I'm just saying it's a neat aspect I noticed.

@@DrLockdown no. It’s just mentioned on the Wiki. Personally, I like the more weary-looking face, as it seems to match his old Marvel Comic look, as well as the Last Bot Standing comics, but that’s just me. I don’t even own him, so in person it might be completely different.
Ah. Seems a bit dubious without a link to a designer interview or a fan first friday
ooooh, I've been looking forward to this
I disagree with a lot of the opinions here, but it's a terrific video.
There's connective tissue between the three though. Ss86 uses ideas from ptop's transformation, and kingdom's is very similar to ss86
@@DrLockdown I agree, and that same connective tissue is in the Titans return too. SS86 feels closer to that version than POTP imo.
I don't have the Titans return one. Don't have any desire to get it either

This review convinced me to shove some cash to the Patreon, best review to date my mans!
I still love Titans Return Hot Rod. I just like to sit around and transform and pose him.
31:21 those hole on the saw is where you can plug the side of the guns into those holes. then you can plug the gun saw combo onto the vehicle mode and the robot mode back
It's Stress Mark City tho
@@nightlypiano41 yes i know. I forgot to add that to my comment
Yeah that much be the breakages I heard about
@DrLockdown This has been the longest I have sat on a Transformers review and it was very satisfactory.
47:53 using jobby's cold touch technique
the pins are metal for sure
The "Hot Rod" part of the PotP version is cool, but the trailer mode looks like a Space Garbage Truck
Not sure if anyone has said it yet but the slots on the ss86 hotrods pizza cutter is for tabs on the sides of his guns
Yeah I heard that after. That corresponds to the pegs on the vehicle, which have a tendency to break anyway
yeah nah, SS86 is better in the transformation. tho imma wait to see the combined mode.
Pfft I wish the parts in SS86 Hot Rod's arms were fun for me, but one side of one of the pegs for the pipes snapped off so its super loose and always falls off when I move it.
I seem to have bad luck with those kinds of pegs.
33:06 at least they sculpted a sudo matrix chamber + you can store it the chest if you don’t mind it radding around
i did picked up the Rodimus unicronus and got a setup G2 shattered glass Autobot logos turning the figure into a proper shattered glass rodimus prime. Because months before power of the primes was announced I pre-ordered the Takara Legends hot Rodimus and got the diecast Titans return Rodimus Prime head, and currently on my 86 autobot shelf he is the de-facto Rodimus Prime.
I love '86 jazz, but I'm 100% with you on the hot rod
I loved the POTP Rodimus. When he came out he was the first Rodimus that had the stature of a Prime.
In spite of his flaws and me having neither of them I prefer the potp Evolution Hot Rod/Rodimus because of the beautiful gorgeous Cheese Slab and the fun play features and the gorgeous colors
I actually don't mind the head sculpt on Kingdom Rodimus. It makes him look wiser.
Actually I figured out how to store the matrix with ss 86 hotrod in his chest too but it does call for a little modification
...Just open the chest and drop it in there lmao
Yes not the most elegant but hey you have options
Has to be removed during transformation, without modification.
I'm reviewing the figure in stock form. Don't count it.
I gave it a three. It's just mediocre, not bad
I gave it a three. It's just mediocre, not bad
Seeing as how i now own all 3 of these figure now, i guess its time to rewatch and see if my opinion matches or not

2:35 Nah, wouldn't describe it that. Looks more like spam on wheels
I just seriously do not understand the hate for SS86 Hot Rod. People, you included have been hating on him so much. He literally had almost no backpack, insane poseability for a transformer it’s size, recognizable representation and great accessories, and I don’t know what your issue was but mine snapped together nicely.
i really love 86 studio series hot rod
42:00 those shoulders actually do tab in…
12:48 there's a Neil diamond song called porcupine pie so "pie of the porcupine"?
Wheel pegs like the ones on POTP hot rod bug me to no end.
Hot take on a three year old video, but what grudge did you have w/ 86 Hot Rod? I don't get basically any of your critiques, that toy's a banger!
His red collars blocks his chin, yes you can push his head back, but it will make is head and neck look unnatural.
i like to imagine that kingdom's trailerless alt mode is a sports suv
I understand the problems with 86 jazz, but I really like him.
