Why do I imagine the Opening skit being that Scourge ordering a masterpiece figure from Amazon Prime and when Galvatron arrives Rodimus just uses full force and throws the package like a missile and at the end Scourge says "Aw man.. Not my Masterpiece figure..."

This was actually a short comic with skywarp and megatron and the amazon guy was optimus
I personally always thought that it was a coin toss if Megatron would be quick enough to kill Optimus without Hot Rod getting in the way. So nice to see someone else acknowledge that.
Basically, it was destined to happen, just feels like hot rod did something in the original timeline
Here's a little fun fact I've just discovered: this figure was designed mainly by Yūya Õnishi, it's normal for the majority of us to not know who are the guys making our toys but he deserves some credit, he's a Takara designer who's had a hand in some of the best and coolest figures we got in recent times like Siege and consequently ER and Legacy Optimus, the SS38 Optimus, Siege Tetrajets, SS Hot Rod, Jeep Bumblebee and the amazing, backpack-less, MPM03 bumblebee
Honestly, Rodimus is one of (if not) my favorite characters. I relate to him so heavily and I’m tired of people blaming him. Anyways, awesome review for an awesome figure

Love that smile on Rodimus's face on the thumbnail. Gives me the impression that he's tired and would rather be doing a million other things, but he won't let it ruin his day or take it out on his customers. Kinda wholesome.

Good review. Great animation. Fun fact. The black exhaust pieces are molded in transparent blue plastic and painted black. I soaked them in isopropyl alcohol for a few hours, and I was able to take most of the paint off. And the paint I wasnt able to get off left the translucent blue plastic with a somewhat dark shadow highlight.

I remember being on the fence when Kingdom Rodimus was announced, somewhat due to the eventual price tag and the overall bad experience I had with MP Rodimus so many years ago, but there was a small window where he went on sale on Amazon and I didn't think twice about getting him. Wow was I impressed. The level of engineering and sheer lack of hollowness was very impressive. Your review really crystalizes a lot of the thoughts I've had on the figure and gave me some new perspectives I hadn't though of or considered before. The amount of work that you've put into this video is absolutely apparent on every single frame. Bravo to you! 👏🏼

I'm only in the beginning of the video, and my jaw dropped when hot rod turned into rodimus at 5:15 THAT WAS SUCH A CLEAN TRANSITION OH MY GOODNESS!!! That was so good, I had to pause the video to comment this LOL

I don’t blame hot rod for Optimus’s death. The only thing I blame hot rod for is not trying to screw up Megatron’s aim when he grabbed the gun.
Or use a sniper gun
hot rod's got guns of his own too, even if they wouldn't kill megs they'd probably mess him up a bit more
17:01 Fun fact: Those are not actually cast in black, they are casted in trans-blue but painted black which is why it looks so glossy. Perspective End actually put dumped it in painter solvent on these and found this out but he recommends to use something not as abrasive as it did damage the plastic when he did it.. Which makes more sense for these “smoke” effects to be blue flame effects. And if you pause at 17:04 and look the top part of the effect you can see a small amount of blue shine through the paint.
yeah I found that out after posting haha. still though. matte black would've made far more sense, or even blue fire now that you mention it

@returnedtomonkey8886 check out Perspective End video on Fangry and Bumblebee (actually title of the video) he says what he did in it. He used painter solvent to remove it, but he kinda messed up the plastic in the process. He thinks if you dunk it in, then immediately wipe it off. But he highly recommends using something less aggressive then painter solvent.
I thought Rodimus was based on a turbine truck as it fits more with his speed theme and looks more like his vehicle mode he ends up with. Specifically the Bison made by GM

I love that intro so so so much ❤ Hot Rod/ Rodimus is my favorite Transformers character, and this is exactly what he would have done
I really like the idea of hot rod’s character in all this, the idea of the autobot leader being “killed so unceremoniously, and him dealing with the harrasment and guilt is RAAAAKED sooooo much with story telling.
(Plus it’s a good metaphor for the internet.)
Optimus suffers from the need to have him in every wave at an affordable price point. The only reason Prime can't have that extra care is because he is the face of the franchise. Hasbro believes he needs to be affordable, and the $80 Commander class is as expensive and complex as Hasbro will allow a figure to get before transitioning into Titan Class territory, which is a stretch for Hasbro's wallet as it is given inflation. That means that a Commander Class Optimus Prime is out of the question as far as they are concerned, and because of that any Optimus Prime figures are limited to the Leader class price point, with all it entails. So what we end up getting is either a brilliant Optimus Prime figure at a Voyager price point sans trailer, or a Leader Class with either a wimpy trailer or-in Legacy Laser Prime's case-a Prime with a decent trailer that drains funds for its parts from the main figure. Hopefully someday we get something like a Commander class Studio Series Optimus Prime to make up for those shortcomings.
They could always sell the trailer separately as a solution, but then many wouldn't buy the trailer so they wouldn't make as much money.
For 80$ I bought a Third Party Mp optimus.

I'm glad Megatron still killed Prime despite no interference from Hot Rod.
With Megs having fought more than 12 hours straight and Optimus challenging him fresh as a daisy, the dude deserved to win.

U know, for a cybertronian, I would've expected Rodimus to run on some sort of fusion reactor, or at least produce some energon equivalent for exhaust.

Just wanna say that I absolutely loved that stop motion skit in the beginning. Very funny, very creative. (Even if I still don't like hotrod/rodimus) Loved how you gave character to Gigawatt.
The only main con I have with that figure is that we got him instead of a Commander Class Beast Wars character. I feel like there are some Beast Wars characters that could really work in that Class.
Other than that and the occasional weird choices of paint (like the transparent blue parts painted over, which weirdly includes the black smoke effect pieces & the lack of silver hubcaps) it looks like a solid figure.
Nicely done video overall. And yeah, it looks like the fandom would have still found a way to get mad at Hot Rod/Rodimus if he didn’t interfere. That’s a weird thing in almost every fandom unfortunately.

I still don't see him being worth the price. But I found him at $73 instead of $150.
That made it much easier to like him. And afford him with inflation on the way
The way hw whipped out and slammed down the trailer was pure cartoon slapstick language and I loved it.

another one I wish I had've done in retrospect was have Optimus walk in and huck the Matrix from way far off in the background and ping off his windshield instead of just from offscreen

I've never been the biggest fan of Rodimus' G1 design - the space winnebago is possibly the lamest alt mode you could give a leader of the free people. That being said I've really come to love Kingdom Rodders in spite of all his flaws. I do regret getting him at full price (I'd just got a new job and I was excited to get a bit more carefree with my spending) but I don't regret getting him at all.
And yes, others have said it, but man that transition at 5:10 is just *chef's kiss*, I had to replay it at 1/4 speed to see how you did it. Spectacular!

I like the face sculpt, as you said, this looks like a Rodimus who has seen things, this isn't "fresh off his victory against Unicron" Rodimus, this is a Rodimus who has had to deal with Galvatron, a revitalized Decepticon insurgency, massive planetary destruction, and years of continuous war with no end in sight

I love this figure, found him in a store I had to jump in, I especially love the fact that Rodimus transforms into a bulkier version of Hotrod, which still looks like a fast and agile vehicle, and comes with an actual trailer that actually can hold cars inside OPTIMUS

This review is a Movie, Top of the line. If I had to make a choice of all the Reviewers on the net, TheLazyEyebrow is hands down my Optimally Maximus.
Yeah. Optimus wasted time grandstanding, left Megatron open to take the shot.
And even if we take it as Hot Rod’s fault, his character arc is redeeming himself for that.
Also, I wasn’t aware that Hot Rod controlled the Hasbro executives, yknow, the ones who ACTUALLY sealed Prime’s fate

Love the figure after being unsure of Rodimus as a character. But Season 3 really made me grow fond of him.
My only complaint with Rodimus is his trailer, not that it's a big box or anything. But the fact that the spring-loaded part should've been higher to avoid the ugly cut the smoke stacks have.
The care and effort that has gone into this video is absolutely top class, awesome review!

Just wanted to say that the smoke clouds are actually cast in translucent blue, and painted black
If you hold them up to a bright light, you can see the blue shine through the thinner parts of the parts, and them being painted explains the glossy finish

That scene where you "threw" the matrix at Hotrod and he became Rodimus was really cool.....not sure how you made the illusion of growing work like that but wow man. Shame about the arms. Be nice if we got a new mp Rodimus (I collect mp scale). I'd even be happy with a third party company doing an oversized ko of this Rodimus. Either would be great..... but if Kingdom Rodimus ever is KO'd and upscaled I hope they rework the arms.

Small nitpick, but you’re supposed to fold up the side shields on the mounted turret for the trailer to fully close. When they’re facing down, they prevent it from closing.

You can fit the rifle and blue blast tips into the compartment in the trailer front! You just need to open the whole compartment to put them in, which means you have to transform the trailer to get them out.

I just got this guy at a Toy convention on Saturday for 50 bucks and I love him
Hotrod was a great leader in the 84 movie. He was the first to spot the decepticon invasion, he had battlefield awareness and spotted Megatron's deception before optimus did.. He teamed up with Kup to get back to the city and help transform it, he helped lead the escape from earth. He fixed Kup after the crash, he recruited the Junkions and he beat both Galvatron and Unicron. Hotrod was awesome, and rodimus as a character in season 3 was more interesting than most other transformers. He doesn't deserve the hate he gets

28:15 The top orange panel on Rodimus’ chest can actually move forward a bit to facilitate more movement of the butterfly joint.
I bought 2 so 1 could be customized into a battle damaged Rodimus the second trailer I just used gundam marker, rust paint, and a mix of all the light greens with one dark green simple yet effective.
Intro skit was funny and showed us the messed up truth that no matter what Hot Rod did, he still would have been hated, lol. I'm someone who grew up with Bayformers and Prime so I never hated him tbh, Cyberverse actually made me love him.
Can I just say how much I adore Gigawatt’s personality in the skit? It was great.
